Is there a way to configure the flight mode?
Actually the flight mode turn off GSM signal - wifi - bluetooth
I would like to have the choice of what I turn off (or at least only turn off the cell signal and keep my wifi active)
any idea?
Thanks a lot
Root your phone and install cm7 which has settings to choose when wifi enabled then disable data
CM7 SkyRocket
thanks but CM7 is still in alpha and I rather wait for a stable version

One option: Menu.... Settings... Wireless and networks... Mobile networks... and uncheck "Use Packet Data". This will shut off your data connection. Also, take a look at JuiceDefender Ultimate in the Market.... tons os settings to control WiFi and data automatically.

Thanks but in fact it's not my data connection I want to shut off, it's my voice connection. Where I work I have no signal but they have a good wifi, I use Groove IP to receive and make call with google voice.
I want to be in airplane WITH wifi just to keep my battery

I noticed that if wifi is not available, Polaris connects to GPRS automatically. I want to use only wifi for internet connection, and would like to turn off GPRS leaving wifi working, because GPRS is very costly. Can anyone help?
try this app.
This application can turn off GPRS only if it is already active, I want GPRS/3G to be turned off permanently.
i'm not getting what you mean. U have installed GPRS/EDGE.... settings. If U run this app u see all your connections as ENABLED. U need to select each one and after press TOGGLE button (ENABLED changes to DISABLED). So afterwards device is not able 2 connect thru GPRS/Edge... If u need it from time to time just start app and pres toggle again to enable
settings->connection->connections->advanced->select network
pick the item in the dropdownbox for auto connect network which is not my isp
Easy. After you set up your wifi connection, go to your Comm Manager and switch off Data Connection. Wifi has to be on. If you switch it off, Data Con will come back on.
Basically have your wifi permanently on and all your apps would use that instead of 3G/GPRS.
Edit: Sorry missed the auto connect when 'no network available' point. What Rudegar said is sound.
Is there any known consequences of wifi permanently on?

You mean other than the wifi draining your battery, and as you go around the city always bugging you whith "new network found" dialogs, and having to connect to an unprotected AP every time you want something from the net?
No, not realy
I am leaving the country.
Do I need to remove the sim card or does airplane mode stop all data???
I don't want to have any crazy charges on my next bill.
I just want to use WI-FI when I am gone. If their WI-FI networks are open.
I am leaving in the morning. I do not need to make any calls.

You will get absolutely no radio connection of any kind on airplane mode.

If you want to use wifi you cannot use Airplane mode. Go into Settings, Networks & wireless, Mobile networks and uncheck the "Data enabled" and "Data roaming" boxes. Now it will use Wifi only and the phone will still work also (mobile network data will be completely turned off).

Maybe I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly, if I go Airplane mode, then go into Settings>Networks & Wireless, and turn wifi on, I still get the airplane signal, but can use wifi..
I know this is a stupid question, and I'm actually embarrassed that it's my first.. but, does 4G get turned off automatically when I connect to a WiFi network? I know it maintains a connection to the data network for other services, but what about 4G specifically?
I think I answered my own question.. In the Phone Status info page the "mobile network state" DOES toggle between connected/disconnected based on my wifi status.
Not fully, or servcies such as mms would not work. However you can enable this to happen through Juice Defender, and possibly other applications as well. I fully disable network data with wifi connected through juice defender, only drawback I see is unable to send/rec mms untill you disable wifi, allowing the network connection to estblish itself again.
edit: This is only for the data network portion, voice services can and will still carry over the 4g conenction which is just enhanced 3g
Does it go to a state that uses less power than the "usual" network mode? I'm looking for ways to conserve power while maintaining full functionality. Using Llama and JuiceDefender right now also.
Juice Defender can disable the data portion of the network which saves battery when connected with wifi. In the on the "About" screen in Juice Defender scroll down, there will be an option that says "disable on wifi" under which you can select to disable the network data
I don't have my phone yet, amazon!, but I know we can't turn LTE off. Can we just turn all data off and run off of wifi?
I don't mean airplane mode as in calls and texts would still come in
Yes you can ....click menu settings wireless and networks then mobile networks and uncheck use packet data

I have this setup currently. I use quickshortcut maker LINK from the play store. When you open the app, it default to incremental search. Type in data usage and several results pop up. In there is settings. Under settings, is the 2nd choice called data usage. Choose it, and the next screen lets you try the shortcut you're making. Click it and it should bring up your mobile data screen where you can toggle the data on/off with just one button! PRESTO!!
Enjoy.

Turning mobile data off is not the same as aeroplane mode - your cellular radio is still active and you can send and receive calls and SMS messages.
Assuming the OP really wants no cellular radio, what they need to do is switch on aeroplane mode, and then switch WiFi back on again.

Dave

There's a toggle for it in the drop down menu, or am I missing something?

As I said earlier, you need to switch on aeroplane mode, and then turn Wifi back on again.
You can switch on both Wifi and Bluetooth when aeroplane mode is on.

Dave

Hello. More details please... Why do u want cell data off? If you set up wifi calling and use the preferred call method of wifi calling you don't need to do what your trying to do.
TRY THE FOLLOWING.....
Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
Tap Settings > Connections.
If necessary, slide the Wi-Fi switch right to the ON position.
Tap More connection settings.
Tap Wi-Fi Calling, now Select one of these options:
Wifi preferred
Cellular network preferred
Never use cellular network
Choose never use cellular network, and when u have a wifi connection your phone will use wifi calling not your carrier network.
This is how you do what your trying to accomplish I believe.
