[Q] ICS: How do you remove the onscreen keyboard? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just purchased a keyboard folio case. It works wonderfully but for the life of me I can't figure out how to remove the onscreen keyboard. I have absolutely no need for it and it takes up over half the screen when I'm typing.
I have searched all over the forums and I've googled it. I can't seem to find it anywhere.
I'm running the latest ICS Kang Nightly. I noticed that the EOS rom doesn't have this option either.
Does the stock ICS version have this?
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

It's in Honeycomb and ICS (and the phone versions of Android too, I assume). If you're using a bluetooth (or USB) keyboard, then the on-screen keyboard should no be displayed until you disconnect. I use the Motorola bluetooth keyboard, there is no on-screen keyboard for me unless I disconnect.

How strange. This doesn't work for me. I swear. As soon as I start typing in a text field the regular onscreen keyboard pops up.
Are you using stock ICS?

I did find a temporary solution after doing some more investigation. I searched the market for some keyboard apps to see if there were any out there that perhaps gave you the option.
I ended up finding an app called null keyboard and this seems to do the trick. I basically select it in the Language and Input menu in the Android settings and it disables the on screen keyboard for you while maintaining the ability to use a physical keyboard.
While this does work pretty well, it would be nice to get the stock keyboard to be able to do this so I wouldn't need to switch back and forth.

On my Xoom (stock Wi-Fi ics), when using a Bluetooth keyboard, I can select the keyboard icon in the status bar that displays when selecting a text field and toggle physical keyboard on/off on top of the list of keyboards that shows.

Any way to disable the samsung keyboard using...
I also Purchased the Zagg Folio keyboard for my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 GT-N5110 android 4.2.2 and tried most of those apps like null keyboard and the like to no avail, so I was wondering if there is a method for rooted devices with programs like Xposed Framework to disable Samsung keyboard. thank you

You do realize you've posted to a thread for the Motorola Xoom, not a Samsung device, and the last post before yours was two years ago?
I'd suggest posting in the forum for your device.

App to hide keyboard while using HID Apple Mighty Keyboard

Issue:
I use a BT keyboard and Evernote for taking notes in my lectures. Everything works fine but the on screen keyboard pops up whenever I tap on a word to edit it or add more notes in between.
I want to know if it's possible to make an app that will disable the on screen keyboard from popping up when I'm using a my BT keyboard.
I'm using Cyanogen 6.1 RC1.

Possible? Yes, absolutely.
Does using a BT keyboard require you to select a specific input method? If not, a makeshift way to do it would be to download one of the Miimote apps and select that as your input method, rather than "Android Keyboard" or whatever.
If not, I'm sure someone has or can make an "invisible keyboard" to set as your input method.
Dude I think that will solve my issue. I'll test it out later but I think you hit the nail on the head. I appreciate it.
By the way you don't need to choose an input method with CM6 and Apple keyboard.

[Q] Samsung keyboard not working

I flashed the no-wipe JB release (currently K3) from these boards on my S3. I was initially bugged by the persistent help tips on the lock screen, but eventually followed the suggestion of disabling the help app, so that appears to be gone. My biggest sticking point now is that the default Samsung keyboard does not work for me. When I select that keyboard, any attempts to type by swiping show the line following my finger movement across the keys, but no text appears. I can type by tapping. I do have T9 Trace selected in the keyboard settings. I also have Swype Beta 1.3 installed and working properly, so I'm fine with using that keyboard, but I would like to figure out what settings I'm missing in the default keyboard. I tried uninstalling Swype and re-flashing JB with no improvement. Has anyone else experienced this? DO you need any additional information or have any suggestions?
Thanks

