make a nandroid backup and give it a shot. i tried it on embryo6 (cache wipe, dalvik wipe x3, installed and rebooted) and it borked my audio. no ringtones, no notifications, no media sounds. restored to my backup right before install and audio working fine again.
do a backup for you flash anything!

Yes you can flash it on stock or custom rom, it doesn't matter.
You don't need to wipe any cache or dalvik
But as ctalcant said, always do a backup, better safe than sorry

I'm sorry but i don't know how you accomplished that, I'm on embryo 6 too and it didn't bork my audio.
You must be doing something wrong. My guess would be that you shouldn't have wiped anything. I didn't and it worked perfectly for me

I try it again without the wipes and report back.
Update: installed without stopping any caches/dalvik and everything seems to be running fine. Looks as though wiping the caches did me in.

[Q] (Q)Urgent.. Downgrade\Restore from ICS

Hi, I was using Paul Burtons ICS port and I made a backup of my Prime rom . However when I booted back to CWM and restored the NAND backup it says succesful yet when I reboot, the screen stays black after the transformer splashscreen/logo.. I tried erasing all data and factory reset and searched and checked the original thread... I can however go back to the ics port and successfully boot up to it... any help would be greatly appreciated.. thank you XDA.
goodness ya noob.. you shouldn't have flashed that ics port.. it was extremely experimental. Anyways seeing that you tried everything I would have, Im sorry to say that i can't help but I applaud you for at least searching and checking the original thread. LOL.

I did the same thing as op. But when I try restoring I get an error saying .android_secure.img is missing. Any ideas?

Im back at stock and i still cant restore. Its the .android_secure.img. its missing from my sd card
i had the same problem i did the wipes in cwm and then restored and got a black screen as you describe.
then i grabbed superwipe from revolution rom(i dnt kno if its neccessary but it worked) from black screen i boot into cwm ran superwipe loaded my rom which is revolver right from the rom flashable zip as a new install. then rebooted and back into cwm then restored my backup. not sure whats goin on or why it worked it may be overkill but i got back to my backup.
if you need better explaination just ask
So i would use super wipe lite or the normal one?

New ROM

Whenever i try to flash a new ROM it doesn't want to load. I've tried the CM7 nightlies and the pheonix ROM. This is what I do.
I root my phone via one click root.
Install clockwork recovery via app.
wipe
install ROM via recovery (install zip)
start up
Locks at LG screen. Ugh!
Any advice?

NEVER flash CWM from an app, you HAVE TO flash via NVflash.

This is a must for the g2x. If you use from manager it only fake flashes clockwork mod recovery and makes you unable to flash roms.
Typical way to achieve root on the g2x is to.
1. Nvflash cwm
2. Create a nandroid backup.
3. Flash a rom that has root.
Don't bother with rom manager or super one click.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and get back to you. I don't think it had to do with the wipe as I always ran a wipe script before installing. I thought it had to do with the kernel.... (don't have a clue though)

I think so. Catch is that I don't know if doing that will actually update anything, the whole problem is that ROM manager doesn't flash it properly/to the right place. The only thing to do is make a nandroid and try it out and if ti doesn't work, then reflash with NV flash and you're good.

You have to do a factory reset before flashing.
If that still doesn't work, try flashing eollie's oneclick here, and flash the rom from the 5.0.2.8 recovery.

[Q] ROM Flashing Question

Okay, So I have a Galaxy S III for VZW(SCH-I535) and I was wanting to flash a ROM but I do not know how. I read guides but I really don't wanna ruin my phone. Is there any ROMs that I can use with Odin that would be easier. I want to use the Latest Liquid Smooth ROM. Is there any way I can do this easily WITHOUT worrying about screwing up my phone?

That's not really necessary it's very easy. To flash roms you flash zip files, then your recovery does the work to copy all the files in that zip to the correct place, then when you reboot you have your ROM. So for liquid smooth here is my tutorial: 1. Download Liquidsmooth, the download link is in the OP of the LS thread, also download Google apps, you'll see download links for that in the LS thread, it's something you need for AOSP ROMs. 2. Both will download as a zip file, don't extract it and copy the 2 zips to your phone's SD. 3. Boot into recovery, select Wipe and choose the options data, system, cache, and dalvik. You will always check these 4 before flashing any ROM. No more and no less. 5. Choose the flash option, in the file manager find your liquid smooth zip, confirm flash, and let it finish. You are now on liquid smooth hooray but you are not done. 6. Since you're on AOSP you do not have Google apps which you need or you won't have a play store app. So now flash the Google apps zip the same way you flashed liquid smooth. Now reboot and voila. That is how you flash any ROM. But for touch wiz ROMs you do not flash Google apps.

Yup those 4. I think the ROM will wipe system for you but I like to wipe it anyway. Make sure you don't accidentally select "internal storage" cause that will wipe your SD card. Then after that you'll have nothing installed and that's when you install your ROM. Don't forget to install the gapps zip too after.

What was the name of the gapps zip you installed? It should be called "gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip" you might have gotten a bad download with your ROM or your gapps or both. You can check the md5 to see if it matches. It if doesn't match you have a bad download.

Ideally you should wipe everything and then clean install the ROM. To retain your data and apps, you can take backup using titanium backup or take backup of data partition using BMM then restore (though I am not too sure about BMM method if it really works perfectly).
If you don't want to wipe then you can try to dirty flash the 6.0 ROM on the existing version. Just don't perform format or wipe, just flash the ROM+Gapps. see If it goes well.

Even if there is OTA support in the ROM then also it doesn't mean that the phone will be updated automatically like how it happens in case of official firmware updates. The OTA in most of the custom ROMs just downloads the ROM file on your phone, thats it. Rest you will have to manually install/flash the ROM using that downloaded file like how you maybe doing it now. OTA just cuts the step of finding and downloading the ROM file from internet. So IMO its not a feature which matters much.
Ok bro...thanks a lot for sharing the info and for the timely response...

Perhaps it's time for you to clean flash? Idk. Sounds like it's bootlooping. 5.9 gapps was 4.4.3. Meanwhile version 6 is 4.4.4. Sometimes its best for you to start afresh to avoid any issue.

No option other than clean install. That type of issue why its always recommended to clean flash the newer versions.
To have little bit of hope, backup the data partition using BMM then later try to restore the data partition using that backup once you successfully flash the ROM. If it works then all is good and if it doesn't then....

What are the steps you are following? Are you flashing using BMM? Which system? What GApps version? Try not to reboot between ROM and GApps flashing. Flash only minimal GApps.
I haven't faced any such issue with any of the ROMs so far. I just follow the BMM guide word to word.
Right now I am having 5.10 build and its pretty much stable and almost bug-free for me on System 1. There are few experiments going on in the builds after 5.10 so I would recommend you should also flash the 5.10 build.
