Fastbooting... - General Questions and Answers

So, I seemed to have soft bricked my Atrix 2. Some of the devs here made gave out the fastboot files, but how exactly do i fastboot? Sorry, if the directions are somewhere it is late and tend to be blind when I am tired.
Thanks.

I don't understand? Did you make a nandroid backup?

Normally hold power button with other buttons (volumes, Home) to boot.
Check user manual for specifics.

So... um yeah after some more extensive reading i figured it out... The guys here are awesome and i just have to find the right thread to find the answer...

That would be cool, and seeing as the eris and the hero are very similar it's probably very possible.
any chance we could get the CyanogenMod team on board for something like this

Instead of having to delete everything on the phone and restore a previous image, it will run the ROM from your sdcard. This should in theory make it load faster. I'm looking at it now. I will let you know.

WOW.... I know I'd love this on my hero... thanks to anyone who wants to work on porting this =]
I will let you know something about this tomorrow. I would not try flashing the recovery for that because the kernel, hardware keys and some other things are different from our phone.

Searched all over the forums. I botched an install of Coredroid using rom manager, and now I can only get the phone to boot into the bootloader. Hard reset didn't work. Can someone please help? when i do recovery the HTC screen comes up then fades to backlit black.

Sounds like it is going into recovery and not Hboot. Remove the battery, Reinstall the battery, press the vol down key and the power until it goes to Hboot.

how do i fix the volume rocker?

sup ppl i come from the evo 3d forums and just bought this phone today. but the volume rocker is bad, so i have to request.
1) how do i fix the volume rocker.
2) and how can i get it to boot so i find out what hboot the phone has so i can root this bad boy.
thanks in advance
1) what's wrong with the volume rocker? did you buy it second hand? If not why not return it and get it replaced if its broken?
2) to boot into boatloader is volume down plus power button, but hboot versions don't matter on our phone. Its all rootable currently
The down button doesn't work I need to replace it. I've been watching YouTube videos on how to do this. But still need help on what I need to do. I just bought the phone today second hand for 75 bucks

I cannot tell you the specifics on replacing the button but here is a tool to reboot phone into bootloader. Download. Make sure you have drivers installed from HTC sync. Open folder and press start here. Read the read me, it has the command to reboot into bootloader.
adb reboot
UPDATE. I forgot to mention to enable USB debugging through settings->applications->development
Will try this out asap. Ill be back

Ace hack kit comes with a manual. Open up the folder and click on the "effen manual" and read it entirely. It tells you everything you need to do to make everything work. Make sure your USB drivers are current. Most people have USB issues that can be fixed by merely updating the drivers. It tells you in the manual how to do that as well.

Follow all the prerequisites and read everything down to the last section called FAQs. There is important information throughout the whole thing which attn1 has made this way so that you see the answer to all the questions people ask over and over. I would be going against the wishes of the dev if I told you any more than this. It really is easy though once you soak in all the info. Good luck. You can do it.
Yup reread everything tried downgrading that went bad also. I'll just I've rooted many phones b4 this is the only one giving me trouble ill just sell it.

You should probably stay away from buying damaged used phones. The inspire is incredibley simple to root unless its damaged.

I know you succeeded in rooting your phone, but there is a free app from the market called Quick Boot, which requires root, but allows you to reboot into recovery, bootloader, simply reboot, and power off. It may help you down the road.

No it was that dam code I was using the one on the zip lol I feel mad and dumb at the same time haha. So all I need is a T-Mobile sim card right. Will I have to unroot the phone to set up a T-Mobile account or an at&t account?
Thanks man but does it require the up nd down volume buttons. I'm planning on fixing it maybe next week.

I'm not completely sure if an Att phone will just work on a tmobile network. It would be ideal to activate it on Att or if you already have Att just pop in your sim card. If you are already on tmo, you could pop in your sim in and see if it works. I'm not sure if they need to be unlocked even with custom roms. Does anyone else know the answer to this?
Update: the volume button thing could be an issue if you ever soft brick your phone so you might want to get that fixed asap. It's the only way to fix a softbrick is through hboot.

Won't boot

I'm thinking about buying a G2x for dirt cheap because it's got a software issue and won't boot. I'm wondering if there's a definitive way to reset it. I read there are the hardware keys down and power to hold and it gives the option to reset but what if that doesn't work? Can T Mobile reset it or will I be able to in ADB or is it not worth the small amount of cash?
Thanks,
Josh

Even if the phone isn't rooted it still has a recovery and u can access that by volume down and power.

I bought my G2x off eBay and it wouldn't boot or even charge. Took me two full days to learn how to access recovery and get it to charge enough to get into recovery, THEN get a Rom on it, THEN get it to boot. Huge pain, but it made me learn quick. Oh, how I missed my Droid back then.
Point is, I've never heard of one that couldn't be revived without being physically damaged.

This is exactly why I never use goo manager or ROM manager to flash any thing or download any thing to many times have I read about ppl bricking because of these apps.
Did the same thing to mine, except I was downloading a recovery for another phone. Wasn't going to flash it off course, but GOO did it automatically. Hard bricked my phone just like yours. If it is still under warranty take it to AT&T store. They'll replace it for free. Don't worry, they won't be able to flash it back to stock or get it to boot either. Just play dumb and say you tried to start it up after charging and it just wouldn't turn on. I was in and out with a new skyrocket in less than 20 minutes
