[Q] Text/Email Notification light - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
I tried searching and couldn't really find anything. I know I've seen people talking about it before but is there any way we can get some kind of thing for developer phones where my notification light (VZW Trophy) will blink if I have a text and/or email? Thoughts?

I'm just curious if anyone has tried this and gotten any results, from any Windows Phone for that matter. That's one thing that I do miss from my Android.

Not at the moment - it has something with API I read somewhere.
However, someone also said 'Premium phones don't do LEDs e.g. iPhones and WP'

[App] Suggestion: Flashlight app for flash-LED

Since the flash LED is almost useless for the camera application... maybe someone can come up with a small flashlight apllication for it in a touchflo/diamond layout?
Has anybody tried VJCandela? You never know it might work??

Just tried v0.3. Sorry to report it does not work But I'm sure someone on this forum will have a flashlight working for us soon enough I think that's all the camera light is really good for anyway.
anyone have an answer for this?
Just wondering... of course, as usual: "after the fact":
The battery on my car was dead, and yesterday I planned to rplace it with a new one... However, in my garage the lighting is awful, and I could'nt find the screws and bolts... ended up calling the mechanics, to come and boost my battery....
An app like this would have been very usefull... would have saved me about 40 Euro's...

You're assuming people will bother to search and read a little before asking questions. Don't.
And look at the dates of the posts in this thread...

Is there an application that can set different color LED notification for CONTACTS?

I dont think there is. Blink can't do it, Handcent sms can't do it, SMS Notifier can't do, did I miss anything? Help me find one please. I'd like a different color led light for John, another for Jane...you know what I mean? If ther's not one, who will make one?
that would be cool

Constant disconnection from google services (lost push notification)

I have just recently found out and realize that below is happening to me.
"Notification bar icons (Wi-Fi, network coverage bars, etc.): Turn green when you have an uninhibited connection to Google, white when you don't. Hint: if you're in a hotel or airport using Wi-Fi, the bars won't turn green until you launch the browser and get past the captive portal."
quoted from http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/some-cool-android-tips-and-tricks.html
when the phone is put to sleep, it often turn white. meaning it got disconnected from google services.
this also resulted to not receiving any push notification (especially on gmail).
when i turn it on again, it will then try to connect to google services and after a while, you will see that the signal bar turn green again.
then only suddenly you receive all the missed notification (this includes gtalk).
anyone has experience similar issue?
(note, i am testing this on mobile data only). going to try it on wifi later.
you seriously have to search the forum, cause this has been covered in a million page thread already in a few different places

hi, do you mean that this is a known issue?
but this doesn't seems to happen to my N1 which is on stock 2.2.1
and guide/direction on where the original discussion is much appreciated.

It's a known issue for the nexus s with a huge thread discussing it.
Unless I'm confusing the issue? Can anyone tell me if I'm thinking of something else?

[Q] Turn off the email sound while on the phone...how?

Anyone knows how to turn off the email notification sound while on the phone on Nexus S. It's extremly annoying and and the other person can hear it as clear as I can? This is the most basic thing and I never had this problem in last 15 years. Thanks...
goto menu->settings then scroll to notification settings
select ringtone->silent
done
All that'll do is switch notification sound to silent at all times. I just want notifications switched to silent when on the phone not at all times.
Thanks for your answer though
Never heard of this issue and sounds very dumb if an alert plays during a phone call. I can't believe it would.

Well, they do! LOL. I noticed it last night while in a call.
Edit: test it yourself. Give yourself a call from another phone, then send yourself an email.

This absolutely should be user configurable within the OS, but it doesn't appear to be.
There's an app called Tasker with a free 7-day trial version that would allow you to setup a work-around.
Tell Tasker that when you're in a call, to turn off notification sounds, and to turn them back on when you end the call.
I'm just now testing the app myself, and it's amazingly powerful in its potential.
edit: On an admin note to the mods...this thread is an example of why even some of we seasoned forum members get confused over where a thread should go. It's clearly a question, seeking a specific answer to solve a problem, and it hasn't been moved to the Q&A section, yet posts that are more general in nature intended to spark discussion are moved to Q&A just because they have a "?" mark in the title or first sentence...
but this is clearly a nexus s specific issue, correct? i'm just trying to think, no other android phone does this that i can tell. certainly my nexus one does not, and i have 4 active simultaneous emails accounts going all day for the last year, exchange account and all. but isnt this something the OS would handle and be common across all devices?
unless its a gingerbread thing...

It appears to be a gingerbread thing.
I just tested it on my SGS with Doc's ROM. No sound heard by either myself or the other party on both email and SMS receipts.
Bug #103 in Gingerbread...?
Is there a website where one can submit bugs like this one so that it can be addressed in the next update? Sounds like an easy fix

Yes, you can go here, but honestly, don't expect quick results. The Google Help forums seem to get more attention, or at least feedback, from real live Google employees.
Thanks distortedloop! I just went to the website and it looks like someone already submitted the bug. Hope it gets fixed soon. Thanks again.

"Star" the issue on there to show you have the problem too, if you haven't.

Same thing happens on my Captivate since I've been playing with Froyo Roms. It's kind of annoying since I use loud, high pitched ringtones because I work on loud environment.

GR5 2017 BLL-L22 LED notification

Hi,
I have just got a Huawei GR5 2017 (BLL-L22) phone. I'm trying to establish if this phone has LED notification (such as when receiving an email/Whatsapp/charging, etc). Looking at the specs of my phone it says there is LED notification and in the main settings menu>Notification & status bar there is an option for Pulse notification light (which is toggled to ON).
The problem is I can't see any sort of LED/light flashing or otherwise when i receive a message or email and there is no light when the phone is charging.
Can anyone help or clarify?
Thanks in advance
Strange, the led should work normally. Usually it becomes orange while it's under charge, green on calls/messages notifications... You could try apps who uses the led (like whatsapp, for example) to check if it's a software error or else. Did you recently updated the device, made something else that ended bad..?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I tried playing around in notification settings but have never seen any LED flash at all. I have looked at the front of the phone where the manual that came in the box indicates the LED is located, but I can't physically see anything. I also tried installing a light manager app (can't remember it's name), but everytime I tried to do the 'test' it said I may need to press the power button to put the phone on blank screen and then no flash.
I'm beginning to think that the GR5 2017 doesn't have an indicator LED (hence the reason for posting on here in hopes that someone with more knowledge of Huawei phones would be able to tell me one way or the other).

The led should be present standing by online reviews, but a confirmation from an user who owns one is what you need.

Thanks again.

Thanks
