What's your definition of a "hacker"? - General Questions and Answers

A co-worker of mine has an I-phone and I noticed it had a lot of games, so I asked him how did you get all of those games? (I new he jailbroke it but I wanted to see what he would say) he told me he hacked it, so is that hacking or not?
Sent from my HTC_A510c using XDA App

Hacking would imply that he found a backdoor to something that allowed him to install the games - if he created the jailbreak than I could call it a hacker. If he just used someone's hack on his device, he is not a hacker.

That's exactly how I thought , so hes not a hacker he is a lier lol

lol if i was he i would say the same =D just to show off ..
but srlsly if he knows more than you do then you just embaressed yourself ( your friend)

No lol he isnt the sharpest tool in the shed

Could you get the apple app store on a Droid??

I was wondering if you could possibly have the app store and market place on a Droid phone. I'm sure it can't but who knows. I'm being hopeful

I realize now Im asking is there a way to convert ipa files to apk or just install ipa files right away
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Negative...why? If you want Apple apps get an Ipod Touch or IPhone.

App Store as in total control of what is allowed, or as in porting apps?
The first one can be organized, the second one is probably impossible, you need to have the source code for the app..
I have an ipod touch but the Apple app store has far more games and things to entertain me... I'd rather just have everything on my phone instead of switching between the two. It's basically just easier if I could have my ipod games on my phone.

Possible but useless.

Yea, no way...
I can't see how this would ever be useless but I found out apps can't just be changed between the two formats

So basically what you are saying is because you're lazy, you want to argue with everyone about the virtues of taking restricted apps made for the iPhone and installing them on your Android phone, which would violate all the rules and copyrights from Apple?
It would probably be easier and take less effort to just buy yourself an iPhone or duct tape a phone to your iPod.
Yes

To be fair, the OP has a point.
As much as i hate apple (and love android) the Apple app store blows the Android Marketplace out of the water as far as games are concerned.
...but no, it's probably impossible.
I asked this question before I searched for stuff about it. It's impossible unless we could get the android to read and accept the idevice files. I am lazy and I don't like needing to switch between and ipod and a phone I love my phone but I like being able to play games

Well, I would appreciate you for out- of- the box thinking even if it is impossible at first. Few decades before nobody had dreamt that people will be carrying phones in their pockets.
Good luck !

iPhone 5

I have decided that when the REAL iPhone 5 debuts, im going to iOS, its more solid than Android... sure with android there are a variety but I would rather have one phone that can upgrade at the same time others of its kind upgrade instead of trying to hassle to *root* a phone n do all that other crap and risk bricking it just to stay current, well do that or buy another phone, its ridiculous actually.... and I saw a similar post to this one and that guy was right, Google has customization yes but when it comes down to it, it pains me to say but google is crap compared to apple as far as being current and stuff u knw? So whenever the iphone 5 drops I will not deal with android anymore I just can't tolerate this mess anymore

Its called going past it since its obviously not what youre looking for, thats a huge duh, and google only covers up its flaws with the little glitz and Glam of Widgets and customization, you all know this, and you also know that as a whole it really sucks? Maybe for some... but the annoying thing for most people is the question of why the OP decided to post this. Why does the OP feel that he has to justify himself to us? We don't care about things like this and we aren't going to sit and beg you to stay with this phone. Don't post flame bait like this, that's all it is and you knew it before you started this thread OP.

I agree that the iOS has its good points. But for full functionality of your own phone you have to jailbreak it. How is that different than rooting your android? I have had an iPhone 3Gs and 4 and neither of them have come close to offering me all that I can have and do with my Infuse. And guess what that's my opinion, it works for me and my needs. Am I putting the iPhones down? Not really, if you want to drive an off the showroom floor mid grade model that comes with a stock package that is as you buy it then go for it. Personally I prefer to know how my device works at its core as well as be able to modify that as I see fit, but again that's me. I will not buy another iOS device until they allow the freedom I have with my android. I own both Mac and Win machines and an Ubuntu and a Slackware machine so I'm not pro or anti apple I get a device that fits my needs. If you need an iPhone go for it but what's the point of spreading negativity in a forum where the iPhone is not the focus.

Bbm on droid

Hi
OK I have seen this asked but I have a good idea for this.
Would it be possible to use blackberry bridge (the app used to link a Bb to a Playbook) to link it to an Android so I can use my bis and have my bbm on my android while it is linked to my blackberry? I don't like the blackberry's user interface it is way to slow.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
The trick would be porting it over to android, then getting it to work on their servers. Correct me if I'm wrong.
saw this a little while ago, not what your talking about, but its relevant and you might find it interesting

I did see that a while ago as well. It was interesting to see. Maybe RIM is officially working on it themselves or maybe it was a hoax. No news of it came up again so I'm pointing to hoax.
I seem to have remember that they said that screen shot was taken from the bb sdk or something but it is fake. Who around here would have the knowledge to port the app to android? I think if we can get the app on android and trick the blackberry into thinking it is a play book then the blackberry will allow access to the servers. Just a thought Im not sure if it would work.

MirrorOP app

Guys and Gals of XDA, I think I've found the Holy Grail for the Xperia Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.awindinc.sphone2tv&hl=en
A little app called MirrorOP Sender. Fully functional Android display mirror to PC and it runs fairly well.
Just played the first level of Super Mario Bros with only 1 death...Streamed from my Play to my PC connected to my TV through HDMI
All you need is the MirrorOP Receiver for the PC and you're good to go:
http://www.mirrorop.com/product_Windows_Receiver.html
The sender app is only a trial but it's worth a test. I'm not sure if the framerate is connected to how good your internet connection is. My internet isn't that good and it displays fine (portrait and landscape) but from some American speedtests I've seen maybe some of the Americans in here might have better results
Going to give ago. If works, extremely good find
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Not bad, not bad at all! Excellent find!
Just found out you can also do it the opposite way as well if you get the MirrorOP receiver for your Play and Sender for PC
Runs brilliantly and means I can still access my desktop from the comfort of the toilet
Root only.
Awwwww
lags, dont know why
Tried it out will be perfect if it didn't lag..... Atleast for games and videos ..... But displaying pictures are ok enough......

Not worth paying for yet as just to slow for games. Can test out first as the apps are free for demo time. But this does have lots of potential in the long run. Still early days yet but if see how good splashtop is, this app good just be as good and fast with some more work done to it.

I'm crushed! :silly: I should have mentioned that I did google for it, and didn't find anything. Sorry about that--I'm so accustomed to googling for anything before I ask on the forum, that I didn't even mention it. Yes, it's a made up day, but the guys in my office have fun with it, and I did get a request from one of them to find such an app when the Dilbert "pirate insult generator date" came up on his desk calendar. There are a few items on Google Play but nothing as good as the iphone app.
