[KEXEC][CM9][AOKP] Update PRL and Calibrate Sensors for CM9 and AOKP - Epic 4G Android Development

Epic CM Team Blog: Boot FC09 from SDCard
Useful Utility for CM9 Epic 4G
This is a temporary ROM that boots Samsung's FC09 firmware entirely from sdcard without making any changes to the ROM installed on your phone. Simply reboot to return to your normal ROM. This sdcard ROM is useful for several purposes.
Settings > About Phone > System updates >
Update Profile.
Update PRL.
Settings > Display > Horizontal calibration
Do this if you have problems with auto rotate on CM9.
Sprint Activation.
Dial codes and diagnostic mode.
Test Samsung FC09 behavior to aid in CM development.
Changelog
FC09-based with working 3G, 4G, Update Profile, faster speed.
Uses 500MB on sdcard instead of 1GB.
Includes Connectbot and GPS Status.

Wow! This is excellent! Thank you Warren. I'm glad you decided to begin developing for the Epic. Your releases are invaluable thus far.
I look forward to seeing more from you!

This looks awesome! Thanks for your hard work!

Wow. Very cool. So glad someone else is here to prove how versatile this device is.

This is an unusual ROM that boots entirely from your sdcard. This allows you to temporarily boot into stock EL30 which might be useful for various purposes included:
Test stuff on EL30 to compare behavior to aid in CM debugging.
Update Profile, PRL, or do Sprint Hands Free activation.
samsung-epic-stock-el30-kexec-multiboot.tar.bz2
171MB md5sum c4532cd10b37382d25af8304deb57fe8
How To Procedure
Download the tarball.
Unpack it in sdcard, leave the directory structure intact.
Boot into CWM.
"Flash" multiboot/EL30/boot_EL30.zip
It will boot EL30.
Warnings!
DO NOT MOUNT USB STORAGE. BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PRODUCTION USE.
It will be a bit slow because your sdcard is slow.

Lol, I was just suggesting this idea for PRL updates a few hours before this thread was created, didn't think I'd see it manifest so soon (not trying to claim credit, just enjoying the coincidence).

just tested this out. booted fine, although a bit slow as you stated. ran both Update PRL and Update Profile successfully. could not get 3g or 4g data working though. powered off without a problem.
thanks for such a smooth way to update PRLs from CM7.

This is awesome and probably has an endless amount of uses. Thanks for your hard work!

I have not done it, but I will try to explain how I understand it working. Basically you are unpacking a rom onto your SD card and then booting into CWM and flashing a script. The script tells the phone to boot the rom on the SD card. So you will boot into EL30, which is the rom on the SD card. You can do whatever you want to accomplish within EL30, and when you are done you simply reboot your phone. Your phone will boot normally into whatever rom it was running before you did anything, because the only way to boot into the EL30 rom on your SD card is by flashing the script in CWM.
So basically, its a rom that sits on your SD card and is never ever used unless you flash the "boot_EL30.zip" script in CWM, and even then it only boots into it once. As soon as you reboot you are back into CM7 or whatever other rom you are running.

With epic-scale gratitude to you for this wtogami!
Only last week had ODIN'd back to stock just simply to Update Profile............this Rocks!

I'm asking this purely out of being curious, but reading the information over on CM7 it says not to mount the SD Card.
Theoretically what would happen if you were to mount the SD Card while running this?

Well, since the entire rom and kernel are read from your SD card, and the SD is automatically unmounted from the phone in order to mount as USB storage... remember the warning about apps on the phone being unable to access the sd card while it is usb-mounted? It would be like suddenly disconnecting the hdd containing your windows installation while the computer is on (maybe not exactly the same, but hopefully you see the conflict that would arise?)

Just out of curiosity, the download page says 171 MB, but the download itself is only 164 MB. Maybe a typo? Or uncompressed size?

SK4G Development

Some of you may know me and some not. I was asked to help out on the SK4G development, so here I am.
I have some questions first.
1. You are using CWM?
2. Amend or Edify?
3. Do you have the drivers and adb set up yet?
Depending on the answers I can put out a couple of tests and then get to work on this.
I will need your newest deodexed framework-res.apk, twframework-res.apk, settings.apk, services.jar - and others as needed.
If you do not have a deodexed rom yet then I need a copy of your systemfs.rfs or a full odin to deodex it myself. I have the system dump, is this your newest rom? If so then I have already deodexed it - just let me know.
1. Yes, the epic 4g version which is buggy
2 don know
3.yes
Sent from my SGH-T839 using Tapatalk
1) No. It doesn't sound like the currently available CWM firmwares work well on the SK4G. I am waiting for one designed for this hardware. I have run CWM on other handsets, of course.
2) No. Had not heard of those until you'd mentioned them.
3) Yes. Working well. We're all set here, at least.
System dump: There only seems to be one ROM/firmware version for this phone so far. The one you have should be current. I pulled mine in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037403&page=5
Specifically here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13210149&postcount=59
I'm happy to help further. Please simply let me know what you need.
And thanks for taking this on! This could be a solid phone without some of the bloatware trash foisted on it.
1. They are using the one click root for the epic by noobnl which installs CWM 2.5.1.0
2. Amend though can't you just use update-binary and make it compatible with both

