[Q] Some apps not saving preferences - Samsung Infuse 4G

I recently was playing with one of those bloatware freezing apps. I froze only the obvious ones like buddies now etc. Something happened though. After I was done the icon tray was gone, and the home buton did'nt work at all. The phone was basically a brick because I couldn't get to any apps. So I did a factory restore. It did it and some of the apps were still there but crashed. So I uninstalled everything and reinstalled it back through market.
Now things kind of work but everytime I load some apps I get messages like it was installed for the first time even if I ran them before. None of the preferences are saved. If I leave them in RAM they remember but if I go to the task manager and flush RAM when I restart all preferences are gone again. Nothing is being written or saved to the system like it should be. The theme chooser in Astro file manager doesn't work at all.
What the hell is going on and how can I fix it? I am using the stock ROM and rooted.

dave,
if a factory reset didn't fix your problem,
you will have to flash your phone back to stock.
you can use gtg's ultimate unbrick - stock froyo
h8rift root and 3e recovery - stock froyo, rooted with 3e recovery or
adam outler's heimdall one click to gb leak, uckj4 stock.
you can find these in the dev superthread or some of my quick links

Hi,
Sorry I screwed that up. I couldn't get into the interface to do a factory reset. So what i did was flash back to stock with odin. After I did that the apps were still there but many didn't work. I uninstalled them and re-installed and they worked as stated with glitches.
Maybe I needed to flash to stock then do a factory reset to clean things up?

yeah, if you wanted to clean up everything, do a factory reset. Take off all the files and pictures you want from the phone including your micro sd card if you gave one.
Go to settings. Privacy. Factory reset.
Put phone into download mode.
Use gtg's ultimate unbrick if you want to go back to stock froyo. Then do the ota update.

[Q] Market won't open on rooted device?

I rooted and then began backup with Titanium BU. I was uninstalling all the bloatware BS when I accidentally uninstalled the google application that allows my market to function. Is there a way to simply reinstall it without having to mess around with too much stuff? I'm an amateur at this sorta stuff, hence the mistake. Thanks.
If you backed up with TB, then just restore it.
Have you enabled side loading
I'm not exactly sure how to do that. I'm a newbie.
I uninstalled with Ti BU while I was backing up everything else. I thought the google app package was bloatware from AT&T. If there isn't an easy way, I'm just going to teach myself to use Odin and flash stock ROM, but I'd rather not do that.
If you backed everything up, go into titanium, backup and restore, click filers, backed up, look for talk, or gtalk. Restore

You either have to enable side loading, then find the app
Or use odin
How do I enable side loading, and then how do I load it?

Here is a thread on this. The apps are there.
Pc or mac

How will sideloading capability help him to restore a part of the OS he deleted by mistake?

Download gtalk apks. Can not install then with out side load capability since their source is not the market
Wouldn't a reset just put him back to stock so he can start over?

Odin yes. I did the same thing when I first rooted my phone. Either odin, or install gtalk will fix. Factory reset from inside phone will not bring app back

Good to know. It always did with WinMo.

HELP

So, I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) last weekend. I had it rooted and everything was fine. Then I got rid of some of the bloatware. I wrote a couple of programs for myself to use, so I needed to enable side-loading. I did that-successfully.
First sign of a problem was when I went to the marketplace and it would not download any single app that I tried. So, I went to restore the phone using the backup I made, but some reason it wasn't there.
Then I decided to revert to factory settings. I did a hard reset, but the problem was still not resolved. Then I found a thread on here about Odin 3. I've been trying to use that all night but the best I've gotten is to the File Analysis step. I've tried at least 10 different times.
I'm trying to get everything back up and running and preferably rooted again so that I can use my Titanium backup to restore all my apps and settings.
I'm at my wits end, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Factory reset would not solve any problems that may have been caused by deleting core apps. Is your phone rooted and nand unlocked (baseband) or just rooted? Are you running a custom rom? If so you need to reflash the rom after clearing cache and dalvik cache. If you still have the original rom then you can reflash an official samsung firmware using odin, look for your handsets firmware on www.samfirmwares.com
Other than that you could try finding out which apps are needed and using root explorer you may be able to fix the version you have. If the market is your only issue then try clearing data and cache settings/manage apps/market and download manager (two different apps)
How did you root your phone? Did you install a custom ROM yet? What bloatware did you remove, and how did you go about it?
Ok. In the wee hours this morning I finally got Odin to work and now everything works as it should. I switched computers and the program worked right away. Intersting tidbit though, I accidentally left the sim card in during the reflash and I had no ill effects. I'm actually wondering if that helped me.
Thanks tina333.
nenol, I used the one touch root. I have not installed a custom rom and I don't remember exactly which of the programs I uninstalled. I used Titanium backup to both backup my apps and to delete the bloatware.
There are very few system apps that are not needed by the system, titanium only backs up data by default. Be careful what you delete and always research first

Lost all my apps after reboot... (Infuse 4G)

