Din2 Or Thunderbolt??? - Thunderbolt General

Right now I'm using a Dinc2 replacement I can ungrade to the Thunderbolt (free)but was wondering if it's really anything different other than 4G between the two as I'm not a big user of the Internet nor gamer on my phone? So to the gents and ladies who have the thunderbolt...what would you do?

Sell your Dinc and use the cash towards a Nexus

I love the tbolt coming from an og dinc. With 4g, basic internet use is smoking fast. This is a huge improvement in all around speed over the dinc. I dont need the latest and greatest nor do i want to spend big money on a phone. Lots of roms for tbolt, im an htc/sense guy anyways. Want beats audio? Dont need a rezound, plenty of beats roms here. I love this phone.

I feel you, donnyp1, I'm exactly in the same boat and sentiments as you, don't need the latest and the greatest, besides, could use $300 on anything else yet, still have a killer fast *****in' phone!

If you don't want to spend any money, both the Inc2 and Tbolt are good phones. I have the Tbolt and my wife has the Inc2. Mine is rooted and hers is stock. They both have the same processor and same ram, but when they are both on wifi, the Tbolt will load web pages a lot faster. Also, I have notice when receiving notifications & emails, the Tbolt will get them about 1 to 2 min. before the Inc2 will. That is receiving and email from the same person and both phones side by side on wifi. Besides 4G, the biggest difference is size and weight. I know .3 inches on screen size don't sound like much, but it is when you been looking at it all day and look at a smaller one you can tell. The inc2 does fit into the hand better, but since I have big hands, I have no problems. Like I said, both phones are great with no real problems, but I like the Tbolt for the size and the 4g speeds. If you get the Tbolt, I would get the rezound battery. I can go all day with normal use and still have battery left. I can not compare battery life to the inc2, because she talks on it a whole lot more than I do.
If I was going to spend money on a phone right now, I would get the rezound. I got my Tbolt a few weeks before the rezound came out, and I was not going to spend $300 on a phone. Now it is at a price I would think about, but a free Tbolt is very hard to beat.

If you want a new phone now for free get the Thunderbolt. If you can wait then you should. I have the Thunderbolt and love it. The 4G and kick stand are awesome.

I just sold my Dinc 2 and got a Thunderbolt and I'm loving it! Don't get me wrong, dinc 2 is a awesome phone but I like th the Thunderbolt dev community, it's a lot bigger and a 4g phone. I also realized I the Dinc2 was too small for me. I prefer phones to feel heavy, makes it feel more durable but that's my opinion. If I had the money I would get the Rezound no questions asked but my upgrade isn't until April 2013 lol.

T-bolt Hands down. I had a evo for days about wore it out, nothing coiuld compared to the $35 a month shrinkage but the net was way to slow, when my friend and i speed tested his cricket kicked my ass no matter how many servers i changed to, so i ditched boost to page plus wow what a diff, 1.5 mb dl and 1 mb upload.. I really didnt like it that much when i first got it, but now its growing on me daily..
big ups !

Assuming you haven't decided yet, they are quite different in terms of size and weight. I am currently using a Dinc2 but I have a Tbolt that I switched from sitting around and I am tempted to switch back. The Dinc2 is light and easy to use with one hand but the screen is noticeably smaller and it doesn't have the kickstand. I never thought I would use it but the kickstand is nice for watching videos and such. My Tbolt has a Rezound battery and that makes the battery life about the same between the two. If you can deal with the difference in size and weight and LTE is an option in your area, the Tbolt is a great phone.

I have had both the bolt and INC2 and would definitely recommend the Bolt (esp for free). The Rezound battery, which you can still get for $20, is worth every penny as it makes the phone much better. 4G, bigger screen, and great development make the Bolt a great choice. I actually just sold my INC2 because I never really felt it was a good phone for me. I still have my Bolt though and think that would be the way to go.

don't forget that the tbolt has two radios so that even when not on 4G you can have simultaneous voice/data. there are a few benefits still left in the ol' machine!

deff a bolt...

