Flashing ROM and radios are two different things. One does not interfere with the other. So if you've flashed latest radio you shouldn't reflash ROM
Let us know some details:
1. How do you flash ROMs? Full wipe, only cache/dalvik, etc?
2. Have you checked the WiFi advanced settings to have the band set to "Auto" or "2.5 GHz"? Not al routers/APs support 5 GHz WiFi band
3. After flashing ROMs are you restoring something with Titanium? For first you shouldn't...maybe there are some incompatibilities.
Try also with this radio instead 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20 (it's the previous one not latest). For me it's working better than with the latest.
After flashing radio, remain in Recovery and from "format/wipe" menu select to format all partitions (complete wipe without sdcard), then flash the ROM. I suggest for the beginning to choose Virtuous RC1 (latest) or CM9 and see if WiFi works...you can wipe again and flash MIUI after. Do not restore anything with Titanium backup after flashing the ROM. Just boot and set your WiFi access point. Check if it connects. Alternatively download WiFi Analyzer tool from HERE (it's not latest version but if you don't have Internet access on phone you can't download from market, so it's a good thing that you can manually download the APK and put it on your sdcard). Check and see with the tool if you can gain extra info on the networks in your proximity

I have the same problem... Problem is that I cannot switch on wifi (problem is not with connecting)
Virtuous Beta9 - I can switch on wifi and connect
RC1, RC2, miui... I cannot... so strange...
(bootloader unlocked with htcdev, s-on, the same radio as ayene, wipe all...)
I cannot flash previous radio... still have the latest one. I think problem is with htcdev unlocking and s-on...

1. I always use full wipe
2. miui wifi dont have advanced setting
3. I dont restor any thing. the first thing i do is cheking wifi
I will do other solution u saye to see if it work
tnx
I do this things too
1. Full wipe and flash Virtuous Quattro RC2 rom and without any restor or install apps it dont work
2. i flash the 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20 radio so it dont work
3. i chek other band in advanced wifi but it dont work
4. install wifi analyzer and turn on wifi and open the wifi analyzer. nothing happend. but if i turn off wifi and open the app it say "the app needs Wi-Fi to work. so it is different between switch on and off wifi. but no network found.

That's weird...try to take a logcat and post it here.
When going to WiFi settings and try to activate it, what does it say? Usually is something like "connecting", then "Authenticating...", then "Acquiring IP address from ...". Are any of these steps showing?
By "not work" you mean WiFi is not activated or you have it active but not connected to any network (you said that in some ROMs is activated and in some not)? How's on Virtuous? If you are in WiFi settings and wifi is not activated, what happens when you repeatedly press on/off?

Rapier:
my problem is, that in Virtuous B9 I can activate wifi, but in RC1, RC2 I cannot activate wifi... Button ON is greyed... nothing happened after I pressed On/OFF, cannot switch on..
Virtuous B9 no problem with activate, connecting...

And I dont install Virtuous B9 but for ex in MIUI 4 when i turn on the wifi , it says enabling and will stay on it. if I go out and come into the wifi again there is no enabling and it seem wifi is on. but when I press scan , no network will be find.
soory for bad english

AYENE: yes, I have same problem... I cannot activate wifi in miui 4 rom (frozen "enabling"), CM9, virtuos quattro rc 1, rc 2 (inactive button)...
BUT try virtuous beta9... it is working fine... (but camera doesn`t in this release...)

