Install as regular app (root not required)
Code:
adb install ApexLauncher.apk
Or you may also copy/download the apk file on your device and install it using Astro etc.
Note: Due to limitations of the Android framework, you won't be able to add widgets from the app drawer without root access. If your device is rooted, please enable the Root Helper via Settings > Advanced settings > Enable Root Helper.
Install as system app (root required)
Code:
adb remount
adb push ApexLauncher.apk /system/app
Or you may also move the APK file to the /system/app directory manually. Make sure you set the file permission properly. To uninstall, please remove ApexLauncher.apk from /system/app manually.
When Apex Launcher is installed as a system app, the Root Helper will be disabled automatically and the in-drawer widgets feature should work without it. If it doesn't, please reboot your device and try again.

Whats the difference between this and Nova?

I will have to give this a shot. Thank you!
Sent from my Droid Incredible 2

I gave it a shot and it appears the icon resizing is an issue. When you turn the grid to 7x7 all the icon labels are cut off.
To answer the earlier question. I don't think Nova has infinite scrolling. I would say they are both pretty smooth. There are a lot of options in this launcher. I'm looking forward to seeing updates.

Does this have notifications for the dock icons ? Reason I deleted Nova after 5min, no notifications for unread texts or missed calls. Other than that I did not notice any difference whatsoever between stock launcher and Nova. I like to run my ROM's as pure stock vanilla as much as I can.
GO Launcher EX has the missed notifications, but GO is not ready for ICS in my opinion, needs a big update.

I'd have to ask the same thing. The feature list looks almost the same? What differentiates this from Nova?

With the 7x7 setting, there is no space for icon labels. Sometimes you may see the text cut off, and we may need to handle that more elegantly by hidding the labels altogether. I also tried Nova on my Galaxy Nexus, and I don't see labels either under 7x7 in portrait mode or any grid size in landscape mode.
Regarding the differences, we have more customization options than Nova. I believe Nova does not have infinite/elastic scrolling yet and it does not support gestures as of the latest version (beta 12). We're working to add more features with future updates.

just installed this launcher.. really nice and smooth. love the features too.

I don't want to use GO Launcher, but might be forced too if its the only launcher with notifications in the dock icons, for missed calls, and unread texts.
I am shocked Google with the big changes in ICS did not include that by default. Its been standard on HTC Sense and Samsung Touchwizz for years.

guess its just a personal preference but i find that badges in the dock are pretty useless when notifications show up in the status bar panel..again its personal preferences.

+1 for having the option to lock/unlock desktop!
(a must when you have kids. i know, they shouldn't be playing with phones...)

I was using ADW EX on my old DInc and loved it for that reason. Tried it on the GNex, but couldn't stay with it because of the lost ICS functionality. Removed it in less than a day.
Sent from my GNex using Tapatalk

App works great I like the infinite scrolling that was the only thing that really made my change from Nova. I would love to see gestures in the dock, cause I got very used to that with go launcher. Also I may not have seen it but does this offer custom dock backgrounds, cause I would love to see that too

Does the launcher have removable search bar (in portrait at least)?
Is it fully compatible with 240dpi?

Dock pages
Is it possible to add a scrollable dock pages like Nova or Go launcher?

