SKY ICS update errors - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hey, i'd post this in the official SKY ICS thread but I don't have enough posts. I updated to sky ics 2.9.2z, just released. Now my camera won't work and when I plug my phone into usb it just malfunctions and won't let me connect it to the computer. It just constantly notifies me that I've plugged in my usb.
Any suggestions? I've tried reflashing the update, the latest camera hack zip and nothing fixed it. I will try flashing an older version later.

Fixed it. Sort of.
The camera app worked when I switched to TW launcher, ICS launcher wouldn't let it load up. The USB problem was my computer, not the phone, I restarted my PC and that fixed it.

*HELP*!! Soft-Bricked i896 Captivate after Rogers 2.2 update

I need help from you guys. I have a Rogers i896 Captivate.
Today 2.2 was made available as an update on Kies, and silly me, believing that it would work properly, decided to do the update.
Just so you know, I have completely stock 2.1 on my phone, unrooted, nothing.
I plugged it in, backed up my SD card, backed up my contacts, then started downloading the update.
It then said it couldn't get into download mode, saying to try again later. I do, same result.
i try booting the phone into download mode, and Kies starts trying to connect to my phone. After a while, my phone screen turned a very light blue, and Kies told me the phone was unresponsive, and to restart the phone. I do, and voila. I get the magical connecting icon. I can't find a picture, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. The icon of a phone connecting to a PC, but there's a yellow exclamation mark.
This happens every time I press the power button, or if I try and enter recovery mode.
I can however enter download mode. I just don't know what to do with it. I haven't used Odin, and don't want to risk further damage.
More than anything, I just want a phone. At this point, I'm willing to use a non-stock ROM, although I'd prefer a Rogers ROM mostly, as the GPS actually seems to work sorta.
If anybody could walk me through the process, or link me to something that can help me do this.
*edit*
Wait, hold the phone.
I tried it one last time, and this time I got a popup in Kies saying my last upgrade attempt failed and my device may be unusable. click here to restore the original firmware. Currently doing that, we'll see how it goes. *crosses fingers*
Just put the phone in download mode then click on the update firmware button in kies.
It will probably say it has to restore the firmware that's fine just click through and it should finish and you'll be on 2.2 pm me if you have more problems

Nevermind all. Panicpost. I've got it figured out. Crisis averted.
Mods, feel free to lock/delete/move if you like.
However, for those who might have the same problem, if you can get into download mode, while in Kies, click firmware update, then at the bottom it will tell you you can restore the original firmware. I did that and the problem was fixed.
Now I'm going to be an idiot and try the 2.2 again
Actually, I just noticed. After "bricking", and restoring the firmware, I now have 2.2
Better yet, none of my apps or anything are gone! It just reset my homepages, Widgets and shortcuts are missing, but everything else is good.
whatever haha.
Actually if your in Canada the update has been out for a week now, but glad you have your phone working. I started the 2.2 thread and its mentioned in that thread how to get the 2.2 through Kies without issue.

Tried to update to GB Fail

I decided to try to update to GB because my G2X rebooted while on the charger, clock night mode turns off and the screen locks, and wifi is ok but resets sometimes. My phone is stock 2.2 with stock recovery but rooted.
I turned off all programs on my Windows 7 32 bit laptop, turned off anti virus and turned off Windows firewall. The updater ran ok, checked the phone environment and downloaded the update. Then at 4% when the phone is supposed to download into software update mode, it just sat there staying in Android. After the update failed and it told me to remove the cable and remove battery, etc., I just shutdown the phone, did a battery pull and turned the phone back on. I then canceled the update.
My phone booted back into Android no problem. I tried to boot into recovery using Quickboot but that just rebooted the phone back into Android. My questions are as follows:
1. Did the update change anything on the phone or did it fail before attempting to change anything?
2. Why did it fail to boot into software update mode? Do I need to try another USB port or another computer?
3. Should I use the alternate method on a Windows XP machine that people use when their phone is soft bricked?
4. Should I just install CWM recovery and use the pre-rooted zip of GB with the old baseband?
5. Or should I just forego the update for now and see if another update is released?
Try reinstalling everything, and restarting your computer. It worked just fine on Windows 7 Ultimate x86, and x64.
My update went the same way but everytime I retried it got a little further so I just retried it over and over till I hit 100 percent

I just tried to run the LG update program on my XP machine but I got a runtime error (see attached). Anybody know what this means and how to fix it?
Does anyone know why it just sits there on 4% and never boots into the software update mode? Can I just run it and then when it fails manually boot into software update mode? Or is that risking a brick?