[Q] Can't use alternate soft keyboard - Error message - WITH SCREENSHOT

Ok, I cannot find anything related to my problem, and I CAN`T be the only one with this.
First things first: My name is Lane, long time lurker, first time poster. I have a P-3113 GTab2 7", stock rooted JB 4.1.2, and a IVSO bluetooth keyboard case. Over the last week, I've been trying to find a way to hide the soft keyboard while using the BT keyboard. I started with "Null Keyboard", but all it did was get rid of the keyboard entirely. I still like using the soft keyboard when I need it in a pinch. I don't like having to switch manually. Then I found AnySoftKeyboard, which i freakin' love.
But now i have a problem.
When the default keyboard is set to AnySoft (or any other keyboard for that matter), i can use it and its wonderful features for a total of 5-10 minutes before Android complains and throws up an error message, then switches the default keyboard back to Samsung... I even caught a screenshot of the error just now. You can see AnySoftKeyboard in the screenshot behind the message, but then it switches to the Samsung keyboard.

It is an error i might recognize.. Does it happen with ny other keyboard too??like swift key or ny other that stock??
If you get prob just in AnySoft then its the problem in programming made by the app developer,
if other keyboards crash too then i guess its the problem in your rom.. Did you flash ny thing on your current rom??
Also,
Try using WIFI keyboard if you want no keyboard display while typing from external keyboards via usb
ROM is stock JB, just rooted. Nothing else flashed. This happens with other keyboards, too, like SlideIt, Null, and AnySoft.
As far as I know, this only happens when I have my bluetooth keyboard connected.
It is really not that hard to switch input methods between a BT keyboard and an onscreen keyboard, no app is needed to easily go back and forth between those two. There should be a notification that shows up to easily switch input methods when a text box is tapped.
It looks like the second line says "change BT input method to stock Samsung keyboard", if that's any help.
Attached is the said notification.

No, only when an alternate KB is set as default.

After disconnecting Bluetooth keyboard, onscreen keyboard does not come back.

I paired and connected Bluetooth keyboard...
Works as expected. When in inputting on screen keyboard is not in the way.
However when I disconnect from it, on screen keyboard does not come back.
Only way I can get it back is rebooting device.
No additional keyboard apps installed.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Just noticed this today on my Nexus 7 2013 with 4.4. Definitely an issue with KitKat.

What I did notice recently was, if you go to "Language & Input" and under "KEYBOARD & INPUT METHODS" tap the "Default.." at top, a dialog pops up.
On that dialog you can toggle "Hardware Physical keyboard".
Far from intuitive, but at least you do not need to reboot the device.

Samsung keyboard will not stay turned off under "set input methods"

Like a lot of people, I prefer the Google keyboard over the Samsung one. Annoyingly, an icon appears in the notification bar whenever the Google keyboard is summoned. One way to get rid of this icon is to disable all other keyboards under Language and input -> Default keyboard -> Set up input methods. Unfortunately I've noticed that the Samsung keyboard keeps turning back on all the time. Anyone else observed this behavior? Very annoying.
Yup, same thing here using SwiftKey. Dang Samsung keyboard keeps re-enabling itself making the input notification show up again everytime I'm typing.
Is there a way to fully disable Samsungs keyboard without root?
Verizon Galaxy S6 owner here and I thought I was the only one dealing with this. I use SwiftKey as my primary keyboard. Still haven't found a way myself to fully fix this issue
You can hide the app using debloat by gates junior
I found the solution in another thread. You have to install ADB on your computer and set the phone up for USB debugging, the you can hide the Samsung Keyboard. I'll find the thread and link it here.

Samsung keyboard keeps coming back after SwiftKey has been set as default keyboard
I know this is an old thread but I just got my Samsung Galaxy and was having the same problem.
The way I solved it was root my phone, which I would have done anyway, install SwiftKey, and System App Mover, and use System App Mover to move Samsung keyboard to a user app, because I didn't really want to delete it, then I moved SwiftKey to a system app, but the Samsung keyboard kept sending notifications "Samsung keyboard has stopped" and I couldn't stop it from doing that, so I just deleted Samsung keyboard, so now SwiftKey is the default keyboard, haven't had the problem since.
Sorry for the long paragraph, I suck at writing.
