I am very hesitating posting this but this is my theory of why there is a huge different battery drain between people. I have 2 droid charge, one belonged to my wife (this is the one I play with it all the time), the other belonged to my daughter and I never look at it until a week days ago when I want to set the record straight with the battery drain issue. Both using stock 1600mah samsung battery. I Odin pit file and factory GB 2.3.6 to both, then flashed Tweakstock. Installed battery defender app on both. I installed the same exact 15 apps (included Lookout). Screen brightness set to 75%. Everytime I used one phone I do the same to the other at the same time. For example: I opened browser at the same time, navigate to the same sites for the same about of time. I mad dummy phone call, I made calls to my two sons' phone and put the 2 charge next to my mouth and talk. So they are pretty much calibrate and 99.99% identical and usage. The results is one is last 10 times (my daughter phone) than my wife's phone. Now how the hell is such a huge huge different. Max time for my wife's phone is 9 hrs and my daughter is......2days. I have a test list to play with both for 1 hrs. So let say the charge is 100%, after I played with my usage list(1hrs), the battery went down to 90% which is 10% per hrs based on my usage list. I did the list again (another 1 hrs) and I see another drop of 10%. So I concluded that my list is pretty accurate for the % drop. If I exercise the list 3 times (total of 3 hrs), 10% each hrs so total usage is 30%. I project the rest. If I do the list 9 times, total would be 9hrs and I should have 10% left after 9hrs. Well, I applied this theory to both phones and the results are unbelievable. So I concluded that the components of the phone is different, possible the cpu, gpu chip from one phone is better than the other(hardware issue not software). That would explain why some people can Overclocking to 1500 and still stable and others only stable at 1100. Some can hit 3100 quadrant score and most only can hit 2200. Here are screen shots of my daughter phone(brightness setting and all the processes, with 13+ hrs and only 70% left. Her phone should last 13 x 3= 39 hrs with 10% left. That's more than 2 days). On my wife phone(the one with ****ty battery drain), I then installed immonsy kernel, then PBJ, then undervolting it, then Jucice defender etc... nothing help. The best I can get out of this thing is maybe 2-3 hrs more. So people don't feel bad if you see pictures with 1-2 days battery life and they are real.
Gotta be right because I get decent battery life on my charge and no matter what I do to help my wife with her phone it just plain sucks.
Overclocking a phone is very similar to overclocking a computer. Some people get lucky with their silicon and their CPUs can handle massive overclocks without breaking a sweat, while some have problems going even 100mhz over their stock ratings. With this said, most processors have very similar power draws at their stock frequencies, regardless of their OC capabilities. I don't think it's the processors fault of battery drain, and also I don't think there have been any hardware revisions.

Yes, the lucky people have their "better silicon chips" inside their Charges. So If you're not in that lucky group, try to tune your phone to get at least close to Samsung factory specs for your Charge which is 11 hrs talk time for normal usage. )

Maybe your wife is using her Charge more than your daughter. Try to keep sync off and screen brightness low for the charge that drains rapidly. Try using wifi or keep mobile data off when not in use (4g eats your battery).

No one will and no one does. Samsung 11hrs talk time is if you only talk on the phone the total time is 11 hrs. It may take you 2 or 3 days to add up the total talk time not in 1 shot.
11 hrs talk time, which translated into about 5 hrs of usage (talk, internet, facebook, text etc..). Talk on the phone doesn't burn that much of power. When you put the phone against your ear, the screen turn off automatically. So, yeh! 11hrs talk time is legit.

You did not read my post clearly. Both phones were put through the same test with the exact same setup. For normal use, my daughter have the brightness up to 75%, 4G, GPS on all the time, basically she never think about the battery. On the other hand, my wife phone with auto 4G off when she turn off the screen, GPS always off, ,manually syn for all internet apps, 15 sec screen timeout vs my daughter is 1 min....and she still has plenty of battery leftover before she goes to sleep @ 11pm. It's the silicon hardware that some luck phone(my daughter is one), that you don't have to do anything and the battery last forever...

A simple test then is to switch batteries and run the test. I have 2 batteries, one 1600 stock and a 1500 one purcased but still. Both have rather poor lifetimes. I've also replaced my phone once with no change in battery lifetime.

Nope. test them all already. I have tried with third party and stock batteries with ALL available capacity 1600,1800, 3500 and 3600. The draw rates are the same for all. they also about 6 months old. The 1600 (about little over 1 year old) is in my phone, which I used to take these pictures.

