Multitasking? - HTC Sensation

Hey guys. I've noticed that although the ram on my phone is pretty good multitasking is absolutely appauling. An app will stay open for ten minutes. Approximately maximum before it just ends up closing although it still shows it as running. I want multitasking like ios where once you open the app it will stay open forever until you manually close it. Is there any rom or kernel or anything that will provide me with such a multitasking experience. I wouldn't mind the battery I have an anker 1900.

I do but just a few minutes the app will close in the background. I was browsing the web and switched to email. To send three and the Facebook. Altogether about 8 minutes and when I switched back to the internet it had to reload and went to the homescreen. The multitasking in the HTC sensation is awful.

Not sure what to tell you... that's not my experience at all. I find that when I start the browser, it is left at a page I had looked at yesterday! It seems to me that thinks almost never get closed...

Saving battery life

Hi all.
Looking for some serious help. Coming from a Samsung vibrant. I need help with how to save battery life on the sensation. I have been off charger for 5 hours and 51 minutes and am down to 41%. Is this normal? I have been only texting really. I got my data from battery monitor.
Thanks in advance. Anyway to make this better?

It all depends on what you're using the phone for. I'm at 55% after 12 hours. yesterday I got 17 hours. if all you're doing us texting then no,thats not normal. but I suspect you're probably doing more with it than you realize since its a new toy.

He prolly has running wifi as well?
Settings > Wireless and networks > Wifi settings > [MENU BUTTON] > Advanced > Wifi sleep policy > After 15 minutes
Stop Android from phoning home and you'll save greatly on battery life.
Best way I've found to prevent battery drain, is to stop Android from phoning home.
Once you use an app like Autostarts to stop unnecessary things from starting up all the time on their own and also block a couple ports that are not always needed via an app like DroidWall, you'll see great battery life. Also see other details in that link of things I turned off to increase battery life amoung other benefits.
For now, I can only speak for seeing the difference while using a Nexus One ROM on my HD2, but I have way better battery life, GPS lock times and faster device boot ups than ever before.
This is yet another one of the reasons I must wait till the Sensation is rooted and unlocked. Because I'm not using it while it's running things I can't better manage, so they don't drain my battery.

How did u get that much? I have battery monitor as a widget. I also did not charge the phone all the way up when I first got it.

Well to be honest for the 8 hours I'm at work, I use it light. texting, a few calls and about 30 minutes of reading pulse and playing games. However the next 8-9 hours I would consider moderate to heavy use. I have no monitors or anything running, just running straight out of the box.
I'm at 34% after 14.5 hours today.
I charged it fully the first day, ran it to 0, then charged it fully again last night.

Did draining it out help? It is really killing my battery. When my phone idles it loses about 7 percent an hour. Is this normal?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Mine is at most 3% per hour so I would say check if you have any running apps that aren't supposed to be.
I suppose draining could have helped but I have no way of knowing for sure
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Yeah I killed my battery in 12 hours with decent use and then charged to 88 had to go but now down to 35 three hours later ....thinking of draining battery and then charging

I think custom kernel can improve battery a lot..Wait
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
I think mine's even worse. Phone was off charger at 100% at 11am, by 1:30PM it's already down to 80%ish. By 4PM it was down to 40%ish, got it charged up to about 70%ish around 6PM, by midnight I was around 6% again.
So I think I'm losing around 10%/hr. That's gotta be abnormal, and the battery gets really hot too. At the moment, I have several speculations:
1. Death grip causing the phone to work harder to find signal, and tmo's coverage kinda sucks in my town
2. I have defective unit/battery
3. Some apps behind the scene are killing it. But I've checked what's running behind, even turned off unnecessary stuff using autorun manager. Auto sync is turned of only for gmails. Weather, IMAP mails, pulse, facebook etc are set to pull in couple hrs instead hourly. The battery life cannot be worse than my 2-yr old HD2.
Hey guys. Have you considered bump charging. HTC advised the idea for the HTC desire battery and it in most cases doubles the battery.
Sorry I can't be more specific bit I'm on my phone. I have found the relevant link. Read the 1st post. I'm gonna do it when I get in from my gig.

Bump charging kills the battery in long run.
If you have to do it to a brand new handset it can't be good news.

