Hi,
I rooted my phone and installed superuser etc, and the 1st release of ICS on the device which in doing so, unrooted my device.. not to bothered.. now i want to remove super user and im finding it a bit impossible so far.
I originally user super one click but now it just freezes on me, im guessing because of ics?
How do i either remove superuser OR can some one point me in the right direction to flash it back to stock.
Thanks!
Tom
go to nexusshacks.com and you can find a tut on how to root ur device and then revert to stock.
1.Connect your Phone to PC and get into bootloader mode.
2. Download CWM 5.2.0.2 for NexusS from here.
3. Download the stock rom for your device from here
4. Use "fastboot flash recovery <cwm_file_name.img>" to flash the correct version.
5. Reboot into recovery and you will now have the correct CWM.
6. Install the Rom that you downloaded at step 3.
You now have a stock, unrooted Nexus S
Optional:
1. You can download superuser.zip and flash it as step 7. Once you reboot you will have a stock, rooted rom.
Thanks, J

LOL.. Not a problem..
1. Switch off your phone,
2. Remove the battery cover. Remove the battery.
3. There will be a white sticker with IMEI etc. Look closely and you will find an entry MODEL-GTI90XX.. that is your model number
Thanks, J
Yeah, i think its a little too complicated for me tbh, very easy to root, no problem i messed around on my Gtab with loads of customer roms, but to unroot or even get rid of super user, for me its a bit tricky.
I think i will sell the phone to someone who knows what they are doing lol - any takers?
Thanks for all the help though, really appreciate it!

Tom, I guess we could just root your phone in ICS! If you have the proper files downloaded, it would take hardly 10 minutes to get your phone back to stock.
If you can give me the model name, I can point you to the files that you have to download. NO need to put up your phone for sale
PS: When you go to stock, you may need to do a factory reset and thus lose all data.
---------- Post added at 07:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:10 PM ----------
Or, you can set up everything at your end, and I can help you do it via TeamViewer - a desktop sharing utility
teamviewer huh? could we try that? if its no trouble of course
I suppose we could do that...what's your phone's model.. there's isn't much to do via the PC.. only flashing clockworkmod...
For the rest, you would have to press buttons up and down and select options..
btw, you have skype?
yes i do, add me tomster1210
Thanks for this btw
model is GT-I9020
Fixed!! Via skype & teamviewer
1. installed drivers
2. downloaded fastboot.
3. flashed recovery
4. flashed rom & su
5. Bingo!
Couldent of been more helpful! Thanks again!
I was going to ask the same question (how to revert to stock and keep superuser) .... now I dont need to post. Thanks for step by steps jithinsarath.
What do you do for step 6 if you have a D720? And if you backup a stock rom with CWM and then update to ICS w/ custom kernel, can you revert to your stock backup at that point?

D720 huh? AFAIK, I guess the latest that you have is GWK74 - Android 2.3.7. No ICS yet. But there are custom ROM's I believe.
If you have a CWM backup of the stock, you CAN restore it after ICS upgrade. Make sure you do a full wipe.
Thanks, J
I just went through this process and thought this might help:
I have been using NexusBeam and was tired of the random reboot. So I decided to go back to stock on my Nexus S 9020T.
These are the steps I have done:
1. nandroid backup working nexusbeam
2. downloaded stock Android 4.0.3/IML74K/XXKI1 Radio/KL1 Bootloader from here
3. Flashed it in recovery
Now I have kernel
3.0.8-gb55e9ac
android-build @apa28 #1
Build IML74K
and I donot have a recovery (as expected).
4. flashed clockwork recovery 5.0.2.0 using fastboot (tutorial here)
Now I have the recovery I wanted.
5. flashed superuser 3.0.7
and voila !
Sorry to dredge up an old Thread...
I'm looking to put my Nexus S back onto the stock path to get the 4.0.4 update as I thought I was stock but checking what I did I think I actually installed a custom rom so I'm not running a YakJu build?!?
This was the rom:
[Link removed as I'm too new but google ZD3PyN0t.zip and that's it]
I'm happy to follow the instructions above and want to do a full wipe and restore but confused which I have I9020A or I9020T - does it matter if I'm not in the US?
Carrier : 3 UK
Version : 4.0.3
Build: IML74K
Base I9020XXXI1
NOT ROOTED
Any pointers much appreciated!

