[Q] battery drains when phone is shut down - T-Mobile LG G2x

my lg g2x drains my battery when turned off
the most previous experience was last night when i had my battery at 39 percent when i turned it off the next morning when i turned it on it was at 19%...
At first i thought it was the faux's DebouchedSloth (the one with the funky readings) so i paid no mind to it. (i just left it on during the night in airplane mode, which actually gave me better battery life) Later, i flashed the trinity kernel, only to find out the same thing happens
what do i do?
im running the latest cm7 kang build from baldwinguy77 with trinity kernel T15max 20122011 if thats any help.
thanks in advance

try a "battery calibration"
let it drain out completely and then let it charge 1 to 2 hours extra after it has reached 100%. worth a shot but i doubt it will help
or try wiping battery status in recovery
also, set up setCPU with profiles

Hmm.. I wonder how the battery drains even though it is off? o_o
Did you try turning it off, than remove the battery and put it back in? And see if it drains.
For me, my battery drains 0% overnight on airplane mode.

I just want to make sure when you say you turned your phone off you mean you shut it down right? I'm just trying to get a answer out of the way because I have seen so many post go a long way only to find out the original post misinterpreted a phrase. If it was in sleep mode a 20% battery drain isn't terrible. I've seen better and worse. If it's draining while it's shut off then I ask are you using the stock battery? It seems to be a big issue and I could easily see it leaking energy while off or giving misread.

there was an article on the xda homepage posted not that long ago. it was about how battery calabration doesnt effect battery life, but only the battery graph found under settings. basicaly it said that the batterystats.bin file only has to do with that battery graph, it tells the phone whats been eating the battery. here it the link if you want to read the article:
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
anyways back to the point. nope i calibrated my battery a few days ago, so it didnt help

i dont know... and i used to leave it on overnight in airplane mode too with faux's kernel, it drained alot less leaving it on over night then turning it off. but the thing is, leaving you phone on for too long makes it sluggish, so i want to turn it off once in a while to help make it more snappy. I wanted to try that with trinity kernel, but ya thats not really working lool

I don't know what that has to do with anything and I would suggest trinity

Anyone?

I would suggest trying a new battery first. I purchased a couple of 3rd party batteries for $20. If it still drains while the phone is OFF, you have some sort of internal hardware problem.

sometimes it's the ROM, i've tried EaglesBlood, PheonixBlood and i get above then norm battery life. I'm on Xboard's OTA and my battery life is sweet

i'm having the same issue as well even when using 2 different batteries and an external charger (for the battery itself).
'normal' drain on the eaglesblood AOSP is about 20% an hour and when I turn off the phone, remove the battery, put it back in, and turn it back on after an hour, the battery drains till it's almost empty!
maxesxp, did the new batteries work? or was it some combination of rom + kernel that did the trick for you?

Weird I just thoughts about looking for this cause I had this happen for the first time. I was at 40% had no charger around so turned the phone off, turned it on the next morning and was at 2% effing weird!
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

My phone does this too. Some days it will drain only a percent or two and others it will drain like 20-30%. From what I can tell the kernel or something is not turning everything off on the phone. Try turning your phone off the next time you do and remove the battery and then when you go to turn it on put the battery back in and see if it drained then. If it did then it is a problem with the battery and if not it is a problem with the phone. If it is the phone there is not much you can do about that, sorry.

Terrible battery life!

I really hate creating these threads because it makes me look likr a complete noob but I can' figire this out for the life of me. I bought the charge thinking I could use it for a day and change but I have yet to experience this awesome battery life. Even when I got my first day, the battery life was horrible and even after its first charge, it wasnt any better. Do I just have a bad battery or something?
Heres what I remember doing:
-Flash gummycharge day 2 of owning phone (1.8.5) novoodoo kernal
-An issue came up where I couldnt press my power button without the phone freezing
-so at this point I reverted back to a stock ee2 rom
-i then flashed gummycharged once again (same as above)
-after flashing, I charged my battey up, shutdown, wait for 100%, repeat 3x to wipe battery stats/calibrate my battery
So I unplugged my phone at 5:00pm and it is now 7:07pm. In two hours with about an hour of browsing, my phone is at 73%. I have nothing on any of my homescreens just to be sure it wasnt consuming the battery, cdma automatic instead of 4g lte since my area does not support it yet and manual brightness at 15%.
What is it I'm doing wrong?