Yes, but I am old school and still use amend most of the time and needed to make sure it was going to be compatible.
Once I see some feedback on the theme I posted I will move forward - I just need to know how it turns out so I will have a better understanding of the phones layout.
Might need to send Koush a message and see if we can get a proper recovery going.
I really would love it if this phone got some custom roms. I don't want to get rid of it. But I put a ad up on craigslist to trade for a mytouch 4g.

Also as far a getting a proper working recovery, i think we may need a recovery that supports the ext-SD card. our internal memory isnt used by us because its so small. its used for things like installing apps i believe. if you use a file manager you'll see the only available SD card is the external one and same when mounting the phone. i think the epic and vibrant recovery would work just fine except we'd need one that supports the external SD card.
there is a kernel called dead horse that i used on my vibrant that had this support for ext SD but i dont think theres a way to get just the recovery out of it. hopefully someone might know a way to direct CWM to our ext SD then we might be on to something ..

Its just a driver issue. We need to know exactly which SD card reader is in the phone and see if we can contact the manufacturer for the source.
I do not know how to decompile things like drivers, but I would like to know so I could get the ball rolling on this.
I'd love to see development pickup on this phone.
I've had my G1 since Dec 08 and happily rooted and did whatever I wanted to do it with the huge support from the developer community that the G1 received.
I'm keeping myself stock until someone gets Clockwork working with nandroid and there's an unroot method.

1st and foremost.... I need your guy's initramfs from your kernel
Idk too much about the initramfs nor how to extract it.
If I'm right the zImage is the kernel maybe this could help you so I've uploaded it to dropbox aswell.

If it needs to be done from our phone could you point us in the right direction on how to get the initramfs.

[KERNEL] Community Kernel v8 - (7/17/11) - Voodoo sound v10

Features:
-Voodoo lagfix by supercurio! (all partitions converted to ext4)
-Voodoo sound by supercurio! (ported to the Infuse by the man himself!)
-CWM w/ ext4 support and Voodoo lagfix config options built in
-Root script built in (Just install Superuser and you're rooted!)
-Lowmemkiller tweaks
-Background writeout tweaks
-Tunneling support
-USB RNDIS support (required by some third party tethering apps)
-Init.d script support
v5 Changlog:
-Fixed ffc
-Fixed tunneling support
-Added USB RNDIS support (required by some third party tethering apps)
v7 Changlog:
-Added Voodoo sound (ported to Community Kernel by the man himself, supercurio, so you know it's going to work as intended)
Note: Please donate to supercurio. He took time to port his work to the Infuse and he doesn't even have the device. If he sees a sudden influx of donations, he'll know you appreciate his work and will want to port his future projects to the Infuse as well.
v8 Changlog:
-Updated Voodoo sound driver (v10)
READ CAREFULLY
1) The first boot after installing this kernel will take a LONG time. It's converting your partitions from RFS to ext4.
2) Before flashing, make sure you have at least 20% battery remaining. The file system conversion will stop if your battery level falls below 10%.
3) Before flashing anything that includes the stock kernel you should disable Voodoo lagfix. The stock kernel can't read ext4 file systems and won't boot if you forget to disable the lagfix. See below for instructions.
How To Disable Voodoo Lagfix (2 Methods):
-Method 1: Create a file or folder named "disable-lagfix" in the Voodoo folder on your internal SD card and reboot.
-Method 2: Boot into CWM recovery and select "voodoo lagfix" > "disable lagfix" > "reboot system now".
Flashing Instructions:
1) Make sure the drivers for the Infuse 4G are installed (installing Kies is the best way to accomplish this)
2) Download and unzip Odin_Community_Kernel_vX.zip
3) Run Odin3 v1.7.exe as administrator
4) Place your phone into download mode (power off and then press and hold both volume buttons while plugging in the USB cable)
5) Make sure your phone shows up in Odin as COM##
6) Click the PDA button and choose PDA_Community_Kernel_vXX.tar.md5
8) Press Start