Okay same question here except I'm researching for a friend who may not let me tweak her phone, so what if they're both going to remain stock? Which do you think will run the best for a light user? Calls, txts, emails and occasional surfing/youtube.
I've read about past issues with the Bolt, are they resolved so that the new ones shipping are okay?
I"m trying to get her to get the Rezound but she doesn't want to spend the money and both these phones are free atm. She's coming froma 3-4 year old flip phone that only shows pic in thumbnail size.

No compromise. Make her get the Rezound. I hate to say it, but I'd probably take the Droid Incredible 2 over the Thunderbolt (which is what I have now), but only because there's no LTE in my area yet. The Droid Incredible 2 is a world phone, and can be unlocked to T-Mobile or AT&T (or Simple Mobile, Red Pocket, etc) - not that I would recommend any of those since it will connect to the Edge network and Verizon is the best service in the US, period, but it's a nice option. Other than that, the screen is only .3" smaller and the rest of the specs are essentially identical (unless you count the Thunderbolt's included 32GB MicroSD vs the Droid Incredible 2's 16GB), gets way better battery life, and the Dinc 2 weighs about half as much as the Bolt.

Incredible 2 or Droid Charge ?

I just got a Thunderbolt about 2 weeks ago and am fed up with the poor battery + occasional random reboots(already tried everything and still not satisfied)... so since I'm still under Best Buy Mobile's return policy, I'm thinking of taking it back and getting either the Incredible 2 or the Droid Charge this thursday.
I primarily use my phone for mobile data(internet browsing, downloading) followed by watching videos/games, then lastly actual talking. I'd like something decent where I can watch a movie on it or do some web browsing/music/games a bit before going to bed and not have to worry if the phone's still going to have power when i get up the next morning.
I do like the bigger sceen on the Charge, but the Incredible seems to have a bit more RAM(granted the Incredible will not have LTE capabilities but they won't be offering LTE service in my area for some time anyway).
What do you guys think?

Incredible 2. I don't trust Samsung, plus the Charge just looks ugly. The Incredible 2 (aka Incredible S) is also being released in other countries in a GSM flavor, so updates should be quicker anyways.
I would think the Incredible 2 will overall be a much better experience and I think it's cheaper.
Yeah Incredible 2. If you aren't going to have LTE in your area anytime soon, why bother? they pretty much have the same specs, except for screen size and some other things. Plus the inc 2 is a world phone, so if the need arises, you can take your phone with you around the world. Plus htc sense is a lot better than samsung touchwiz in terms of custom overlays. HTC has a better track record in quality, and software updates. You should be fine with the inc 2. I have the OG inc, and it is an awesome phone. I can imagine the inc 2 will be just as good and better.
Neither one.
Definitely the Incredible 2 that phone looks so awesome. To bad your not with T-Mobile the Sensation is going to be amazing and its going to have 1080p video recording along with Sense 3.0!
Well I read it somewhwhere that you can switch back to a 3g phone from a 4g sim card. I guess once you move your number to a sim that's that. So you might have to get a new number but I'd go with the incredible 2. Awesome home keys that turn with you turn the phone. Gl

I'd go with the Inc 2. I'm a bit surprised VZW granted a Samsung phone the "Droid" moniker.
droid charge! i dont like htc, poor battery life :/
I'd go with the Inc2, I have the Inc and it is simply incredible (pun intended). The battery life on the stock ROM wasn't great but after rooting it I have it setup to give me a good 12-14 hours of uptime and I have the same usage as you except roll in a heavy work schedule that I use my phone for also.
The Droid Charge is $300. Totally not worth it.

