Well, it does seem we didn't have to wait that long.
I have just tested the 8500 froyo pre-release on the 8300 and everything works except for the gyro. This means that the screen is always displayed in portrait.
I know, thats not good on a phone designed to display in landscape. But hopefully someone will port the gyro drivers from the 2.6.29 kernel and we'll have a real improvement on our hands! Or someone will find a solution that forces landscape, which is almost as good.
You'll find the instructions on installing froyo here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942971
And rooting here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966624
This is surely a treat!
And if someone has any working solution for the "landscape" problems please let me know on this thread. I'll keep looking for a solution.
/Peter
Edit:
Oh, yeah, forgot one thing. The initial splash screen looks terrible (green background with a blue and red square), so if someone has any idea on how to change that for a nice xda logo or something. I would be most greatful!
Doesn't seem like gps is working either...
/Edit
Well, i can't do any programming. But some things i can acutally improve.
It seems that the keyboard layout that came with the 8500 doesn't match the layout on the 8300.
So here's an updated keyboard layout. Just replace the file named:
qwerty.kcm.bin
located in:
/system/usr/keychars/
With the one attached to this post. Root explorer will (apparently) do that for you. I haven't tried doing it with root exporer (did it with adb). But i have tested the keyboard layout and it works just fine.
Hope that helps anyone!
Please let me know if you have any problems installing replacing the file!
/Peter
Oh yeah, almost forgot, adw launcher lets you set the layout (portrait) of your desktop screens. Thats at least a little help.
edit
Forgot again... The source for 8500 is available on the huawei download site.
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwi...d=list&flay=software&directoryId=20&treeId=0#
/edit
I flashed this rom, had alot of trouble with phone connection and such
did a nand backup using recovery-RA-pulsemini-v1.6.2.img reflashed my Boost stock updata.app then restored the nand backup, everything is working great and i have the Boost mobile splash instead of the odd one, didn't fix the gyro though
edit: GPS seems to be working fine, so fixing the gyro or a locked landscape mode is the only bug left.
I'll be following this thread very closely, with any results I get I'll be sharing them here.
I can't seem to get USB debug to work, it's either a CD emulator with the Huawei device programs or mounting the SD card. Anyone else having this issue, or is there a workaround?
OK, some progress; I've just rooted using z4root (sideload) and it appears to be working - Just backed up apps and settings with Titanium Backup.
I just downloaded the stock U8300 so now I've got something to fall back on in case of emergency. It's not listed on the Huawei website though.
So now forwards, to Froyo!
Current progress:
Downloaded U8500 Froyo ROM and installed as per instructions above, twice.
Rooted with Z4Root installed from my SD card.
Had trouble trying to get the keyboard settings over; I tried using Ghost Commander to copy it into place with root access without success. Any other options, lugiber?
I'm not really interested in using Android Dev programs, nor buying apps... is it possible to use terminal commands to copy it into place instead?
Still got the sideways screen issue as expected. GPS works, Wifi works, gyro and compass work somewhat (even the original U8300 caused some issues with North to the 'right' of the phone ie 90degrees off).
google root explorer apk download it to your sd card, install it and just remember to mount the file system as rw, theres a button at the top in root explorer then copy it over
Hmmm, no dice.
Clicked 'mount R/W' but still said /system/usr/keychrs directory didn't have permissions, tried editing manually which didn't apply either.
Are there any other similar ROMs (eg CM6 or the like) that may also be closely compatible? i can put up with the keyboard until I get the screen rotate working, and I read somewhere that some has done so... I'll get back if it works.
I just received and email from Huawei saying they have now released the source code for the U8300 on their website!! It's the eclair kernel, I presume; I haven't downloaded it to check yet.
They also have the 'Normal' (presumably generic) Froyo source code there too, if that is useful to anyone.

But I am more interested in speed: is it faster than stock firmware?
Thanks in advance!

Hello all,
I've been messing around with the camera's driver library and parameter files and I finally managed to correct the parameter issue that was preventing the modded skype from using the front camera on video calls while using Gingerbread.
Now Skype is fully functional again. Bluetooth headsets also works (A2DP) even Bluetooth microphone works! (Using the official Skype app.)
Confirmed its working by 4 people now :-D.
The modification works in both theos00's V12 version and the official Skype app from the market.
Please don't use droidrx's version since it doesn't work properly and it's outdated.
Just flash it through CWM, uninstall and reinstall skype and you are set.
NOTE:
The patch is really simple and can be done manually. If you have a modified build.prop file and you are an experienced user please edit the file manually by making the changes below(If you have it already, you need to reinstall skype after these modifications):
Code:
ro.product.model=LG-P920
ro.product.brand=lge
ro.product.name=lge_Cosmopolitan
ro.product.device=p920
ro.product.board=omap4sdp
ro.build.product=p920
If for some reason you flashed the build.prop file already and got issues with other programs, then use the recovery file and do the changes manually instead.
Well dont use skype but if it works good job. Glad to see so many people contributing.
...fighting ninjas at night, talkin' about this and that.
Instead of skype, I'm using Tango.

