EDIT: Temporarily removed as there are some fundamental problems with this approach. Sorry!
I have put together a quick tool to change the keyboard layout used on the ChaCha. If you're having problems with the keyboard after flashing a custom ROM, this tool may help.
Stop messing around with pushing and renaming keyboard layout files.
Requirements:
Root.
Intact keyboard layout directory. (re-apply your ROM if you've messed around with the keyboard layout files)
Chefs, feel free to include this in your ROMs, but please make sure the Market link is set up, so users get updates.
Market link: http://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.celton.chachakeys
If it doesn't work for you, and you want to help out by reporting a bug, please include the ROM version you're using (and a link, if possible), how you unlocked the device (HTCdev or XTC-Clip) and whether the device is S-Off or S-On.
Nice! Thank you for this very useful app!
The Chacha section it's alive again since the bootloader unlock on the htcdev
I'll test it when I get home.

Thanks, that certainly gives me a clue. For this app to work, the keyboard layout files must be untouched. If you're using the azerty version of the ROM, they probably have been messed with a little bit.
I have an idea for detecting and handling this, I'll give it a go and make a new version later this weekend.
Thanks for trying it out!
Awesome work mate!
Congratulations!
As a side-note, I think you should also take into consideration the CIDs for each device, the SuperCID set by XTC when S-OFF'ing (which afaik changes your keyboard to EU) and CWM (that also modifies your keyboard layout).

Original European ROM. Unlocked thru HTCdev and put CWM recovery and root.
Same problem on the CM7 Rom. It tells me that there are some keyboard layouts missing and doesn't work.
hi,good job.
will you upload it again???

It is pre-rooted? I think not.
I can add root to it if you want, I have only published it for developers because it is a new release *1.22*

Yes, I see it, but I ask for it because can be more interesting for all people.
Yes please ;-) can u root it?
That is so eazy
Might be a silly question, but if you pre-root it, will I still need to root my handset to install it. Or can i install this and I'll be rooted?
No the device has to be rooted first and the ROM has to contain su.
Adam, I assume you have tried this rom, did you notice anything different or new?
Hboot will still be upgraded to 0.80 if I flash the pre-rooted 1.22 rom, right?
Edit: Anyone knows what does H3G stands for?

No I removed HBOOT and the radio, and yes the H3G stands for Hutchison 3G.
I noticed Spotify and some 'Three' wallpapers and bootscreen immediately.

being on 3 uk with a generic desire, this is useful for three's skype etc as their custom roms usually include security certificates to allow certain features (such as skype using standard gsm for voice instead of data). Do I need a goldcard to flash this?

hi all,i need to flash an htc sensation cause it doesnt have the italian language in it,i would like to know how to do it and which rom could i use
thanks a lot in advance
Wrong thread, please use the Q&A...
Also, if your phone is locked and you bought it in Italy it should have Italian language..
You can try morelocale2 from market or install some custom rom..

I think that italian language is included in all the roms, however you can try MoreLocale2 before modding your phone; it's free on the Market.
so i can just grab this MoreLocale2 from the market, directly from the phone and try and install it and see what happens?
thanks i will give it a try
guys i did as u suggested and it works great, just one question though,i went to the settings just to make sure that italian language also appears over there and still there is no italian language, language is selected inside MoreLocale. can it be a problem????
is it better to flash a new rom with italian language or i can just keep it like this?
thanks a lot in advance

If you don't want to install a custom rom, just keep MoreLocale on your phone; otherwise, choose a rom and just flash it!

Hi rustynail1985, please if you can help me.
i am using same rom for asia v2.0 and my '@' is replaced by '£' and '~' is replaced by '@'....
I have tried several methods stated in different threads and no luck.
Can you please direct me to what files i should update to fix this?
Thanks
The simplest solution is to flash one of the zip files from there in CWM.
Though, I had no luck in installing the french one on a SuperOSR or CM7. It only works for me on the original rom derivatives. It must be related to the SuperCID

hey guys,
i got it figured out.... see this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496730
good luck
Here is the deal.
HTCdev is our ticket in (areyou sure?) YES
but downgrade is needed!
i have the latest htc chacha rom installed an tried this code
''fastboot oem get_identifier_token''
But it seems to be removed from the latest rom
So first thing we need to downgrade the device so then we can unlock the bootloader
To bad i failed to downgrade if some one got te CHACHA with the first rom ever
So check ur rom or tell me how to downgrade the propper way to force the S-on off it!
what do u mean by downgrade? if you are looking to downgrade try this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320392
I tried that and dont work or i make a mistake or sdcard is ****ed ill check when im home

I sure hope the indeed is our way in, because my wife's ChaCha is in dire need of modifying .

Most of the time sdcard is the culprit
@ajeevlal
You have downgraded the hboot right? Why don't you check the fastboot cmd on your chacha?
@RDilus
Which hboot version do you think is needed?
Are you positive about this?
I'm asking because I've just re-checked the htcdev site and ChaCha is not on the supported devices list. Still!

well it is htcdev just dont wanna tell us because they locked the fastboot code on the chacha on the newest rom
the only HBOOT that can do everything is 0.74.0000 on the rom 1.13.401.1 and i can't downgrade to that version so htc is hiding something im now on 1.18.401.1 HBOOT 1.04.0000 i need to push it to a lower version a pre version before i go on
HTC love to fool us but it aint gonna work there is a reason HTC ChaCha is not listed on the site because no one ever came past fastboot oem get_identifier_token
I've not upgraded my Chacha hboot, afaik lol. Though I don't know which version it is.
It came already s-off, I'm lucky. When I can I'll try that command and see if it works.
Thanks
HTCdev just added the HTC Salsa and a bunch of new devices to HTCdev BL unlock tool. Maybe the Chacha could come next.

I hope so - once they unlock it (IF they unlock it), the activity here will shoot way up, we'll get custom kernels (would love one of these), and we may even get put back in the main forum
and maybe get official recognition in CM!
That would be a dream come true... my Chacha runs so smoothly and lag-free with SuperOSR (which I see is partly based on CM7?) and xd.bx's last build of CM7.2... official support would make this phone complete
UNLOCKABLE AS OF NOW!!!

I can answer the part of your question I can understand, if you have a US/AT&T One X then you can't install another ROM unless you have an unlocked boot loader.
I don't understand the part about a bug, can you clarify?

You're stuck without root and unlocked bootloader if you updated to 2.20 and did not previously unlock the bootloader (or at least achieved SuperCID). 2.20 cannot currently be rooted, and bootloader cannot be unlocked without root.
Locked bootloader means you can only install official ROMs for AT&T, no other carriers or regions.
Not sure, but OP may be asking about the menu button on some apps? If that is the case, go to Settings>Display, gestures & buttons>Recent apps button. There you can configure the Recent apps button to function as the Menu button.