Download humble 1.25 and your battery woes will be no more my son....
Will take you suggestion and try it out tonight. I dont mean to derail my own thread but is it possible that when I flashed back to stock ee2, it caused my signal to decrease even though I put gummycharged over it later? Ever since I had to reflash because of the power button issue, I noticed a decrease in signal strength (from mid 80s to high 90s). Sorry for all the questions!

Hi,
I saw your Humble ROM and was considering installing it to try to improve battery life as we'll.
What about your ROM conserves battery over the stock rom?
Now that p3droid released 2.3.4 I will certainly have to try it, do you plan to make a version of Humble using this new base?
Thanks for your work, I really am loving this new phone!

If you are getting that bad of battery life, go to EE4 Debloated . Flash P&J OC Kernel. and Undervolt your phone.
Whay would be causing this kind of battery life though?

No telling, depends on how you use your phone and what apps are running.
Thats the thing. I haven't been doing anything other than browsing. I only went to class and browsed for maybe 2 hours max. Everything else is 2% ish other than the dolphin hd browser. If I look at the battery stats, the display is the only thing thats depleting the battery really. I'm starting to think its because I have weak coverage in my area.

I've had similar battery issues with two different Charge units running each ROM/Kernel (except GB). I also live in a weak coverage area where I average 1 to 2 bars, sometimes dropping to 0 and i'm convinced this has to be it. I had written this idea off initially because I previously had ATT and the same weak coverage with them, but nowhere near the same abnormal battery drain...so I guess there must be a difference between the way CDMA and GSM operate in this respect? I'm in a 3G only area and keep the phone locked to CDMA/Auto also.

I am running 1.25 and have had absolutely no improvement to my battery life (strong 4g area in SoCal).
I've just resigned to the fact that I'll get 6-7 hours (even on an extended battery, same results) and have to charge once or twice a day.
Coming from the fascinate I honestly think the battery life is better. Although I turned lte off since we don't have any coverage for it yet. My mind will probably change when we get it. Running stock ee4 rooted with voodoo kernel. My father is running the same thing and also came from the fascinate, he completely agrees.

I had really bad battery life on my phone running the stock rom and gummycharged. With the phone sleeping and only data on, I was losing at least 5% an hour.
I switched to Humble a week ago and my battery life is exceptional. I am ususally looking at 24 hrs with 4g on and longer with it off.
If you do a lot of browsing and keeping your screen on, your battery is going to burn quickly. No matter what ROM you are using. If it's draining a lot of battery in sleep, flash Humble.

Dude, this isn't the fix. I'll flash Humble 1.25 right now and prove to you that it doesn't fix battery issues. Yes, it's less of a battery hog than the other available ROMs, but flashing Humble 1.25 will not fix your battery gremlin.
I wish Danalo, imnuts and the other gurus would spend more time figuring out this battery gremlin. Charging your battery to 100% then wiping battery stats through CWR doesn't work either. I've tried it countless times.
OP, here's another thread regarding the battery issues many people are experiencing - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145161

Don't give up so soon. The battery life on the Charge can be amazing and I know from experience. My experience also shows that there are funky battery issues that pop up when flashing various crap. Flashing an Odin bundle has not worked for me, at all. Wiping battery stats has not worked.
I was running GummyCharged 1.5 with the PBJT kernel and voodoo enabled and got 17+ hours of medium-hard use EASILY. Since then, I flashed the original GB leak, Gummy, Humble, Stock... I cannot figure out what the heck is going on, my battery life is still crap.

It really sounds like signal issues to me. My Charge handles weak mobile signals better than my Thunderbolt, but any cell phone will really crank up the juice draw looking for a tower if it can't find one. In my north county office, my Thunderbolt will drain 25% per hour if I don't keep it near the window where it can get a better signal.
You need to post a lot more details.
Are you on wifi or mobile data? Are you 3G or 4G area? How strong is your 3G/4G signal?
Have you dug into the battery use screens to see what's up?
Grab Spare Parts from the Market if your ROM doesn't have it and look into it's battery statistics...things like wake-locks will really kill the phone.

Maximizing Battery Life

What do you guys do to maximize your battery life? I just can't seem to get decent life. Average is probably 5 hours with heavy usage.
Any recommendations?

