OK I have been messing around with ADW.Launcher lately and I like it... Kinda...
My only gripe is that when switching between Portrait and landscape mode it stretches Widgets massively because of the strange grid size and it suing all of the screen instead of having a margin space in between the edge of the screen and the icons (like the default launcher)
Am I missing something in this launcher to enact margins? I can only find a margin setting for the app drawer and nothing else. Have the ability to switch between portrait and landscape would be great with this launcher since it has so many options.

You can't mate. It is what it is. I do know there is at least 1 launcher out there that does horizontal scrolling, but I couldn't tell you what it is. I've seen it on here somewhere, so search and check the Android Apps forum.
Adw launcher will, but it feels laggy, touchwiz of course but its not cutomizable
adw ex is nice and does horizontal scrolling. theres some others like aHome and openhome. check em out
this is why i really don't like this launcher. instead.. Go launcher ex its great for changing that... and a lot of things more! really beautiful themes and also fast launcher too!
Hey guys,
I've tried ADW Launcher, Launcher Pro, Zeam Launcher, Launcher 7, Regina 3D, SPB Shell 3D, Android home and LG Home.
After trying all these, I still couldn't find a launcher that satisfies me. The biggest issue is that you can't fit a lot on the same home screen. Of course, you can add more home screens and change the 4x4 layout into more. But, with more home screens, it's hard to remember what is where and when you increase from 4x4 to 5x5 or more, the designs break.
Also, when you fill up the same screen with too many shortcuts(ie when all 16 slots are occupied), it becomes way too cluttered.
Visually pleasing doesn't really mean 3D. It's just the right kind of graphics.
Any solution to it?
i know - it's a really hard choice, as every launcher got it's problems...
i tried ADW Launcher, Launcher Pro and a few months ago i switched to Go Launcher, which - i must say - is my absolute favorite...
The best compromise for me is to sort the apps into categories. Go Launcher, for example, allows you to sort your app shortcuts into folders, then you can put shortcuts to these on your homescreen. I have 8 folders (Games, utilities, web, multimedia etc.) with icons sitting on my first home screen. Tapping one of those brings up a 'mini app drawer' containing a subset of your apps.
You can achieve the same thing with apps such as 'Folder Manager' and 'SIMI Folders' - these also have more customisation options for things like icons and backgrounds.
Is there any Launcher out there that got the feature to change homescreen based on orientation?
I currently have my device locked on Landscape because I feel it looks better and I can fit more stuff on it. But with the same number of columns and rows in Portrait makes everything look bad and squished, if I use less rows and columns in Portrait then most of the apps and widgets are hidden and it still looks bad.
So the best would be to have 2 different homescreens depending on the orientation, I currently use Apex but I couldn't find a feature like that. Sure I could just scroll manually to another screen but that's just annoying and it's easier to lock it to landscape in that case.
sslauncher the original (market link) can do that nicely. It doesn't have XxY layouts, everything is freely arangeable (with guidelines). There's also a free version, which should have the same functionality to try first.
Not exactly what I was looking for, I was looking for the standard launcher but with orientation based homescreens. But this one looks really nice, will try it out for a while thanks.
orientation homescreen
only one i have been able to find is on Cyanogenmod 10.x launcher application name is Trebuchet 1.0

I need to use CM for Trebuchet, my device is not supported so that's not possible.
Also on my old device which was supported I couldn't find that function either, Trebuchet can auto-rotate but you can't set default homescreen depending on rotation.
For example, in Apex Launcher I can set Landscape to have 10x10 grid and potrait to have 5x5, the problem with doing that is that all apps and widgets that are set on a grid that is beyond 5y or 5x will disappear in potrait and everything will look bad.
What I want is to use homescreen number 1 as default for landscape and homescreen number 2 as default for potrait, that way I can make them look good on their own orientation.
The launcher should switch to the correct homescreen when I change orientation. I have tried like 15 launcher and haven't seen this function yet.
Which launcher works best with the Edge? I'm currently using Nova, just wondering what you guys/gals are using or recommend other than TWiz.
I'm using Apex. I like it because it will rotate in landscape mode. Useful for when mounted in the car.
Im using nova
Apex
im using Aviate
I am shuffling between Nova and Toch Wiz
On Nova you dont get the complete edge experience meaning as soon you are on nova launcher the edge screen hides into your customized text screen. Edge screen is only activated once you swipe over it and then when you click anywhere on the main homescreen the edge screen disappears again
Is this happening for all Nova launchers user? does this happen on all 3rd party launchers?
that's been my experience thus far with Nova...............so kind of why I posted this thread, to see which Launcher works best with the Edge panel.
Nova, because I always have and it has great customization for larger devices
NEXT launcher works great on mine!!!
Folks might consider ss launcher. Seems to be working ok on my edge. It is very customizable. Some things I especially like about it is that the applications page scrolls vertically so you can just flick through them, The icons on the screen can be added without grid so you can have as many rows and columns as you like (although you have to take a little time to make sure they line up well). The actual screen size can be expanded vertically so you can scroll up to see hidden stuff that does not initally appear in the window. For example you could stick extra icons, a calander or message widget that you scroll vertically to get to. Also each screen, landscape and portrait can be customized seperately. It's not perfect but and takes a little effort, but, for me it is worth it. Also when you first run it I has a lot of clutter on the screen to indicate some of its capability but all that can be removed so you can design it the way you like.
Apex work fines on my edge.
The problem with all 3rd party launchers is the edge panel which does not activate on its own when you unlock the phone that's only working on TW for now...
I like Nova along with Swapps ... the dock is on the right side and app drawer is on the left side.
It was pointed out in another thread that using a non-TW launcher also prevents the shortcut icons on the edge panel from updating their counts. If that's not a problem, be sure to get your notification counts down to zero, otherwise your icons will always have the number when you switched. I noticed it with my email program, where the edge panel had a different number overlay than the one in the Nova launcher screen. It wasn't until I ran the TW launcher again that the numbers matched up.

Huh. I've used Apex and Flow Home and my icons on the favorites panel still show the correct "unread" or "missed calls" count. Never had an issue here.
Nova launcher working like a champ as usual.

I use Apex Launcher and it works great with the Edge!!!
Hi. I have a butt load of launchers that I've paid for. The Biggest problem is that my 3 favorites all have issues. I have the official Samsung case. It causes Nova to crash once and awhile when opening the case. When I open the case using apex launcher, sometimes it has somehow half a homepage as if it were in midscroll. Adw seems to work but I miss my transparent notification bar. Sticking to touchwiz for now. I kinda forgot to try the oldie launcher pro.
I've been using the Google Now Launcher. I think it's great give it a try, you might like it
Can someone give a little more information on the GoogleNow Launcher, maybe with some screen shots? I've been eyeing both the Nexus 6 and the Note Edge. Love the hardware on the edge, but I love the look and animations of lollipop on the 6. Wasn't sure how well the Google now launcher replicates the smoothness and animations of stock android, and would love some feedback and thoughts!
Running stock(ish) OS on S8+
Got my setup "just so", and needed to change my DPI in Developer Options from default 411 to 514 (=411*1.25) to make use of larger screen real-estate I paid a premium for.
Option to resize the Home & App grids have disappeared, so even though app fonts & icon sizes are closer to what I desire, widgets on home screens look bad - scaled proportionately but padded to take up 125% space
Keeping the DPI & font sizes as-is, is there a way to tweak the grid sizes?
New launcher required
Seems this is an artifact of the launcher & not the "display manager".
Managed to get something approximating the outcome desired by making use of Nova Launcher
