[Q] Titanium Backup - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hello All,
A question concerning Titanium Backup (which I think I know the answer to).
When an App is Frozen, will it still run in the back ground when the phone is started...how can we be sure?
Thanks

As far as I know once its frozen it will never run in the background unless you unfreeze it

Anyone know how to take the at&t widgets off the widget list?

Anyone know how to take the at&t widgets off the widget list? Im on a Captivate rooted, (oclf) and have root explorer (if that matters).

You can use root explorer to delete the files associated with them or titanium backup will also remove system apks. Just be sure you know what the names are, some can be quite cryptic.
The files are in system/app directory but some apps also have other files associated with them.
Titanium backup has a feature where you can freeze them which essentially disables them and you can defrost thus reenabling should you find you made an error or change your mind.

I've tried TB, but for some reason, it slowed my phone down. I can try it again. When they are froze, will that eliminate them from the widget list?

Cool thanx man. And does anyone else have an issue freezing apps on captivate and TB keeps saying its freezing the app. I let my phone sit for like 10 mins trying to freeze one app!

No problems with freezing at all. Its a quick process and defrosting is just as quick

So as soon as you hit "freeze" it does its thing, then you can choose the next app? Maybe I should haver restarted my phone or something after untangling TB.

Hey there,
If you happen to be running Launcher Pro, you can hit Menu - Preferences - General Settings - Hidden Apps. Here you can check what you don't want to see in your apps list.
As far as Titanium Backup goes, I've never tried the Freeze option - I've just deleted what I didn't want (as long as I knew what it was!)
Hope this helps!

Yeah that helped I been hiding that apps with LP, but I figured everything out using TB. I just went ahead and bought it. Thanx everyone for your input!

You can also get autostarts and disable the widgets from starting.

Tip: Backup ALL DATA

This is just a friendly tip that you should follow even if you don't plan of rooting or flashing any ROMs. I have personally tried several different Roms and after rooting the phone, I can say it's a major pain to have to rebuild. Every time you modify your device backup the Data and possibly your apps if you don't feel like re-downloading them. Hopefully this helps people who are new to the area of rooting and ROMs like I was a short while ago.
Titanium backup and nandroid are your friend.
My Backup Pro also gets the job done.

I was wondering about this. So titanium/my backup pro will back up app data on a non-rooted phone, so it can be restored post-rooting?
Even though the app is installed on the SD, the user data is still actually stored on the phone regardless, I take it.
I just want to keep my angry birds progress that exists now on my currently non-rooted phone, and get it back after root.
Any clarification on this would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure that titanium backup cannot back up app data unless the phone is already rooted - not sure about MyBackupPro.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It's a good question and I'm not sure only because I was rooted before I backed up when I rooted I forgot to backup and started again.

Indeed titanium does require root for its primary functionality, but I'm not sure if that extends to simply reading user data, and then copying it to an additional location (ie backing up).
As far as freezing/uninstalling software or *reinstalling* previously backed-up user data, root certainly is required.
I don't see how it wouldn't be feasible to at least read user data of an app, unless the Android system, by design, limits the access of an apps user data to the app itself.
I just did a my backup pro backup, but I can't really tell if it actually got the user data for sure, (though it indicated that's what it was doing).
Hope I can get this issue squared away, as I'm itching to get this thing rooted.

When I open backup pro it asks if I want to enable backup of root files. I think it just allows extra files to be backed up if you're rooted.

I'm gonna have to do a little more in-depth research later-on when I get to my computer, and see how these apps handle backing-up user/app data on an unrooted phone.
I was never in this situation on my previous phone, a captivate, because it was my first Android, and I rooted early-on...it was a lot more straightforward.

Titanium Backup. Buy the premium version.

They have a non-rooted version, unless that's changed, but I'm not sure if it still has the same functionality/ability that the rooted version does.

Your not going to be able to backup any user-specific data associated with any given app unless your rooted, or the app itself has a mechanism for backing up/exporting your custom data. There may be some way of doing something via adb, but I'm not sure, and it would seem that biting the bullet and rooting, and then being able to backup thoroughly from that point forward, would be less hassle in the long run.
The apps themselves, or at least a list of them is backed-up to Google if you have that option set. So if you get a new phone or reset, the first time you setup the phone, Google retrieves those apps automatically.
I do believe that mybackup pro, and perhaps even titanium, will backup the apps themselves (the .apks) ONLY, even if you aren't rooted, but that really isnt very useful, especially if you have the Google backup mechanism enabled.
These apps need root in order to gain access to the location on the phone where apps store any of the data you have created with those apps.

Using Titanium to remove operator bloat?