Best Buy Mobile is doing it for $249... so when i take the Thunderbolt back tomorrow it would be a straight swap.
i suppose with the Inc 2 being $199 that's an extra $50 back for all-you-can eat sushi! õ_Ô

I mean the upside is it gets free Mobile Hotspot, but then again you get that from rooting...
The question should be Fascinate or Charge... No point in paying $100+ more for a worse screen and GPU.
this post brought to you by Swype
have you tried the radio update found in the developers section? it fixed my issues and you dont have to be rooted to do it.
I would say go with the Inc2 as it looks very nice and I have heard noting but good things about it! Besides, the Charge is going to have an encrypted bootloader and that is going to prevent you from being able to do much as far as rooting and ROMing is concerned.
Kratos
I have the droid charge and i most say it worth every penny. Screen is awesome, battery life 10x better the htc senseless, and I'm not just throwing shhh out there because I own the thunderbolt as well and I pick the charge.

Where are you getting this FUD? No Samsung has an encrypted bootloader. It's the Inc that's locked down: the GSM version has been out for months and still doesn't even have permanent root!

Leaving Verizon for the NS4G, questions I have them.

So after using a D1 since release day I finally got tired of it lack of ram and rom memory and upgraded to a Thunderbolt the day it came out. At first I was thrilled with it. Now.. not so much. Battery life is not so good and developer progress has been sort of slow with lots of hold ups. Not too mention the awful direction Verizon seems to be headed in bloating and locking down their devices. So I've been considering switching to Sprint. When I found out yesterday that turtle giving a $125 credit to new subscribers that port their old number.... well needless to say once I get back from this deployment in June I'm ditching my Thunderbolt and getting my fiancée and myself two NS4G's, the feat news being that it'll only be $40 more a month for both phones than it was for the one thunderbolt!
So anyway.. my questions.
I was blindsided by a few things on the thunderbolt and I'm not looking for a repeat exerience with the new phones.
I know the 4g isn't gorilla glass but is he screen very scratch resistant? I ran my d1 without a protector for 1 1/2 years without a single scratch. The Tbolt screen isn't so durable...
Screen technology... how many different kind of screens are there for the NS? which one(s) does the NS4G have?
Car mounts? I have bought one for each of my phones... I love them. Are there any OEM ones or really good ones for the NS4G?
Reviews indicate that battery life is pretty good? Does user experience back this up?
Pound for pound would you rather have the NS4G or the Thunderbolt? Also Sprint has 4g where I work and live... VZW not so much.
Ty in advance to any helpful replies or links. I've been sifting for info and haven't much specifically about the 4g and I apologize for all the questions. Just feel like I got burned one the thunderbolt and do t want to repeat that experience.
This isn't the answer to one of your questions, but be warned that Sprint's 3G coverage has degraded lately (they lost a roaming contract) and 4G isn't in all cities yet. Heck it isn't even in all major cities yet.
I love my ns4g. Came from an evo. sprint service isnt as good as the big v, but they have chepper plans. 4g is still a battery killer. but i get is light years above the evo and TB (my girl has one)
i always use zagg screan protectors so cant help you there
Even on 3g only the TB battery life sucks... and the notification light is so useless you might as well not even have one so getting a phone without one won't be so hard.
The only thing I know that is going to suck is soon the Nexus 3 will be out. I guess I just have to ensure I set enough money back to buy it at full price when it does Gonna keep digging thru the forum trying to figure stuff out on this phone in the meantime.
Do you highly recommend the ZAGG products? and how easy are they to install and not **** it up?
I actually sold my Thunderbolt and ditched Verizon for the NS4G. I have zero regrets. Yes, coverage(service) is not as good, although acceptable. The radio on the 4G is standard Samsung, meaning it doesnt get as good a signal as the HTC or MOTO devices(this is a topic of debate, some say its the AOSP that causes it, I disagree).Ive had a screen protector on it since I pulled it out of the box, so cant answer ya there. Battery life hasnt been great for me, I am rooted though and running a custom kernel, not oc'd though. My Bolt got a little better battery life. The NS4G is a very good fit in the hand, I felt the Bolt was just a tad to much in the hand, although I loved the screen.
Overall, the Pro's outweigh the Con's. If you get the NS4G, I doubt you will regret it. The Bolt is a great idea, poorly executed and rushed though. I found it buggy and a little overhyped pre-release.
This is just my 2 cents.

