flashing kernel problem - Samsung Infuse 4G

i was trying to flash for the first time my samsung infuse with the serendipity VII rom, so i flashed the kernel with sgs flasher and when the phone rebooted it stuck in the samsung screen and it has been that way for like an hour.. i know that it takes time when you flash the kernel but i think something is wrong.. any suggestion or solution?

What kernel did you flash

Did you flash a froyo kernel or a gingerbread kernel.... S7 is a gingerbread rom so therefore you have flash a gb kernel. Use three finger combo...vol up,vol down and power to boot back into recovery and reflash your rom

Bali 3.3 kernel issues

I tried installing the Bali 3.3 kernel within CWM as the instructions showed, i had been using KG4 Gingerbread. The phone is bricked now after the install. It hangs on the splash screen then vibrates once, then three times, over and over again untill you pull the battery or go back into recovery. Any suggestions?
Is there a procedure to clean everything on the phone for a clean install. Id like to ultimately try the Valhalla GB ROM along with the Bali kenrel on my phone.
Follow my guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
Ill give it a try, does it matter in which order after this i try to install the Bali kernel and valhalla ROM?
Bali doesn't work with any gingerbread ROM. The guide I posted will get you drhonk's custom KG4 kernel with CWM so you can flash CWM roms for GB.
You'll need to install Valhalla on step 11

Ahhhh, good to know.
The main reason i wanted to try this was for the notification light mod it has built in. Are there any ways to get this feature with a gingerbread ROM?
There's no BLN mod for our phones on GB as far as I know. I miss it too =/
+1 on missing BLN.... dam you GB!

You think its worth sticking with the current 2.3.4 without the earlier mods? Im coming from a Nokia E72, and that notification light was one feature i really liked about that phone.
I've been using KH2 without any BLN mod (audiophile ftw) and so far it's been pretty good. It's snappier than any froyo ROM I tried and you can make apps do things like do sound notifications every x minutes instead of having to use BLN. Not a replacement but a fair substitute

Flashing kernals causes boot loops

I just got the Captivate yesterday and I'm in love with it. I've been modding my Backflip for a while and I'm fairly certain I know what I'm doing. I've been trying different ROMs and I've currently settled on a rooted stock 2.2 ROM.
I want to change my kernel though, so I put my phone in download mode and flashed the Galaxian kernel via Odin, it finished and then my phone started boot looping. So I one clicked it and tried again with SGS flasher, boot loop. One click restored, tried with CWM, boot loop.
I've also tried Talon, Speedmod, Setiron and a stock kernel with all 3 methods. Nothing will flash without boot looping.
That kernel is designed for reoriented i-9000 roms

What about all of the other ones that were supposedly for 2.2 ROMs?

It needs to be a true captivate 2.2 kernel a lot are i9000's you just need to read the op for whichever kernel you are looking at thoroughly. 90% of the time the dev states if its an i9000 kernel.
The speed mod kernel here, forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880 SHOULD work just make sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery after install and it should boot.

You will have to read the description in the first post on the kernel you want to install, and the kernel you were installing was a gingerbread kernel

Yeah. You were trying to install a gingerbread kernel on a froyo ROM. That won't work.
Thanks guys! I think I downloaded the wrong version of SpeedMod the first time, it worked this time. Firstly I didn't know that the difference between i-9000 and i897 meant that much. Secondly, I'm not really sure how to read the kernel topics, they're confusing to say the least :S.
I'll learn sooner or later but thanks for your help everyone.

Yeah some are very confusing the biggest help Is to learn the difference in firmware revision codes. Most captivate roms/kernels begin with k. like kh3, kf1 that sort of thing and from what I remember j is for I9000 eg jv1 etc...

Interesting question.
I'm not sure if you will be able just to flash the rom with cwm 5.xxx. I think it may be possible.
However, if you're looking to change your cwm from 5.xxx to 2.xxx, you can just flash one of entropy's dd, the gb infusion kernel or one of bedwa's kernel.
You can do that in DL mode with heimdall or odin or in cwm with one of the packages.
May be to flash the kernel twice.
Ok I'm gonna try the daily driver and see how it goes. Thanks for the input.

Trying to flash a kernel

I am currently running Infused 1.60. In the about section it says Kernel version 2.6.32.9. When I flash another kernel like defuse or community the about section still says 2.6.32.9. Why didn't it change ? I disabled lagfix before flashing. I tried with CWM and odin.
Thanks
Some here what did u use to flash?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900051
If you're on a rooted GB (2.3.6), just flash CM9 and then whatever ICS ROM we have here (just follow the instructions).
sent from me
You need to flash cm9 rom first, the you can flash other ics roms on this forum. Fast this one first, remember to do a factory wipe and system wipe first. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730954
Then flash this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1733097

Flashing from 3.0.2.8 recovery does not work. Make sure the version of your recovery is 5.0.2.x (x being 7 or 8).
So to get to the right cwm flash the new blastoff kernel or AntonX kernel.
