Is there a guide to getting back to GB from the ICS roms?
I would like to try ICS, but want a way to get back!
I just did a revert back to GB.
Just superwipe and install the GB rom
Worked just fine on Coredroid. Should work on others. Did not change and firmware
Does the 3.24 firmware work with GB then?

I read somewhere, that it does not....thats why i myself have not upgraded the FW

It does not, it will cause bootloops. To flash a gingerbread ROM, first transfer the 3.12 firmware and ROM to your SD-card. Then reboot directly into recovery and flash the room, then reboot into the bootloader and flash the firmware.
also not that for most current ics roms you need the current 3.24 firmware so if you want gb you just have to downgrade your firmward i believe
I was on the latest ARHD and whatever FW that required and just wiped and installed Coredroid 3.2
The 3.12... firmware works with both ICS and GB roms. I switch between Nandroid backups of both with this firmware, because I have found that while ICS roms have made great strides they still have issues (freezes, reboots), while GB is problem free.

did you rename the backup? if so take out whatever spaces you have in there. that will cause the mismatch

Hi..just wanted some help with clarification on a few things. I upgraded the firmware to the one needed to install the ICS ROMs, but have reverted back to my original stock ROM using a NAND restore.
However, I noticed the radio and the HBOOT is still with the newer firmware one. So does NAND restore not restore them to the original? (the NAND was done before upgraded to the newer firmware).
Also, if I want to go back to the previous radio that was already on the phone. How can I do that? Do I use the RUU file? Will that restore everything back? And will I lose root?
Thanks for your help.

Why do you want previous FW, if current one most likely work perfectly?
Nandroid only restores/backsup /system, /cache, /data, /boot (kernel), and /recovery. It doesn't touch radio, boot, or any other firmware stuff.

I am not sure if it's the problem with it, but it seems the battery is draining very fast after I upgraded to this new firmware for the ICS and not back on gingerbread. That's why I want to restore a previous radio etc..
Actually, I mainly want the firmware that was released for the lastest gingerbread (i.e. t-mobile update in Dec). I had flashed the firmware before...after that flashed the other one for the ICS. Can I just reflashed the previous version of it?
Does RUU restore the radio back? and does it keep root?

RUU restores everything back, and i mean everything. And root, it'll be gone, but easy to gain again. You might need to superCID to be able to downgrade hboot (to flash earlier version which is in the latest t-mobile ruu)

Oh I see..so RUU files brings restores back to original.
I have super CID and everything root etc.. how about just flashing the PMG file that was for the update back in Dec for TMOUS? I just want to see getting rid of this new radio will make a difference.
Hello there everyone! I was just beginning to warm up to the idea of rooting when I discovered that it is currently impossible to gain true S-Off due to a patch. Was this patch part of the ICS update? Or was it released during the GB era? I remember having a OTA show up earlier that was not ICS (A few months ago). Am I stuck now?
Software number: 1.50.531.1
Completely stock.
Thank you guys.

Well for soff you need to be atleast 1.18 HBOOT...and HBOOT update was being done since gb times itself(happened somewhere middle)...so people who got HBOOT greater than 1.18 you are out of luck...
For you to see what HBOOT you got...you need to go to bootloader ..power off your phone..remove battery ...then put it back ...press power+volume down ....it'll open HBOOT screen...there your HBOOT version will be there..
Also the firmware number will/can not precisely give you hboot version...I mean ppl has to remember what firmware got which hboot

It stated that I had 1.18.0000
So I'm able to root with full S-Off?

you just want to root the device?
or want to update your firmware to 3.32 and want to install ICS custom roms?
I will want to root and change to an ICS ROM, such as CM9 or Hypersensation.
1. Unlock your bootloader at www.htcdev.com
2. ???
3. Profit.

first you need to setup your mobile ready for ICS ...to install ICS custom ROMS
follow everything step by step from this guide ...until you got s-off,supercid,and custom recovery installed( recommend 4EXT rather than CWM for sutom recovery)
then for ICS ...you require latest firmware
follow this guide...until flashing firmware..
once the above steps are done you can't boot into your GB rom...so by this time..get your ROM downloaded and inside your sdcard
then you can flash the ICS ROM form recovery...(you can use above guide as reference for flashing ROMS too)
Man, thank you so much for the help! Are there any incompatibilities between GB and ICS? (Like if I were to back up my files with Titanium, will they restore onto an ICS ROM?)
Thanks!

restoring data of apps (GB rom) from titanium backup...might have some glitches (because app are also modified for ICS compatibility)..try at your own risk...but people recommend to not to do this especially when moving from GB to ICS
but dont ever restore system data when moving from GB to ICS ...also when changing roms...it will completely mess up your rom
So I have to start from scratch? And what is the point of titanium backup if I can't actually restore anything?
Thanks.

look i haven't explored TB that much (i own the premium app too)
afaik we only require a backup of sms's ,contacts (if sync is there no need for this too),call logs, and apps + its data
for sms + contacts + call logs -> i use super backup
and apps will be taken care of once you sync up with google
and apps data and missing apps i use TB.
So what would be system data?