According to sprints coverage made they have good 4g signal where I live and work... I'm just so sick and tired of waiting for android goodness too "trickle down" to me via a dev who has a life/job/kids. Nothing wrong with that and I love everything the community does but I can't take not getting the stuff that makes android cool without having to jump thru a million hoops.
Hopefully the service won't be too bad, and hey! If enough of us leave VZW's oppressive ways Sprint is bound to get better.. right?

so would this explain why even though I'm getting full bars 3g, it's so god dang slow?? sprint told me there were tower issues in my area and techs would look at it. but if the lost roaming contract is the cause of this, then i'm just gonna jump ship stats.
to the op, i came from an EVO to the dell streak. i actually missed the smaller screen bc i got tired of holding those big phones. the biggest advantage imo is that the nexus s has a perfect screen size for viewing and holding. feels great in the hand as the curves and the lighter weight allows your hand to better wrap around and grip the phone without fatigue or cramping.
most importantly, go for whatever service is best for you. sounds like sprint is a no-brainer. unfortunately in my area, sprint 4g is non-existant and 3g has seemingly gone down the hole.
I'll play on this. Coming from a evo, epic, g2, iphone 4, now back to sprint and got the NS4G. I finally feel like i have a phone that i dont "FEEL" The need to sell to get something better at this moment. Mainly because its a full google phone. No middle man, no waiting, and once more devs hop on this phone, your going to love it! Far as scratching i didnt even want to test it out i cop the full body zagg ASAP so i cant help you there. In all honestly the evo has messed me up about these other htc copies that are coming on other carriers. All may have better specs in some areas, but i still feel like its a evo copy cat IMO. Nothing to make me switch carriers for, or be like "Yea that's better than my evo" But if the service is good in your area and it doesnt gets on your nerves, then welcome to the nexus s family!
I had the Thunderbolt and am now using a Nexus S 4G.
I liked the Thunderbolt a lot. I have very good LTE coverage so speeds were blazing fast. The battery wasn't so good. I was using the extended battery and was getting about 20 hours of usage.
The phone was too big and heavy though, so when the Nexus S 4G came out I switched and am glad I did!
The form factor of the Nexus is a lot better. Battery is decent, got 10 hours today with 3 hours of screen time, and with 4G on all day.
I love the SAMOLED, mainly because of the blacks. I have a black theme on my phone and it looks amazing!
Downside is that the Nexus has less RAM. It has 512MB but it seems that only 350MB is accessible by apps. I have noticed some lag on it VS the Thunderbolt with 768MB of RAM.
I'm glad I made the switch. Gingerbread is awesome, and so is the google talk video chat.
For the car mount, check out the Kensington K39256US. It is made for the iPhone but works great with the Nexus S. It's cheap on amazon.
4G brute
Got a scratch on the screen and I'm really careful with my phones. Always in a dedicated pocket, maybe caught on a button while going in? Still, never scratched the front of my phone before. Hopefully not a sign, lets see what else happens within 30 days, then back to Best Buy!
Also, zagg is cool, but the price is high and the texture sucks. I use skinomi. Similar material, no orange peel, and only $16 shipped after a 25% coupon online. Its actually pretty simple to install given u follow directions and are patient with it.

hey in case you were planning on the ns4g soon, wirefly has a deal where its $99 on new contract, no activation/shipping charges, and no taxes. Thats $99 OTD, paying what the TMo guys are paying for theirs now on contract
I was thinking about picking up an at&t ns bc my sprint service is kinda slow here, but for $99, i'll stick with it. actually just ordered mine, and gonna take my current ns4g back to best buy where i payed $263 OTD...savings of $163
To the OP.. I would SERIOUSLY think of two things
Check your coverage.. Sprints coverage has been dramatically sliced recently: http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/281992#281992
#2... You know those 3G speeds you got on Verizon? Sprint calls that 4G.. 3G on Sprint is annoying to say the least since these coverage loses.

