requesting the stock app from froyo "birthday reminder" or "event reminder" to be used on a stock gingerbread mod. (seemed it has been removed from GB)
thanks for helping!
(found one from stock froyo build but is only an ODEX file, no APK)
converting froyo system apps to GingerBread
so i managed to grab the
event reminder.apk and event reminder.odex
kpt.apk and kpt.odex
from a stock FROYO rom, however whenever i install the apk's
i got "application not installed" both apk and odex have RW R R permissions still nogo.
copied the files to /system/app doesn't work either...
does anyone know how to convert them to work on GingerBread?
thanks!
PS: if you need the files, let me know...
It is framework dependent...so it will not install...

So can't the app be reprogrammed to suit a different framework???
would they be able to make it compatible with GB?

Stock (1.32.651.6) with root. Deodex and odex available (06/10/2010)
What does deodex and odex mean?
This is the correct file I am looking for right?
By TrevE from the DamageControl ROM post:
Deodex basically takes the odex file and stuffs it into the apk as a classes.dex. First boot it dissembles the file into /dalvik-cache (i believe). Now there is basically 2 copies of the odex, one in the apk one in cache. This makes it "portable". This allows modders to work on the apks & easily change stuff. If you want themes or stuff like lockscreen fixes you MUST use Deodex.
Odex is how things come stock. It takes up less room but making modifications or taking apks from other roms is hard. You cannot use themes with this version!!

Hi if you extracted the framework-res.apk can you use the OUT Kitchen to modify the file and use root explorer to replace the apk?

Not sure. but the ROM has to be de-odexed first I believe.
UOT says it will work on odexed roms
didn't know if the stock rom was odexed

stock / official ROMs are always odex'ed. If thats the case, try the UOT at your own risk. Framework-res breaking will cause boot loops.
Anybody brave enough to try this?
I tried uploading framework-res.apk to UOT and just did the Circle Battery mod, then downloaded the .zip and renamed it to "update.zip" and flashed in stock recovery, but no go... I think once we get CWM recovery working, this might start working...
FYI, framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk aren't odexed. On any Samsung ROM I've poked around in.
I tried it last night and installed with cwm and it bootloooped had to restore from backup would be cool if it did though i will tinkier more with it and see
I flashed Refuse (check out the other threads about this rom) via Odin, then extracted the framework-res.apk and uploaded it to UOT and created a zip with the battery mod I wanted. Then I installed Rom Manager from the market, moved it to phone (by default it installed to SD), flashed the Captivate recovery, then booted into recovery, selected reinstall packages (which got me to CWM recovery), then selected install zip from SD card, then selected the zip, and it worked.
this is the same method i used and it worked for the fonts and battery mods and i changed some color schemes also now have a white status bar
why wont it let me download my framework and systemUI?

It works. I've done it personally (on stock Froyo). Just do it as anyone else would do it (follow the directions given).

Using a file manager/explorer, copy the file and paste it to your sdcard.

Oh. Didn't know you were to that point since you said download. When I was getting that error, it was because of the particular internet connection I was on. Haha, I was going to suggest you visit the thread for support, but I see you've already posted there. Well, good luck.
Not liking the Android Keyboard too much in CM10 JB for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 wifi
so, looking for way(s) to get the Stock Samsung Keyboard app/apk from ICS to work on CM10.
Tried using Titanium Backup / restore, as well as, recovery update.zip options but no luck.
Any ideas on how to get this app as well as few other Samsung Stock apps to work on CM or other builds?
You need the APK (and odex if it wasn't deodexed) as well as the lib for the keyboard.
a bit mre detail plz