Presents: VTL.Launcher v.1.6.5
****This release is now under a NEW PACKAGE NAME and no longer SIGNED DEBUG to prep for Market Release. Please uninstall any version pre 1.6.0 first unless your ROM SHIPPED WITH VTL.LAUNCHER INSTALLED Sorry for making you do that but it is necessary and the new features and options make it worth it!****
***NOT YET HONEYCOMB COMPATIBLE*** the recent 3.1 update has added some new challenges.
This Launcher is designed with landscape tablets in mind! (that's not to say it doesn't also function well in portrait mode..... as it does)
First off this launcher is based on ADW.Launcher's Source code so I would like to thank anderweb for all the ground work. Most ADW Themes will work for VTL.Launcher.
Features Include:
- tablet layout optimized (smaller screens will need to play with desktop layout and dock icon size)
- elastic scrolling
- 3 individually configurable/toggleable scrollable dock bars
- individual controls per dock for background/reflection/visibility/icon size
- icon size for docks can be set different per orientation
- user folders to place shortcuts to apps, bookmarks, contacts, etc.
- icon changing for user folders and apps.
- quick action items menu when long pressing apps, folders and widgets.
- catalogs for organizing apps in the app drawers
- swipe actions on app drawer to navigate catalogs
- uncataloged catalog where new and uncatagorized apps fall
- 1 to 7 homes screens with sense-like previews
- configurable action bindings (swipe up, swipe down, home button)
- long hold uninstall from trashcan
- moveable trashcan location
- hide home screen icon labels
- auto rotate orientation
- system persistence with configurable locked orientation
- widget size spanning
- scrollable widget support
- live wallpaper support
- fullscreen mode
- backup/restore settings
- compatible with "most" ADW Themes
This should work on virtually any device. Though non large screen devices may have issues with the layouts so you will have to play with the desktop column, row numbers, dock sizes etc.
Bug fix 1.6.5 Fixes a layout bug on the docks that messed with alignment.
Bug fix 1.6.4 fixes crash issue on some devices from 1.6.3
New in Version 1.6.3:
-Icon number per dock is now dynamic depending on dock width, orientation and icon spacing.
-Added Settings for Icon Spacing per Dock per Orientation.
-Icons on Dock now have a dynamically set Layout Alignment/Gravity per Dock per Orientation.
-Added Settings for Icon Alignment/Gravity per Dock per Orientation.
-Cleaned up A TON of old code.
-Fix issue with not showing in market for a few tablet models.
The Launcher is FREE here for XDA members. It costs 2.99 on the Android Market and with that you will get automatic updates and support further development.
MOD EDIT: REMOVED LINKS
Just wanted to clarify something in case it wasn't clear. Purchasing on the market only gets you "AUTO" updates.... updates will also be posted here for you to download free.... don't worry.... you guys won't miss out on anything if you don't buy it in the market... just wanted to use the market to get it out to more users. And to those that have or will donate.... THANK YOU! It means so much to see the support the community provides to it's developers and I want to keep supporting you as well!

Enjoy.
Gona give it a go now!
excellent work. im loving it. if i may, is there any chance to have the option of a transparent dock (no fade) and perhaps the option of no reflection in the dock? regardless, this thing is great. it feels a lot faster and smoother than launcher pro.

Those options are definitely doable. After I finish up VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition Beta 1 I will look in to those and more!
I know this is made for the G Tablet, but I love it on my Nook Color.

Great work GoJimi. I've been wanting something like this for a while.
I ended up just removing the dock bar from my ADW EX and putting my 'dock' as just standard short-cuts along the bottom. (saw this idea on another thread).
Downside is that my 'dock' is only on one screen, or I have to replicate it across all screens. This launcher solves that problem.
One request. on ADW EX I can set it to 10 x 10 columns. I think 8x8 is the most supported by this launcher? I have mine set to 10 Columns, 8 Rows.
Can this be added to VTL?
Thanks!

I'll look into it for you..... knew it was only a matter of time before people started asking for EX features... ... just so everyone knows EX isn't open source so any of those features that he has there I would have to figure it out from scratch (not that I am incapable, mind you). Just remember that when asking for EX features that it will be more work for me than just copying over some code so it will take time. Also keep in mind I am trying to keep this as lightweight and functional as possible so some feature requests may be put low on the list. This request is not a major undertaking and may actually get added. All of course "after" I finish up VT.GE B1.

Themes haven't been fully tested yet, but the plan is in place for it to support themes. So Soon.
gojimi, you're a beast...
just cranking out amazing stuff... thanks
i love how i can put the trash can either up or on the bottom since it's just closer to where my hands are. everything is SO customizable... would it be possible for you to add that option to change the placement of the status bar to the bottom as well? i think having the status bar on the bottom would be ideal... again, thanks a lot bro

WOW.. what a great work MAN. hats off. the only thing i hated in previous Xperia S launcher was dock background color which was a nuisance ( allow me to say this as many people wanted a transparent dock) and you DID it Man. 5 ***** . you made my day as this is only using 15 mb ram on my Micromax A90s . i believe that with new editions you will be able to reduce the RAM.

So CM10.1 users have to wait for a CM update to get this? This version seems to have more options than the one I'm already using in CM10.1.

Today's nightly will have the exact same functionality. It was merged last night. I plan to keep them in sync.

Great work.
You should add settings option for maximized lock screen and long press unlock.

Not without a lot of work. The digital clock component is a new feature built into android 4.2.
I will have to back port it for the widget to work on 4.x and then it would only support home screen in any case since earlier versions of Android did not have lock screen widgets.
I'm not sure it is worth the effort to maintain two versions.

thanks for the app, please consider putting it on the Google Play.

