Flashing superatmos kernel onto I9100g - General Questions and Answers

Hey I'm thinking of flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369977 onto my I9100g, but before I try, I've got a question.
Does the firmware I'm on affect whether it's compatible or not? If it does affect it do I just update through Kies?
Thanks

Its compatible with kj2 and ki1.... new kernel has been released - v2.2..
Mine firmware is xwkj2... and its fully compatible
Use superatmos v2.1 bcoz newly released version 2.2 offers no vibration mode and CWM manager doesnt get installed well.
However it offers u cwm recovery version 5.0.2.7 which works well. i shifted back to superatmos v 2.1

i've flashed v.2.2 for KK1 firmware but after flashing i've got yellow triangle. now how can i remove the triangle without using jig as i think i could not find here in my place.
my aim is to root and have cwm to be able to flash version 3 of superrom.

[Q] Install security update on Rooted phone

HTC has released an OTA security update with a size of around 9 MB but since my phone is rooted and CWModded I get the triangle with Android icon on installation. How do i get it to install?
I am currently on 1.45 stock firmware (2.3.4 core) and this update has probably to do with the problematic permissions of HTC's apps that came to light some days ago

does that have to be done for every update? or are they included with flashed roms?
is it possible to flash it via cwm somehow?
*edit*
nvm i already flashed/reflashed stock recovery and updated
cheers
Found an easier way
Got the instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15546045&postcount=10
Tried it and works perfectly without restoring-reinstalling CW recovery.

i9023 2.3.3 to 4.0.3 ?

Hello,
I just recently got my Nexus S and now I want to Update it manually to 4.0.3.
It came with Gingerbread 2.3.3 and now I have some questions about this whole process.
1.Is it possible to directly upgrade from 2.3.3 to 4.0.3?
2. Of course I'm not that lazy and I found the files needed around here, but I still have some questions about it.
I found these files:
Code:
Android 4.0.3/IML74K/XXKI1 Radio/KL1 Bootloader
Official, signed, can flash with ClockworkMod or stock recovery. Contains recovery, radio and bootloader.
What exactly mean these words in relation to Android: "Recovery, Radio and Bootloader"?
Thank you!
hi!
i have the exact same phone as you (i9023 2.3.3) and used the stickied all official OTA flashable updates. my build number was GRI54. scroll down in that thread and u will see i9023 2.3.3. (GRI54) -> 4.0.3. i flashed this with custom recovery.
also keep in mind that for our lcd version.. there are troubles accessing the ics stock recovery as it wouldnt show up on lcd. only for amoled..
u can follow my guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20900004#post20900004 to gain root and install clockworkmod recovery to solve this
There are two ways for you to upgrade manually. The first is to get the 2.3.3 to 4.0.3 update, and the second is to remove 2.3.3 and install 4.0.3 in its entirety. You won't need an unlocked bootloader or root to do these. Fairly straight forward.
As for the second question, it tells you what partitions are included. That file will replace the current partition. Radio is for the GSM radio (or cdma for 4g) to get your carriers reception, bootloader includes the main booting files and recovery is the recovery menu where you'll be flashing pics from.
I've also bought a Nexus S recently (on 30th december) and it also came with 2.3.3. What I did was to unlock the bootloader and then via fastboot I flashed clockworkmod 5. Then I flashed via CWM the 4.0.3 update. AFAIK you can do the update without custom recovery but on i9023 the stock recovery doesn't show up.
That's right blackdeath, but it only doesn't show up once you've flashed 4.0.3. So you can see it fine while you're currently on the 2.x.x bootloader.
What's the difference between these 2 files (ICS stock): ZD3PyN0t.zip & VQ8PQk_V.zip ?

Z...zip is the full ROM package whilst VQ...zip is the OTA for 2.3.6.

