Well I found out that the phone that was purchased from craigslist and given to me as a gift was blacklisted on the t-mobile network so it will not work...
My question is will I be able to use it on the AT&T network??? because it does not function on the Simple Mobile network nor the Tmobile network...
Any help would be really appreciated... I don't want to end up with an expensive paper weight.
You can flash it over to the frawg plan. I have my 2 G2xs on the frawg plan getting 3G access without any problems.

Get an unlock code from eBay. It should work on any Gsm carrier that doesn't piggyback T-Mobile. U may be stuck on edge though

Just so you know, you probably just bought a stolen phone. Depending on how the blacklist is organized (internally or combined throughout all the providers), it may not work on a US carrier.

Now he claims he got it as a gift. Hes fairly new member since 1/7/2012.

Yes it was given to me as a gift by my father... I came on here trying to get help not have someone judge my credibility... Granted I'm new to this board because I joined when all the issues I began having arose. I'd appreciate it if your not going to contribute with something that will aid in helping to fix my problem, not posting at all because you feel a need to play a detective.
The double posts are odd. I agree. No offence OP. After all, it is the internet. People that read this forum on a daily basis are going to have questions.
You can most likely use it on AT&T but you won't get 3G data. If you like slow Edge data then good luck.
Will you get 4g speeds or whatever they call it?
Dude! Did you actually read what J-Boxer said? He told what you would get. If.you don't know what he is talking about, Google it.

Well I recently purchased a G2x and I wanted to use the phone on the Simple Mobile Network, but when I put the sim card in and power on the phone it states "Invalid Sim Card" now when I contacted LG about this their tech support stated that I need a new sim card, but that makes no sense because the sim card works on other phones so as you can see I'm at a loss as what to do or what could be wrong. I've included what it shows as far as the system information that I see. Also I should mention that the phone starts up fine, but it never requests an unlock code??

I'm not trying to "play detective". As a person who has gotten $h1t stolen before, I've seen a couple newbies posting on xda asking to circumvent lockscreen, etc, etc and I just got suspicious. Don't take it personal, wasn't tryn to start trouble, just was suspicious...

Is it possible I bought a simlocked I9020A? Works fine on at&t but my tmo simcard wont work at all (no edge). I got it off craigslist but did a factory reset, so figured anythng the previously owner did should be undone.
Aren't all GSM Nexus devices unlocked by default, only difference being GSM/3G frequencies?
So why did you buy an att nexus s when you have T-Mobile?

If you're able to make calls with the tmo sim then it is already sim unlocked. Though I am not sure why you're not getting edge.

yeat I thought I'd at least get edge with a Tmo sim in. I use ATT in the US, the Tmo sim is my womans and was just to test it since since we are traveling to Europe in two weeks.
It won't hurt to check your IMEI and /efs
Sorry, didn't see that it works on AT&T :/
You should get Edge at least. Guess there's something wrong somewhere else. Talk to your carrier. If you can use some features it's not simlocked at least.

I have the same problem, but the other way around. I have an I9020T which does not seem to work at all with AT&T. I've made many phone calls to Tmobile, to AT&T, and to Samsung's tech support. I haven't found a resolution, yet. The last thing that was told to me by the AT&T tech support person this evening, was that perhaps I need a newer simcard - one that is fully compatible with this newer model of phone.
I'm also prepared for the possibility that the phone has a hardware defect, however I don't want to send it in for an RMA until I'm absolutely certain.
Samsung (after checking my IMEI) has told me that the phone is definitely sim-unlocked and usable on any carrier.
A couple helpful hints when talking to any tech support person:
Make sure that they cross check your IMEI number. They have a database, and if they can establish some facts about your phone that way, it can really expedite the process.
Also, be aware that tech support people step through flow charts with you, and they usually aren't actually very technically savvy. If you can get them started on a constructive tack - they'll find the right flow chart, and you might get a lot more help than if you simply call up and say "it doesn't work."
For some reason I can't get any service with AT&T but it picks up service with T-Mobile.
I have it rooted, unlocked with the Ace Hack Kit and running ICS AOSP.
Any ideas?
Edit: I've tried flashing different radios still no luck.
Are you using an ATT SIM? Can you get ATT in your area with a different phone?
I tried three different ATT sim cards and yes there is ATT service in my area.

You don't need a correct APN for phone signal. So that shouldn't matter. Could this phone be possibly stolen or involved in an ATT account that was terminated early? Maybe ATT has it blocked from the network?

I was gonna say this, my friend picked up a rooted phone a month ago. Had the same issue as the OP so we called AT&T and sure enough the IMEI # or something like that was reported stolen and had service terminated. They went on to tell him he's S.O.L.

This is a really interesting post. This is the first case I ever heard of where AT&T blacklisted a stolen device. I hope it is true. Typically, they just terminate service by deactivating the sim card and don't worry about the device.

thats like using google to diagnose your car. apples and oranges. your next step should be to contact ATT and find out if that imei number is listed as blocked from the network before taking wild stabs in the dark from reading forums about phones different than yours.
not to knock you for searching though, it is appreciated
Did a little searching and it seems ATT does not blacklist IMEI codes. Just sim cards. Go figure.
I find it difficult to believe it is a motherboard issue. If it picks up a T-mobile phone signal there is no reason why it should not pick up an ATT phone signal if the sim card is good and there is service in the area.
I gave up and sold it to someone using tmobile
since it was rooted, ATT is still able to block the cellphone? I thought they might lose the connection with this device... Sounds interesting

Since fernandezhjr the police of interesting posts wanted to poke some holes in my story...I asked said friend for a little more detail, turns out the phone in question was sold with the simcard in which she tried to use. Shady seller I guess sold the phone and cancelled the simcard on the phone, not sure if the phone was stolen or was actually the sellers phone but regardless that's neither here nor there. Once removing the simcard she was able to use the phone with her simcard.
edit: phone was never rooted. not sure if that matters to anyone.