I am posting this as somewhat of a noob...
I went from ROM after ROM after ROM with no problem. Then I installed Dlev GB (WICKED SWEET!!!!) and reinstalled my all my apps with TiBu; but upon getting every thing I wanted set up, restarting, I lost ALL of my apps over and over. I then started to Data wipe and Dalvik wipe and install repetedly trying to get it working. NO SUCCESS... Then went back to stock using gtg's "Returne to Stock" (Always a HUGE THANK YOU!!!!) and started from scratch as it were. Installed Modded CWM again gtg, and then installed Dlev one more time... Come to find out that i REALLY screwed things over before doing the return to stock. What also was happening was that each time that I would use TiBu, it would throw EVERYTHING into my System Partition instead of just installing it in the USB/Internal SD.
So if you are running across this also... Here is the way I worked it out. It doesnt take all that long, just get all your tools infront of you before going forward.
Tools list:
[ODIN][UCKD5] GTG's Ultimate Unbrick - Return to stock - Working PIT included (gtg465x)
[RECOVERY] 100% working ClockworkMod Recovery for Infuse 4G (gtg465x)
USB Cable
What ever ROM you would like to install
And that is it!! Just start going step by step and you will be on your way to a clean slate. Enjoy! But don't come back to me if you do something wrong and Brick the Junk out of your Infuse! I'm just stating what helped me and hopefully it will for you if your in the same boat.

Infuse being laggy

So about two weeks ago Ive noticed my infuse starting to get laggy. Now its laggy all the time. Ive tried reinstalling CM7 and nothing, Ive installed CM9 and it still lags. can anybody help with this?
Did you try any other ROMs and noticed similar behavior?
If you use Google voice it will cause that. Make sure when you first reinstall a rom don't add any apps... run it and see if its laggy. If not install your apps you always use one at a time... if after installing one Ans you notice lag you got your culprit. GV used to do this to my aria

i would backup everyone on both of you sd cards to a computer.
(also back up any apps with titanium and text and such)
read this whole page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
then flash stock gingerbread
factory reset your phone
then flash the kernal in the same thread
(format your external sd in your pc, then put it back in your phone and format it with your phone)
remember to back up things on the phone, then move them over to your pc before you start this process, because EVERYTHING on your phone will be wiped
then flash a rom again, from this clean of a state it should fix pretty much anything.

Before ive ran lots of different roms with no problems, ive been running cm7 for a few months now and its just now starting to act like this. I must have installed a bad file or something.

Rooted Tablet went bad...

I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 tablet with the tutorial from this site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24736900
It worked just fine for a couple days, then today I powered up the tablet and when I unlock it, it shows a problem loading all widgets, and within a few seconds the screen goes black, then proceeds back to the unlock screen. I unlock it again and this keeps repeating.
I didn't hack anything else, just installed superuser and a couple of other root apps. Really I haven't done anything else to cause this.
I don't even have enough time to go into settings and do a factory reset.
Any ideas? Perhaps in recovery?
EDIT - I did a factory reset in recovery. Is this going to fix it back to normal? I probably won't root ever again.
It probably has no affect, but what root apps did you install?
superuser, busybox, adfree, rom toolbox (which couldnt even detect my root but I never tried anything else)... those I can remember...
Did you install CWM and do a backup?
Im not sure what that acronym is for. I am new to all this. I followed the simple instructions in that tutorial and that was it.
It seems the issue is gone since my factory reset.
I am not sure if the root is still there however.
If there are extra steps to be done after a root it would help to have them with the tutorial....
A factory reset will remove root from your phone. Rooting it in and of itself should cause no issues like you are having it has to be something you installed and I would suspect ROM Toolbox. I'm not sure this app supports teh GTab+ or even has any useful purpose for us as we have no real ROMs to flash. It also contains a ROM Manager and if its the same one by Koush then it will defintely screw up our tablets.

I have done this ROOT like a million times (i'm a flash junkie)... testing the CM9 roms and back to stock again.. never had an issue with ROOTing the stock ROMs..
Suggest you download the latest firmware for your device and flash using ODIN and factory reset. Repeat the flash & factory reset a few times
Maybe you have the wrong clue of what your problem is. To root your tab is just a matter of put a binary called "su" on a directory on your PATH, usually /usr/bin and set it with proper permissions. This binary gives you superuser powers, but there's nothing on it or at least in the process that installs it that makes it interfere in anything without being called.
So accidentally you did anything that went wrong or any of programs that requires root did.

Sorry for taking a bit to reply, havent had the chance to get much PC stuff done lately.
Aaah so you think it was the culprit.... its wierd because when I tried to run the rom toolbox it shown that my tab was not rooted.
Then the problems started... as in my tab was rebooting itself and was stuck in a loop.
I did do the factory reset and then used a root checker and noticed it shown as no root access.
I have read that a factory reset does not remove root... are you sure it does completely?
I'd hate to go through another reset as I have set everything up again.
The only bug I have noticed so far with my tab is that the odd app (so far market and dolphin browser) at times I am unable to go back a page... the page just kind of flashes and stays on that page but does not go back. I end up having to restart the app.
Should I reflash with latest firmware and do a factory reset?
If so... I found this site, shall I use these instructions and firmware?