Thanks! But what would be the difference exactly?
If properly applied: in the end = nothing, both will give u 4.0.3
One (full rom) just is applicable from everywhere and does a full clean install (i.e removes everything than puts 4.0.3 in place)
The second (V..) is the update from 2.3.6, meaning ONLY applicable from 2.3.6 and just updates the OS. (basicly modifies the existing OS)
Basicly the V... is what you'd expect to get over the air.
but only apply it from 2.3.6! (you'll need to apply the incremental updates to 2.3.6 first)

Thank you very much!
Allright, thank you for the replies, I feel much safer now!
(It really annoys me that I didn't knew that Radio can mean Carrier-Information/Software)
I knew that the recovery in 4.0.3 does not SEEM to work because actually just the LCD backlight does not turn on so if you use a flashlight in the right angle you should be able to see the recovery menu.
(Couldn't confirm yet but read it quite a lot.)
Well I guess ICS + Clockwork it is then. Wish me luck.
EDIT: Well this was easier than expected, actuallly easier than flashing a PSP. Im already on ICS now I just need to follow the root/recovery guide by cspader. Thank you.

[Q] Help with installing roms from stock

Hey guys,
I'm relatively new to playing with Android roms, and currently have a HTC Sensation.
I've worked out the kernel that I want to use (SebastianFM Overclocked kernal), the rom that I want to use (AndroidRevolta - slimmed down Virtuous Inquisition) but I wondering about the firmware. My phone is current unrooted, running stock ICS. Do I need to upgrade the firmware before I can flash this rom?
Thanks
to install another rom firstly you have to be rooted
secondly if you want to flash a firmware manually you have to be S-OFF
now about the rom you want to use i think as far as i know requires the latest firmware

Yeah, I know that it needs to be rooted first.
I've just seen things that say you need the latest firmware to run ICS, and I wasn't sure if that came with the offical ICS update.

Yes. Firmware is updated with latest ICS update.
If you have latest ICS update then you dont need to flash firmware again.

Is the firmware flash only for phones that don't have an offical ICS update?
So I can just root, install CWM and flash kernal and rom?

How to update an Verizon one M8

Hi all
I have a verizon one m8 which runs stock 4.4.2 it is rooted, s-offed by sunshine and has TWRP recovery.
The LTE bands are open but when there is an available LTE network there are some network problems and many disconnections occur. (mainly when entering the LTE area)
I tried some various fixes but nothing worked so I want to update to a customized lollipop firmware.
I did search a -lot but didn't find what are the steps to update.
Can anyone guide or direct me please?
Huge Thanks
Parnuk
If you are just looking to update the firmware here is a link for you. If I were you I would consider a newer ROM to go along with the new firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159
thanks!
Some more questions please :
Can my current Rom run with this newer firmware?
Will it still be rooted?
What are the chances to get bricked
To get a newer Rom, should I wipe and then install it from twrp after the firmware update?
last one: this all has nothing to do with the recovery, right?
Sorry for the nooobity, it's all so different comparing to my old SGS

Great, the latest twrp didn't work on my current firmware.

You can but the chances of something going wrong are higher. Flash TWRP with fastboot, then firmware with fastboot, then ROM with TWRP is your best bet.

Help updating my rooted device.

This is what is installed on my device: TWRP 3.0.2-3 / android 6.01 (I THINK it's a bit modified rom) / SM-G930FD
I rooted asap I bought it few years ago, I want to update to the latest Nougat version 7.0.0 (I think the 7.1.2 is not officially released, right?)
All I need is stock (slightly modified is also ok) + root and don't mind formatting it to start from the scratch.
What are my options and/or what should I do? Thanks for reading!
Flash the latest stock ROM with Odin, then root.

Thanks for the reply.
Can't the TWRP do the same thing? If I flash using the Odin, will I lose the TWRP?
You need to use Odin to flash a stock ROM which will cause you to lose root and twrp.

Could you tell me which ones should I use? What do you think about the smartswtich?

I recommend matching the ROM to the original carrier.

It's an international unlocked version, does it have a "carrier"? How do I find it? I'm located in Japan and imported this phone.
You can install the Samsung Phone Info app from the Play Store to find out the csc and match that to the ROM.
