Hi everyone! I've one of the first ROM came out after the releasing of the kernel for our phone, it's not bad but sometimes seems slow (especially typing).
I was looking for something very fast and stable, I don't care so much about customization or overclocking.
Do you think I should think of came back to stock? Which rom do you suggest?
Thanks for any help!
at this moment , i suggest you KANGY-V8 by HAKA and mathkid95's Matr1x 15.0 CFS with Weathley + SIO , everything's good
Thanks! I'll give them a shot!
Stock gingerbread
I was actually looking for something similar myself(in terms of stability), but i actually do want a little more customizations and tweaks, i was going to try
CyberGR-MOD, would that be a good choice?

probably not , becuase i was using it before
it's good , but however , there some MOD like "search key for recent apps" and some themes from theme section , weren't able to be applied in that ROM ...
if you wanted these MOD, you have to do it yourself ...

Thanks, one last question though, when you were using it was it stable?
I have been using Codename Android Rom(used to be AOSP+)
I must say it one of the best Roms I have tried. I suggest everyone to try it.
I just registered at XDA but I have been following the Scene for a while. I have using this rom for more than a month. I was on nexus beam but its not as fast and stable as Codename android.
this Rom is great because:
1-Great stability
2-no reboots whatsoever
3-very smooth and fast(including typing) I used to have sluggish keyboard on other roms, not this one.
4-Great Battery life
5-AOSP so its built from scrach so its clean and has nice simple mods and tweaks
Check it out : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1463437
I also suggest using Eugenes speedy Kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401455
the Rom and Kernel above are just sooo compatible. I have the best android experience ever
Good luck

really nice work of HAKA and MATHKID95
KANGY8 or AndroidME or Android Beam.. cant go wrong with any of them..
I'm using too v8 by haka with matrix kernel 14.5 cfs
3 days now with good battery Life and no reboots! Rock and stable
A few things doesn't work for me on these rom:
-mms like others rom
- voodoo app doesn't saves settings if i reboot my nexus

I'm usin pete's bugless beast, never had reboots, freezes or something. It runs very smooth and fast, and battery life is great. I always have 2 days, with little usage even 3 days. I'm using steven garons kernel with default settings and bln on.
Apex 1.0.0 with Speedy 7. No problems at all.

Still not as fast as the good old Oxygen based on Gingerbread but the improvement on ICS makes this ROM the top

Currently running MIUI 1.99 with Matr1x #5 kernel. Looking to flash a new ROM and/or kernel as it's been awhile. There's so many of each that I don't know where to start. My main priorities are stability and speed.
The only other ROM I've used is Cyanogenmod but I had a lot of issues with random reboots. Have these issues gotten better?
Any ROM suggestions? Thanks
Rooted stock with Matr1x. I recently switched back after months on CM7 doing the nightly flash routine. Don't miss it a single bit.

I don't even remember what the stock rom is like. I got cyanogen almost inmediately after getting my phone. Perhaps I'll try stock... what's the best way to go about doing this? Do i need to unroot my phone?

backup apps with titanium backup + factory reset (wipe data/cache/dalvik) + flash stock rom.
here you can find a great collection http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
you DO loose root by flashing a stock rom, but you just have to re-flash superuser (and maybe cwm if needed). I find the stock gingerbread rom very fast and reliable.
Plus, you'll receive the ICS ota when it's ready
(but you'll need to flash the stock recovery)
Wait another 2-3 weeks and flash ice cream sandwich.

Flash deck 1.3. Really fast stable and great battery life. Its just like stock rom with a few extra tweaks. Has some of cm7 mods without the bloat. Has toggle switches on the drop down and some status bar tweaks but very stable and like I said its close to stock. Running it with matrix 9.0. Give it try.

Sorry man its in the nexus s 4g dev section but i cant find it on the GSM dev section. You can always try oxygen rom which is very similar to deck which I was running before I flashed deck. Has the same kind of tweaks more or less. Was also a really good rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285243
give carbon a shot. it's based on oxygen but gives better performance than any rom i've used since getting this phone