Is it safe to remove the demo games and other rubbish using titanium backup? I get a warning about might having to reinstall the ROM, what's the chances of this happening?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
Its perfectly fine, but back up allthe apps you delete and maybe even do a backup from CWM just incase. Be warned though removing something that requires another can cause sh*t to go wrong, for instance Samsung bloatware is safe, Google maps, places, yellow pages, all that jazz is safe... others that seem to be system oriented, other than the blatantly obvious PHONE AND MESSAGING OR FILE EXPLORE shouldn't be removed, the rest should be safe, nothing that'll destroy your phone, and if it does, that's why you made a backup

Switching ROMS...

I know that this might sound like a stupid question, but how exactly do you guys manage to flash ROMS on a weekly basis? When I flash ROMS, I always have to re download everything and setup everything back to the way it was... I don't know but I've been constantly active in these forums and I always see you guys flashing the latest ROMS and other stuff... Am I missing out on something here? Is there a way where I can have things the way it was after flashing a new ROM? I'm trying to learn how to use Titanium Backup but I'm having troubles with it.
And just a side note, is it normal to check XDA every day? Like dude I always check the threads to see what cool stuff I can do with a rooted phone. It's like Facebook man, I'm on this more than that haha.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Well, I personally don't flash that often (mainly cuz I can't spend the time to set stuff up and check for bugs and such due to school and being busy), but when I did I pretty much swear by titanium backup. I bought the pro version and now I can't imagine going back to regular. That said, there are others that do pretty much the same thing, but my favorite is TiBu. What kind of issues you having with it?
Also yes. Its perfectly normal. I check multiple times a day. Same thing, wanting to keep up with everything, and I literally read every thread in the s3 section. Its definitely better than Facebook. Lol

hey
I am also interested in learning how to use Titanium backup. Haven't really dived into it yet tho. But I feel the same way. I usually try and do some research about whatever I'm flashing because I usually stick with it and try not to switch roms very much. Setting up the settings I like in the roms takes to long for me to be jumping from rom to rom.
To complement using Titanium Backup, I use Nova launcher (any launcher will do actually) and I restore my homescreens with the touch of a button.

Nope, you just back it up. Of course like I said, the pro version is awesome and is totally worth it. Also its cheaper through the website instead of the play store.

I flash roms pretty much on a daily basis, and its because of titanium backup. I use it even when I'm not restoring stuff because its also how I remove bloatware that I don't need and clean up system apps. If a person only bought 1 pro version android app I would recommend it be titanium backup.

See here's the thing that I'm confused on... I did a backup of all my apps, and I know where the folder is. Once I flash a new ROM, do I download TB and restore from there or do I flash it from recovery?

Well both are acceptable ways since TB permits you to do either. This depends on whether you made the backup via an update.zip or just did the manual process. I prefer the manual process, so I restore using TB.

With the help of Aroma, it makes it very easy to change ROMs for me.
I can pick only what is wanted, which saves me a lot of time removing what I consider bloat. and I use Astro to restore all my apps (personal preference)
I can install a ROM and be set up the way I want it in 5 minutes. If I know what I want, like for a TW ROM.
I haven't used AOSP in a while though, so an AOSP ROM would take some more time for me, but I personally enjoy the TW ROMs too much to change.
I've been using Nandroid Manager to manage my backups. Its by the same person that does the Online Nandroid app in the play store. I find it much more streamlined and user friendly than titanium. Restores backups faster too. It might not be as robust as titanium but it does everything I need it to. Makes flashing a snap. I nandroid my current setup, flash something new, if I like it I'll play around with it and restore my backed up apps to it. If not I just go back to my nandroid.

You can do it through Astro? How? And if you do your backups, does it store the data/cache you have?
And by the way, I love your work!

So if you store your backups there, it'll be like a screenshot of your current homescreen (similar to doing backups in recovery)?
another vote for titanium. combined with nova launcher im able to restore my phone back to the way i want it in under 25 minutes.

Yep. Just restore app+data (apex for me), launch it, and it's set up exactly as it was when you did your backup.

I too swear by titanium backup. I always backup/restore my apps but not system data as in my experience it can change between roms. I also click options when on main screen of titanium backup, then backup to xml and save my call log, texts, and wifi points so that I can restore them on the new rom.
Titanium backup will be your friend and always make sure you nandroid. I don't know how many times I have tried a rom and hated it within 20 minutes so I had to restore. I have been on one rom for 5 days now and I am getting the itch to try something new.

Something to point out about TiBu: you can make flash able zips of your filters. I keep filters for user apps and useful system data (like data usage, WiFi APs). If you do it this way, you might want to remove the tibu apk that gets stuffed in as well. I remove it, because I always flash the tibu apk itself immediately after a ROM and before gapps. That way, I can restore my android ID and various services don't think I have 10 different S3s.
Another note, no matter what anyone says, you will not be back to your setup in 15 mins. You can get MOST of it restored, but there will be little things you'll need to go through. That's if you're like me, and are really picky about every little setting. Give yourself at least and hour and numerous reboots.
How do I deal with this? I guess I'm a flashaholic. 15 will get your core apps, but for everything to be perfect, 30-60 mins is ideal. Definitely don't do anything close to bed time if you rely on your alarm.