[Q] Is The Infuse Worth It?

So I have a Captivate and was thinking about upgrading to the Infuse. Is it worth getting? I know it has a better camera and a larger screen, but reviews say that the screen PPI is less than the Captivate and the processor isn't dual core. Just 200mhz faster. So I'm at a crossroads... Keep my Cappy or upgrade?
I personally think it is a great device. i can say one of the best i have own. People make such a big fuzz about screens i honestly done get it. it doenst have one of those cheap phone screens, so im set. i can read my text, videos look good. so im good. its a phone not a computer.
its good phone, it works and functions as it should. so im content. this is my first samsung phone. and im happy. its a great little big device
My first android and im in love. I would recommend the infuse. Unless if ur in the battle between the infuse and sgsII. I still love my infuse though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I'd say totally worth it, had a captivate running gingerbread and loved it but this blows it away, far better screen, camera(also front facing), gps rocks, love downloading movies from pirate bay straight from my phone and watching them on the big screen with an hdmi. It's really fast, great roms so far and it'll get gb roms really soon... I bought mine for 200 and right now it's only 50 at target! The only downside is the sgs2 will be released next month... Either way both are huge upgrades from the already awesome captivate!

Im always streaming movies for free off of a website. Looks sooo great on this screen.

I have the inspire and the infuse, and i really like the infuse better. Its a very snappy phone. The battery life is way better on the infuse, its lighter and the screen is better than the inspire. Now with that said, compared to the Craptivate which was my first android phone the infuse is 100 times better. I have a feeling when we get gingerbread its going to be a great device.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
I don't think it's worth it, the specs aren't all that different. (400mhz bump in clock speed, slightly better camera, slightly better screen). I'd wait till August for the S2 at the very least.
I mean, I do love my Infuse.. But let's be realistic.

It all depends, if the main thing you do with the phone is talk and play a couple songs then its not worth it.
But if you do a lot of other stuff with the phone and have an extra $200 bucks to shell out like I did, you can buy a new or near new one on eBay for under $450 and you can sell your captivate for at least $225 if its in good shape and complete. So its not as if you were to shell out $450.
I sold my Captivate for $250 on eBay in less than 2 days about 3 weeks ago.
There is a big difference between Captivate and Infuse.
Since I take a lot of pictures the main thing which comes to mind is the fact that the Infuse has a LED flash, the flash is nothing like a professional strobe BUT without the LED flash, as I am certain you know by now that you can forget about taking decent pictures indoors or outdoors at night.
With the LED flash I get very decent pictures anywhere and anytime as long as the subject(s) is not much further than 7 feet or so from where I stand.
Plus the Infuse also has a front facing camera which is great for video chat using wifi and or 3G. Not to forget that the camera is much better being its 8Megapixels.
And yes the Infuse is not double the speed of the Captivate, but the 20% increase which it does have is nothing to sneeze at either. It is noticably faster. The speed difference is most noticable when playing action games and when you surf the web.
Perhaps 4G is in your future? if it is, the Infuse has that too.
Plus you can record and watch 720p videos then connect the phone to big screen tv using the mini hdmi adaptor which comes with the phone.
All in all its well worth the couple hundred bucks difference.
If you do plan to buy one, I would suggest you do it as soon as you can because the longer you wait the less money you will be able to sell the Captivate for on eBay or anywhere else.
I wanted to write about the big 4.5 inch SCREEN last, that in my mind is such a huge difference that if everything else was the same on both phones and the only difference was the screen size I would have still purchased the Infuse..
A half inch does not sound like much at all, but when you consider something so small to start with as a 4 inch screen and then you add a half inch to that, it makes the Infuse screen approx 20% larger.
Not only is the screen larger, but it uses a much newer Super Amoled Plus screen technology which really rivals the iPhone screen as far as resolution goes, its way better than the Captivate. Infuse is much better on the eyes for people who spend a lot of time using all the features of the phone.
Well thats about it........... That's my review and comparison between Captivate and the Infuse phones.
Good luck!
Infuse it is
Thank you guys for your opinions! Putting up the Cappy up for sale now. And if you know anyone who wants to buy one, well you know I'm selling!