If you have problems while re-rooting or custom recovery (unrevoke) try to downgrade again with the above procedure.
Make sure you have made a new goldcard.

This will fix your MISC Partition so you can flash back original RUU files.

The User maximini1 has found a thread where they describe how you can downgrade to 0.80 again.
So i try to explain how you have to do it.
Preparation
1. Make a NEW Goldcard (here)

2. Hold Volume up and press power
3. wait until PB99IMG.zip was found and checked
4. Press Volume Up <yes> - PICTURE 1
5. Wait until all steps are done. DON't POWER OFF YOUR DEVICE!!! - PICTURE 2

First of all, I have an unbranded simlock-free phone. All I did was
1. download the file to SD card.

3. boot into recovery (turn phone on while holding down volume)
4. just let it load the zip file and press yes when asked to install

Ok for the dumb and ignorant among us (a.k.a me) what state does this leave your phone in.
I get I downgrade HBOOT to 0.80 and my phone will be wiped, but what ROM will be on the phone after the downgrade will it still be the OTA rom or will it be another one?
Or do I then need to install a ROM of my choice after the downgrade, sorry if this is a really stupid question, I haven't put any custom ROM on my Desire yet and then I got the OTA update as I was thinking about checking out some custom stuff. Not had the phone long.
Thanks.

After you've done the steps above you will have the following:
Blank and wiped device
Firmware: 2.1-update1 UNROOTED!
HBOOT: 0.80
Basband(Radio): 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Kernel: [email protected]#1
Build: 1.21.405.2 CL174215 release-keys
With that you can root and flash anything you want
Thanks for the tuto.

Btw, didn't need the gc
Well, if this works AdamG doesn't have to find a way to root hboot 0.92.

Hi,
Im trying to root my G2X using superoneclick but everytime it reaches step#6 the program says not responding and it just locks up. Has anyone had this issue and knows how to resolve it? Im running the G2X with the gingerbread update and the latest superoneclick which I beleive is 2.1. I unmounted the SD card and I have the USB debugging checked.
Anyone?
Thanks
Superoneclick does not work on gb update, nvflash custom recovery, then just flash any rom you want.
Look in dev section on how to nvflash custom recovery.

Dude u people need to do a little research wtf man u probably been at this for days all u have to do is flash recovery with nvflash use tga gunman's guide its a one click tool like the tool we use for root its one button done, then u just flash xboarders rom or cm or even restore a backup if u have one anything with root will give u root privileges, I myself updated with LG updater tool (I just wanted baseband) I then flashed recovery, then restored my cm nightly backup, still had new baseband and was rooted again

As ancient as this thread may be, I thought I would comment in case it comes up in a Google search (as it did for me).
As it was going through step #6, the common freeze point, I simply disconnected and toggled USB debugging to work it through each phase. It went to step #7, repeated, then left it to install busybox, superuser, and so forth.

As far as I know the exploits are blocked for security reasons so they never get root access. Without temporary root super one click cannot install the programs needed to make root permanent. If this is a work around that would be a new development.

doesnt matter what device people use. ultimately, stock GB freezes at step 6. can anyone can validate the steps above, "to unplug the cable and toggle usb debugging" works or not?
if the only way is to flash the device, then there is no Rooting tool available yet for GB stock devices.

If the device has an alternate recovery (doesn't matter which one) you can use by G2X root zip to root it. It will work on any GB device that has an alternate recovery.

You can't superoneclick root 2.3.3 only 2.2. You have to flash CWM recovery then install a root zip or pre rooted ROM. All can be found in the Dev forum.

