[Q] Sky ICS - SMS Time problem: Fix still needed ? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi all,
Yesterday I've installed the SkyRocket Ice Cream Sandwich following all the steps.
I've also installed the MMs Time Stamp fix.
From the market, SMS Time fix has been installed because there were 5 hours missing from receiving SMS...
Everything was going perfect. My SMS timestamp was perfect too.
This morning, 5 hours were added to my received sms....
So I've desinstalled the SMA Time fix installed from the Market and now everything is ok.
What could cause that ?
Another quick NOOBS question:
I've installed ICS... In my about section, I could see:
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.11+
Android Version: 2.3.6
When people talks about Ice Cream Sandwich, they talk about Android version 4.0 .
I'd like to know if this version is a real '4.0' ICS Android OS is it a 'look like' ICS ?
Thanks,
Punky

Thanks for the answers....
I already knew that ICS is not available for our phone..... I would have install it !
I should have asked it this way: Is the Android version we have installed is doing the same job as the 4.0 at the OS level .....
For the SMS issue.... this morning, I had to reinforce it and add 5 hours to the incoming sms....

[Q] update from android v2.3 to v3

Hey guys
first thx for helping, im thinking about buying the Experia Arc with the androod 2.3 installed but im kinda afraid cuz very soon the android 3 will come out so i want to ask ya is it possible to update the 2.3 to the new version ?
cheers
3.0 is not available for phones, it's tablet only. 3.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich) was only announced today, and won't be released until October at the earliest, so no one is going to have any information on porting it to any device at this point.

Actually 3.1 is an update to Honeycomb which is soon to be released to the Xoom. Ice Cream Sandwich is 2.4 which includes mixed features from Honeycomb and Gingerbread. Also Honeycomb has been ported to some devices. I got one to work on the HTC Hero, although every port lacks almost every feature because it is from the SDK image and not source as source has yet to be released.

thanks for your replays,
but still whenever the new version come out will i be able to update my Os ? used to have X1 before and to put an official 6.5 was a pain so is it the same with android ? or i can always update to the latest version
thanks again
The Cm7 development tree is gradually incorporating ice cream/honeycomb features into 2.3.4 with "tablet tweaks" while we're all waiting for aosp. Not very many options currently exist besides moving the status bar to the bottom, but the soft buttons are being merged now and most devices currently have 3.0 ports that just need the actual source to be released now to get things like phone.apk and wifi drivers working. I wouldn't be surprised to see a rom dev have a fully working port for the arc the day after google releases the 3.0/2.4 aosp, so I would base your buying decision on the performance of the arc compared to other 2.3 devices currently out or being released this summer.

Upgrading the Android OS is always going to be 'hard' if it is not an official upgrade by the distributors of your given phone. If you are rooted, which for some phones is a difficult process, you can upgrade, albeit that it's not official for your phone.

From what Sony is announcing you will get the update to whichever version of Android is available past version 2.3 faster than they have released updates in the past. If this is true don't worry so much about the version of Android you're running since 2.3 is actually a very much complete package (in my opinion) and you can also say the same for version 2.2. Anything 2.1 and below is not even worth considering.

Galaxy Sl i9003 2.3.5 Update {notice}

Samsung Italy announced that the Samsung update for Galaxy S i9003 Gingerbread to Android will be delayed. The motivation is clear: To avoid delays in updating to version 2.3.5, we have chosen to update the terminal S Galaxy Super Clear LCD (I9003) directly to the latter version of firmware. So still waiting to see the final distribution on this Android smartphone although the consolation would be to have the version 2.3.5 instead of 2.3.4.

Who cares! I think, like we port themes and ROMs we can try to port the 4.0 from SGS or SGSII,rrahigt?

