Have never used this app, but both Skype or own phone's front face call works great.

I dont have the ability to use built in video calling on t-mobile usa network... Seems like ALL video chat apps suck on o3d.
oovoo, skype, fring, tango................ the ones that do get video from front camera are soooo zoomed in all the caller see's is my eye, unless I hold the phone as far away from my face as my arm will extend. The others usually get no front camera video, even though they are supposed to support the o3d.
no video, send or receive oovoo
I have cm7.1 on g2x. Have not figured out how to get video. I want to replace skype because picture on skype is upsidedown.

So far I haven't found a use for it.
Can i use it to take pictures with the stock camera?
Is there an app that can do this?
I hear the GalaxyS vibrant on bell can face chat with people, but I'm using my captivate on AT&T and I don't seem to have that option beside users in my contact list.
I hear I can get Fring to work for face chat, but I don't have any other fring friends to try it out with.
Anyone use it? how's the quality?
Front camera?

I hate to bust your bubble, but there is no front facing camera on the Samsung S AT&T Captivate. I do not believe that any information has ever said that this phone had a front facing camera. So in the end there is no app that will help you use a camera that is not there.

I agree, I have not found a use for the front facing camera either. Mainly, because there isn't one lol. I hear Tmobile people can't find a use for theirs either...
The front facing camera is on the back
U guys dont know about the front facing cam on the captivate? I thought u guys were supposed to know this stuff lol
haha.. damn.. honest mistake..
My friend has the vibrant from bell and it does have the front camera. I thought all galaxy s' were made identical.
That's too bad, I like the captivate's look a lot better than the vibrant.
Props to this answer.. haha

Is it just me or does the front facing camera not work with Tango?
Could it be because we're on 2.2.2?
My gf has the Samsung Vibrant 4G and she has a toggle switch from front to back. My G2X doesn't.
Anyone? ..this is driving me crazy...
MY G2x is doing the same thing
When trying to use Tango the front facing camera would not work also ....
Anyone please help......
The front camera doesn't work in Fring or Yahoo messenger either.
It seems the built in Qik program is the only one that allows for use of the front cam.
Beta fring 2.4.5.9 can work with the FFC just fine.
Download it here http://reg.fring.com/app/versions/Fring2459.apk
Note this is NOT the market version, it is a later version which is beta testing.
I can't seem to download the beta version of fring from the link above. Anywhere else I can go to download it?

Anyone using Tango app to do video calls with other platforms ie Iphone4? I tried with my gf's iphone4 today, I could see her but she see's my rear camera (no pun intended), my front facing camera does not work with this app =(
ya same problem here - and oovoo and fring do the same thing. QIK seems to work with the proper camera though.
yup same here. that was the first problem i ran into with this phone. just use a mirror in front of u. will probably get fixed soon tho with either with an update or the switch to gingerbread. not sure why the app doesn't recognize that there are 2 cameras which is the reason why we don't see the switch camera toggle normally located on the top right corner. i have a feeling its not tangos fault but with lg and their half-baked software.

do you know if there is qik for iphone4?
Reason being for this is G2X came out recently and developers at Tango just recently got their hands on it. You should be expecting an update shortly on it working though.

tango wont work on the g2x ffc but i flashed cm7 on my g2x tried tango and works perfect with ffc
They have a private beta available now at Tango. You can sign up here
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dEhvZldMemZDc3cwcEtqbXhlRVY2WVE6MQ#gid=0
I got my invite yesterday, and I haven't tried it out yet, but from what I've read, it looks promising. I asked Randall at Tango if I could post the private beta apk on xda, and he said no, but I can post the link to let anyone apply for the beta.
Also, does the front facing camera work as well?
It works great. I use it a lot and never had a problem. I've never used the camera though so I can't comment on that.