I think it would not only support home screen widgets but also lock widgets since both cm and aokp have the option to add all widgets on lock but i don't know in much about the app so your decision is final..

In my unrooted Nexus7 it works like a charm!!
Please consider putting it on the Google Play

This replaces or is alternative to the cronus? Yes, it does. With nice colored icons as well.
Nice to see the updates
But some things like: - Minimized weather widget support (especially handy on lock screen) doesnt work on my mdpi device with this version. I think mdpi layout is not correct.
This is what it looks like actually (v2.0 from OP with minimized setting to enable weather on minimized lockscreen widget)
This is how it should look if im right. (My old v1.0-based Version)
Hope you can fix it for mdpi devices.

Lock screen widgets are supported in Android 4.2.x only, prior versions of Android did not have this ability.

I don't have an MDPI device to test it on so I'm not sure if it is even possible to do it given the reduced number of pixels. I will play with it later this week and see if I can figure out the required dimensions.

Edit: Added the dimens.xml file i used hope this may help you in further developement
Ah... an official standalone, finally! thank you!
Been running AOKP, but I love the cLock (especially over dashclock due to the ability to display multiple calendar events). I've installed a unofficial version, but it's nice knowing this is official, updated one.
BTW... running perfectly on my N4 with AOKP.
Wow, liking this way better than Dashclock! Thanks for your efforts!

***Disclaimer***
This launcher project is a homebrew learning curve for a future in code development.
I am more experienced in reading code than writing code so bare with the timely updates as this project is a learning
experience for me and for developers looking to develop their own launcher to understand how much time a project like this could take up.
This launcher uses the Google Services API to power google plus features and manage cache data stored from the launcher to improve performance.
It also needs permission to access your INTERNAL/EXTERNAL DATA, MAKE CALLS AND ACCESS CONTACT INFORMATION and
I can guarantee your data is safe as nothing is taken of yours.
This data is only needed to allow gestures to work correctly and the launcher to perform accurately, if you don't agree on to this code, than you can leave this room.
I promise your device is safe in my hands.
Cheers!
INTRO
Background Story: I began development on Sapphire UI a little over a year ago, link. It's purpose was to be an all exclusive launcher built based on HTC Sense's firmware (Version 6 at the time) and provide HTC device owners a new approach in managing their applications on their device, provide helpful backdoors to managing their device and information and be built on an innovative user interface based on Sense. Well things were looking great, untill HTC updated to Sense7. I had 2 options; ditch the api for Sense6 that rom devs were using and create my own based on HTCs code for Sense7 using smalli injection methods and maintain the API through firmware updates or convert the launcher to full AOSP and just keep the lock in the manifest for HTC devices. Ultimately, I lost interest all together because an AOSP app exclusively for a Sense rom just looked like crap and maintaining a homebrew sense api insided an app based on firmware that could update at any time was way to much work for me atm soooo, I got some feedback from my legacy users on the google plus group, took a long break and decided to rebuild the launcher exclusively for Android 5 and above adding exclusive features for touch.

Mission Statement
To provide my users with an accurately designed launcher experience for the minimum sdk21 powered devices. This means the launcher is built with the latest targeted sdk (24) and is has the standardized tweaks launchers should contain in the launcher market. This launcher is also Fremium meaning its free but allows users to purchase a license code to null out intrusive donation dialogs (Altho a free product to android users, I would like to get funding for my time so i can go bigger). This launcher is also powered by Google Services to provide exclusive Google Plus Features and a faster performance on AOSP devices. This project has a very friendly community on Google Plus and we would like to keep it that way! This project also has an awesome dev that does give aways, one on one time with users to troubleshoot problems and takes request; which is hard to find these days.
Feedback
I enjoy feedback however negative comments keep to yourself. I want a clean thread. If you want to trash talk on Google Plus or Twitter, go for it. I build based on community request and suggestions. What Sapphire is today is based on this awesome community at Google Plus.
Updates
I now will be publishing 2 types of updates.

Source Code:
Previously, the plan was to open source the project to community rom devs. Because of the extensive amount of work ive included in this Launcher and several features being forks of obsolete projects on github and a numerious amount of Android Libs included, i fear the source will be abused on kangs so, this project will not be open sourced howevor i will glady share any snibbet code to any developers and developers who would like to contribute or fix something is welcomed as I've had a few contribute in small ways. Community rom devs are welcomed to use Sapphire Launcher in their custom roms with permission from myself. I made this decision because of the numerous developers work being included and the license that protects it.