The modification works in both theos00's V12 version and droidrx's version.
I recommend theos00 V12 since it has much more features and it's more up to date.
Don't forget to check the preview surface option if you use droidrx's version. theos00 V12 doesn't need that.
Just flash it through CWM, uninstall and reinstall skype and report back to this thread if it works for you.
EDIT: I updated the zip. Those who downloaded it yesterday and have problems can flash the new zip.
EDIT2: It's confirmed now that also the official Skype app from the market works after this modification

Now the camera don't work properly with Fring. I see my image inverted. Can you do something?: (
Are the files you changed loaded on boot or loaded every time the camera is being used?
I think that a simple app could solve this by letting the user change the files when they use skype and change them back when they are using other apps that wont run correctly with the modified files.
EDIT:
Saw now that it's the build.prop file and the TICameraCameraProperties.xml file which is loaded on boot.
So creating an app that requires root that basically changes back the files is easy, but it would required a reboot of the phone.
EDIT2:
I cant find any changes made in build.prop? Sure you changed anything there? Just found changes in the .xml file. Better leave the build.prop file out else this update will only work for v21a.
Anyway, great work!

Inverted how? Upside-down or mirrored? Mirrored meaning your right side is on the left. If that is the case then it's not a big deal if at least skype works!

Yup sorry forgot to upload the restore script. Just flash the restore script from the first post and it will be fixed.

The changes both in the xml file and the prop file are minor. In the xml file, the only thing I changed was the default resolution values.
In the prop file I changed some entries like the product and such. This is vital for the recognition of the device by the apps.
I think it might work with just the prop file. The xml file is needed by the modded droidrx and theos00 apps since they need 320x240 in order to work otherwise it's black screen. In the GB firmware the default resolution is 640x480 for the front camera so neither of these apps work.
I will try now with just the prop file changed and I will post back the results.
EDIT: Only droidrx version seems to have problem with the resolution. There is really no need to use his app since it's way outdated. First post updated with more info.
I tried this patch but is not working, all I can see is a simple black screen from both sides

I've the same problem. With fring and skype. I use the king's Rom
Although I tried this with the official 21A and also with acura v5 and echts baxter roms, I see no reason not to work with other roms too. Did you try to uninstall skype and install it again? About fring I don't know. I will give it a try later.
You really need to uninstall skype and install it again. Otherwise it wont work.

Yep I've reinstall skype and fring. with the first patch I heven't a cam with sype, but a inverted upside down cam with fring. Whith the second patch the videocall programs don't see my frontal camera, also Fring work with the principal camera only.

I don't know about Fring, the thread is about Skype actually. And that is reported that works fine with any GB roms I've tried so far. I don't know if you use froyo but I haven't tried it yet.
So try that: Flash the restore file I have on my first post, then download again the patch file from my first post and flash it again.
Restart the phone and uninstall then install the official skype from the market.
Tell me if both Fring and Skype work normally
I'm sorry but Fring don't work. Skype is ok but I use so much Fring too. Is the only one app that work nice on nokia too for the videocall.
Hi!
Can you explain better how to install the patch please?
By example
Install skype from market
flash the zip
uninstall the skype
install the skype again from market..
I dont know if that is the right way to do it.
Thank

Hi m33ts4k0z
Thanks for your help. Yours is a fantastic work fixing skype video. It is shame on LG that they could not fix these kind of issues before releasing firmware updates.
Once again thanks.

I noticed that sometimes when you start a call, skype will just not show you your own video. It will send your video to others but it won't show it to you as you will just get a black screen. Just drop the call and call again and it should get fixed. This is a skype bug and not Androids/LGs one.