I too had switch phone, but It's not a lucky one. I then bought another one for my daughter cause her phone broke and she got the lucky high quality silicon one and it's also a refurbish one, not even new. LOL!!
I have a few batteries for my dc. One on which will last me all day long while the others will last half a day with the same amount of usage. Just saying

Your case, you may have a premium silicon phone and one ****ty battery, which is good, all you have to do is buy another bat. for $10.
Samsung in particular is guilty of this. They snuck in different hardware components with the WP7 Focus S without telling anyone and screwed up the Mango update rollout for Microsoft. It's up to Samsung to provide the proper drivers for their hardware.
Now with that in mind, for some reason updating to ICS on my HP Touchpad has eliminated my battery drain issue, so here's hoping the same will happen with the Charge.
Edit: And just as I said that, my Touchpad lost 20% of its charge overnight. Then it lost less than 1%/hour during the day. Sigh.

I think your first statement is correct, since I have 2 exact phone with exact SOFTWARE and one is 2 days on battery and the other is 8hrs. I hope it's software but since I did the test, I strongly believe this is hardware issue. If we still suspect software, maybe someone can download ICS and see if it still drain?

Like I said, ICS drains battery like crazy on my Touchpad. 20% overnight. A lot of Galaxy Nexus users seem to have battery issues as well. I read about a company called OpenMobile releasing a thin client that lets you install Android .apks in webOS and run Android apps in webOS cards. They've managed to port over the Dalvik VM with 95+% speed. It's pretty amazing if it works as advertised. The idea of having the battery life of webOS with the awesome apps on Android is quite exciting.
We have 2 Samusung batteries. One we get atleast 10 hours the other we are lucky to get 6 hours. That is on a stock software phone. On mine I just put Eclipse
on with the latest kernel and tweaks and I hit over 14 hours for the first time.

That was till the g2x. I hate running a task killer. But am about to do just that to see if I can get anymore battery,.
Its to the point where I fully charge phone and yesterday with only 12 minutes of talk. Maybe 20 minutes of Web use and some emails. Battery was yellow.
This is a joke right? My only thought is that by having my Gmail auto refresh every 10 minutes possibly that could be some cause. But I if not in my car to keep on charger phone last barely a day.
Sounds like you have a bad battery, I get great battery life with the phone

Totally true.
For those of you with problems, your phone is still new, it will be replaced either under buyer's remorse (15-20 days) or directly through tmobile after that period.
Just get a new phone and be done with it.
My first hot potato of a phone would get good battery life, until it cooked itself alive. My second phone was on for over 27 hours and was still at 50%. I'm still surprised.

Remember I am the Costco Manager so I can exchange phone as much as I want for 90 days.
This is my third as I wanted a perfect screen.

Huh.. some people are getting awesome battery time. When it first came out, people were having success with doing factory reset on their phone. Idk.. I personally didn't buy it.. but they swore it worked. Give it a try.

So what you're saying then, is those of us with good battery life are the ones with the bad batteries? You really didn't think this through, did you?
I find my battery life was OK on the stock ROM. Nothing I'd get excited about, but I'd gotten used to insanely poor battery life running CM7 on my vibrant. Since I flashed the GB leak (no wipe, fixed permissions, erased battery stats) I'm seeing 18+ hrs with moderate usage.
gingerbread in general gets good battery life, cm7 for galaxy has problems due to samsung not following the google standards, those guys are basically shooting in the dark with that project, yet they have made huge improvments. recently people report decent to improved battery life on the latest builds.
to the op, what are your sync options? i find facebook sync and facebook contact sync are big culprits. also i only use google contact sync to get my contact list initially then turn it off. also if you have your gmail on the stock email app and the gmail app it can increase useage, if you prefer the email app id turn off google sync all together, if you like the gmail app id turn off fetch on the email app.
another culprit is weather apps using the location service, for me beautiful widgets is a battery hog on a vibrant rom but not on a captivate rom so results can vary from phone to phone.
and last of all i dont agree with calibration proceedures, i get some funky results with them, i just delete batstats and then charge to full. i find it takes 3 day minimum to get a good calibration, 5 days is sometimes needed.
I get very good battery life with mine and have been since day one. It lasts almost twice as long as my Vibrant and N1 did.

I use juice defender to turn on/off my data for me when its not being used and the screen is off. It seems to work less than on vibrant.
I'm running stock rom and my battery life varies TREMENDOUSLY from when I'm at work and seldomly using it to when I'm home surfing the web on it ( tablets too far from couch I'm surprised I got the cookies )

I was getting really bad battery life when I first got the phone (about 7hrs ) I ended up finding out that the touch led notification app was the culprit so I deleted it and also calibrated my battery and now my phone last all day easily and that with me playing guerrilla bob and the samurai game at work for like 2 hours lol
I recommend you download the where's my Droid power app from the market and see what's killing your battery

Also keep in mind that it could be a certain app draining your battery. I downloaded the NFL apparently for draft day and even after exiting the app it took my battery down 15% in a matter of 10 minutes. Not to mention it had my battery's and CPU running super hot. On average I get about 12 hours out of a full charge with moderate to heavy usage.

