can anybody port the stock sprint evo bootscreen for our hero's? i know it's pretty basic but i like the look of it.
Possibly
I have been customizing the stock bootscreen for the Hero. If you have the Evo files or a .gif animation I can give it a try.

Above has the boot screen link to download the file. I would be intrested in the boot screen as well, if you can do it.
????
Hey sorry for the delay, I have been out of town for a few weeks. The link here doesn't seem to have the stock EVO files. Only links for customized animations.

You are right, sorry. I thought the first zip file was the stock one. Oops, I will post a question on the Evo board to request the stock boot screen animation since I do not see one anywhere on the internet.
Sounds good, I also have had a lot of trouble finding it.

Good new and bad news.
It turns out that the bootanimation.zip, in the link provided works fine on the OEM release w/ROOT and the latest [ROM] Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 Test 4 For Hero CDMA.
I am still a "Junior Member" so I cannot post links or files.
Anyway.... since these 2 releases use the bootanimation.zip for the animation, any sequence of .PNG files with the proper desc.txt file will work in .ZIP format. Even if the resolution is incorrect.
Audio has been my problem at this point. For the life of me I can't figure out how the EVO will play audio and the HEROc will not even using the bootanimation.zip config instead of the other ROM's using a .GIF file and .XML files.

Please PM me for more detailed info so we don't tie up the threads.

In Nfinitex45's rom there is a zip file containing the same layout you discussed. I took all 35 png files out of the sprint folder which is the animation that it plays in the boot screen. What I did is created a animated gif with all those file in gimp. Then took Fresh's rom 2.0d. And extracted the bootscreen folder. I took that xml file with some of those animated gif files along with the one i created from all the png files and created a bootscreen with animation and sound. I did this to test out if it would work and it seemed to work, after removing the .zip file in system/media. And placing the bootscreen folder in system/media. The only thing I see that we will need to do for this animation is change the size of the pics to the hero's resolution, besides that do the same procedure and it should work. (i think)
I have noticed with some rom's people use the .gif .xml combo. I will try doing what you said and we'll see what happens.
Also does Fresh's rom 2.0d play audio on boot, i am curious if there is a line in the .xml file that calls to a specific .mp3 file?

Yes it has a line for the audio that plays mp3's.
Yup..
It all depends on the ROM. Some use a .zip file with a series of .png images and a properly formatted .desc file.
Other Rom's use an .xml file with a .gif animation and .mp3 file for audio on boot.
seems like roms built for sprint using android 1.5 or 1.6 used .xml config, newer 2.1+ roms are using the .zip .png combo??????
I really don't see a pattern.
Long story short the files provided can be used for ROM's that use the xml config because it supports audio on boot.
That's all I got..

Yeah I tried to create the boot animation as well, but the images got all discolored when creating a gif. I tried several times only to fail, so I gave up. What's weird is I did the same thing for the files contained in Nfinitex45's rom and it worked fine. IDK?!?

Here is flashable zip with the Evo Bootscreen:Evo Bootscreen
Or download from the attachment below
There is no sound right now. I need to figure out exactly why I can't get sound even while using the xml layout.
If you want to push it to your phone unzip and navigate to system/media and push bootanimation.zip to /system/media via adb

I put it in the title, and I'll put it here again because I KNOW someone will ask (or do worse)
THIS BOOT ANIMATION WILL ONLY WORK ON THE P6210 WITH KERNELS THAT SUPPORT BOOT ANIMATIONS. THAT CURRENTLY ONLY INCLUDES MY KERNEL FOR THE P6210 WITH A VERSION GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 20120105.
I wonder how many people will ignore that and install it on the 20120102 version (which, honestly, will amuse me quite a bit as it'll have an interesting result.)
Credit where credit is due: The actual boot animation was modified from the animation provided in UnNamed 1.x for the AT&T SGSII by gtg465x. All I did was rotate all the images, tweak the dimensions of the control file, and stick it into a recovery installable update.zip file.
How to install:
Download it. Put it on your device. Boot into recovery and install .zip file from sdcard (or internal sdcard if you put it on the microSD.)
This is completely unsupported... it's only meant as a sample and proof of concept for the boot anims.
This post has a link to a youtube showing the boot anim: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21101682&postcount=8