Get involved with development!
While I do have a computer engineering degree and work as a software engineer, I admittedly don't have much experience with kernel development. Thus I want this kernel to be a community project so we can all learn from each other. If there's something you want to change, just fork, make your changes, and send me a pull request. Hopefully you can also build and test your changes before sending the pull request, but if you don't have an Infuse at the moment I will understand.
I do this for fun so you shouldn't feel any obligation to donate, but here's a link if you want to. Donations of any amount are very much appreciated.

this is just the kernel, no need, its in 1.3.1. If you are running 1.3.0, you need to upgrade using the 1.3.0-1.3.1 upgrade odin flash. DO NOT use the 1.2.1-1.3.1 upgrade zip, it will brick you if you are on 1.3.0 and have lagfix enabled

I tried flashing refused and then the lagifx kernel from red cwm, and it froze on the samsung logo.. tried again, went into mounts and storage, tried formatting system, and it did it instantly, reflashed refused and lagfix again, still hung on the samsung logo....
Reflashed infused 1.3.1 at that point, watching the install, the format system portion of your installer script went extremely fast, nothing happened, it flashed, and booted that time. but nothing is getting formatted...
flashed back to stock, watched your install of infused 1.3.1 on green cwm, and the format system took considerably longer, actually doing it, and then it booted clean, and enabled lagfix... so something fishy is going on with red CWM...

Wiping system finishing fast just means your system partition was already empty. This is the expected behavior.
Regardless, I don't doubt that there could be some issues with red. We'll see if the kernel I post tomorrow fixes anything.
Also, not sure what h8rifts current updater-script looks like, but he may need to update it to be compatible with red CWM.
All stock and hacked kernel sources and ramdisks are now on my github.

My red one works fine. I flashed bionix 1.2 which failed (still), so I wiped and reinstalled infused 1.3.1 full, it worked great. When you wipe do you select wipe data in cwm or just flash rom? Just flashing has never seemed to clear data for me. I always wipe data option in cwm. The only issue I see with cwm is rom manager not sending you into red, I deleted update.zip and rom manager stopped booting to cwm all together.

[RECOVERY] CWM for the SK4G. Enjoy!

Special thanks goes out to everyone who tested for me.
I do not have the device, so I rely heavily on testers to report any bugs.
Here is CWM for the SK4G.
You will need to modify your stock recovery binary to be able to use CWM.
Kernel Devs can also compile CWM into their kernel by extracting the update.zip and building it into their initramfs.
To replace your stock recovery binary with the modified binary:
download this file
DEAD. USE BALI KERNEL
Exatract and take the recovery binary file inside of it and use root explorer or adb push the file to /system/bin.
DO NOT delete the current one there, or rename any files.
Just overwrite it.
I would however, recommend getting Android Commander from www.androidcommander.com It's a lot easier, and a lot more useful.
CWM Final
DEAD. USE BALI KERNEL
Place in the root of your SD.
You can now use Quick Boot from the market, or adb reboot recovery to boot into CWM
I have sent Koush the device tree to have the official update.zip supported within Rom Manager.
UNTESTED:
You can also take the contents from the update.zip and replace the contents that are in noobnl's recovery rerouter/root.
Again, I haven't tested that due to not having the device.
First! Congrats krylon and thank you

How to get Dr. Honk's KG4 with root+Voodoo+Recovery working!

Hello,
I wasn't able to post a response in the Development forums yet, so please move this thread if you see fit and sorry as I'm still new to posting here.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I am using the original full leaked version of the ROM.
If you are having issues using ODIN to flash Dr. Honk's amazing new kernel: [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032] Or if you are having issues with not seeing your SD card after successfully flashing the kernel try the steps below:
If your having issues with ODIN, get Winrar and extract the zimage from the tar file and use heimdall and it should flash correctly. After you flash the kernel and boot up, you may notice your not seeing your SD card. Try going to recovery which you can now! Wipe your data<factory> then your Cache, then wipe your Dalvik Cache and use fix permissions. Reboot and you should now see your SD card, only catch to this kernel is Dr. Honk's forgot to add busybox, so I would go to the market and get it then you can also use Voodoo lag fix.
It's working great for me! Good Job Dr. Honk!
You would likely get a little more assistance if you would give more info (what room you're currently using; where you're stuck).
honestly, if you're having issues with this install you would probably do better to wait.