The usual - brightness as low as you can stand, radios not in use turned off, screen timeout 15 seconds, 200-1400 conservative governor in SetCPU.
Search AutoKiller in the market -- choose "optimal" profile, so far has given me an extra two hours today over what I got yesterday.
5h of heavy use is good already.
You can tweak your idle batt life, 2g-only, undervolted kernel, avoiding power hungry rom.
Idle battery life is just amazing with stock... just test it over night, 6hrs get 2/3% for me.
I can get 30hrs with 4hrs with screen on, the screen is the key here, i can get 5hrs with 4hrs with screen on too. ;o)

See my signature, stock (rooted and removed soom Google apps) with Trinity, works together just fine
How would you define "heavy" usage?
Also, what does your "battery use" stats say? (Settings - About Phone - Battery Use)
5 hours of truly heavy usage (online gaming, for instance) is actually to be expected.

You can create a custom prl setting. Turn wifi to never sleep when you're at home... Have the prl to auto *CDMA or GSM* Which ever your network is on. (This goes to all Nexus S. users). So you have wifi on with a signal and 3g off. The phone stays in 2g for calls and uses wifi for data. Turn off google location services while your at home, turn off roaming, turn all of that off. I get about 13 hours of battery life with heavy usage. People think wifi drains your battery but it doesn't if you have mobile data turned off. When you have 3g turned on it's constantly searching for a better connection. If you have wifi on and a strong connection it isn't constantly polling.
are there any charging habits that would help prolong battery life? I usually just charge my phone every night cause, if I remember correctly, these batteries don't have a memory or anything. anyone know if that is the smartest thing to do?

I hope you don't mean overnight. I don't know if phones have auto-cutoff feature (a la laptops), but it's safer just not to charge overnight.
I personally use an extension that has a timer built-in. Nifty. Set the timer, plug the phone in, it will automatically start and stop the charging at the predetermined times. I usually time the charging to end right before I wake up, so the battery doesn't stay fully charged for too long. I heard batteries corrode faster when they're fully charged.
When my battery life starts getting shorter than usual, I let them drain until the phone turns off automatically (well I actually try not to get to that point, but seldom succeeded ), and as soon as possible charge it until full.
Usually the battery holds longer then. It has something to do with teaching the battery about the true empty and true full.. or something.....
AFAIK. CMIIW.
doesn't the nexus s have a built in cut-off feature so it will only charge to 95% though? I figure that would take care of the full charge issue. i'm also not sure if lithium ion batteries have a memory, but you could always reset the battery stats if you're on root to compensate for the whole draining and fully charging thing.

Battery stats! That's the word I was looking for No I wasn't referring to the memory effect
I don't know what would happen when the cut-off feature kicks up. My Nexus S still shows a charging icon even a while after full, so I don't wanna risk it.
The best way is by touching the charger unit after a while and see if it's warm/hot. If it is, it's still charging. But you gotta give it time to cool down first (after it's finished charging) Haven't gotten around to it, though. Always forgot to check the charger

lol, I know that my phone for sure won't charge to 100% from watching it, so even after a night of charging it's still at 95%. I've read a few explanations on this forum about the whole not fully charging thing too, so i'm pretty sure that it's like that on purpose.

Cell Standby Battery Drain

I've searched about a million times in 900 different threads, but I still can't find a fix to this issue.
I first noticed this when I flashed MIUI onto my phone. I would get cell standby and cell idle at about 40-50% of battery usage each. Display wouldn't even be shown on the usage! I then figured MIUI wasn't worth it to me, so I flashed CM7. I tried both morfic's and faux's many kernels, nothing seemed to fix the issue. If I would turn the airplane mode on, I'd get battery drain of only like 2%/hour.
So I figured there was something wrong with the CM7 port, so I tried g2xtreme and other GB ROMs, same thing. Finally, I just checked a froyo ROM, same thing again!
So at this point I'm clueless and thinking the phone is completely a POS, but anyways. I'm about to nandroid restore stock 2.2 firmware, and try updating through the LG Mobile Support Tool.
But I have my doubts that this will fix it. I'm curious though if maybe I'm getting this drain because I'm with WIND Mobile in Canada? And this is for the T-Mobile G2X (they're the same phone and both companies use the same radio frequencies). But maybe there's something written in these ROMs to tell the phone to look for the T-Mobile network? Which I obviously won't be able to find in Canada.
Can someone help me locate these settings, if they exist? Or can someone with a Wind phone maybe toss me the WIND stock firmware? Or let me know what ROM they're using without said issue?
Thanks guys!
Edit:: In low signal areas the phone drains like 15-20% per hour, in high signal areas the phone is still pulling like 8%-10% an hour and I'm not even using it! And the weird thing is it only shows 1% time without signal! Something is seriously wrong with this firmware.
Search for betterbatterystats on XDA, install it, enable battery monitoring in MIUI (if that's your daily rom), leave your phone alone for a few hours, then open BBS and look at the partial wakelocks under "since unplugged." There you'll see what's killing your battery.
Everyone experiences worse battery life when reception is bad, but you are still getting terrible drainage in good areas, which means there's something other than reception killing your battery.