No wonder your a newbie and no listed thanks. What an asswade comment.
NO!!!!!!!!! What I am saying is that is has to be an internal issue with either synch times or possibly an APP be it internal or external that is causing MANY of us to have terrible battery times vs. others with good. Not saying anthing negative about those who are functioning ok.
I have been rooting and modding for 2 years. This is the worst battery usage yet. My Galaxy S 4g. Could last with same synch times and apps for 18 hours.
Now for those others who have there head inserted other then in there behind.
Okay ran some tests today,
1. Charged phone to 100percent.
2. Left everything the way it has been and no adjustments.
Battery at 84 Percent sitting tableside no text, app, wed or voice use after 2 hours. After 4 hours at 64 percent. After 6 hours at 51 percent. After 8 hours at 39 percent. This is with no usage. This is terrible.
Okay, Now have done following based on others test here and other forums.
1. Loaded Setcpu and made profile for sleep using stock 216 usage.
2. reluctently loaded Taskmanager Pro and killed all but needed apps.
3. Loaded Battery calibration app and after charge calibrated phone.
Left my email synch at every 10 minute as its needed for work.
We will see if this brings better test times now and report back.
What may be my culprit from studying this and other forums is I am in Seattle. We are Tmobiles home office corp and full test market for 4g and every change before rest of USA. I get full 4g at all times. In fact my speed tests are off the board. ave of 12 down 1.3 up speeds.
From what I am finding out, those of us in best 4g coverage (and Seattle is listed best) are finding much more drain on battery in standby and in use.
So my theory is that with this phone and its dual proccesor and my 4g, this is why myself and others in like markets are seeing much faster drain then others. Some dispute this possibility. however other experts say its fact.
Will report back findings tomorrow.

May be some of my issue vs. others.
I do have sync on for FB and Google mail 2 accounts. and I use Fancy Widgets for my Weather and news feeds. However I also used these on my HD2 a known battery hog running cm7 and it had even better life then the phone. I run them on my other Galaxy s 4g as well and it has awesome battery life.
But I will freeze these in my next test after running this test.

those are shocking results man... I dont know what to tell you... If I literally dont touch my phone for 6 hours i will drain no more than 10% of my battery, closer to around 6 or 7% based on my battery monitor widget...
I pulled the phone off at 6 this morning and didnt touch it until 12 and I was at 92%... Chelsea got ****ing spanked this morning and I got a barrage of **** talk text messages that I did not want to deal with haha so my phone wen untouched for a good 6 hours...
I will say though, when I first got the phone my battery life was pretty wonky... first drain was great, second one was mediocre, the third and fourth ones were horrible, drained in 6 hours flat of light-moderate use... I did a factory reset at this point to try and change things up... Calibrated once after that and I have run it up and down to get a good read and I have not looked back since, like i said i can get 20-30 hours of moderate to light use no problem at all!
Great battery on my g2x
I had battery problems with my G2x, only lasted about 7-8 hours on moderate use and cell stabd by was like 50% of battery use.
After i installed the leaked official Gingerbread ROM is like a new phone, ofter 16 hours of use i still had 43% last night. In idle mode it uses about 1% in 2 hours.
I think the battery probles come from Froyo not getting along with the dual core processor.
This phone is awesome!

Iceshark, you're not crazy. This is the same exact battery drain I get not even touching the damn phone! This is my second phone in less than 2 weeks, the first had the same results, both brand new.
Today I unplugged my phone at 12:45 pm, gave my mom a call for mothers day (less than 2 min talk time) Got to work and browsed web for maybe 5 minutes then clocked in at 2 pm. Took a 15 min break at 4pm battery was down to 80% (did some web browsing for 5 min). Took my 30 min lunch at 6pm (battery was down to about 60% (did some browsing for about 15 min). Took my last break at 8pm, and battery was down to 30%. I clocked out at 10:30 and I only had 20% battery left. The only timeI touched the phone was on my breaks, the rest of the time my phone was in my pocket. I had juicedefender running on balanced.
It's now 12:01am and I only have 14% battery left, that's not even 12 hours yet, and I only used the phone and it's features for less than an hour, all the other drain was sitting in my pocket. This is unacceptable. And I'm starting to think all the other people who claim to have great battery life are exaggerating or lying through their teeth.
Although I did a test yesterday using auto airplane mode, which automatically enables airplane mode when the screen shuts off, disabling any data, and then it turns data back on when you unlock the screen this helped very much with battery draining and at the end of an 8 hour work shift I still had 70% battery, but without data you can't receive calls, which sucks.
This battery drainage or bleed while the handset is not even being used needs to be fixed. And isn't it false advertising since the G2x specs indicate standby time is 400 hours?
Just wondering how is the battery life on this phone, had the chance to play with it @ a tmo store for a good 1 hour and its an awesome device ran benchmark on it and it scored really good, I was suprise it beat the G2 even when I overclock it to 1.42 ghz lol. I really want to know about the Battery life in these dual core smartphones, as I'm tempted to get me a G2x.