LoL, no problem man...I just figured it would be good to give back to this great community with some helpfull info for once
thanks for the tip!
dont know if this helps or not but this is how i got mine working:
i flashed kg4 leak then did dsextons gb rom root,
then i installed busy box and installed on phone,
then flashed drhonks new kernal for kg4 (his new download works)
now everything works great in=m on ext 4 system cache and data and also have cwm recovery support
Thanks for the tips.
I tried all above, the SD shows right, but I still cannot have lagfix properly work and convert EXT4. Everytime system restart, it reports not enough space on SD card, but actually I have 14 GB available on my SD.
I did my flash exactly like jdubb. it worked flawlessly. Thanks drhonk for everything you do for us

Hunter, can you try this:
pop in an other micro sd, boot into CWM, format sd, enable voodoo ext4 and reboot.
if you don't have a spare one, backup files from the current sd card then proceed as above.
Can someone post the precise links and directions that they used to get this working, please! Much appreciated!
Bro, I really appreciate your quick tip, but I tried it, the issue remains.
Having been searched XDA whole afternoon, still have no idea

I was reviewing the source code of voodoo lagfix, just feel like the my sdcard available space is not properly read from lagfix code.
Not sure if you guys still using the factory SD card, I am using the 16GB one came with the phone.
Issues with SD card.
For those of you with issues on their SD card, did you by chance try enabling lagfix via Voodoo Control app? That is what I had to do to get lagfix working properly. I disabled it via recovery and then enabled it via control app. Somehow got it working that way lol.
Unable to answer inbound calls
The install went flawless and phone works great. I do have a major issue though, inbound calls are cause a force close and create an instand missed call. Is anyone else having issues being able to answer inbound calls? I can make calls just fine, it just refuses to let me answer a call.
I am currently running:
2.3.4 KG 6 with the 2.6.35.7 Kernal.
This worked great for me on kg4, but for some reason i flash this on kg6 and after the flash boots up fine. But whenever i restart my phone i get a boot loop at the samsung screen. So confused Any ideas?

I was getting the same thing when I turned on Voodoo so I went back to recovery to disable Voodoo (I had to use ADB since the phone wasn't functional long enough to use the Quickboot app).
Then (per crackpot in a dev thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16264528&postcount=222) booted back up and used the Busybox Installer from stericson to make sure Busybox was installed into bin and not xbin.
Then back to recovery and enable Voodoo.

Rooting Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G (Noob!)

Hey Guys,
I know there are several posts out there that exist which ponder upon how exactly to root the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, but majority of the threads reference to Gingerbread, and not the ICS. I previously owned a MyTouch 4G, and had rooted it, and had upgraded to this phone few months ago, as it was on a nice sale, and I would like to install CM10 on it once again. I am not familiar with the instructions as to rooting this device either, as I am completely lost.
Can someone please provide me a step by step instruction for rooting this phone so I can install ROMs? I would really appreciate it, and would love to contribute back by creating my own (updated) how-to for rooting this device.
As for specifics, this device is running Android Version 4.0.4.
Thanks!
This is the guide you need for ics:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919228
Let me know if you have questions. First and foremost, get rid of kies on your computer, kill it with fire. Then plug in that Blaze so drivers download. Then start the guide.

I got all the way upto Step 3, where Odin had given me the green box. When I reach to Step 4, it mentions to go on the ADB command, what exactly am I supposed to do? Can you happen to make that entire step more noob-friendly?
Additionally, how would I flash the SuperUser zip file? I am assuming I would run this through ClockWorkMod?
Sorry for all these silly questions!

No, don't worry about adb, use the other method to get into recovery. Holding the volume and power buttons. Hold all three (volume up/down, power) slow count to ten, let go of the power button (keep holding the volumes) and keep holding until you get into recovery! Then once there, go to install zip, select superuser zip, flash! Rooted bro.
Some words for you. I think you'll be able to find cm10 "stable", it's not the one you want. Look through the last few pages of the cm10 thread to find the best one. Last I checked @thomas.raines 4.1.2 (cm10) version of ParanoidAndroid is available to flash, it's super stable, and super awesome. If you go above 4.1.2, there are small bugs (do a bit of reading in the op's of those ROMs), a side effect of a great piece of hardware being left behind by Samsung. If you want to go above 4.1.2, you'll need to update your recovery. Read through the development forum, that thread is in there. Any questions, feel free to ask! Happy to have another active member!

You mentioned about CM10 by a different dev. Is the CM10 ROM offered throuh CM's site itself (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=t769) good enough? I was intending to download the most stable ROM offered.
Thanks for the great support!