Dude, is that an Audi? I am guessing you drive one, I do and Love it!
As for how to make the apps run, I have searched but confused about Smali, Baksmali etc. And don't think I am going the right direction here. So, if you could, plz post some steps as to how this is done. Also, where to find the lib and odex files...
I'd have to restore my original backup and extract the files and later restore the current running cm10. Since I have only one tab, it is not easy to experiment as it takes time for loading etc. If u can post some specific steps, I'll just take it from there for all the stock apps I need (I.e. calendar, memo etc.)
The easiest way to do it would be to pull the APK from a deodexed ROM, then you don't need to worry about an odex file. For the lib, I believe it is libXt9core.so or similar, and it will be in /system/lib/. Then all you would need to do is put the APK in /system/app and the lib in /system/lib and it should work for you.
Also, yes it is an Audi
Summary: How can I transfer apps from the stock rom (that are stored as.apk and .odex pairs) to my current rom?
Full Story: The stock rom (Gingerbread) for the Samsung YP-G70 has a working fm radio app that I'd like to use with my current rom (CM 10.2). I saved the .apk and .odex files from a stock install to my sd card.
Is this even possible?
If anybody's managed to do it, what're the steps? (the default apps are stored as .apk with a .odex file and xultimate can't seem to handle the files (get "top level error" about missing files and such))

Already tried that. All the results I'm seeing involve a third party app backup tool (which I've already tried without success), or don't address the mixed apk & odex issue.
no it wont
it wont work as it is odexed .... try deodexing the apk but still i would say it wont work but still u try...
Hi guys, I got this problem in my odexed stock rom, I have this problem in sysui, gallery and calculator.
I downloaded 4.2.2 style sysUI, pushed it in the respective folder by replacing with its stock sysUI.
I rebooted my core, the statusbar was gone, so I deleted 'SystemUI.odex" file, then rebooted it worked!
In the same way, I replaced stock gallery with note3 gallery, and stock SecCalculator2
Luckily note3 gallery worked, but it doesn't support Sim2 so I can't change Sim2's wallpaper or make it same as Sim1's.
In the statusbar, I can't see most notification cuz its completely transparent, and also its a bit laggy.
Calculator never worked
So I wanted to replace these with stock, when I pushed it in system>apps> I noticed that there were no .odex files for .apks
I replaced them with their stock odex files, none of 'em worked, I guess cuz of the odex thing, so I again deleted odex files and rebooted, nothing worked..
Now, I need some developer's advice, plz don't tell me to "Flash Stock Rom via Odin" I can't do it...
Is there any other left way to make them work plz I need help..
You are saying 'in my deodexed rom' and then you said 'deleted. Odex file for systemUI'
How could this be possible?
If you have .Odex files in system/apps folder then your ROM is not odexed.
Deodex it first using xUltimate tool
And yup Don't forget to set permissions = rw--r--r--

Sorry bro, huge typo. I meant in my odex rom and yes I set the proper permissions...
Well, it seems to me that you have messed up your phone alot.. Flashing stock rom via odin would've been the correct solution to this problem. It's not as difficult as you think, and you're capable of doing it. Follow thecoreguy's tutorial for that.

Then you have done wrong.
Not every apk can be used by just deleting the .odex file.
You need to deodex the apps in system/app and system/framework folder then you can easily replace the apks.
1.First restore back to any working backup.
2.Download xUltimate Tool.
3. Run it.
4. Then just run commands with options 1,2,3,4 (You just need to type 1 and then enter, then 2 and then enter, so on upto option 4.)
5. Exit after executing 4th option.
6. Download ADB tool(don't download the complete package, you will get a 1-2MB ADB.exe from the from itself) - Use it to push the deodexed files made from xultimate.

If you find it difficult then Better you upload the apks with their respective odex file. I will deodex those apks

Not even the stock apks? I want to replace the ported/modded apks with the stock ones..
No you can't because almost all stock apks have their respective odex files and every odex file contains resources that are needed to run those apks. Also there exists dependencies in system/framework folder. So just deleting odex file won't work all time.
Finally got it! Special thanks to megatron
Solution if u r screwed in my situation: don't panic, what I found why I cant do it was bcuz my phone has dat "newest" update of samsung ota. So b4 u take someone's apk and odex file always cross check this(image)
And then you are gud to go!!! U wont even need to restart it'll come automatically(my dad has same phone and same updated version as mine so I copied everything needed frm his phone to mine) @AnsleyC at times, the answer should not be "flash stock rom via ODIN" if u have a crappy pc, u can either repair faulty parts(easier and efficient) or buy a new one(bullcrap)
Have fun everyone!