I bought my S3 used and it was already unlocked but from what I can tell still had the stock ROM (base version says it is I535VRLF2 but DEVICE STATUS says it is modified). When it powers up, I do not get a CWM or TWMP screen -- it goes directly to the normal startup so I am not sure what the previous owner loaded/did. I do not see any folders in the root folder (using ES FIle Explorer) for CWM and nothing in DATA/BACKUP (EDIT: just saw build number is VRALG7)...
Today I got a notice about an OTA upgrade (to HE) and got help on how to freeze it (as I did not want to lose root and all the customization I did to some files) but now I am wondering what changes were made from F2 to HE. I did find a post that talks about the HE upgrade.
Was F2 the previous OTA for the S3, or did my phone miss other OTAs? And if so, I am missing out on some important changes where I should let the OTA happen and then go and unlock the phone again? I read a number of threads about 'the new radio' which I assume is software to improve the phone or WIFI. Am I missing out?
Thanks
Frank

I don't think you are missing out on anything to be honest. I did update mine and reroot without any issues, but can't really tell a difference. I would still do it so I can have the latest update on my phone since this one doesn't lock anything that we can't get back into.

There has been only three official releases, F2,G7,and HE. Since you are at G7 I would go ahead and OTA HE. Latest ROMS are based off of it plus you will have all the latest firmware and modem.

Thanks for the reply. Will that break either my root or unlock (actually, I am not sure what state this phone is at since I did not do it -- I do find SuperSU in APPS, and have granted SuperUser to programs like Titanium Pro but there is nothing for CWM or other ROM managers...)?

If you did an OTA to get to G7 your root is probably gone. You said you have Titanium installed, try to use it. If not rooted it won't work and will advise you so. If this is the case do the OTA to HE and then you will be up to date stock ROM wise.

No, sorry, I must not have explained it correctly. Titanium Pro, ES File Explorer, etc works fine, and I can edit/delete/freeze, etc no problem. So it is still rooted (or unlocked, I can figure out which is which). I would update to HE but only if it did not mess up what I have....

Ok I understand now. Root and unlocked are two different things. You can flash an HE ROM and not lose your root. Unlock in your case I think you are referring to the bootloader. It will have to be unlocked prior to flashing custom ROMS. Get an app called EZ Unlock from the Playstore and it will unlock bootloader for you if it's not unlocked already.
I recommend CleanROM 3.1 if you decide to flash. Hope this has helped you some.

I am not interested in loading any custom ROMs (although I am hoping we get the official JB soon). The only thing that is of interest to me is to be able to run certain programs that require superuser access (e.g. Titanium Pro) and to be able to edit and delete files in the root directory. So I assume all I need is root, and I don't want any OTA updates to take that away (or overwrite files that I have modified or edited that deal with the OS). Maybe that is why I cannot find any reference to CWM -- the previous owner only rooted it but did not unlock it....

Got just the thing for you. First test to make sure you have newest CWM. Power down, Hold volume up,home button, and lock button at same time until phone flashes twice then release. This will put you in recovery and you can see what version you have. The latest is 6.0.1.2. If not you can find newest version or a touch version right here at XDA. Then if you want just a rooted HE version here you go.

Or you can download GooManager and flash TWRP for a more user friendly touch recovery.

OK. I have 6.0.0.8 right now. I am surprised it was there, as with my Nexus and my TP on a cold boot it would show CWM at startup. And there would be folders in the root directory (/CWM). But yes, I have CMW.
And OK on now being able to download and install a rooted HE. But most are saying it either does nothing or makes the phone run a little hotter, so unless I see a pressing need, I will just stay with what I have.
Thanks again.

I had tried TWRP with my HP TP and although it has a nice interface, one time, on loading a new nightly, it TOTALLY messed up my TP. I thought it was bricked. I ended up having to do a complete restore back to WebOS using WebDoctor and a lot of what I thought was code-level input via the PC trying to bring it back to life. Since then, I have only used CWM.
Thanks for the input though!

It is personal choice. I have not had any problems with it and have been running since device was released for pre-order. I run whatever recovery seems to be most stable for the device. CWM for Tbolt. Amon Ra for Rezound. And now TWRP for S3. Have seen more bricks and failed flashes contributed to CWM so I stick with TWRP.