Heh heh. Like I said before, no poking, just spotting. I don't think anyone would like misinformation being posted, even if it isn't intentional. And when it comes from a more informed member like yourself that likes to be helpful to others, it is more likely to be accepted and/or acted upon. I also only question you when I've had conflicting experiences or seen reliable sources that conflict. The non blacklisting of devices is one that has been discussed here before and typically pops up in many other forums.

by the way my donor is activated and was used before

Not to be rude but if your title is more specific, e.g. with NS4G in it, maybe there wouldn't be that many viewers. I thought it would be something I could help with, but I'm not familiar with CDMA networks. I used to be on Sprint once upon a time, and I remember I had to take the phone to the Sprint store to have them activate my number on it. Goodluck!
This may work but u 1st need to get the MSL code for the ns4g. Try the app called "get my msl" . U need this code to call sprint. Just say ur buddy had sprint and he gave u the phone.
When u call they will have u enter the phone prompt commands so be on a stock ROM so they work and it will match what they see in their monitor.
This is compared to actually having an old phone that u wanted to switching to ur number.
Now they may catch on or say that the phone was never a sprint phone since the ESN # behind battery isn't in their system. So hopefully they don't bring that up.. then ur good just as long as u did the flashing correct.
Good luck

Felony? How about the carriers give users the ability to move a phone from one cdma network to another just like GSM phones are capable of. Is unlocking a simlocked GSM a felony also?
What should be a felony is having a user buy into an expensive 2 year contract by spending $299 on a phone made in China for $180 cost and not letting you use it anywhere but their network even after the contract.

Its sad you have to go through such measures just to get a decent phone without paying an arm and a leg for it. But to answer your question if I understand correctly, one you flash it and use the donor phone on ns4g it will look like the donor phone to sprint or other cdma carrier on the network. So the old number should no longer matter and the ns4g should register the Samsung Prevail number.
OK thanks for the help

I got my NS4G flashed to boost, it is actually more than a simple flash, the ESN is changed to that of the donor phone. So sprint will always see it as the prevail. Just remember the prevail can never be used again without changing that ESN also.

I have had the phone for 2 months and it has been rooted and I was using it with TrickDroid V4.3 for about a month now. All of a sudden this morning, the phone stopped connecting to any tmobile towers and has been displaying no service all day. I tried the usual fixes (re-seat SIM, hard reset, restore to stock) and nothing has fixed it. All the other features of the phone work, just cannot get cell service. I have tried a different sim card in the phone and it doesnt work, and my sim card works in another phone so that narrows it down to my hardware.

Yeah, looks like it was blocked because the person i bought it from on craigslist never paid the installments for the phone. It seems like a very stupid system that t-mobile would block the IMEI instead of just going after the person defaulting on the payments.
Given that I will not be able to unblock it using conventional methods, is there really anything else I can do? Would it be useful to somebody in a different part of the world? Can I use Att on it? Will Straight Talk work on it, or does that eventually get routed to tmobile also?
Thanks!

OP,
Beware that some carriers share their blacklists between each other in an effort to "help" each other avoid bad customers.
Just food for thought.
Also, just thinking about this. You say it was working just fine then suddenly quit working. The story behind the phone's failed installment payments doesn't sound logical to me given the fact that you say it was working until just the other day.
Same thing was happening to me... I was confused.

Sometimes it does take a while for the blacklist to kick in. Think about it, if the guy is not making his monthly install payment it might 30 days+ before they bl the phone.

Actually, there is a GSM setting on the phone, and from my understanding, the GS3 is a world phone, and I think the I535 has the proper antennas to work on AT&T's 4G network, but I may have to look into that. It was something me and one of my coworkers were gonna try, but never got around to and he is now in the military, he had a AT&T GS3, me a Verizon, and we were gonna SIM swap and see if it worked. Hardware seems to support it would, but the big question is why?

Unless there's a breakthrough in this bounty thread, highest speeds you'll see on AT&T or T-Mobile are Edge. Hardware supports "up to" HSPA in other countries given differences in frequencies. Not sure I get your question of "why?" though. Samsung made this phone to support virtually every carrier in the US and it makes more sense to hardware lock (or carrier lock or whatever the technical term is) phones to only have access to most common frequencies in that region.
My question as to why is to the whole carrier swap. When you sign a new contract, you get a new phone, adding a customer owned device doesn't change plan price, but does maintain the upgrade eligibility. As far as I know, the major players haven't started releasing specs on next years devices. So, why the want to take a Verizon GS3 to AT&T is what i'm wondering.
Agreed, although I could understand if he said T-Mobile it makes good sense on their new plans. This just isn't a good idea trying to bring it to AT&T

Yup, same process for AT&T and T-Mobile so long as you have the respective sim. I'm unsure if you can edit and save APNs on stock which is why I say if you have no data then you need to root for the method I linked to. You can get calls easily on stock, just have to adjust Network Mode accordingly.