No. Don't teach people the wrong information. HTCDev does NOT unlock your phone completely. I'm not sure why people even LIKE HTCDev. Maybe they think it is the "Official" way or something...
I mean, what kind of data is system data? Screen brightness?
I flashed Jelly Bean unofficial CM10. For some reason, I feel it is slow in response, and I want to go back to Gingerbread. When I flash GB ROM (Zeus 6), It just boot loops.
Am I missing something? Or Do I have to go to ODIN stock before flashing GB?
Any help
You can try flashing a gb kernel in cwm.
Wipes and Format the usual
Go to voodoo, make sure voodoo conversion and lagfix is on.
Reboot into cwm
Reflash gb rom

the kernel can be flashed in recovery or in download mode.

You have to Odin or heimdal back...you need something with a working pit...problem is there is no conversion for going back through any cwm zips...so Odin or heimdal is the only way back
Cm10 is in mtd format...no gingerbread or ics Rom is in mtd format

yup, aosp re-purposes some samsung partitions. the needed data for touchwiz roms is gone. need a full pit flash with preferably all the partitions, might have to take param.ifs, cache, and/or dbdata from a froyo rom. can't remember atm what came in the gb updates but it wasn't everything.

I was hoping that a gb kernel flash (entropy or zen + others) will auto voodoo a non voodoo file system. The first flash will convert the file system. The second flash will install the firmware.
Sort of like a reverse cm7, cm9 or miui that uses mtd.
as for the successful return from cm10, when in doubt, odin or heimdall back to stock with a repartition should get you back to the starting point.

It's not that aosp uses partions differntly..its that the new jb is in mtd which is A whole new file system format with different partions completely...with any ics or older jb Rom i could go back to gb with one simple flash
I think what you meant was this: mtd uses partions differently requiring a full pit flash to go back

I've also become a big fan of qkster's UCLB3 Heimdall 1-click when it comes time to revert from 4.x.x to 2.3.x. I Heimdall back to stock UCLB3, then Heimdall Zen's A16 OC kernel/CWM combo, and finally boot into CWM Red and restore whatever compatible GB backup I want. I've long since gotten into the habit of keeping several backups stored on internal memory. I got sick of noobing it up and ending up with bootloops. This method's been good to me so far, and I'm sticking with it.
I have h-boot 1.14 withe twrp recovery, I backed up my phone with a previous rom i had and my question is would I have to install the image again after i restore the phone or should the phone restore without any problems.

Most of the time yes you will have to install the boot .img manually coming from a different base or Rom... But say if you're on viper and your back up is the same base sense Rom you probably wouldn't have to reflash it... But if coming from cm10 or anything else yes

Is it necessary to reflash rom before restore or can you just fastboot flash boot.IMG and just restore backup?

I believe you have to flash boot. IMG and than restore according to the comments up there
I just wish we had to option to downgrade the software/hboot without going thru all those steps listed, I remeber i had the htc inspire and you will be able to downgrade hboot by choosing a downgraded version of Ruuu files.

The infuse was release several yrs ago. It started with froyo 2.2. The GB was release later 2.3.
PIT files is the map for the stock android system by samsung. There are no pit beyond 2.2 or 2.3.
Anything later is cm9, cm10 and cm11 - these run on different file system.
if you want to go from kk to jb, find a jb rom + jb gapp and boot into cwm, wipe data, cache, dalvik and flash.
if something messes up, go back to gb and start over

AFAIK you can't just flash back like that because of file system formats. JB runs on MTD and i don't think that KK does. But i'm trying to restore a 4.3 backup now. Will report back with results. I just tried to flash 4.3 and it gave me a red triangle with a status 7 error which i knew would happen.
[EDIT]
Well i'll be damned. It worked! And coincidentally I acidentally labeled the wrong backup as 4.3. I restored the SGSIV 4.2.2 ROM.