The OTA installed with a custom recovery installed? Interesting. Usually OTA's fail if anything but stock recovery is installed. I only lost root but restored root with OTA Rootkeeper with stock recovery. Good to know that custom recovery can be installed and still get OTAs!

Can anyone tell me why every time I try to flash a ROM after I have taken all the OTA updates I am on VRLGHE; when my phone re-boots I get the verizon screen saying I have unapproved software and take to a verizon store.

OK, I used EZ Unlock 1.2 and it said "unlocked" is there a way to know for sure before flashing if it is unlocked?
Thanks!

So i'm looking for a little help.
A little while back I used this thread : [GUIDE] TF300T Unlock/Root/Flash for Factory JB Devices (newbie friendly)
To help me install this custom rom : [ROM][TF300]|Mar 28| Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Official JB 4.2.1 Stock or Themed ¯´·.¸¸. -
onto my girlfriends TF300T tablet
and I have this : [RECOVERY][TF300T/TG] TWRP 2.5.0.0 Touch Recovery! [2013-4-9] on there as well
but I can't remember if this was part of the unlock/root/flash process or not, so i'm not sure if it used it during the process or if I added it shortly afterword
now its been while since I have done it but then the tablet started to restart randomly while she was using it.
so I figured no biggie maybe an app got messed up or something, and so I told her to back up her pics, exc she wanted off the unit
and I could look at reinstalling the apps or just taking the unit back to factory rom
about a week later it started to reboot more often randomly
and now it is to the point where it will not make it into the rom
now I can make it into the boot selection where I can choose RCK (for the TWRP), USB, or the other 2 options
and I know I can make it into the TWRP tool as well and it does not repeatedly boot from there, so i'm sure its a rom issue and not a hardware issue, but I could still be wrong
the unit is currently charging so I have not had a chance to try for the usb connection option or anything else yet
hopefully the usb option will work so I can try to recover the pics, exc before taking the unit back to factory
now in the process I know I have unlocked the unit, I believe I have done the min root but have not fully rooted the unit if that makes sense
so i'm just wondering if I will half to fully root (and how do I do that if I do since I can't make it into a rom)
how do I clear the rom that has gone bad
how do I install a factory rom (how do I tell which is the lastest rom, and which one is needed for my unit)
and then I should be good from there
if you need any more info please let me know and maybe some instructions on how to get to that info
in the process of putting the energy rom onto it, I spent a week of reading, researching, and figuring out which way would probably be the safest for me to do, plus the easiest for me to understand
now that it has been so long I have been reading and researching again, I just need that nudge that gets me in the right direction
i'm sure i'm not the only one that has had this issue with a rom, and i'm also sure there is a guide out there already that goes over how to put it back to a factory rom
just for some reason i'm either over looking it or not finding it

Its very simple to return to stock. But first, do you have the tablets drivers installed on your pc?
---------- Post added at 06:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 AM ----------
And do you have fastboot?
if you are talking about the android sdk tools
yes that is installed on my computer from the first time I did the tablet
and I went ahead and did the updates for it as well
and tried plugging the unit in with the fastboot and confirm it shows up in device manager

Lol okay. Theres actually a more simple way.
1. Download the latest asus firmware.
2. Extract the zip file
3. Flash it like a normal rom.
If you cant use this method then you'll have to use fastboot. Here's a link but if you need any help, just ask : http://www.androidauthority.com/transformer-pad-tf300t-restore-stock-firmware-108016/
how do I check the sku according to that guide if i'm not able to load into the android os
that only shows if you can load into the os
would the box have that?
or now looking at the options that I should assume its is a US sku lol

lol, and how do I do that using the twrp?
can't find any detailed instructions on using twrp on flashing a rom, especially the stock one
i'm sure there is a set of detailed instructions cause I swore I saw one once
but i'm not able to find it again
cause I thought besides using the install part there were things I had to clear as well for it to work
oh and yeah the download link for fastboot is no long working in the one guide you gave me to follow so not sure if I already have what it is talking about

Its simple lol. When you download the firmware from asus, its usually in a .zip form. In it, there is another zip file. Copy that zip file onto your tablet and flash it with twrp.

