[Q] Is it possible to replace Rosie launcher and keep Sense widgets? - HTC Sensation

Read somewhere you could replace the Rosie.apk file in system/apps with the apk of choice (ICS 4.0 Launcher in this case).
I tried this and it didn't yield positive results.
Essentially only doing this because I'd like a dock bar with 5 apps instead of the crappy "apps - phone - personalize" on Sense 3.0.
Also not willing to use ARHD 6.0.x as my everyday rom so would like a way to get a new launcher and dock bar but keep the sense widgets.
I know it's a big ask, but hopefully someone can help.

Please, one at a time

Sense widgets require Rosie to run. It's been this way since sense on android was released.

Bummer. Will just have to wait for 6.0.x to get stable enough!
Thanks for the answer

can we have black menu pop ups like in stock GB ?

i really like the pop ups which come after you press menu in stock gingerbread (cuz they are black) now heres the question, can we have those in desire S without rooting it ? maybe adw launcher themes can do that as well ?
thx
You can have these with root, but without it I think we could have it as a part of theme from Sense 2.1...it depends how deep the theme goes... I'd ask that in the original desire forum where they managed to port sense 2.1 and are actively creating themes
You can install launcher pro or adw launcher to have it back again.

[Q] Launchers and sense interaction

I dont like using rom sense removers as i like being able to go back if i wanted.
What i wanted to know is if when i am using go launcher in preference to the sense ui if the sense ui will still run the background and infact be using up my phones resources or if it directly disables it?
many thanks as always all
Yes it will still be on the background, as to how much it uses in the way of resources though I don't know
The UI always runs. It's what you see...the launcher will close while using another launcher, but you can switch back with ease.
Don't worry too much about resources. Sense uses more than AOSP obviously, but the launcher itself used about the same as ADW EX for me.
cheers guys

Compatibility, Sense Apps W/Cyanogenmod

Howdi Folks
What is the chance of FC on apps from sense being on Cyanogenmod (Torch, Friend Stream etc to replace the Lockscreen)?
I have the feeling Rosie Stuff & Sense Framework Would Be Required?
Also In theory what is the difference between Odex & Apks?
Torch is included in cm and the rest will not work period without the sense framework. In other words if u want sense apps and lock screens flash a sense rom as cm is aosp. That or learn how to port the things u want from cm to a sense rom. Adding sense to aosp is exactly what HTC does when they build sense roms so doing it yourself would be pointless.

Yeap. Simple fact is sense apps wont work without the sense framework.
Theres some decent clones though. Like launcher pro's friends widget etc.

Is there a Rosie.apk mod for 4x5 homescreen on Sense 4.1?

Iwas not a fan of HTC Sense before, but I love the new version. What really bothers me though, is all the wasted blank space on my 4x4 homescreen, plus it looks really weird.
I have searched the forum, and have not found any Rosie.apk 4x5 mod for HTC Sense 4.1 on the One S. I have tried a few made for other phones, but no luck.
I then followed the guide to decompile rosie.apk, made the right edits, recompiled it, but my modded apk does not work.
Would a kind soul be able to this for me?
Would like this, too
I'd like to see this as well. *fingers crossed*

I've found a mod in the sensation thread and works on viper, but the 4x4 widgets don't look good

This.. so much this. Preferably as a universal Mod for any Sense ROM. The weird wasted space almost makes me want to use a different launcher on top of Sense instead.
ilboapie: how did you get that zip to install, both versions failed in TWRP.
Also, an AOSP style Dialer / Contacts for Sense would be great as well.

Sense for an AOSP ROM??

I dont know if this is at all possible without theming but I was curious if you could get the sense 4+ on an aosp rom. Maybe not all the extra apps like the music and messaging and camera but the lockscreen and the widgets. I have tried all sorts of stuff with go launcher and beautiful widgets but they just don't do it justice. Is there a way to port this???? Has it already been done?

First of all, this should be in the Q&A section. Secondly, the closest you will get is a modded Sense ROM. I jumped ship from sense as fast as I could so I don't really follow the news, but I have heard that Viper ROM is the most AOSP-like Sense ROM.
No... Certain aspects or sense rely on the sense launcher... Like the clock...idk about the lockscreen...but mostly everything else is a no go on a diff launcher
Sense is very heavily tied into the framework. Ports are possible, like when I had a captivate there was a sense port but it was extremely unstable. It's just not worth the hassle really

you could always use a senseless rom so you could have other launchers but have sense lockscreen still
Go with Viper rom, use Apex or Nova launchers. You will have an Aosp style launcher while still maintaining the lockscreens, and HD Widgets will look just like sense.

In my experience all third-party launchers introduce a notable lag (compared to Rosie) when opening home screens, app drawer, etc. And this is with all possible animations and other eye candy turned off. Seems that as long as Sense is running in the background you have to go through an extra layer to get to the Launcher.