Attention Users
Sapphire Launcher is no longer receiving major updates. It will continue to receive support updates that will garuntees firmware compatibility, bug fixes and minor adjustments.
A sequel launcher is currently in development and will not recieve a xda developer thread. This launcher project will consume the majority of 2017 and be a premium product of GocalSD. Follow the Google Plus Group for frequent updates and information. Follow me on Twitter for updates as well.
Thankyou for using Sapphire Launcher and supporting my work! Things are about to get interesting in 2017. Sapphire Launcher has always been my bread and butter as a developer, now its time to move onto something bigger and better.
Great launcher!
Thanks! Works very well for alpha!

This reboot project is not just for Sense devices, its for all android 5 devices. The deprecated version was sense exclusive. And that's a negative, with the given resources anyway. Prism can be installed on aosp devices yes, but devs outside of htc do not have the resources to build a sense powered app for non-sense powered devices. You can create built in resources to run a sense interface but its way to much work.

So I always have to download manually, or do you can add an Updater later?
Maybe you create a separated topic for all that?

For now as i mention updates are available, use the manual update preference. I am currently looking into an ota update function untill i roll this into google play but its not working correctly atm.

This week, im going to focus on a few things that are of priority.
-Materialize custom shortcut activity
-Revamp Launcher preferences
-Gesture Support
-Replace Google licensed material
Getting you the updates is a priority so, Im going to be focused on readying this launcher for its re-launch on google play so i dont have to worry about making an ota method prior to google play launch. Just need to remove Google stock graphics and items licensed for their products only.
Remember, I do post alot of previews on the google plus group and ask alot of questions and post over their for feedback.

You mean link it to a hardware or softkey menu button? I could but not many devices have that unless it has a custom navbar.

Working with qsb bar this weekend. The google search bar widget is something of the google now launcher so im taking a ADT approach. Those of you who have android tv may notice the search bar looks similar to your interface. Going to be adding another FAB menu button to access other goodies that doesnt instruct our workspace view

Hey man.
Need help with translating? I'll translate your app to French. Gimme the strings if you're interested
This might appear in the nightly tonight. Make sure its running for you.
Header card now is your Google Plus card. Shows just your name in the Dashboard. May grab profile banner picture for drawer background. Going to be implementing Google Plus here soon.

Ultra HD is a very good similar app. You can have some inspiration...
Will test yours too

Thanks, let me know what you think. There will be many more wallpapers/videos to choose from. I don't have ads in any of my apps as I find them quite annoying, especially when they're all over the place like some apps. Some of the wallpapers will be paid, one already is in beta for testing. Link to Ultra HD? Can't find it.

Interesting. UltraHD and ScreensPro both look very similar, one somehow copied the other. ScreensPro is filled with ads all over the place, UltraHD looks decent at least. However, I think our goals are a little bit different. If you notice, their videos are pretty short loops, and I'm not convinced they're even 1080p (at least with the source also being 1080p). They also crop and zoom in landscape.
Indeed, short loops.
But, after all, there are some (not that much) free videos that are really good.
I'd rather nature and landscaping ones

Came here after reading at xda feeds page. Nice concept, will try and report.
@Flyview Congrats on the new app and on the portal article. I'm curious about how the impact on battery is kept minimal. Thanks
Neat app! I love it!
If you could give us the specs and process you use for adding videos, perhaps us users can generate some for you to include in the app.
this is really nice
Thanks guys, a final version will be released soon.

Came here via r/android post. This is pretty neat. I'm testing out the fire background. I'm curious to see how minimal the battery drain will be. I usually use weatherback overlay on my wallpaper, that's taking a backseat to your app now
A waterfall type video would be bad ass. Would love to help generate same videos.
Keep up the good work, working flawlessly on 6P.
This is super duper cool. Well done, OP.
A sports car video wallpaper will be cool. IMO, a slo mo spinning wheel close up of of some luxury cars.
Hi,
Currently working on OnePlus One running Sultanxda's Unofficial CyanogenMod 12.1
Thanks for the nice wallpapers. Though it might be a pipe dream, I'd really like to be able to set my own videos as wallpapers one day.