A have a same problem but i can use only virtuos quatro beta 3 :-(

[Q] Desire S loosing signal

Hi all,
A week ago I bought a brand new Desire S and installed latest CM 7.1 stable following the guide on cyanogemod Desire S Wiki using revolutionary 0.4pre4. Everything was smooth and nice, I flashed ROM and GAPPS and my phone is working absolutely perfectly... but there is one little problem...
I am using Desire to fetch my mails from 2 mailservers using IMAP every 30 mins. But when the phone is switching between network modes i.e. HSDPA -> EDGE or EDGE -> GSM or any other way, I am disconnected from operator network for about 10 seconds until the network mode changes and everything is fine after that, until there is another network mode switch.
This happens for me about 10 times a day, so my phone sometimes appears that It is turned off for people who want to call me. Immediately after connecting to network I get a missed call SMS from my operator.
Interesting thing is, that when I disable email fetching, disable background data transfer and disable network data, the phone works fine without "blackouts".
Can someone help me with this problem? Maybe a radio issue?
Some more info:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 Desire S
Recovery: Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
HBOOT: 6.98.1002
Kernel: 2.6.35.14-cyanogenmod+ [email protected] #1
Radio: 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
There is a newer radio-file online.
Maybe it's solving your problem.
I'm using MIUI and never had such problems, but i'm interested in flashing CM, so please report if the problem is gone by flashing newer radio!
Which radio version are you using?
Today I am testing 2G only switch so I am on EDGE data only.
Flashing radios is safe......, but a bad radio flash will instantly brick your phone.
You are using 1.47.401.4 radio, try updating to the 2.10.401.5 one.
Thanks for reply.
Shoud I flash something else with the radio?
I have 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 downloaded from cmw.22aaf3.com
Another I have is ftom OTA update zip file OTA_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8-1.47.401.4_release_225210fmxlt12djw1sr7y5.zip where is one radio.img in formware.zip file too - version unknown
So Which one to flash?
and if so, which method should I use to flash radio? The Android SDK one or the ZIP + Bootloader one?

Strangely I had the same issues as you on Endymion.
Then I updated radio to the latest.
It worked well.
Then I went to CM7. It was fine for a while, but now I'm losing signal with no 3G bars and its not switching automatically to 2G like it should when It has no 3G signal!
EDIT:
After really reading your post, I realise my issue is no way like yours! Yours seems really bad. Update your radio.

No, the cover is at its place where it should be. Somehow I did the trick and I am back online with 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03 on 2G only for now.
I read somwhere in the forum that ENG HBOOT is required for new radios... Are you sure I dont need to flash eng hboot it before new radio ??

in your area 3g is actually available?
may it helps to go outside, to find your net for the first time!
did you set an accesspoint for 3g?
may you have to set automatic settings, rather than 3g/2g-only?!

using same hboot as you, never had problems on flashing radio-files!
yes, in my area there is 3g, when I turn off 2g only switch there is a problem described in my first post, so i am on 2g for now just to keep phone connected to network.
main problem is when i am driving and the phone is switching network modes.
so I give 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 today another chance, try to flash if again.
but i am woried about stucking on HTC logo after flash :-( and brick it.

i already had the problem for several times, and i also pulled out the battery (you shouldn't do that)!
only had to boot into bootloader, start recovery, wipe all partitions, flash rom and was having fun again with my device
this thread could help you, if really stuck on HTC logo
For your real problem on loosing the signal, did you ever tried out using actual stock rom, or another custom one like MIUI?
i used MIUI from 2010-08 till yesterday, now trying out CM7.1 for some days
I have the same or a very similar problem. I have the stock rom.
I already had 3 different desire s motherboard's and 2 different display's.
The first Desire S i had, with android 2.3.3, had a excellent signal. Due some problems i had, the phone bricked and had to go to HTC to repair.
HTC replaced the motherboard and update the version of the android to 2.3.5 and ever since the signal caption, the signal switch was working very bad.
The phone went to a second repair because of this, new phone, and again with android 2.3.5. The problems persisted.
I also tested with different SIM cards, from different mobile operators.
So, my conclusion is either android 2.3.5 or this new versions of Desire S have problems with signal caption and signal switch.
So as you, i need some help with this issue!

@MyroLM:

I am still testing new radio, but looks good Give me some days let you know...
Hi All,
I have a similar problem with the latest CM7.1 nightly builds (Reaper, jorgen2009). I never saw this with older CM7.1 versions, e.g. Nexx version, ICS, MIUI oder Endymion.
I have WLAN on and leave my house. Phone switches to 2G/3G..., so far so good. When I return home, The WLan sign in the status bar appears again, everything seems to be fine, but I have no connection. I get no data via WLan until I swicth WLan off and on again.
Radio is the latest from 2.10.401.5.
Best Regards
Wrapp
Had similar problems, upgrading to the latest radio helped. I got stuck on the HTC screen and I went through flashing RUU's and unlocking bootloaders back and forth... when the only thing that needs to be done is to wipe the cache.
Learned a lot about bootloaders though. But my warranty got void because i did the htcdev unlock... (Sorry for OT)

Need Help. Have data but no phone signal after screwing up.

