Hello all,
I've read that there is a 2.3.6 update for the AT&T Skyrocket. I don't have this latest update and still have Android version 2.3.5. I also hate the check for update on this phone. Unlike other phones I've had like HTC and on other carriers, I can check for updates anytime I want. Here, I can only check once and it will tell me to check again in 24hrs. WTF???
I keep running it every day but it does not find the OTA update.
My phone is rooted...
Thanks,
--mike
have you read around on the forums? the update was pulled and/or only available to select IMEIs...
there is no OTA update as of this moment. if you want to move to 2.3.6, flash a rom. otherwise, sit tight

I recently purchased my Nexus S.
About a week ago from Best Buy.
It was on 2.3.1, and its been a week and I haven't received OTA, yet.
I have been searching and reading regarding about OTA, and I know
it goes by the IMEI #, and we just have to wait for it.
I do know there is a manual upgrade and it's easy, but I just want to
know if this phone can receive OTA or not.
I have checked in several times and no response of OTA or any sort
of notification, yet.
When I googled regarding about this, there are several, well, more than
several people out there who are in same situation as me, (2.3.1 & no OTA),
Considering that we're on 2.3.3 already, I was expecting to receive
OTA for 2.3.2 already (at least), but now this is starting to make me worry.
Anyone else can ease my mind?
Manual update will be my last solution to this problem, I just want to know
whether I will receive OTA anytime soon..
Also, just one more question I want to add.
Even after if I manually update to 2.3.3, and in the future 2.3.4 comes out,
I will still be able to receive OTA from Google, correct?
Because when I was searching for any case of..
2.3.1 -> 2.3.2 manually, then 2.3.2 -> 2.3.3 OTA, I didn't find any case of that.
If you guys can confirm anything regarding of this matter, it'd help me to just
upgrade my firmware via manual method.
Did you try using the 'checkin' function?
Yes, on my first post, I mentioned that I have checked in several times.
In fact, I checked in at least 2 times a day.
;(
I guess you will have to wait then, though I would recommend you to update manually. Even if you update manually, you still can receive OTAs in future.
Thank you very much for the fast response.
I already had the update file waiting.
Just booted into recovery and updated to 2.3.3
Things are looking good so far.
Glad I could help
Enjoy your new update.
Sorry for the completely n00b question, but is there any way to download and install the official OTA update for the TB (once its released) while I'm running BAMF 1.3.2? Or do I have to update to 1.5? Also: will I receive a notification when the official OTA is available for download, or will I not even know about it because I'm running on a rooted phone?

The official update, when released, will be downloadable online. You won't get the OTA while on Das BAMF as you wouldn't want to; you'd lose root.
Just keep an eye out on the forums and you will get all the updates before they are ever sent out OTA.
well, my worry about downloading the (radio) update with the ROM is the whole rebooting issue that many people seem to have after installing it.
would it better to maybe wait for the official release, download/install that, then regain root again after? That seems like the safest bet to me...

Confirmed on Verizons Twitter feed that the Gingerbread release has been rolling out since the end of August.
Do a 'checkin' (*#*#checkin#*#*) on your phone then Settings > About Phone > System updates. Keep trying if none is found.

You will have to go back to stock before you will even be notified of the update. When I had my droid 1 it took a week after the release before I received the update to 2.2

here is another news story on it.
Anyone updated yet
I have tried on 2 stock roms (rooted) and neither say there is an update available - before going back to stock via the 11 step process, has anyone actually updated their device yet - or am I just not patient enough and the update is actually rolling out slowly and not available manually? Any help is appreciated, since I would hate to blast phones to get the update (i would rather wait on a rooted version, but would love to get a better experience than the current ROM provides!)

I too would rather wait for a rooted version but I'm too excited to use Gingerbread. I will roll back my rom to the original tonight via Moto RSD Lite and then try the update, I will report back if all goes well... or not, hehe.

try *#*#checkin#*# or the other way around, i forgot.
My wife has the D2 Global on vzw. running the orig 2.2 not rooted or bootstrapped.
No update notifications / plus the software update says the phone is up to date.
*#*#2432546#*#*
Checkin works fine, still no update atleast in the Phoenix Metro Cell System.
Just tried checkin as well and no gingerbread love here, either. In Columbus, Ohio. I believe the update is still in it's "soak-test" phase, which means only a select few will actually receive it just yet. My guess is we're sstill a week out from actual release, but don't quote me on it. Only wishful hoping at this point .
Nothing here in NC yet.
Ive tried the *#*#checkin#*#* also no go.
Anyone got it yet? I wish we can find the SBF so we can just flash it ourselves
will being rooted prevent me from getting the update?

If you have a custom ROM on your rooted device then most defiantly. I went back to the original stock using the 11 step process without a problem, but you will most probably have to wipe/factory data to get it to work.
I'm still waiting for the new update though
Root, etc.
Just got a Droid 2 Global from Assurion (brand new) as a replacement for a stolen Droid 2. Pure stock, never been rooted; no update. So those of you with no update don't need to panic over whether you ran Z4ROOT or not; the update is NOT yet here, at least on my phone (California) and it is pure as the driven snow.

I'm pretty sure it would be an update.zip file, not an sbf file, but all the same it would be nice if someone would just copy it to their pc before updating so we could all have it already.
I'm currently running Salvage-Zen rom on my NS4G and so I'm wondering how it will work when the OTA comes next week. Do I need to return to Stock to get it?
Sorry but Ive never had to deal with OTA's on phone running a different rom before.
Unless that ROM runs stock version of the software I wouldn't take the update. However, in time (most likely the next few minutes LOL) most ROMs will update to the new GRJ90 version
BTW, I'm almost sure that if you are unlocked, aka fastboot unlock, the update will not come in. I think that, unlike other phones besides all Nexus, Google checks if the phone is rooted and respects not to update to avoid problems.
I have been searching on the forum and Google but no answer. I had a Sprint Galaxy S3 and it was rooted with custom recovery Clockworkmod. After an update was available I could not install the update, failing with the message "verification failed" when trying to apply the official update file. I couldn't find an answer so I went back to stock recovery.
Now I have a verizon S3 and I would like to back up an image of my phone with clockworkmod but I would like to be able to update, especially with the looming jellybean update coming soon. Did I miss a way to install the updates to the official rom with clockworkmod? Or was it simply not possible.

With most custom Roms...being able to do OTA updates is blocked because it could interfere with the rooted Rom you are running...its more or less a safety feature for that purpose. If you want to get the new Jelly Bean OTA update, you will have to flash your device back to unrooted stock and it should work just fine...as long as ur rooted, you wont be able to, if im not mistaken.
Thats true, and there is the whole bootloader thing! Now that we have all hacked away our bootloaders, the OTA just won't happen. Hopefully an easy relock becomes available for the vzws3 before that update is released, but I wouldn't panic - big red will probably release it to us after everyone else has gotten it and out phones are outdated! In general though, within a week or two of an official large release, the amazing devs on this site will have a downloadable version available for us to manually install.
If you have modded your phone, never try to take a OTA update. At the least you will lose root abilities. At the worst, potential bricking of your device.
Usually before, lol, if not just after a OTA, the devs have working release for our devices.
Take it easy, relax.