It really depends who you ask about it. There are a ton of battery complaints whereas I and many others find the battery life to be exceptional.
I think most of the people complaining about battery life either
A) Haven't performed a factory reset which fixes the phones constant power usage even when idle. OR went into the hidden menu and changed the radio to GSM and WCDMA Auto.
B) Have a defective battery (ie those who say their battery drains even when the phone is powered down)
C) Have unrealistic expectations for battery life all together.
Well on point C, I can say with absolute confidence that this battery is the best I've ever had out of all my smartphones (PPC-6700, Mogul, Touch, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Curve 8330, Bold 9700, Palm Pre CDMA, HTC Hero, Evo, Inspire, and the Samsung Captivate) with me being able to talk for four hours and still have 30% of the battery left and then I can game for another 2 or 3 hours. Most of those phones would have been dead after the phone calls (the Captivate would be close to death, the Curve would be about an hour behind it) let alone having to power such a nice display and high-powered graphics chip.
I tend to think the actual answer is (d) the battery driver is so vastly broken that any reading it gives is essentially fictional. In this case, some people will be happy with their battery life (because their readings are fictionally high) and others will be freaked out (because theirs are fictionally low) but the actual answer is "nobody knows".
This battery outlasting my Vibrant by hours with the same usage pattern isn't at all fictional. Not saying the drivers arent messed up.. But if battery life is as good as it has been for many users already it can only get better. Either way in its existing state its still better than many android phones.

Not at all convinced that it's accurate - still saw something like a 60% drop in a few minutes, on a brand new battery.
It does seem to help the "stall" problem.

Exactly. If the battery driver reads "0" then it will shut off. That doesn't mean the battery is depleted. This explains why you'll get awesome battery if you clear battery stats on a full charge initially. It aligns the counter with the actual battery.
Mine runs from 8-midnight with some to spare with heavier then normal (thanks xda!) usage.

The G2X has with out a doubt the best battery I have ever had on a smart phone and has been since day one. I never had any battery problems but that might be because since day one I have used SetCPU, rooted my device and froze all of the bloatware including WiFi calling. I constantly get about 15 hours with moderate use and 8 hours with heavy use which includes 1 hour worth of playing games, 1 hour browsing the internet, 1 hour reading all of my RSS, 30 minutes reading Fox news and CNN, 50 text messages, 1 hour of phone calls, 2 hours streaming music or playing my MP3's and about 30 minutes browsing facebook and twitter.

Well I just asked because of the bad review on battery life on tmobile website but I will probably get the phone in august, by than it'll probably have gingerbread. Only thing I don't like about the phone is the lack of hardware keyboard especially because tmo considers it part of the G series which it doesn't fit in, and only god knows I what I would do if this phone had a keyboard to get it LOL I would rob a bank.

I picked up my g2x yesterday.afternoon. Charged it to full at about 7pm, played a little dungeon defenders, web browsing, and I've been on xda for half an hour. 12 hours after unplugged and I'm at 72%. Not too bad, but 6 of those were idle. We'll see how well it does today.

Unless suffering from some issue idle drain is awesome. Afraid not much can be done about the drain during use though besides turning screen brightness down and using wifi instead of 4g.
I pretty much never use wifi anymore because its so damn slow.. but hopefully that will get fixed because with wifi on battery life is just unreal even when in use.

Well I've had my G2x for 14 months and I haven't replaced it yet. If you keep good battery cycles, then it should be good for a long time.

I agree. My wife and I got our G2x's at the same time. She abuses her battery and it shows. She does lots of deep cycles and runs her phone hard till it's hot often. Hers has always been stock while I've been on CM7 with Trinity ELP kernel most of the time. I lose about 1% every 5 hours while idle. About 15% per hour when on long calls or browsing web.
Ours phones/batteries are 10 months old.

When you say turned off, you mean idle right? Better batterystats is an excellent tool to troubleshoot this. It will change your life. S/w much more likely to be the problem than hardware.