Ok, so here is the story of how I screwed up. And the situation
1) I was running firmware 3.33 with viper ... everything was ok
2) Decided to try bruce's CM10... everything ok
3) Copule of days later I decided to flash the old RIL I was using with CM9 + firmware 3.33 and used to work ok.... big fail. Radio stoped working
4 )full wipe, flashed firmware 3.32 and Bruce's latest build... the phone booted ok, but still radio wasn't working
5) full wipe, flashed firmware 3.33 and Bruce's latest build... the phone booted ok, but still radio wasn't working
6) full wipe, flashed viper .... I intermittently get data but no phone signal... WTF?
Before someone asks... yes.. I was always veryfing checksums when flashing different firmwares.
Any Advice?
Is it possible that I broke something? Maybe the SIM card?
what do you think guys? Please Help!
have the same problem, was running ARHD with no problems, then using bruce CM10.
I didnt like it, so i changed back to ARHD.
Now i flashed Viper-Rom, and my Radio is broken
Try flashing a generic ics radio and ril this should help restore your data. I lost data once by flashing a recommended radio for a Rom I was running and I restored my data by flashing a generic ics radio and ril. Fixed this issue for me. You might want to give it a try .I think it will help. Best of luck.

Could i just flash 3.32 and then flash Viper?
what is "ril"?
*#*#4636#*#* on dialer then phone information and verify what network mode is it on (it should be GSM/WCDMA auto)
dont know what happend, i flahed ARHD, but did a superwipe before.
Now the Radio works. only have to get wifi better, is there a fix for that?

Wifi issues

Hello all,
I've a problem with wifi in my Desire S and actually I don't know if it's software or hardware related. The problem:
Wifi switch is On, but no network scans at all, sometimes networks appear, but just for two, three seconds, and then no networks again. The process is: I turn wifi switch on, messages of: Turning wifi on, scanning..., on, disconnected, no networks available.
Wifi hotspot don't work either. Everything else is working perfectly

Tried almost everything, from wipe all three and four times, reinstall everything, to remove revolutionary and get stock HTC RUU again, neither of them worked.
Might be a rom problem, go ask the dev of the rom that you are using. Check the "bugs" list.
If problem persists, i suggest to ruu. Properly. If it is still doesnt work, then its a hardware problem.

Thanks, then it's probably a hardware problem, because I tried RUU and different roms.
If you're on latest fallout version you should use the fallout kernel that comes with the ROM.
I'm on a very similar setup and have no issues, not that that helps you.
To completely rule out the ROM then I'd suggest
take a backup
Full wipe
Install different stock based ROM and associated kernel
Re test
Sywepd form my DsereiS
could it not be a radio problem? when I had that radio I got a big battery drain. Not that that is the same as your symptoms, but it might show that this radio does not seem to work very well for every device or setup. Maybe try ur old radio just to rule it out?

or why not just setting a region code like I do?
go to wifi advanced settings and set a region code, whatever you like except europe, then go back and immediately turn on wifi, don't do anything extra like going back a step more. if it worked in this way, you have to do this every time after every reboot.
Try flashing 2-3 different roms like sense 3.6 and sense 4.1 roms and check if wi-fi is working. If yes then it is a kernel problem..try flashing a kernel suitable for jb roms like cm10.1 and the wi-fi should be back in action.
I'd like to give a simple recommendation: When you first boot into the welcome screen just after flashing an asop rom and gapps, the phone will search for wi-fi networks to log into the google account. Connect to wi-fi at that time and the phone will save your wi-fi configuration permanently (at least until you reflash a rom)
Hope it helps :good:

Most likely kernel issue. Do a backup, then full wipe except sdcard and flash a new rom (or restore a working backup)

Like I said, either you could try and fix your radio: See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202867.
Also, get GetRIL from play store and update you ril first.
But before that, I still recomment you do a full wipe except sdcard and reflash rom (not restore). Just to get it out of the way.