The ParanoidAndroid build is my personal opinion. The "stable" CM10 isn't that stable (I only know this by reading through the development thread for that rom). If you're dead-set on using Cyanogen the stable build isn't great (again from what I read) and there's a much better build somewhere in the development thread. The ParanoidAndroid I mentioned is CM based (very similar) and, imo, a better rom. But it's your choice, don't let me sway you. Try them both and see which one you prefer, really. But I do know the stable one posted isn't the one you want. And FYI, CM10 = 4.1.2.

Haha, should of taken your word on that earlier. I installed the ROM, re-backed up everything, till I find out the Camera has that "No External Storage Message"... I will have to check out that ParanoidAndroid ROM. Thanks for the help, look's like I am on my way to rocking a rooted Android once again!
Quick question, I couldn't find a link to the official CM10 based ROM you had mentioned, can you possibly provide the link?
If best, what is the most stable ROM available for this device? I would prefer to avoid experimenting as I am in school and don't have enough time to do so

I'm sorry man, I just realized that the version available for PA isn't what I said. That's my bad. I'll chat with @thomas.raines and see if he can provide a link or something. I'll get back to you on that one.
As far as other stable ROMs, this is AOKP, it was the first rom I Flashed after I rooted, so it has a special place in my heart. I checked the rom link, it's good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989825
I haven't ran it in a long while, but I remember it being stable and fast.
This is Liquidsmooth, another I ran that was also stable. I don't remember much about it but I saw that I had it in my signature for a little bit. I won't stay with a rom if it's not stable, so since it was in a sig, it must have been good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284763
Try these two and see what you think. If you don't like em, I'll figure something out with thomas and see if I can't get PA back up.
This is a VERY slim gapps package. I'm running it right now on my phone and my Tab. When I say slim, I mean it has Play store and all syncing abilities. That's it. No Search, Gmail, Hangouts, etc. If you want something with all the Google goodies, look around. I'm not one to run gapps with a bunch of Google stuff so I don't know where to look for an updated 4.1.2 package.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240652
So, experiment. Have fun. And if you need speakerphone, scanning camera, then you want to stay at 4.1.2. If those things aren't important, look into the kitkat ROMs, they're excellent. If you decide to go kitkat, you MUST update your recovery.

Thanks for the links, I will install both! You mentioned you install the slimest possible GAPPS, why is that, if I may ask?
EDIT: I reflashed the AOKP ROM, no luck. I am going to flash the other Liquid Smooth ROM and see what happens.
Sorry for the double post again, but I went ahead and installed the AOKP ROM you had posted.
When I go through CWM, it picks up my SD card that I am using, but for some reason, when I have the phone booted up, I go to my camera and get an error that reads similar to what I was getting with the original CM10 which is "No external storage available". Any ideas on how to fix this? I did hit to mount my sdcard on CWM, but no luck. Did reboots and what not, still no luck.
Hmm... In the camera settings, is there an option to change the directory of where a picture saves? Or, and you should check this first, open a file Explorer and go to your ext sd card. Do you have a folder named DCIM?
I don't like all the Google Apps mainly because they cause a ton of wakelocks and I don't ever use them. I use Chrome, but DL'ing that from the Play store asked me to Greenify it, keeping it under control.

My external SD card does exist when I go to file explorer, and can access all my files on it. I cannot save anything at the moment (from Screenshot, to downloading, to viewing gallery) as I get that dang "No external storage available" message.

Alright, so here's what I'm thinking. The stock cameras (if I remember) don't have the option to save to external storage. It was this limitation that made me use a different camera app. So, go to Play Store and get Camera JB+, it has an option to save to external SD card. Find the option (long press the screen, go to settings) change it to external and see if that helps. Or, go into stock camera and see if it has that option. Same with the browser, within settings somewhere there should be an option to change storage location.
If none of that works, my last suggestion is to format both internal and external in recovery. Of course this deletes everything, so transfer all files you want to keep to a computer then format both. Reflash rom on clean install (format cache, dalvik, data, and system) then Reflash everything.
In fact, what did you format/wipe before you Flashed the rom and gapps? This is important and might be the issue...

I originally was running ICS Stock, after that I flashed to CM10. After that, it was AOKP 4.2.1, and now it is Liquid Smooth's 4.2.1. When I plug my phone into the computer, I cannot access the internal memory card either (just noticed this).
SO... I have fixed the issues!
I found the Stock ROM, flashed that, and suddenly my Camera worked again. After that, I decided to reflash AOKP, and now everything works fluidly! I can't tell what exactly the problem was, but it looks like I have resolved the issues.
Thanks a lot for your help! I look forward to learning more and contributing to the community!

I did the usual Format and wipe Cache, I usually do those every time when I would flash a new ROM.