Yes. You have to do a factory reset first.
and how do I do that lol, and what happens when I don't do that first
is this tablet now dead since the step of doing the reset was not complete? cause now I can not access twrp and it just sits there with the asus logo and the swirling dots
when I try to access the usb option all I have is rck, android and wipe, rck just gives a failure shortly after trying

If you want to use twrp, download the us stock firm ware. when you open it, you'll see a file that looks like this: "US_epad-user-10.6.1.15.3". copy that file onto your tablet and flash it like a normal rom. haha
For fastboot, if you have the android sdk, then you already have fastboot so you dont have to download fastboot again.

if you cant enter twrp, then you dont have to worry about the factory reset you can flash the stock rom using fastboot.
I have a rooted StraightTalk SCH-S968C Samsung Galaxy S III (with the stock AOSP ROM) that I just screwed up. I had used EZ-Recovery to flash TWRP 2.2.0 to the phone. Now TWRP says there is no OS! I can only boot into TWRP - nothing else. It won't even let me power-down the phone. Is there some way I can recover from this, or do I now have a very expensive electronic brick (that runs TWRP)? I have adb installed on my laptop and I know it works, so that's one possible route to recovery. Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm pretty sure it's possible to return it completely to stock with the COMBINATION_S968CUDUAMH1_S968CTFNAMH1_1304014_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5 file through Odin. I just to happen to have the file right here.. small warning though, it's 1.2 gigs.

That's the file I am offering to host on my Website, since nobody seems to be able to download it from Dropbox. I'm having trouble downloading it from Mega... Since the file is over 1 GB, Mega insisted I needed to download their extension, but it's not compatible with Firefox 22. I tried Chrome, and Mega says that Chrome on my laptop is "a bit outdated"... sheesh! I'll try and update it.
(added later) - I found a Dropbox link for the file and it's downloading now.
If you want to FTP the file to my Website, let me know by PM and I'll give you the username and password.
I tried using fastboot to install CWM Recovery, but fastboot is eternally "waiting for device" even though it's there (adb can see it).
Aug. 7 - Got the file I needed, but didn't use it since Windows7 would not recognize the phone even after I installed the drivers. (I think it was an issue with automatic updates being disabled...) In the meantime... I tried the button-combo for the bootloader (which I swore I tried the day before and it didn't work), and the phone booted into the bootloader! From there, I pressed "Volume down" to cancel & reboot the phone, and it went into the stock system - it was all still there! First thing I did was immediately use EZ-Recovery to flash CWM 5.8.4.5. - Issue resolved!
Deleted.

In that thread go down to method 2 of getting a custom recovery. I downloaded cwm touch from the link there and then installed it with android terminal emulator using the codes that it says to type in. I tried to look up that stock rom but I didnt find it. Its on the forum somewhere in a thread about how to root the straight talk s3 and how first you need to download and flash the h1 baseband stock rom
Thanks I found the stock rom fixing it now.

Have you gotten recovery installed and straightened out yet?
Let me know if you need some help, tell me where you're at and what you've got going on with what you have.
I returned phone to stock. The recovery wasn't in the right place obviously. So that's where I am . Stuck back at stock. Thanks for any help you can give.

Are you on stock not rooted or you are rooted?
Do you have stock recovery or custom.
I can get you to wherever you need or want. Tell me what you need or where you'd like to be.

I have combined 2 s3's to make one good one. This is the proper thread for the model of the chipset. The phone has been worked on buy someone who only thought they were a genious. I've found traces and from surfing the forums I'm pretty sure I know what they did even. I'm gonna grab these stock images and flash back to stock. I just wanted to put a word in now to see how dead this thread is. BTW just for the record easy safe root is achievable with safroot for Att g s 4. I've confirmed that. Root is no issue. Modem drivers are jacked up. I want what I have now with WiFi in tact and custom recovery. Just wanted to get the word in in case I hit a wall with recovery as I am now before the flash to stock. Thanks in advance for any help. Sorry for the ramble