I tried that before, and had a crapload of apps "frozen" with titanium backup.
I'm going to try this again, and I'll post a screenshot this time because I don't think I actually understood what betterbattery stats was trying to tell me last time.
If anyone can help me decode it later that would be great!
Just noticed that there's barely anything under partial wakelock that's noticeable.. RIJL Telephony is the highest with 1m 1s 15%.
But it's not increasing very much, only when I get a text message. However, I've dropped about 7% since my last message, and cell standby is increasing climbing up my battery usage from 33% to 42%. It went from 620uah to 657uah.
Edit:: I reset battery stats cause I was unsure if it was corrupted stats. I started at 17% 40 minutes later I'm at 12%. Phone was off 90% of the time. I made a 2.5 minute call and it used 41uah, while cell standby still dominated with 65uah.
However, I turned my phone on for 5 minutes, making total usage 45 minutes, but had the brightness set to max, and in that five minutes it only used 1uah.
Am I missing something here? At this point I don't know if my numbers are normal or not anymore... I'm going to try draining the battery, charging to full, wiping battery stats, and calibrating and see what happens but 65uah to 1uah is a huge difference, I would've thought display would use a bit more than that.
I noticed this morning that having the phone with airplane mode OFF, that my battery dropped 10% in 57 minutes, and after turning the airplane mode ON, the battery dropped 1% in the next hour and 30 minutes. I checked battery stats and nothing was waking up my phone. Anyone have any other suggestions?
I'm going to flash miui and leave it without any apps installed then try this experiment again.

I find these threads interesting because I am always looking for better battery life.
I am running EB 2.3.3
I uninstalled Set CPU and uninstalled Juice Defender. From my experience both hurt my battery life.
I never bothered to measure in airplane mode, because i use my phone to much.
My battery life improved dramatically during stand-by. 1% to 2% drop per hour with wifi on and a slightly bigger drop with wifi off.
I completely wiped the phone before installing EB and the used Titanium Backup to reinstall my apps without the data. I believe some of my previous battery life issues came from restoring data from certain apps.
I have the same phone/carrier. Do you leave 3G turned on? I feel it rapes my battery throughout the day. When I turned it off, it lasts pretty long.
Another problem I have though, is the drain when it is OFF. I went to bed with it at 90% juice and turned it off. I woke up 8 hours later, and it was at 65% when I turned it on. wtf. This only happens sometimes thou.. Other times it doesn't drop too much.

I experience the exact same issue. But for some reason my battery life is more or less the same with 3g off. So I feel like my phone is constantly searching for a different signal or something? I mean if airplane mode affects my battery life that drastically reducing consumption by like 9%/hour then there must be something up

Everyone who's been telling my phone is not sleeping is correct.
Only program is is that my phone's battery stats doesn't say which app is waking the phone? It lists Telephony as #1 with 1m 1s of awake time, and everything else is minuscule. There's gotta be something the phone isn't telling me :S Could it possibly be a hardware issue?
Or is there a better way I can narrow down this issue? I'm in the process of removing all apps.
Just curious, did you 'train' your battery?

Nope, but it's Li-Ion and my impression was these do not need to be trained.
I just emptied it to complete 0 yesterday, and charged it to complete 100% then calibrated it. Today though it was still horrible battery life until I completely wiped and flashed MIUI 1.9.23 then Trinity kernel brand new. I'm installing apps 1 by 1 to see which one caused me so much darn grief :S
All batteries are Li-ion nowadays, but I still feel after 'training' my battery for a week, they last substantially longer than new ones, fresh out the plastic.

I did end up conditioning it, not sure if it helped or if it was cause I flashed a new rom, but everything is finally working in order now

Yes, battery drain is fixed. Also, I was on a completely different baseband for some reason, I was on the o2x baseband, fixed that JUST now, I think that was a part of the reason I was draining my battery like instantly. It was probably looking for a GSM signal!
Thank you for all your help

Yeah I set it to WCDMA Only. Battery life has been awesome lately.

[Q] cm9 kang rom battery file

So, I was using kang's cm9 for a while now, and the the battery messed up something - it turned off while still having half battery displayed, and wouldn't turn on till charging began. I remember from other roms, there was a config file we used to delete when stuff like this happened. Does anyone know which battery file would that be in CM9 Kang?
What are you running Kernel-wise? Faux with DS driver? Otherwise, boot to CWM and under advanced wipe battery stats. Which Kang are you using?
First off, if you're using Faux's DS kernel then that means you were actually out of battery since the DS kernel has bad battery readings. Make sure you're on the fourth update (selfkang3).