It's not so much of an issue. It's just that LG changed some values on the build.prop file by making the phone not recognisable by skype. But the thing that's great is that for first time in history for the Android system, Skype does actually use the BT mic on a call! That has never happened before
Thanks anyway
MY QUESTION:
Can anyone help me backdate my Hastarin r8.5.1 kernel to Hastarin r7.2 on my current rom?(Rom details below.)
I feel like I've tried everything, but I think I need an official kernel update with the proper system files(like w/ root files, kernel updater, zImage, etc). If needed, I can supply any files for the 7.2 kernel that I got from another rom package(also listed below). I've already attached the zImage file from it, although I'm not sure how helpful it might be.
THE DETAILS:
So, you're probably asking yourself, "Why 7.2?" Good question.
Well, first I should say, I've used many different Android builds on my HTC HD2 over the last year & with them I've tried many different kernels. I'm currently using this Sense 3.5, Android 2.3.5, v. 7.0, sd build by Boxmax here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256423...because I like the function & look of the HTC Sensation XL. The SD build version of the rom comes packed with the Tytung r14 kernel, but it is really laggy. I've tried many other versions of Tytung on the build, as well as many other kernels uploaded to the thread, including Hastarin r8.5.1 & r8.6 because I had read that the Hastarin kernels were still the best for SD roms & I would have to agree, but they still lag a bit as well.
Ironically, the fastest Android build I've tried so far, out of all of them, was one called Mdeejay FroYo Sense v.3.0a. It was Android 2.2.1 & came bundled with the hastarin r7.2 kernel. It worked perfectly from the beginning and never lagged. I originally found the rom here: http://www.jayceooi.com/2010/10/14/download-mdeejay-froyo-sense-2-2-1-frg83-android-rom-for-htc-hd2/
So, I thought what if I update my Boxmax rom with Hastarin 8.5.1 & then just replace the zImage file in my Android folder with the Hastarin 7.2 kernel from the Mdeejay installation package while in Windows Mobile. I know this isn't the right way to do it, but I wasn't sure how to make an update package for it, so I backed up my original configuration & gave it a shot.
Sure enough though, I powered on Android and the build was FLYING faster than any other Kernel I had previously installed & the Android software info was showing I had the Hastarin r7.2 kernel. However, everything seemed to be working perfectly except for the camera. It would open without error & seemingly had all the functionality, except there was no preview of the picture in the display & it wouldn't take a picture. If I didn't like taking pictures so much with my phone I would have just kept it, but alas I replaced it again with Hastarin 8.5.1. The camera works again now, but of course it's back to lagging again, even after reinstalling the whole rom.
Does anyone have any possible solutions to this by chance? Thank You In Advance For Any Help Or Advice You Can Give!!! Very much appreciated!
Hi,
anyone know how this is done? I tried the same way as for the G3 users and I got FC even when I restored the old camera. Has anyone made this work? I know its possible on the G3
I want it too so much...stock camera is ugly and hasn't many settings.
XCam also doesn't work;(
I was playing around with this the other night. Unfortunately I too was unable to get it to work. I believe it might have something to do with the version of Android. If you and I both used the same source to get a hold of the apk and other files then that's why we were unable to get it to work. Files I think need to be pulled from a device running same version of Android as the one our device is running. I've seen this happen before. The apk downloaded doesn't show the right icon for camera it has a standard default icon for apk files.
@changstalicious have u got ur camera working ?? i m having the same problem , after restoring stock files , still the older camera app is not working ..
Currently here is the system dump. Working on kernel first just not what I normally do so it's playing with me lol.
First off this is built off the LG Aristo LGMS210 from Metro PCS.
This is going to stay as a stock base NOT ASOP.
OTAs are always last. It's nice to have a good strong base then update as needed so it won't have security patches from the OTAs 10min after the release. Right now I did not update before doing a system dump.
The system dumps or roms can be used by others just please give credit. If someone makes a kernel give them credit also please after asking them.

This is just a spare just in case I get board now to clean this up
Thank you!
Glad to see this device get some attention, it's a decent phone and we already have root, twrp, and nougat. Just missing tweaks here and there.
Im just having kernel issues hoping someone can get us a custom one. So far I have deleted a bunch copied pixel launcher and this thing is amazing now. Even going to make a car puter version on this phone.
Works but looks bad but got Samsung Gear VR working on this thing. Lol. Once we get another kernel we can get that flashed on everyones phone not doing my way.
How can I make this system dump a usable rom?
Umm you can't it's for another device to. Really install pixel launcher. Make a system backup. Copy pixel launcher folder from data app to system priv app not delete all the launchers and apps I can post what I have then you factory reset your phone then once booted you will have pixel launcher and the feel of how my phone will feel till I can get a kernel and flash that way.
So it just adds the pixel launcher as a system app?
I goofed
Is there anyway you could upload just the mixer_paths.xml file located in system/ect by chance? Went to go try to increase headphone volume and sneezed and fubard the file somehow.... Now i have no sound at all on anything amdthe phone dont even detect headphones. Id download the dump/or rom but my internet speeds are just too darn slow to get at 960 mb file. *metro slows it down below 20k a second*
Install pixel launcher and anyother app you need when you do a factory reset it will let you boot just fine.