I'd suggest uninstalling battery monitor. I had installed it on my g2x and immediately saw my battery percentage drajning more quickly. Probably because its always running in the background.
The best tip I can give for better battery life is to minimize what you allow to run in the background. Get rid of any task killers, set Facebook/Twitter/Email/etc to sync less frequently, turn off wifi if you're not using it so its not scanning for networks, and so on.
Also install juice defender from the Market. Its free. It has greatly increased my battery life.

I installed the Plus version because it allows wifi control. I just use the default settings except I change so it doesn't disable wifi. I do that because I use wifi calling at home so I dont want Juice Defender turning off my wifi. I always turn it off manually when I leave the house anyway.

Yea Balanced Settings is good if you don't mind it managing your wifi too. In the Plus version I selected Customize instead of Balanced. The only thing I changed was the wifi setting. There's a ton more settings to configure but the default ones work fine for me and I don't have the patience to sift through them all anyway lol

I agree but recommend you take the time to set up each setting on customise mode and you'll be amazed how much extra battery you save fr!!om the default values. Only takes about 5 mins

White HTC Screen

When pressing the home screen button to get back to the homescreen, has anyone had the white HTC screen pop and then had to wait several seconds while their phone went back to their homescreen? This happens to me several seconds a day and its very frustrating and makes me consider returning my phone. Do anyone have a suggestion for stopping this?

Yes this has happened to me too. I believe it may have something to do where you use an application that uses alot of resources e.g Emulators and video services. A way to minimize the times this happens is by installing an Advanced task manager and clearing your RAM every so often to save battery, speed performance, and prevent that white screen!
It happens to me when I'm switching between ADW Ex and the stock launcher, but other than that it doesn't really happen.

But my phone I'd not forcing close. None of my applications have forced close yet.

It was covered even earlier than that:

So this thread, and the thread in the quoted text, can both be closed!
It's due to the Sense launcher being pushed out of memory and having to reload. A perfectly normal occurrence due to the way Android handles RAM. Memory intensive activities, such as internet browsing with lots of windows, or large games, will cause it to happen.

White HTC screen after exiting to home

As the subject says, whenever I exit an app or the browser, it goes to the white htc screen and then it says loading for abt 15 second and it'll take me back home. Anyone know what causes this?

Sounds suspiciously like rosie is being killed by something every time it goes to the background.

it's a RAM issue! I solved it by uninstalling the new Market App (I cannot use the new functionality here in Europe, anyway) and other services that I didn't used that I had running in the background!
Problem solved!
With all the love I have for my Sensation, I feel HTC should have gone with more memory!!
How can I get the old market back?

I would have to say it's HTC's over-bloated Sense that is the problem. With CM7 I always have 300-200 Mb of unused memory. I can run games, videos, anything memory intensive and still never use it all.
As for the white screen when hitting home... It's a memory issue with Sense. I would get that back when I ran stock ROM.

Multitasking

I've tried the mods, but it just still doesn't seem like this phone is multitasking. It seems more time based than it does ram availability.
I don't know... My prior phone was an infuse and it just seems like when I went back to apps they were always where I left them, and if I had stuff typed in... It would still be there.
Anyone agree or disagree and if you do disagree, how do you have your multitasking modded or setup?
Thanks

I too have always had a problem with multitasking. For instance MOG just pauses for no reason if I have more than one app open. Same with another app called doods music player. Browser refreshes if I leave it for more than 10 seconds. I've tried everything, used min free, flashed clean roms multitask fix and it still sucks. I am a huge music buff and without true multi tasking it sucks.

Slight lag in returning to home screen on Viper 1.1.0

Hey, first of all I want to say this is the best Rom I have ever used and it is very fast and fluid.
The only time it ever slows sluggishness seems to be when I leave an app and go back to the smokescreen. It can sometimes take up to 3 seconds to bring me back. After swiping back and forth the home screen becomes very fluid.
I'm thinking that the home screen may not be stored in the ram. Any suggestions or ideas? I did not do a full wipe when coming from 1.0.1 BTW. Could this be the culprit? I would rather not dopey phone if I don't have too.
Thanks a ton guys!

My home screen runs smooth and perfect immediately upon returning to it,albeit the stuff reloading in the widgets.

Hi you might want to post this on the vipers development web site. They know the issues best with this Rom . Hope this helps. Best wishes . Perhaps they know of a trick to stop the lag your referring to . I do know a full wipe is not necessary but HIGHLY recommended . I read this when I was running viper. So you might want to back up your apps and data using something like titanium backup and try the full wipe then restore the apps through titanium and see if this solves you're issue . Hope it works for you!