Best Buy will not price match. I tried yesterday
Walmart price matches. If they say that they can't, then they are lying or don't know anything.

I also upgraded from the Cappy, And I'm completely lovin' the Infuse. Even tho the SGSII is releasing, I'm probably gonna stick to this bad boy. (Maybe). But still Cappy or Infuse both are great phones, Infuse just knocks the captivate out with more upgraded features. Its like BumbleBee in transformers, The old Camaro, the to the new camaro.

I have had or used several phones lately:
BlackBerry (Sets the Standard, but I don't see BB keeping up with the trend)
HTC Tilt 2 (The best speakers),
Moto Razor (Still going strong after 5 years) Wife loves it
Samsung Blackjack 3 (wore the paint off the keyboard)
Moto Atrix (Fast phone and very nice)
HTC Inspire (just keeps getting better)
Infuse (The best screen out there)
My favorite of all is the Infuse, except it doesn't make Chai Latte' with a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.
There are hundreds of phones out there to choose from for hundreds of different needs, likes and dislikes.
There are a lot of critics over cell phones, but any of the top brands and top models are going to be just right for someone. Manufactures are cranking out new models faster than the first recharge. The Infuse I have is an engineering marvel. You just can't beat Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Palm, BB, LG, Nokia, Apple, etc.
I still have an old Qualcomm from around 1995. I keep it as a reminder of how far phones have come in just a few years.
The Infuse is a top-of-the-line SmartPhone. The only complaint I have about it is: No External LED notification lights.
The hottest phone I'm hearing about and reading about is the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G

nothing wrong with the ol cappy, nor the infuse. hell verizon customers need to make a choice, tegra2 or lte. all the lte phones have single core 1ghz processors. all the dual core phones are 3g. they had to either drop or delay the bionic due to heat issues. instead they released a 3g droid x2 with the tegra chipset.
id rather have a nice thin samsung than all that stuff they have on verizon, and i can do without the sgs2 for now. ill get next years varient though im sure. i cant keep a phone for 2 years anymore. i have an obsession.

At least I know I'm not alone anymore
For some reason I always feel the need to upgrade my phone every 6mo or so. Right now have the iPhone so it makes it easier to stay with 1 phone for a full year. Android moves so quick that I'm always trying to find that perfect phone that does everything imaginable for me.
I sell mobile phones for a living and every time I unbox an Infuse and fire it up I'm blown away. I prefer Samsung phones, had the Vibrant and Nexus S. Currently I have a G2x and I couldn't be more disappointed. I'm so close to switching over to the Infuse....

The Infuse is my first Android. I switched over from an iPhone 3G. And oh my goodness what an upgrade it was. I can never go back to an iPhone with it's baby-sized screen. The Infuse is one of my best purchases ever and I have not looked back since. I thought I could never live without my iPhone. Then came my Infuse and 2 days later, I sold my iPhone with no regrets at all. Go with the Infuse. It is amazing. And Netflix just released for it, making it even sweeter.

