So I'm trying to get a captivate to boot however I cannot get into download mode and I'm failing at using the one click unsoft brick method.
I'm thinking the one click unsoft brick method could work, however I cannot get it to install correctly. I installed it as an adminstrator yet I'm still have problems running heidemall.
Could you point me in the right direction? Its been hours.

Download a one-click from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843. If you're already on gingerbread or if you chose a 2.1 or 2.2 one-click, use a bootloader-free package. Once you have downloaded one, follow the instructions at the bottom.
Read this... Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help
Id also like to mention that I'm at the point where the phone only boots into the screen with a phone icon, a computer icon, and a exclamation point.
Edit:Success thanks guys
Sucks even more because it was the first link in the development section. Tried one didn't try them all.

This is for anyone who once they flashed cm7 for the captivate 2.3.4 lost the ability to get into download mode and have tried every method besides a jig. Find and download 3buttonfix.zip and flash it via rom manager. Try it. I don't have a link but I'm a noob who has been able to find almost everything I need in xda.

Everything that is, except the cm7 sticky, where this should have gone... A new thread was completely unnecessary.
My bad....just got overly excited. Ill go there

Maybe I am missing something here but when I turn off my phone, remove SIM/SD Card/battery, plug in USB cable, hold the volume rockers and pop in my battery I get into download mode. This was always the way I have done it since I was on 2.1, 2.2 and now 2.3.4 (CM7). CM7 assumes you are using the froyo boot loaders and does not flash any bootloaders at all. I actually believe reading that the CM dev purposely do this as flashing the bootloaders is a high risk event. I thought the deal with CM was that you could not enter download mode via software (from inside the booted OS) but I would guess if download mode does not work that it probably did not work before. I would hope that is not the case as I would think nobody should be flashing their phone without working download mode
Also, the file you are telling people to flash essentially flashes your phones bootloaders with modified versions which contain the 3 button fix, etc. You really should understand what you have just done and provide people with the appropriate risks.
Just my input in the case that someone wanders in here...
OMG you did it!
i need some help rooting my strat i been following this guide http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7840-kernel-guide-root-your-stratosphere/

I can't seem to find a Clockwork Recovery install anywhere and was wondering what the progress was in the port? I seen that someone posted they were working on it on the root thread and need to know if any updates on it? I know there are a ton of people that won't go without a slider and seeing as this phone is the only 4g slider right now I figured there would be all kinds of rom support for it. Its unlocked bootloader was the reason i got it along with my fiancee's need for a keyboard. First time i seen any android device without cwr.

samsung stratosphere trouble!!
Hi everyone. I was looking for some help to fix the samsung stratosphere that i tried rooting the other day. I will explain to the best of my knowledge as to what i did and how i got where i am with trying to root my phone and where i believe things went bad. i downloaded heimdall and all the necessary files that i got off of the rootzwiki forum specifically for rooting this phone. I was following the instructions exactly as they are posted. Well i than tried to use a different method within heimdall called heimdall - front end. i tried flashing the kernel from the rootzwiki forum using this method. i loaded the stratosphere.pit and went to the flash menu and checked repartition and reboot phone and clicked flash. Thats where the trouble began, now it seems that my phone is stuck in a bootloop, where it will either go to the screen where it asks if you wanna flash a custom rom or it will go into recovery mode if i try to reboot the phone. When my phone is plugged in, it dont show thats its charging but the power button will work sometimes or i just have to hold the power and volume down button and it will go to the custom rom screen. If anyone could help me figure this out,it would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for any help or advice on my situation.
Hi guys,
I am new to the forum and in need of considerable help.
I have a Tmobile Galaxy S 4g (not the SII). I had previously upgrade the phone to gingerbread 2.3.6, but last night I was trying to root it again to do a lag fix.
Unfortunately, I think I used the wrong root file - I used something for Galaxy S GT-19000. Now, whenever I try to start the phone it just switches back and forth from the Tmobile Galaxy S screen to the Galaxy S GT-19000.
I used ODIN to root it, and now I desperately need to return it to factory settings. Can anyone help?
I tried looking for original factory firmware, but I can only find it for the Galaxy SII. Would that even work?
Thanks - I would appreciate any help I can get!
Yeah, you flashed something for the Vibrant. If you have Java installed on your computer, then check out bhundven's Heimdall One-Click collection. The first one listed is pure stock. The 3rd one comes with a modded kernel, CWM, root, and voodoo lagfix.
Click the second link in my signature, follow the guide and you will good to go.