Rock On dude! can someone post a teaser video! thanks garyd!!
dont know if this also removes boot up sound,
in case anyone cant figure it out it should be /system/etc/poweron.wav, you can play the .wav first to verify, if so rather than delete it just rename to backuppoweron.wav
cheers!
by the way i found a way how to change the bootanimation on my galaxy mini :
1. delete the 'bootanimation' located in /system/bin (better to backup)
2. then copy and rename 'samsungani' to 'bootanimation'
3. then delete (backup) the bootani.qmg located in /system/media
4. copy the bootanimation.zip file to /system/media
and, i tried this on my gtab 7+ p6200.
but on step 3, in /system/media there are bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg. i don't know which file to delete/replace.
is the bootsamsungloop.qmg ?
can someone help me?
how come that Gtab7+ doesn't support the bootanimation ? if we got samsung bootanimation means it can support any bootanim i guess. or whatcha you think ?

ive tried this method with renaming both of these files, bootanimation finishes and lockscreen/homescreen come up but bootanimation is frozen stuck covering the top 60% of screen.
I've got this already up and going on my tab with the stock ICS boot animation. Did it late last night. Didn't use this boot animation, modified my own from my galaxy s2.
I'll post a video today on how it looks. Much better than stock.

Normally there is a power on audio file in /system/media/audio/ui but I can't see one.
Power off is in there though
EDIT found it!
/etc/1power_on.ogg
Delete that and bye bye boot up sound
Same here. its system/etc/1_poweron.ogg just renamed mine with root explorer.
This mod is only a "proof of concept" to demonstrate the changing of the boot animation using the kernel I posted in another thread. The boot sound is unrelated to the boot animation from the kernel point of view. Normally, the boot animation and/or sound would be changed by firmware developers.

Because Samsung insists on using their own wacky bootanimation binary and format.
So you need to either:
1) Replace the binary (manual effort, no "fallback" if no bootanim is present)
2) Add a script to the kernel initramfs that uses "standard" bootanim support if you have one present, and Samsung's as a fallback.

Hello There.
Found a Bootanimation thread on the S6 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/themes-apps/mod-enable-zip-bootanimation-aroma-boot-t3205320
I was wondering if its possible to use that same zip to get rid of the qmg file extension and be able to just start making and using standard android zip boot animation files.
Any dev interested on looking at the "source" to see how it´s made? What to "mod" in our S7? Something to flash, or just a line to change on the config files.

You are close... here is the thing:
You can have custom boot animations on your galaxy, just with root access and changing the right bootanimation files that are inside system/media.
The thing is that those files, if we are on Samsung devices, have the extension qmg (bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg and shutdown.qmg).
All the other android phones have a file called bootanimation.zip
The difference lies in the type of file. In order to make a qmg file you need to do a lot of tricks with an outdated samsung application, that converts jpgs into compressed qmg files.
On the other hand, if you want to make a standard android boot animation zip, you can just use the images and zip´em (there´s a little more than that) or you can use any gif to convert it to a bootanimation.zip file with online free conversion tools.
You can even use youtube videos to convert them into hight quality gif and then use a gif to bootanimation converter to get your file.
That´s the deal.
Now, the trick is how to make samsung to "read" the original bootanimation.zip files instead of the propietary qmg file.

Ah... Now I see what you mean.
The system/bin/bootanimation file has some lines (some unreadable but some that you can actually read) if you open it like a text file, that have some references to the boot animation file.
There are a few interesting lines:
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg /system/media/bootvideomain.mp4
So guess what you pointed out!
You can use any mp4 video as a boot animation video... just copy the mp4 video to your system/media, and name it "bootvideomain.mp4". Then rename bootsamsung.qmg to something like bootsamsung.qmg.old.
Be sure that the permissions on the mp4 are "rw - r - r."
I have just tested it with really ugly results, but it worked (video should be made on portrait. I placed a "landcape video from whatsapp, so it was compressed to 8mb and unfortunatelly, sideways".
Gonna mess around more to see...
So at the momment, I haven´t changed any file. Just playing with the bootsamsung.qmg and placing a bootvideomain.mp4 on the system/media folder.
It seems it takes a little longer to boot, and the video only plays for about 5 seconds...
Using the same system/bin/bootanimation file.
I´m not a programmer, but it seems like there´s a list of what kind of animation should the
Update: I found the bootanimation.zip file, and replaced it with a custom animation file. However, that resulted in a blank screen with the Android logo, not the new boot animation.
Then, I tried changing the "desc" text file, the number of frames in the new animation, and the file names to match the old boot animation file, but nothing's working. (Now its just a blank screen on boot, the Android logo is now gone.)
Does anyone have a solution to this?