It depends on you want. There is not nearly the amount of roms to choose from as there is for the DInc, but the ones we do have are great. If I had an upgrade, and was in your situation, I'd wait for the SGS2 or HTC Vigor. The Charge is a great phone but I wouldn't use an upgrade on it considering what is coming in the near future. Just my opinion though.
I did this in a roundabout way in that I used the Incredible for a year before getting my Charge, but I didn't use an upgrade (one of my kids had the Fascinate, but since he doesn't live in a 4G coverage area, I replaced his Fascinate with my Incredible and appropriated the Charge). I can say that I'm much happier with the phone having gotten it for free than I would be if I had paid for it, but overall quite pleased.
The Charge has has better:
-Battery life (by around 40%)
-Screen (I had both the SLCD and OLED DIncs- SAMOLED+ blows both away)
-Usability (screen size is much better for typing accuracy)
-Multimedia experience- SGX540 trounces the rather dated Adreno200
-Audio quality- especially with Voodoo Sound
-Bootloader design- ODIN mode is great for recovering from ****ups
Things that really don't impact my opinion
-4G is incredible in theory- in practice, Google Music and Netflix could both stream just fine over good old EV-DO RevA, and for anything else I need to download I have home wifi and 25Mbit Comcast Xfinity, so it's still sort of unnecessary. It is cool to be able to say my phone has a faster broadband connection than my home.... I'm regularly seeing 30mbit down/6 up. I'm not using it as a hotspot as I don't feel like either shelling out or risking my service, and I will say that I'm using 3-4x the data on LTE than I did over 3G, with better battery life as previously mentioned.
-Overall usability- the Hummingbird is a tad quicker than the Snapdragon, but overall I always found the DInc to be a quite responsive phone- no problems with either
-Call quality- though the Charge has a dual mic setup, they both sound the same on my end. Hard to find fault with Verizon.
Things that I still have to hand to the Incredible
-I have the Charge in an Otterbox Commuter to protect its incredibly vulnerable back shell. While this gives it a great solid feel in the hand, it also makes it a bit on the difficult side to slide in and out of pockets. The DInc was a very convenient size.
-ROM selection is way better for the DInc- though, let's be honest, I didn't care about anything else once CM7 for DInc was out. Here's hoping it hits the Charge soon.
Final thoughts- rumor has it the Bionic could be out within a week, but even if that's premature it's certainly not more than a month away. The Galaxy S2 and HTC Vigor are also both right around the corner. The Charge is about to be replaced as a flagship model. My approval of it is tempered by the fact that I got it for free. You may want to hold off a bit.
I came from the Droid incredible as well and echo the posts above. The charge is an upgrade but at this point just wait for gs2, vigor, or nexus.

I came from the Dinc which I treasured. The dev community was awesome for the Dinc but I love eclipse.
Not sure why you would wait for the sgs2, it may not have 4G.
And the Bionic is just a bigger droid 3 with 4G. Of course to each his own, and I personally saw the samoled+ and just had to have it. I could have waited for the bionic or sgs2 but why? Whatever phone you get, im sure you will love. Afterall, they all do just about the same thing.

I upgraded from the Dinc a couple of months ago and I'm semi happy with my upgrade. The 2 main reasons to upgrade to this phone are the screen and 4G. I guess it depends how important those two things are to you. All the phones coming out in the next couple of months will probably have those two things AND have upgraded processors, RAM, etc. So if I were in your shoes, I would wait a couple of months to see what else is coming out.
I came from the Incredible and am in love with mCharge. Has the hardkey buttons and 4g. Plus the screen it was everything I wanted. Before I got the Charge I was considering waiting on the Bionic but I personally am happy with the choice I made.

I came from the Incredible as well, and I echo everything this guy said. Although I did pay for the phone instead of free (lucky guy lol) I feel like it was worth it. I still use my Incredible (deactivated, but still works on wifi) just for random games and testing out custom roms because we all know the Inc has some great developers. Charge development is looking great too though and I can't wait to see the likes of CM7, MIUI, etc on this phone. It's not perfect, but if you convert from RFS to EXT4 it's really close.