I'd suggest NSCollab and a trinity kernel. This combo worked well for me but I caught the flashing bug since getting this Nexus S and now I'm off to try Nexus MV.
you should try superosr rom (AOSP), very fast and include CM settings as well
I've been trying all NS Roms, and I'll prefer NSCollab because,
-Fast and stable (Near 5000 in quadrant)
-Never had a random reboot
-Extremely stable at 1,2GHz
-Probably the best CM7-based ROM
I don't give a opinion about which kernel u need to use, because they are all awesome, for the highest score in Quadrant, use the Trinity TUV kernel.
But I like the Netarchy or Matr1x kernel more because they are more stable in my eyes. I hope this will give you some more information
U can also wait for ICS (IceCream Sandwich), it will be awesome too.
I'd suggest stock rom + stock kernel.
lower quadrant score but higher performance
Oxygen 2.3 with Matr1x
4097 quadrant at 1,3Ghz.
*UPDATE*
Try the Franco.Kernel, tested it, very stable and high performance.
Greets.
Matr1x all the way bud lmao
Hello NS community! I exchanged my Desire for my fiancee's NS and now I'm flash happy.
I intentionally did not ask what the BEST ROM was to avoid a flame war, so please share what you find to be your FAVOURITE ICS flavour.
Until now I tried CyberGR-MOD v1 but it was very unstable for me so I was unimpressed. Next up on the flash list are CM9 Alpha 18 and Peter Alfonso's ROM.
Suggestions?

Thanks, for now I'm running CM9 Alpha18 and seems to be quite stable.
I just flashed bixies' ROM last night and it seems to be very stable so far.

It has been feeling very smooth, at least in the few hours I've used it. We'll see how it goes.
AOSP+ and Matrix 14 cfs gives me a great combination of performance and battery life. I tried ICUP too and it gives great performance but battery life is better with Matrix.
So is CM9 smooth and stable enough to be used as my everyday ROM? Also, are there any posts or wikis about all the different kernels, guides on flashing and their pros and cons? My last dev device was a Blade and there weren't nearly as many different kernels and options available for that. Oh, and does CM9 come with a kernel..I don't need to flash anything else?

What I normally do is:
* do a full wipe (system, data, cache) if you are flashing a different ROM
* flash ROM first, reboot to make sure it runs properly
* flash kernel, wipe dalvik-cache (or also cache, just in case)
Always flash a ROM that says it supports your phone model. Also make sure that if you're using ICS ROM then flash an ICS kernel. On the other hand, if you're using GB ROM then flash a GB kernel.

1. RemICS 1.3 with dhiru kernel
Quite good, reasonable battery life, nice performance.
2. RemICS 1.3 with vurrut 1.8
Nice performance, nice battery.
3. Pandora miui(now closed) with vurrut 1.7
Exceptional battery life, with no lags, nice performance. Still hd gaming lags :-(
4. pandora miui with vurrut 1.8
Similar results, not much notable differences except a bit betterbattery life.
5. Pandora miui, with arindam kernel(along with rom)
Stuck on bootloop
P.S. Pandora miui had 3 inbuilt kernels to select while flashing (vurrut 1.7, arindam, dhiru kernel)
Presently on stock rom xxkpu, with bafaria, cf root kernel !

Been flashing Custom Roms & Kernels insanely these few days trying to get the most perfect Custom Rom and Kernel. I have decided to use ViperS 1.1.0 as my main Custom Rom, I'm now deciding which Kernel best go with it and that's it, I can finally starting doing my stuff on my phone instead of searching for Roms and Kernels everyday to flash. Lol, after rooting my phone, I haven't like used it yet at all, all I did was looking for Custom Roms and Kernels to flash to find which best for me.....
Well anyway, can a ViperS 1.1.0 user please tell me which Kernel is good? I'm looking for a Kernel that has good battery life and a bit good performance. I have tried many Kernels but can't notice the difference between them.
Also how would I change the Kernel's settings? Like if I want to change the Governor, how would I change it?

As some people already said, Sebastian`s kernel is very good. His kernel + as much Undervoltage as is stable for your phone should make a good performance with good battery life I`m plaaying Dead Trigger with Tegra effects enabled, and no lags with -75mV, but you need to find out what UV level is good and stable for you
and BTW guys, what mods are you talking about? I looked at his thread and didn`t find any mods. Do you mean that OC and ZRAM or there are any other mods?

For kernel settings such as govs and uv, you can use an app such as system tuner. It allows you to change a multitude of kernel settings, including clock speed.

I am talking about all from my signature
Sebastians kernel doesnt offer any options to choose as I know.
The same with MOD Take Control - but you may change some things by System Tuner app.
There is a link to a MOD for seb's kernel in the viper thread, posted not so long ago. It allows you to change a whole bunch of stuff for his kernel such as uv and even second phase frequencies. It's a seperate zip you flash after flashing the kernel itself.
