What is the best feature of ICS do you like the most? - General Questions and Answers

I heard that closing apps from multi-tasking is the best feature asides from being eye-candy. What do you guys like the most with the new Android-OS?

Hard to say. When I mention that I installed an ICS build on my phone, a few of my friends asked about face-unlock...but meh. It's buggy and gimmicky and crap, IMO a bit overrated and over-publicized.
I do love the task management with a long press on the home button. Brilliant! Awesome. But it's also hard to overlook the facelift that the settings menus received. That too is very pretty. Then there's the app drawer. I do also love the fact that I see widgets there, now. Also classy. Swiping notifications is cool, too.
Hard to nail down exactly which feature I like best, but these may be listed in an order relatively close to order of importance to me.

From what I heard, some devices that has front camera does not even have face unlock. IE Xoom. Where did you find the settings for the face unlock? Perhaps, that's why we can't figure it out. LOL

They seemed to apple it up and add a lot of gimmicks rather than worthwhile features this time. If I had to pick, it'd be the hardware accelerated browser. Now they just need to fully hardware accelerate the UI.

Hardware acceleration has been around since 2.1, it just hasn't been, and likely won't be present in the UI.

I beg to differ. It's way more highly optimised on ICS.
For example, the Market for my Note on ICS is silky smooth compared to this laggy garbage on 2.3

The market is not the UI. The only android phone with a hw accelerated UI at present is the gs2.

True, depends on what build you're on, and it is still not available on some devices.
It should be under settings, where you set a pin, passcode, or an unlock gesture.
If it's there, it's easy setup.

Optmization!

I'm loving the default SMS app, and the settings button in the notification bar.
And the fact that hardware acceleration is default.

rules are rules whether you want attention or not. im sure this will come to the evo when source or an ruu leaks.
CM6 already has Landscape homescreen... Just gotta make sure the fancy widget changes to whats above.
If you use launcher pro, the launcher icons rotate too.
CM 6 (stock vanilla froyo) does this. and its better than sence.
Example... The fancy widget needs a better landscape mode
Swyped from my Snappified Evo via XDA App
Just a notion here, but when did everyone start using CM6?

When we see a non_TMobile Vision leak we should be able to obtain Landscape sense by using a few apk's from it.

I am not running the CM due to lack of 4g and camera issues. But I am sure it will be on my rotation soon, right now Fresh has had the least force closes for me.

+1...I prefer vanilla in a lot of areas compared to sense, but I always find myself going back to sense. LauncherPro is getting better though.
Works fine with LauncherPro as well. I have 4G and all that good stuff on a fast, stable ROM. I have not found any Sense widget that doesn't have an equal or superior replacement anyway. They're OK but not very customizable and kinda gaudy/glossy.

TMZBEME,
I took the stock Android camera, so this app has the exact same permissions. GPS is because the stock camera allows you to geotag photos, record audio is a remnant from the video recording, which I could do away with.

Have you seen Android's new official app webpages? You can actually click the install button on the webpage (on any computer!!!) and the app downloads on your phone....amazing....
I have two versions of Big Camera Button which you can obtain using the new web buttons at:

Thanks!!
I removed the logo from all versions of the free app. Now the free app is really usefull
Woo what an innovative app. Lets make a big button and charge $0.99 for it lol.
Well, it was a response to my first app which is quite innovative. Its called Shout n' Snap http://shoutnsnap.com the thing is, its socially awkward sometimes to yell at your phone. Therefore, the natural step is to make a silent version.

TouchWiz 4 Launcher

I wasn't aware if anyone had seen the TouchWiz 4 Launcher for all devices. So here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883
What about the motion features though?
nice find. im not sure if i like the 3d icon backgrounds, but it is cool it doesnt require a modification to the rom to run it.
i dont know if the motion features can be utilized. if im not mistaken the sgs2 has accelerometers, magnetometers, and gyroscopes. the addition of gyroscopes may make it more sensitive to exact positioning and the whole orientation service might be completely different.

Not sure about the motion control. However, when the launcher started for the first time there was an option for motion control. I do not like it so I disabled it.
Also, 3D icons are optional.
I had this in v1.4 of my ROM. Icons kept disappearing on reboot and car dock and hdmi didn't work with it. Does the latest version fix any of these issues?
I would like to re-open this. Anyone use the latest touchwiz 4 launcher and does it have the issues that gtg said, fixed?

Favorite HOX features.

This is a thread to list some cool things you like about the phone. Maybe point out a few things that other people didn't know yet.
For me I would have to say that the keyboard is awesome. Also the fact that it already has a printer option built in. Voice recognition on this phone is awesome. And of course face recognition is great too.

I've been a Swype user since the Nexus One, but I have to say that the Trace feature on the HTC keyboard is impressive. It's noticeably quicker to render words after swyping/tracing. Only downside I've noticed is you can't place the cursor on previous words and choose alternate suggestions. Unless I'm missing an option for this.
Ha. And I though it was an improved swype this whole time
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Interesting comment about the keyboard. I'll be receiving my HOX today but most reviews say the HTC keyboard is ****. Seeing the entire row of arrows on the bottom leads me to agree (but then again, I haven't used it yet). How does it compare to the stock ICS keyboard? I don't like Swype so I'm sure I won't ever use that feature.

About that. I tried using the face detect to lock my screen and at first i thought to myself, man does this work well.
Then for fun I had my dad look at the camera and guess what, the phone unlocked itself for him too. Now I know we look somewhat alike, but not that close.
Long story short, I wouldn't trust that feature..

My favorite feature is definitely the screen! I can't keep my eyes off of it. I do not like the HTC Sense keyboard and for those of you that also do not like it you can go to the Play Store and download the stock ICS keyboard and it works great on the One X. It is much more similar to the iPhone keyboard that I am used to and is spaced further apart than stock sense keyboard. Also, you get more screen room for viewing while texting or writing messages if you use the stock ICS keyboard.

Well they're working on a modified face unlock that requires you to blink so picture would be useless.

I personally hate this feature. A dedicated button? I liked long press home. Now I don't have a quick way to search plus I haven't found a way to assign a long press action to any of them.

Once we have root it should be long press home button for recent apps, multitask button as menu button, and long press multitask for search. I miss voice search lol it was easier on an inspire

From what I can tell, by swiping the recent application does not close the application. I have opened several apps and then hit the home button then the recent applications button and swiped them... then opened up the apps again and they are right back where I left them. I think it only deletes the recent app bookmark and not closes the app itself.

Turning off all animations in Developer Settings should help.
It looks like much of the lag is from animations being choppy.
Wasted 10 precious seconds of my life by reading this
replacing the launcher doesn't take the lag away from switching between apps and unlocking the screen. I still notice the slight lag