Exactly... If you are on ds kernel you will have really funky batt readings.. He states it himself in the op.

So, I am not running the latest beta? I haven't had time to keep with it. Where can I find the latest one?
I've been using the newest KANG for a while now, and the battery life is significantly better than CM7 was. Leaving the phone in standby all night would drain the battery about 30% or so, now it drains 5-10% at best. I've never had the battery readings become all 'funky'. The phone lasts a full drain from 100-0% if I let it, and it takes days to do so.

Ah ha! Find a post from the 20th or the 21st and get SelfKANG3 it has auto brightness and that may help you with general battery life, as far as the odd readings have you wiped battery stats? Though assuming you've charged it by now from what I understand your battery stats would have been erased by now. In anycase, do get SK3.

The funky battery stats are only for Faux's DS kernel, and dang, 30% a night is not right, on GB I only lose about a % per hour I sleep, so 8% overnight.

thank you Wolf. I did update to SK3, altough the fixed bugs were not very big
I could live without the auto brightness. they should fix the video first, that's my main wish. But I recognize all the hard work they put, kudos. Imagine the world without devs.
Пажалуйста, yea, the bug fixes aren't huge, but the auto brightness will help with the battery drain. Another "trick",.Which I picked up from someone else, is to create a profile in Set CPU so that the.clock speed is minimal when your screen is off.

Battery life problems.

Hello, I'm currently running cm 9, however the battery life is just awful
When the phone is on sleep it loses like 1 percent every 5-10 minutes
I am using an extended battery as well, please tell me what to do I was on GB before and the battery was outstanding, I could go on one charge the whole day with heavy usage, now i dont think I can make it through the day with light usage on this
thank you
EDIT: This could be a sleep problem, because when the device is on, the battery is normal
If you flashed the Feb 27 cm9 you should flash proton kernel so you can watch videos. Battery life isn't as good as gb no matter what you do. Also give it some time to settle in. It takes more than a couple hours.
alright thank you... I just flashed the newest version of cm9 a few hours ago, I was flashing a bunch of roms and this one seemed the best... do you know how to force a device into deep sleep cause that seems to be the problem i believe
OK I was just on 20 percent, then i rebooted my phone, and now im on 2 percent... im seriously considering going back to gb
Sounds more like a battery thing? With CM9.? + Proton I'm getting at least a day* with light use. Maybe a bad app or combo of apps? What does BBS say is eating the charge?
* - I say at least a day because I can't not use it for that long.

just the screen and the android system... very interesting thing though is happening
I'm running a bunch of quadrants to get the battery down to 0, and the battery is all the way down to 1%, however it's been on 1% for like 6 quadrant tests... maybe its just a problem with the indicator, however another indicator also says it's at 1%... very interesting
If you are on CM9, I suggest you flash Hefe or Proton.
I use Hefe because according to the posts being made it puts your phone into deep sleep, which means longer battery life.

Definitely a battery problem. This happens to me on one of my batteries but not on another. Time to buy a new one. I haven't tested it fully but it does appear to be just a display issue. Sometimes the bad battery will make the phone display 1% but it will still act as if it had way more than 1% charge left. I haven't done any testing on that regard but that's what it appears to do.

I don't believe it to be a battery problem, because I've been on GB with absolutely no problems and exceptional battery... I just upgraded to ics not long ago, and the battery life instantly screwed up
Have you set the cpu governor to anything silly like performance?
Have you let it charge up fully at least once?
Search xda for "better battery stats" app, use it to see if you're getting deep sleep.
Flash hefe over release 8 and youll have a little better battery. Proton doesnt deep sleep
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
Proton DOES deep sleep. That was one of its major features.
Certain scheduler/governor combinations work better on different kernels, though. If the specific one you like most sleeps better on Hefe, great. If the one you like does best on Proton, great. Just be aware that most issues are either physical or user-inflicted...
In this case, your battery is almost certainly dying. The variance in power over a reboot is a definite tell that your battery is probably swollen. If you can spin it on a table, the cells are starting to die. This does not mean you can't keep using it, but it does mean that your battery life will be irregular. It also means that you'll have significantly "higher" battery levels if you reboot the phone with external power connected, but the battery will discharge very quickly if it hasn't actually reached whatever level it believes it should be at.