No, I mean I power the phone OFF. There is still a battery drain of about 1% every two hours.
When I pull the battery for a few hours and put it back in, no drain.

LOL. You're right. I suppose I was basing my comparison on my daily use vs her daily use. Also my idle drain (at night) vs hers.
Give me some time to run both batteries hard through an identical series of tests.
I was thinking of running Netflix movies till my battery dies. Then swap in her battery
And run the same movies on the same phone till that battery dies too.
I'd like to run the test side-by-side, but other variables would enter the mix. So its gonna take some time...

Don't swap batteries. Android phones calibrate themselves to the battery drain curve of your particular battery in a system file called batterystats.bin. If you swap batteries you'll get wildly inaccurate battery drain readings for a few cycles until it settles down.

It really depends on how you've used your phone and how you've cycled your battery. It also depends on which rom you're running. If you have everything turned on all the time (data, wifi, bluetooth, gps, full brightness) then it's going to cycle and die faster. If you're conservative and plug it in when power is available, monitor overacting apps ofr network usage in particular, turn of wifi/bluetooth/gps when not in use and generally keep brightness at 20% or below (except in bright sun of course) then you'll get a much longer lifespan. Lithium ion batteries degrade over time even if unused. They degrade faster when used, when heated and fastest when heated while being used.
It really depends if you're getting enough battery life for your purposes but these days most people will be fine after a couple of years on most devices with most batteries.
Have had my G2X for 15 months now, still using original battery with no noticeable loss of capacity. I usually make it about 15-18 hours on a charge cycle depending on my usage throughout the day.

I have used this tablet for 2 days now and almost everything works perfect (thanks to latest ota) but there's one thing that is bothering me. Battery life. I had ipad 3 for 2 months but I finally sold it and bought the infinity. Now I know ios sucks on phones AND tablets. But the battery life was amazing. I could use it to browse and for games for 9 hours at least. But on the infinity I am lucky if I get 4 hours browsing. 4 hours sucks on a tablet. But I think that wifi is the problem. I have added 2 pictures were you can see I used the tablet for 1 hour last night then I used it for almost 3 more hours today. Now the battery is at 10%. But I was wondering why the battery uses 62%? On my galaxy nexus wifi is using 5%.
Have I got a faulty unit or is it like this for everyone? If so please let me know fast so I can send it back before it's too late.
Somethings not right there. Tests/reviews done by some major outlets (thinking PC World or Engadget) reported 9 hours of video play over wifi with screen at 50% brightness. iOS has always had good battery life due to their stict contols over the OS, but you should be seeing more then 4 hours. Hell I was at 40% and played WindUp Knight for hours straight last night which takes up much more battery then a movie. I usually don't suggest using task managers, but there is one built in by asus, I'd use it and see if you can kill some processes. Also be mindful which profile is being used. I stick to balanced most of the time and switch to low when the battery starts getting low (24%ish)

Exactly, it all depends on what your doing OP. The movie scenerio in the review doesnt take much juice in that it uses the low power single core. I don't know for sure, but web browsing may require all 4 cores to kick in depending on exactly what your doing. Regardless, your wifi being a big consumer is easy to deal with. Somewhere in the settings is an option that automatically turns wifi off when screen is off.

Well, all i was doing was using chrome... I think it's pretty bad when i cant browse for more then 4 hours on a tablet. I thought it had to do something with WiFi since its using over 62%. I did the same test with my nexus where i i just used chrome and when i looked in battery , wifi only used 10%. Maybe there is a bug with wifi?
Try Battery HD for some averages/estimates.
I tend to get about 9+ hrs of reading, balanced mode, WiFi off, and about 7 hrs of browsing over WiFi (undocked, dock charges me about 2/3 full), but it all drops down drastically for gaming, which is about 4 hrs you mentioned.
If you get 4 hrs of pure browsing, I'd consider re-flashing, wiping data and - if these don't help - returning your device.
Chief Geek's point has much merit, and you could always look at (for example) GreenPower or some other time-/screen-based toggler. They do pretty well, and you do not even lose out anything except direct push functionality. (Does it really matter for 99.9% of mail when it comes in once every 15 or 30 minutes? When it does (when you're buying a house or something), shut down the toggler for the time being and cope with some battery drain, then when the situation has resolved, enable it again.
And try using BetterBatterStats for your statistics -- the main battery stat app Android offers has some quirks to prevent meaningful interpretations of many scenarios. Let that get a few charging/discharging cycles and then look at the stats.