I'm using the Honor 6x (BLN-L24) running Android 7.0.
So, I'm trying to replace the default bootanimation.zip file with a custom one so that I can have a custom animation on boot.
The problem is, I can't locate where the original bootanimation file is located.
I tried looking where the posts I read about told me to look: "/system/media" but it wasn't there. The only files present in that folder were audio files.
Obviously, moving the custom bootanimation.zip file there (in "/system/media") didn't work.
Then, I tried moving the custom animation file into "/data/local" but that didn't work either.
Finally, I just searched the entire system using root explorer and the only file I found was a "bootanimation" file in "/system/bin" that didn't have any label after it, (ie, ".zip, .png, etc.)
Replacing that file with the custom zip file caused my device to not have a boot animation at all, just a blank screen. It probably wasn't the right file. (I "replaced" that file by renaming it to "bootanimation.bak")
Btw, when I tried opening that file, all I got were a bunch of scrambled symbols and letters.
Does anyone have a solution on how I could possibly change my boot animation/ find the original boot animation file? I think I'm missing something here.

I guess it's due to incorrect permissions. You can change the permissions for the zip by long pressing and selecting permissions. Sorry i don't really remember the correct permissions but you can look it up on Google. If that doesn't work either you can use jrummy's bootanimation app from the playstore.

[solved] new boot animation fix
If you encounter the error of having a blank bootscreen and Android logo then you must verify the file that you put in /system/media.
The file should contain different folder starting from part0,part,...
The boot animation file should also contain desc.txt file that contains proper display configuration of your device hardware and name of all part folders followed by c and 2 digit 0s and 1s
After all,
One and last thing every part folder should contain many jpg images of same name followed by sequential numbers.
At last change file permission to rw- r-- r-- using any kind of root explorer.
Permission should look like this

I use es file explorer

No need to provide seperate zip files, you can easily extract them from the apk. Here are the steps :
Download the apk file.
Download any root explorer of your choice.( I prefer ES File Explorer)
Navigate to the downloaded apk and long press it.
Under the 3 dot menu select extract to and extract the apk.
Now you will find the bootanimation.zip file in assets/bootanimation folder.
Now go to the root folder and navigate through system>media. Once there locate your current bootanimation.zip file
Long-press your current bootanimation.zip file, and click copy, as we'll want to have a backup just in case. Paste it wherever convenient for you OR simply change the extension from .zip to .bak
Once your new bootanimation.zip has been selected for moving, navigate back to system > media and paste it there. You'll have to overwrite your current animation zip, but that's fine since you have a backup in case something goes wrong. Go for it.
For many of you, the previous step will be the last step. But, if for any reason you're still stuck with you old animation, you can try aligning the permissions of your newly-copied bootanimation.zip file with the permissions in the system/media folder. In our case, those were rw-r-r. Just long-press your new bootanimation.zip file and click Permissions and change them until they fit. The logic behind these abbreviations goes like this: Owner - Group - Other. Read for 'r', Write for 'w', and Execute for 'x'. Save the changes and restart.

Dunno what im doing wrong but even setting the permissions for the zip file is not working in CRDroid.. i haven't tried any other rom tho.
Well to be honest it actually changed but to something completely stock?... dunno how to call it but it just says "Android" and it lights up a bit , doesn't say crdroid anymore but i also didn't get the watchdog boot animation i wanted.
EDIT: Lol my bad was missing a letter faceplam~ , ok now ... is there a way to make it use the whole screen? Right now it doesn't . Thanks in advance

Well the redmi note 4 of course and i said CRDroid on my comment. Maybe there is something bad related with the rom there cuz i always had trouble to change the bootanimation on crdroid...
I did it manually and only that way it worked but it looks weird since it doesn't take the whole screen , then i took a look to the images inside the boot animation zip and i can see they are 768 x 1280px.
So i was gonna extract the images and increase their size to Full HD Res with photoshop and batch processing, but do you think it will work? should i change the desc tex file too?
Because it has the 768 x 1280px written there too and there a "30" next to it ( which i guess is the frames per second for the boot animation? lol).
Thanks in advance