Finally got it updated
Used Windows 7 32bit.
The update progressed very scarily.
I downloaded the drivers and reinstalled them directly from the update program. I then used a different USB port then my previous attempt, unplugged all other USB devices, and shutdown everything running on the computer I could including Avast andti-virus and the Windows Firewall. This time when I plugged the G2X into my computer a lot more devices installed than last time (first time only 2 devices were installed, this time about 8 to 10).
During the first download of the firmware I canceled it because I realized I left the micro sd card in the phone and the instructions on the website say to remove the card. Then I also decided to unroot the phone and remove all programs that require root access. Since the phone would be unrooted after an update I decided I didn't want superuser in the system if I couldn't use it, and after the update I would be unable to remove it since the phone would not be rooted.
Then I ran the program again and this time the phone booted into software update mode. It started pushing the update to the phone and at 5% the phone disconnects from the computer and reconnects (does this three times during the update) but the software doesn't see the phone and tells me to unplug the USB cable, remove the battery, reinsert the battery and turn the phone back on. But I heard the computer reconnect to the phone so I decided I would just remove the cable and reinsert it. This worked and the update started over again. This time it went past 5% and then reset the phone connection again at 46%. It then slowly completed the update resetting one more time at 76% and when it reconnected it went back to 75% but then progressed to 100% and rebooted the phone.
It now has an updated baseband and Gingerbread 2.3.3. I am leaving it unrooted for now and just use it stock.

I do! It's installing one of the THREE usb drivers that it installs over the course of the upgrade. Mine got stuck at 4% for just a second (at which point I about **** my pants), but then I saw a Win7 notification pop up that it had just installed a USB driver, and then it proceeded to do the update.
So maybe the failure mode is the LG updater not being able to install a USB driver?

Is there any significant reason to update to get the newest baseband and then flash CM7? Or is there no benefit from the new baseband?

July 15, 2011 baseband has more reliable wifi and much better GPS lock. After the scares of getting mine updated finally, my G2X has had no issues in the 30+ hours since the update. No reboots on charger, no sleep of death and everything is working as it should.

[Q] Gingerbread messed up my flash: FIXED Plus ROOT!

OK, I have a Samsung SCH-i500 SHOWCASE, (yes I know its not a fascinate/mesmerize). My provider sent a text message to me telling me about Gingerbread update so I installed it. Now my LED flash doesnt seem to work correctly: for instance, when I take a pic with flash on auto it never flashes. If i turn the flash to "ON" then it flashes only when taking the pic, not during the "autofocus" period. Also NONE of the flashlight apps that I had installed can turn on my LED. One more thing, the flash will NOT turn on in video camera mode either. Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix? Below is the Gingerbread update I used (Generic CDMA SCH-I500)
https://www.wirelesspioneer.com/pdfs/i500SWUpgrade.pdf
After months of searching I found the fix (does NOT require root and its very simple). In the same link there is root instructions that work flawlessly!
Follow the instructions in the link below: (to get your phone into download mode power off and hold the volume down button while plugging usb cable into phone.

provider issue
sounds to me like the update ur provider gave u had a glitch. If i were you, id try to flash back to a later rom then reinstall the update. see if that fixes the issue

[Q] Odin wont recogize my Captivate

So this is my first question ive posted. i hope its in the right place. I havent found anything on this specific problem anywhere
Anyway I was running SerendipityVII and started having issues with some things. so i flashed DarkyRom from recovery.. everything was fine for a while but some of the aspects of Serendipity were still showing. so i decided to use Odin to flash back to 2.3 then flash Darky alone. So heres the issue. after flashing the PIT, pda, csc and phone files from the SerendipityVII install download, you then need to flash reorient Kernel1.1 which appears to fix issues with the original flash,(auto rotate not working properly, home button acting as back button, etc) well after rebooting and putting phone in download mode again to flash kernel. Odin will now not recognize my phone. Kies will not recognize it either. so when i hook up the phone Windows(XP), recognizes the different hardware elements of the phone depending on mode but installation fails on several of them...
Now thats the problem. the question is can i fix this? Oh super one click root wont recognize either and in recovery mode the power button wont select the option. Stuck on a jacked up version of 2.3 and need to do something...
Thanx in advanced
ok not too long after posting this question i figured out the issue. turns out yes it was a driver issue and i think i was caused by kies... anyway i uninstalled the samsung drivers under control panel. rebooted computer then reinstalled them and Viola.. Odin works again

[Q] No USB on Gummy 12/31 nightly

Has anyone on the 12/31 Gummy been able to mount their phone with USB? When I connect it to my computer neither the phone or the computer recognize each other. I am thinking it is an issue with the ROM because when I unplug from power it take 30 sec to a min for the phone to realize it is no longer connected.
I would have posted this in the ROM thread but I don't have 10 posts yet so I can't comment there.
ANyone have any ideas? I wiped and went back to the 12/27 nightly and still cannot use USB on my phone. I have tried on 2 different win8.1 computers, and 2 win7 laptops
I went back to my backup of 4.1.2 from beans and USB doesn't work there now. Is there something with 4.4.2 on this phone that messes up USB? It worked fine before I put Gummy on it.
EDIT:
Recovery doesn't get detected either, but download does. I'll probably reflash recovery to CWM instead of TWRP and see if that helps