I echo all the "good" comments as I came from the DINC a month or so ago. The only thing I miss is the LED that the "DINC used for letting you know it's charging. The Charge experience is a little different than the HTC experience but it just lets you know what else is out there.
I would hold out for the Bionic. I upgraded from Dinc to Charge because Verizon was changing their unlimited tier plans and I was afraid of missing the boat so I used my upgrade to lock myself in. The Charge was the best at the time but if you can wait until the Bionic comes out 9/8-ish I would. Dual core, 4G, 4.3 inch screen plus the ability to use the Motorola dock/laptop thingy (if you're interested) is a def plus. I can't remember RAM and storage specs but I think they beat the Charge as well.
One thing I did notice coming from Dinc to Charge was the snappiness of the ROMs. Once lagfix was enabled though it was pretty hard to distinguish the difference.

You do realize if you were already on an unlimited data plan, you were locked in?
Anyway to the OP. I came from the Fascinate to the Charge. I got in on the free exchange. The Charge is a great phone. I would say it's a Fascinate 2. I don't think I would have used (wasted) an upgrade on this phone. I think it's best to see what the Bionic, Vigor, SGS2 & iPhone 5 bring to the table. This is especially true when you consider Verizon did away with 1 year contracts.
On a side note, my daughter has a Dinc. She absolutely refuses to upgrade her phone. She says it's simply "Incredible". Lol.

Should I buy a charge until?

I can get a used charge for 80 bucks. I have a DINC2, my contract is up in 2 months, and 4g just hit where I live.
What does everyone think about the phone? I had a fascinate which was good for the most part, but it did have its issues and I was finally swapped out for the DINC2.
I love the DINC2, but would like to enjoy some 4g.
Ultimately, I want to wait until Verizon gets the HTC One X, or something similar in performance.
thoughts?

I don't think so, Screen is better, camara is better, with FP1 eclipse 2.0, the charge is super smooth, no lag, fast or even faster, and the 4G.... This alone put the charge in a different level.

This. No Verizon 3g phones besides iPhone 4 (iOS), Droid 3 (dual core + QWERTY), and HTC Rhyme (special features) are comparable to this one except for battery life.
first of all, verizon is not getting the htc one x. it uses a tegra 3 processor which is not compatible with lte. second, i wouldn't say this phone is an upgrade from the dinc2.
4g and having a large vivid super amoled+ screen is great but other than that, everything else about the dinc2 is better than the charge. we have little ram, a relatively slow processor (compared to what you have), and no usabled AOSP roms (at the moment), and no official ics at least for a year.
dont get me wrong, i love my charge but sometimes it really really pisses me off with a crappy specs.

Do you want to buy a super laptop with dial up modem?
re
im in the same boat.. i had the incredible from 2 years ago.. and was waiting on the new q2-q3 phones to come out.
I got a charge brand new for $100 off craigslist/met at a verizon store to verify.
Now i have a pretty solid 4g phone that will get me by until the new quad core phones come out.
The only thing that bugs me on this phone is that its not the fastest when loading huge web pages over wifi or 4g.. and that it has a slightly hard time with newer games like 6guns and dungeon defenders that require alot of system resources, ie ram and cpu/gpu. Plus theres the crazy slippery back of the phone that almost makes it jump out of your hands if they are the slightest bit damp.
but other than that, for $150 or under its an awesome phone.. plus you should be able to sell it for close to what you paid for it on craigslist after you get your new phone.
so its a WIN WIN for the winninig.
Phones are mostly a personal preference. I prefer the display and the DAC in the Charge. Most of the Charge's issues seemingly can be resolved with software and some patience. The radios do work pretty well if service is decent. Compared to my feature phone, the Charge radios perform much better all around.
The Charge is not perfect, but once you get used to the display, other devices really are lacking. The GSII would be nice unless you wanted the Charge's DAC.
Personally, I'm biding my time for the next insane superphone. The GS3 is so far the most likely candidate, but time will time.
Personally, I would get the $80 dollar Charge, which is nice for an contract-free 4G device. It is always nice to have an extra phone in case of loss, damage, hook up a buddy, etc.
The us version of the HTC one x doesn't have a Tegra 3 it has a snapdragon s4 (dual core) and it is probably only gsm...