This is just a thought. Some people have signatures turned off. Maybe posting that link would be better. I recently turned them off because of a user that used the largest font available to ask people to suggest a phone for his birthday...yes you read that correct.
I put it in my signature for when I am on the XDA app. Haven't had one person mention not finding the link yet so not worried about it.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the help, but something doesn't seem to be working.
After I enter Zadig and install the driver, I close the zadig window. Then the instructions say to 'flash' once again in Heimdall, and then wait for the android to reboot.
However, nothing is happening. when I flash once again in Heimdall, it just takes me back to zadig to reinstall the drivers all over again. It seems to just be a loop. Am I doing something wrong?
I don't even get to these steps below:
1. When Heimdall One-Click is finished working - your phone will reboot. Linda will start speaking to you. Now you wait.
2. Wait longer - you will sit at the Galaxy S 4G splash screen while waiting.
3. When Linda is finished working her magic - you will hear her say [Voodoo Lagfix is now activated].

You are reading the instructions correctly. After installing drivers it says -
Close Zadig window.
Now back in Heimdall One-Click - select [flash] and wait.
The part you quoted were the directions for after flashing bootloaders.
I recommend you start over - read the directions once - then read them again. The directions and pictures make it very clear. If something is not happening the way it says - and/or Heimdall One-Click hangs up - close it down, reboot your your computer and as I said - start over from the beginning.
Hi Lumin,
Thanks for the help - I'm following the instructions exactly, and I've rebooted my computer. I'm still having the same problem.
After I close Zadig, and then I click flash again in Heimdall. All it does is take me back in zadig to reinstall the drivers.
when I'm in zadig, I have the option of 3 drivers. Could this have something to do with it?
Thanks
Ok - scratch that, I figured it out. I needed to install the winusb drivers, once I did that it was perfect.
If I followed this process completely, do I now have voodoolag fix?
I'm not sure what it means to flash bootloaders - was that needed to get voodoolag fix?
Thanks!
Yes you have Voodoo Lagfix. The guide when yoj need to flash bootloaders. If you get a rainbow screen when you boot your phone - you need to flash bootloaders. If your were on Gingerbread 2.3.6 before your started the guide - you don't need to flash bootloaders.
Hello Lumin, does this methord can work on other Android phone?
Unfortunately not. It was made for the Galaxy S 4G SGH-T959V. Sorry.
I Have re posted this here because I posted in the incorrect forum the first time.
Hi guys I just bricked my phone. It is the vzw galaxy s 3 and I had it rooted using this method --> www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=TnOthODuAvM&list=UUzoKZegNgnnYJ3ex4uatJCw& index=0&feature=plcp
I was trying to un-root it using this method --> www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=4gViuW3xUts&feature=plcp
but it failed writing and now my phone says firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
I am trying to be as specific as i can as defined by this video --> www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=_UhIfFo8GFE&feature=plcp
Please help me out asap. The reason I am trying to restore it to stock is because i am going to Verizon tomorrow and i am getting it replaced cause my screen cracked. I really messed up didn't I?
After it said it failed to flash in Odin3 I unplugged the phone and pulled the battery but that made it do what it is i think. anybody who can help me?
also I can get into download mode I think I just re installed the stock.vzw_root66 file that i used to root the phone leading to its overwrite making it fail I am not sure how to fix this please help
I am able to get download mode.
PS: yes i pushed the power button and i have not tryed to do anything with it yet because i am scared to make it worse. and yes it is charged lol
please help me lol
If you can get to download mode you are fine. Try the root66 one again. If it does not work download the stock unrooted vzw ROM from the original development thread titled 'rooting, flashing stock ROMs and more' I believe is the title. He links you to a stock rooted, stock kernel, and stock in rooted ROM and gives you step by step directions. Just follow that and you will be fine.
Good luck!

I have a rooted Galaxy S 4G T959 that all of a sudden decided it wanted to freeze on the boot screen. Even when I plug it up to charge it it just shows and empty battery gauge. I updated the phone using kies mini to the latest gingerbread software. The root I used I found on youtube. The file names are heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32 and I used a driver called zadig. I'm not familiar with the workings of developing and rooting but I'm trying to learn. Which is why I have no idea how to get my phone off the boot screen. If anyone who's had this problem can help please do. I cant get into the phone to check and see if I still have development mode on. Any help you guys can give would be great. thanx
If you rooted with heimdall and then updated using kies you lost root if I'm understanding correctly the order you did this stuff
Do you have cwm? If so just download a rom...slap it on your SD card and install new rom that way.
If not you need to return to stock using heimdall one click or odin. You can search the forum for this stuff. Use that then use a custom GB kernel to get CWM and root using heimdall/odin

Do you have a T-959 or a T-959V? Check under your battery to make sure it's got a V in the model before you flash anything! If it's not the correct phone you can hard brick.
If you DO have a T-959V (Notice the V at the end there? Again, make sure your phone is the correct one) then follow this guide:
