[Q] SMS char limit after 2.3.5?

Has anyone else noticed that there is now a character limit in the stock SMS app? It used to split my messages after 160 characters, but now it just stops me from typing all together.
The settings menu doesn't have any options to change this anymore either. I'm kind of mad... seems like such basic functionality.
It never split my messages....there was no change between 2.3.4 and 2.3.5

That's annoying. It should send longer messages as an MMS which can be much larger.

Hmm. I'm using the stock deodexed 2.3.4 ROM and it splits my messages. Is there a custom messaging app that someone might have stuck in the 2.3.4 ROM?
Stock 2.3.5 AOSP does not limit on a gsm device, it properly splits.

very frustrating.
either way, I flashed my backup of 2.3.4 and pulled the MMS.apk off of it and stuck it in on 2.3.5 so I can split my flipping texts. this seems like such a simple feature to leave out.
PM me if you want a copy of it

Does the keyboard chosen affect voice to text function?

I just switched back from thundershed to sense because I couldn't get voice to text to work well in a moving car or other place with noisy background.
It was suggested that some other keyboard might help. Is it true that the voice to text function is affected by the keyboard? I thought it was a native android process only activated by the keyboard? Does each keyboard have its own voice to text algorithm?
In sense I use the same keyboard and voice to text works fine in my car. I thought I was using swiftkeyx but I am actually using smart keyboard.
I think its the rom. Ive only had good voice 2 text with sense or desensed roms, not aosp. You can try an aftermarket voice recog app from market if you really want aosp.

From what I can see those apps only work with their own sms app and i use google.voice for sms.
I also use v to t in emails.
I found one that worked with stock app, but cant remember which one

I'm running Liquid Gingerbread 3.2 and LeanKernel 6.1.0 and voice to text is working fine for me. Did you try flashing another kernel.
Most keyboards don't have their own voice to text. Some might but none that I know of.
I'm using the same kernel as you are. It's best for bluetooth which i also need. Can you talk to text in a moving car?

[Q] Emoji on AOKP b33

Has anyone been able to get emoji to work on aokp b33? Tried to use the SMS.apk from CM9 but I can't receive emoji but I can send them.

try the mms.apk from CM9. i think aokp team may have missed the updated mms.apk in build 33. the CM9 apk is working great for me with the changes stated in build 33 changelog.

please see this http://rootzwiki.com/topic/23713-mod-cm9-mmsapk-for-aokp-emoji/
The CM9 .apk doesn't help with that problem. Also he stated that he is already using it. I also can send them fine, but I cannot receive emojis.
yeah kind of useless if you are not able to receive emoji.
I'm also experiencing this on AOKP-build 33/Matr1x with CM9 Mms.apk installed via adb & CWM.
Same result, can send but can't receive.
Nexus S I9020T
I can send emoji fine to iphone, and iphone can forward that sms back to me and i am able to see the emoji... But the iphone cannot send me a native iphone emoji...
Emojis. I have an iPhone for that reason.
I am Shark On Land, and I approve of this message.
Try this one. Flash thru CWM

ICS Messaging app

Hey everyone.
I'm customizing my stock ICS .587 Sony ROM and I wonder where can I get ICS Messaging (the one that comes with CM9) .apk and how to make it works? I've searched it all over the CM9 ROM files, but didn't find any. I've also downloaded it from Play Store, but when I receive a message both ICS Messaging and stock Messaging apps are showing me notifications what is really annoying. I tried to freeze stock Messaging app using Link2SD, but then I can't receive messages. It doesn't come to my phone. So what can I do to have ICS Messaging as my default messaging app?
In the stock messaging settings, there should be an option to disable notifications (which only disables notifications on stock, ICS messaging will still work)