Remember that these are just averages for your device, at least in the beginning.
If you mistreated your battery upon receiving it, it can kill battery life. You are suppose to plug in your asus tablet for at least 8 hours (well beyond the tablet would say the battery is 100%) the first time you get it. This is sound advice for any new Lithium Ion Battery.
Then you can start using it. Letting the battery die at 0% also decrease the life of the Li-Ion battery every time it happens (ignore old sites that say you should do a full discharge cycle every 2 weeks, that was for old Nickel Cadmium batteries).
Juice Defender is typically a phone app but you can run it as well to detect if any background processes are eating up your battery life.
I get almost 10 hours on my TF700 with moderate usage (mix of browsing, video playback, reading, etc.).

All correct -- there is a lot of disinformation going on with batteries (especially regarding the charging cycles, although a single, long, full charge and then draining to zero charge actually helps calibrate the battery indication algorithms in the device). The optimum minimum charge level seems to be about 40% or so I've read.
Juice Defender and Greenpower toggle WiFi on either time- or location-based profiles, and that works on tablets as well. Recommended!
Your phone doesnt actually discharge a battery to zero. The thing with lithium batteries is they maintain voltage untill nearly the end. This is a very large benifit for modern devices. Once the voltage starts to drop the phones circuitry cuts it off and prevents it from powering on with the LVC circuit that checks the battery before allowing phone to power on then immeditately cuts it (first attempting a power down then all out power cut). This happens to protect the battery. So what the phone considers a dead battery is simply an exhausted battery ready for charge. If a lithium is actually dischardged completely it will damage the cell and prevent it from taking a charge. The power being given to it is then converted to heat. The battery then ignites and very very bad things happen such as your house burning down. The point of all that is to point out that discharging your phone to "zero" isn't actually doing any damage past the normal wear and tear on the battery. I buy batteries that cost hundreds for some of my RC hobbies and have learned the hard way about how lithium batteries work. (bypassed LVC and ruined a $80 3S2P pack)

i have actually read that Li-Ion batteries can be used out of the box. Sp i turned on my infinity right away. I put the charger in, but i still used the tablet. It was about 25% when i got it out of the box. So what you're saying is that i have basically ****ed up the battery? If so, then i will return and get a new one. But i dont understand why most people say that you can usre a device with Li-Ion battery staright out of the box without needing to charge it first.

Nothing to add, technical and extensive, but fully correct, sir. I think we may have had a slight misunderstanding, however: my point was that discharging your phone to 'zero' (and as you rightfully point out, that is not an actual fully discharged battery state) is a required step in calibrating most device's algorithms (some devices, such as my SGS2 do not need this because of advanced hardware). I'd rather not fully discharge any Li-Ion batteries either.

A typical case of RTFM, an affliction I sometimes suffer from as well, as do most men. Hahaha! Do you think ASUS put it in the manual for laughs, or just to give you a few more hours of painful desire to use your device while you cannot, yet? Nah, it's there for a reason. Sometimes, though -- and again that's SGS2 experience -- just running a few battery cycles might make the readout correspond to the actual battery level again. You could at least give it a try, right?

I see the same picture here. Looking at the battery stats I see WIFI using >90% of the battery when surfing in balanced/50% backligt mode.
Hope they fix this.
First off, yes I realize that complaints about the Skyrocket battery are very common, and coming from a Nexus One I'm no stranger to the nightly charging, but I feel like my phone may have a real issue with proper battery management. For example, I'm looking at my phone now. It's been on for 4hrs 43 mins and is down to 73%. Screen is 61% usage and then the typical other stuff below it. For the record the screen has been on for MAYBE 20 minutes total for answering texts and checking Facebook/twitter updates. I should also note that I am using the Galaxy Nexus extended battery. I feel like every time I turn on the screen I lose 1-3% of battery. For the record, I've tried multiple Roms (Stock, SuperStock, NexusMod, Sky ICS, and running CM9 RC2 currently) and multiple radios (running RUXLF3 currently). I've tried underclocking my CPU with SetCPU and that doesn't seem to help. I just installed JuiceDefender but I don't see that doing much as I can't really turn off data with the screen off because I'm connected to my company's email (refreshes automatically every hour.) The only stuff I get pushed to me is Gmail (and I consider a very busy email day to be 5 emails in a given day). I don't get Twitter or Facebook updates sent to my phone. And yes I have Wifi/BT/GPS off as I don't need them. I'm not in an LTE market and thus am using HSPA+. However, when I WAS in an LTE area (NYC and Atlanta) the battery drain was almost to the point where I almost hoped I DIDN'T get LTE in my market if it meant my battery life would be as atrocious as it was.
Within about a 8 hour period it is not uncommon at all to be around 50%, sometimes dipping as low as 30% depending on how boring my day is thus resulting in more FB/Twitter checks than normal. I know that the Galaxy Extended battery isn't going to give me life on par with a Razr MAXX, but the difference I've noticed between the OEM and Extended seem almost negligible. Is this considered "Typical" performance or am I doing something wrong either software/hardware wise? Could I just have a bad phone and try and get it replaced since it's still under 1 year warranty? I'd prefer to not have to do that unless necessary as it means I need to back everything up and then wipe out my data and go back to Stock and reset the flash counter and then do the ICS update via Kies (because I know AT&T will fire back and say "Try out ICS first and then return if that doesn't work!") and all that fun junk.