Would you be able to test the FFC?
Front facing camera works fine with Skype.
only thing about skype for android is it doesn't delete your chat/call history
I noticed that Skype causes high battery drain. It's good and video calling works perfectly, however it's adviseable to shut it down when not using.
Yes, it drains a lot if there are staying as background service, the quality is acceptable of course with iPhone 4

Am I able to Skype with someone that is using an iPhone 4 while I use the Galaxy Note? Even if I want to use the FFC?
Yes you can, as the Skype supports FFC for both the devices and the quality is remarkable

I thought Skype for Android cannot be used to communicate with people using iPhone 4s. So you've tested this and it works?
i just made a video call awhile ago... No problem so far... just be sure to enable the video calling prompt showed in the first initialization....

that just sounds weird to me, but Skype is bought by Microsoft now, so anything is possible .
I tried Tango, it works with the Front cam too on both Note and S2.
After installing Skype, my phone keeps switching to Edge and had a couple of random rebooting.
Made a Skype video call from my Note to an iPod touch, Macbook Pro, and iPhone4. All working fine but noticed that the Note switches to landscape view during video calls.
Tried to find an option to make it work on portrait view. Otherwise it works great.
^^ It used to work in the portrait mode as well prior to the latest update. Now it defaults to and stays stuck on landscape. I think the app reads the Note's resolution and assumes that it's a tablet or something.

Okay. Not a deal breaker really but would still be nice to have the portrait orientation option.
Skype video on US AT&T version
Can anybody confirm that Skype video works on the AT&T LTE version?
Specifically, does the front camera work fro making a video call like the Iphone?
The skype video call works fine between iphone 4s and Galaxy note no probs at al, the network management is good and the call clarity is appreciated.
It works, but one complaint though is that the video from the other side does not scale or occupy the whole screen. Such a waste of space. I hope Skype addresses this in the next update.
skype work !!
tango work !!
google talk video chat work !!
Complete noob here so maybe I've missed something glaringly obvious, but how do you make a video call with the one s? I can't find any option for it and a google search only brings up ways to do it using an app or skype. My video call time comes out of my monthly calling minutes so when I'm travelling it makes sense to use it rather than skype as I have a capped data allowance and more minutes than I need.
Thanks
when you are calling someone, check options... is there any option for video call?

Nope, nothing there to initiate a video call. And then when in call I cannot find any option to turn on the camera for a video call. I've looked and looked (before and during a call) but I can't find any option to do so.
Ok I emailed HTC and asked and their response was:
I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with making a video call.
I believe that the reason for this is because the phone does not make video calls via the normal phone function. It makes video calls using 3rd party software e.G. Skype etc. But as we do not support 3rd party software I would be unable to help you set this up. I apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Bit of a disappointment personally, but I suppose video calling isn't very popular so most people won't care. Still, was it really that difficult to add a video calling option/function?
But if your phone did support it, and not through a 3rd party app using internet, The receiver would also have to have the same set up right ?
And video calling isnt that popular.. Can you not speak with your provider and see if they can change the video call allowance into internet allowance instead ? Then you could use a 3rd party app like skype... Much more popular

LOL! Making phone with 2nd camera and not even bothering to add software option for video call? HAHHA Thats just lame! But I guess its for most "android" phones.

Yes, but whilst I'm no expert, most phones I have come across with front facing cameras do support video calling and more importantly the people who I would be calling have this option on their phones.
Not to worry though, not a major issue. Just seemed a bit odd to me to put a front facing camera on there and not support it without a 3rd party app. I can manage and with all the free wifi hotspots I get access to through my package it shouldn't be a big issue.
i totally agree, It is a bit stupid to have the FFC, if they wernt gunna support video calls, they could have removed the camera and added something else instead.
like a external sd slot. or a laser beam what kills people... who knows ?
I dont use video calling, I hate people looking at me im the sort of dude that walks in the shadows with a hood covering my face lol
Setup a Google Voice account and then you can do video calls to other users over Google Talk.
I was able to initiate a video call to the wife's One S using Google Talk on my Samsung Note 2 with no problem but the front camera image quality of the HTC is so bad the feature is useless. I found this thread while searching to see if others had better results. The image on the HTC is dark and grainy on the phone's own screen and is so pixilated after being transmitted to mine it totally useless , the Samsung's is crystal clear.

Fanboy maybe...of the iPhone type perhaps?
Considering they are the only mfgs to add said software.
Goggle+ works great and so does google voice which is a preinstalled app of android systems...
Which means making your post is a waste of time

The front camera isn't actually that had. You just have to try to remove some dust from it. It's terrible design to hide the camera down there, it gets full of dust in no time