It is that easy...It is not easy as porting rom or themes..If it is that easy then why that time when our device only support Froyo, why no devs port gingerbread to our device before official release?
In CM7 also we found difficulties to port it and fix the bugs...it is not easy and need many efforts and experience devs to work on it.Sad to say that our communities also lack of experience devs like skin and amit..
*Just my opinion..
We can try it! I think it is useless. Before dropping into conclusion, I think, we must have atleast some hopes. Galaxy ace,Fit and 5 are gonna get the update, so why not SL? We will obviously get it. If we don't the Asia-pacific team of users in gonna get on the nerve of Sammy!
y android 4.0 or even if there is any android 5.0 if we have all the features available in 2.3.4
if we have tv out and usb otg i wont even bother which version we r usin ..
Final distribution? Sigh. It's not even an old phone. That's pretty annoying.
NIce info !
idiot samsung that the rom I want is 4.0 not 2.3.5!!!
hmm samsung galaxy s is still getting the newer updates from samsung

Nobody knows if there is an update for I9003 or not. These are all speculations.. Even Samfirmware.com don´t know it exactly!
BTW, what do you expect from Gingerbread 2.3.5 or Ice Cream Sandwich?
In 2.3.5 there are only Bugfixes and closed security gaps. ICS is only fusion of Tablet-Android and Smartphone-Android.
Really new features will only come with Jelly Bean (that´s android version after ICS) and I´m sure neither the Galaxy S or the Galaxy SLC will gain an update to this version

The 2.3.5 update is important because it fixes at least a security vulnerability in the browser, which may affect you even if you don't use the stock one.
Time to Troll Sammy Big-Time?

yesterday i update my (s5570) android version 2.2.1 to android 2.3.4..
so,can i update 2.3.4 to android 4.0 ice cream sandwich ??

Every device is different, but there are very few devices that have ICS right now.
I'm not sure on your device, but most likely it doesn't have it.
So, i am sorry, but no. You can't upgrade to ICS :-(

Moving to Q&A
Yep, thats true - if anyone makes a port for your device you could use ICS on your phone, or you try to port it on your own

Will the real ICS be needed for current awesoem ROMs?

I'm about to install the ICS 2.3.6... I realize it is more like an ICS emulator than the real ICS that was released (correct me if I am wrong)... now since there is all this rave about the real ICS, provided I did install the new ROM (still new to the ROM procedures so please help me understand):
1. Should/Can I launch the new ICS update (whenever it comes out)?
2. If and after I should/do, are all the procedures for installing all current ROMS still in place, i.e., after running the official ICS update, and I still like the custom ROM better, is the process exactly the same? I am thinking this is analogous to installing Vista to an XP and then going back to XP without a problem as long as the drive is formatted.
Thanks!
You wont be able to do the over the air update to the offical ICS since you are running a custom rom. You could however probably revert to your original rom and update that way (if you backed up your original stock rom). But after the ICS comes out it wont take long before people on this forum have ripped out all the garbage that came with samsung ICS and you will get a better product anyway.
there is no ice cream sandwich just yet for this phone, the rom your referring to i believe is seanzscreams ice cream sandwich rom which is gingerbread 2.3.5, themed to look like ice cream sandwich, and your going to have to revert to stock in order to do the OTA update when its released.....most likely towards the end of Q1
---------- Post added at 05:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:40 PM ----------
also i highly doubt your going to want to flash back to gingerbread when ice cream sandwich is launched for the phone, im currently running it on my test device the Samsung Captivate and its sweeeeeettt!!
Ya ya definitely.. the funny part is, once I install the new ROM here, even when ICS comes out, it'll be like, I'll wait for the new ROMs based on the real ICS... kinda makes me feel like I will miss out on the "genuine" ICS, but, maybe NOT, LOL...

[Q] A Few Bugs Still ICS 4.0.4 ??

Hello from rainy England,
Like everyone else here i am very Impatiently awaiting the release of Jellybean 4.11 on my Galaxy Tab 2 P5110, I'm not sure why I'm Waiting this device has no GSM Module or carrier and 4.12 is already being rolled out. maybe we should petition Samsung ! ( /rant over )
Anyways i seem to still have two bugs on ICS 4.04 i wonder if anyone could advise me how to squash or work around.
1. When i turn off the touchscreen sounds they seem to return after a reboot ( does off not mean off? )
2. My talk pictures seems to disappear after a reboot or the talk messenger has been disconnected.
Can anybody advise my on these issues
Thanks
Colin
Just install a rom, any AOSP ICS or JB rom. You can use my guide (link in my signature) for instructions and links. If you want rock solid stability, go with Teamhacksung CM10.