My thoughts:
1. 50% in 8 hours of moderate use is, imo, not terribly unusual for a Skyrocket without a ton of fine-tuning done to it. The Skyrocket, in general, is not a marathon-runner of a phone. It's better for short sprints, although you can (as I have) make it a marathon runner with extensive tweaking.
2. I haven't tried all the ROMs you've listed, but I can tell you that CM9 on my Captivate and my Skyrocket had severe wakelock issues. My Skyrocket's battery would drain off at twice my usual rate when I tried it, and the ROM prevented my Captivate from sleeping at all (I was lucky to get six hours out of a charge--at best). It's not my favorite ROM for battery life. SkyICS, in my experience, is the absolute best battery life of any ROM.
3. Get rid of JuiceDefender and SetCPU. JuiceDefender works primarily by preventing applications from doing what they want to do. Common sense dictates that when a computer program is unable to do an assigned task because its primary method of doing so is blocked, it will try something else. That "something else" may or may not result in a series of wakelocks. SetCPU is designed for single-core processors. The changes it makes will usually affect only one of the two cores in a Skyrocket's CPU, causing the second core to do weird things. I do, however, recommend using System Tuner. All you need is the free version, because all you need to do is lower your min to 192 and change your governor to ondemand or conservative (I use conservative). You're not forcing new profiles onto the phone's CPU, just giving it a little "attitude adjustment".
4. Get rid of the Facebook app and replace it with Friendcaster. Like, now. The Facebook app uses battery and data even if you tell it not to.
5. Have you downloaded BBS? If so, are you using it to track down your wakelocks? I've got a post inside of the above thread that explains how to do so and, well, explains just about everything else I've already said here or would say if I continued. So, yeah, just read that thread. It's not terribly long, and there's a ton of great info in the OP and throughout.
For reference, I'm a light-to-moderate user of my phone, not as heavy as you by any means. I'm not in an LTE area, which helps. That being said, with the Nexus extended battery, I'm now at 2 days, 5 hours and still at 23% charge. I used the phone very heavily while traveling a couple of days ago, starting at 7:00 AM Eastern at 100% and ending at 11:45 PM Mountain with 11% left, 4h45m of screen-on time.
I just find that odd since I find people giving great stories with the SKY ICS and others in terms of battery life. Ironically, I've found that SKY gave me some of the WORST battery life which really made me feel like a dolt. Here's the latest battery stats attached. Perhaps my view of things is skewed though because my day starts at 6am and I'm at work by 7 (with my phone typically turned on at 6:30) so I still have a good portion of my day left by the time I get home and my phone is typically less than 50% by that time. It's weird to know you have about 7 hours left in your day and your phone is saying like 40% power left.
What's your screen-on time in those screenshots? The frequent wake-ups make me think that you've got some rogue apps syncing when they shouldn't be.
Hello OP, I have exactly the same problems as you except i'm still running stock (rooted with frozen bloat). I tried the Galaxy Nexus Extended Battery and from stock it was more horrible. appox 1 hour less than the stock battery. I did try not using my phone like normal (about 25 mins of screen on time) which was a PITA because mobile internet is my only way to sneak down time while watching my toddler son. The battery lasted 11 hours. With stock battery, I would've lasted around 10 hours. A lot of people say it might be bad battery BUT how can I have such terrible luck to get a bad stock and a bad GNEX ext batt??? lol. So I ordered the qcell 3800mah extended battery and boy I won't be looking back!!!! I am currently still at 25% battery, 17 hours 20 mins with 3 hour 38 mins screen on!! I watched two Naruto episode last night and didn't have to worry about my phone dying while I'm sleeping and end up not getting important calls from husband early in the morning. The hump doesn't look great but it does not bother me when I'm holding the phone and I have small hands. The weight is a little bit on the heavy side but for so much more battery hours, I don't think you'd mind. Now, if you are the type who is always out and can't find sockets all the time, I suggest you try this qcell ext batt. for $20 you can't go wrong. I know you'd hate spending another $20 but trust me the battery works wonders.
On a side note, i also ordered a charger for my standard and GNEX battery from ebay so I can charge them independently if i ever have to go on long long trips and need super juice. That's another $4, takes two weeks to get here from China. There's a hack here in XDA somewhere to make it a really fast charger because it is really a SLOW charger despite what their ad claims.

I just checked and it says 1 hour 4 minutes. There's NO way it's been on that long, or at least not with me looking at it, and I usually turn off my screen when I'm done as opposed to letting it go to time out, which is 60 seconds anyways. I'd say 30 minutes would be it AT MOST.
Is it in your pocket a lot or out of sight

My goal is to avoid the super extended battery because then it means I need to buy a whole new case as well. I'm one of those people that "needs" a protective case because the only reason I have the Skyrocket is because last December my 1 year old took my beloved Nexus One and threw it down 16 flights of stairs. The phone then entered a vegetative coma state and never recovered. I can't have that happen again. So basically I'd have to buy the new phone then buy the new case. I'm trying to spend as little extra money as possible.

well, there are hacks floating around with otter box to fit the hump back. I'm sure you will find other cases from ebay that can be hacked this way too. I don't have this problem since Ii use my phone naked because i only got it for $10.00 and my other line is due for upgrade soon. anyhow, it really depends mostly on what you would rather have, battery life or case. It could be the phone but most likely AT&T will tell you that smartphones consume a lot of energy and if you are not within that 30 day period anymore they'll probably give you a refurbished one and you might end up with a more dud one than the one you already have.

I try to keep my phone out of my pocket because I don't think cell waves near my "area" is a good combination. When I am at work it's on my desk for about 7 hours, and then at home I usually leave it out (at a high elevation away from my daughter of course.)

That's still a little high. I was going to ask if your volume rocker wakes your phone, as that can be a big phantom screen-on culprit, but if your phone's on you desk most of the time...
Download BBS and pin down your wakelocks and alarms (which cause wakelocks) from there. If your phone's not suffering any extreme drain from a rogue app or process, then you might just be at the best you're going to get for your usage.
Have you tried different radios at all? I've heard those can have a minor effect on battery life, depending upon your area.

No but the 4 buttons do as it is a CM9 feature. Honestly though they aren't on for very long as I usually am near my phone and notice such things rather quickly.

I got BBS. It looks informative but I'm not really sure what I should be focusing in terms of statistics and what, if anything should jump out as problematic. Any tips?

I just saw that CM9 has now been officially released in stable form. Maybe that will help. I'll try that ROM now. I hope CM9 is not the issue, as I've always been a "Vanilla Android" kind of guy and I really like how ICS is designed. I never liked how the other ROMS still had touches of Touchwiz in them. I especially don't like how it mimics iOS styles so much. I mean, I'm definitely pro-Samsung in the major lawsuit, but Apple has more than a few valid points in their argument. Having similar icons and a SMS theme that basically mimics iOS isn't going to help Sammy in the big lawsuit.
True, it's a well-known problem. You may find some rom with better battery life (here is the rom I'm using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854). You can also download some apps that save your battery. Try to turn off GPS, Wi-fi and data when you're not using, and also do not keep the brightness of your screen too high. I hope these would be helpful to you.
Check the link in my sig for details on how to really use BBS to improve your battery life. You're not that far off of a normal battery life for moderate to heavy usage, so just tweak it and go from there.

The thing is though is that I don't consider myself to be a moderate to heavy user, but more of a light to moderate. As I said, on a typical day I answer maybe 5-15 text messages, check Facebook/Twitter a handful of times, almost never get emails sent as I have no life, do almost no web browsing, and maybe take a phone call or 2. I very rarely play games and even less often stream media. My gmail is push but that's about it. I also use Touchdown for Exchange but that queries only once an hour. Am I still being unrealistic with my expectations on my battery?
Something definitely seems off, and you may well have a bad battery or even a bad phone. Try to go through and clean everything up in terms of wakelocks and any possible rogue apps. If you're still in bad shape after cleaning up your phone, something seems off. Mobile data does chew up more battery than Wifi, but not THAT much, and especially not in an HSPA area.

I don't think it's a battery issue. I've used the OEM and the Galaxy Nexus extended battery and both are delivering similar performance (although GN is slightly better obviously.) And as I mentioned, when I was in an LTE area my battery was getting beat down like Homer Simpson in a fight with Drederick Tatum.
Would it be advisable to try a FULL wipe of my phone? When I was installing CM9 today I saw the option to format EMMC. Should I try doing that or wiping other stuff or would that just do more bad than good? Should I try wiping that and/or the SD card?
