Orange UK OTA update? - HTC Sensation

Hi guys!
Just recieved an OTA notification, when I check the details it says:
"Update: HTC twitter client 20.73 MB"
Is this just the twitter update or more, since 20 megs seems too big!
I havent been here for a couple of weeks, so might have missed news of an important update.
So any idea what this update is? Also if its an important one, do I lose root, s-off etc, and if yes can i get it back easily by revolution etc?
My current software is 1.45.61.4.
Thanks in advance

I'm wet...

I doubt very much if it's ICS, until the OP installs the update we won't know what it is but I'd imagine it's the Orange UK 1.50 update

Why would they push Twitter update OTA? Wouldn't that be an update via market??
Any news as to what this is? Surely can't be ics at 20mb?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium

1.50 OTA update was described as a Twitter update, so I suppose that's just it.

Wonder why It's 20MB then since twitter app is about 4MB

WOW, didnt mean to get you guys all so excited! ;-)
I doubt it would be ICS, this is orange uk we are talking about, they are usually WAY behind the curve, and they really take their time, to add their crapware, and properly screw up the original OS!
SUrely I cant be the only one who has got this?
Anyone else?
Really dont want to just give it a go, since im am rooted and s-offed, and have trimmed some bloatware away, so doubt it would install anyway (a la the last update which I had to restore to the original ROM, update, and then reinstall everything..)
Ill wait some time, to see what others say here, and then I'll do a nandroid backup and try the install.
Meanwhile please keep the info coming, and you guys just enjoy your excitement! ;-)

First of all, the "twitter" in twitter update means the HTC Twitter client Peep as well as the sense twitter integration.
Secondly, although its touted as Twitter update, it updates a hell lot of files on the system along with the hboot and boot.img. So its not just "twitter update"

it would be twitter, the friendstream and htc sense twitter, thats around 20mb aint it?

So, in short words, should I update or not?
(never use twitter or peep, but if its gonna screw up hboot etc, what do I lose?)

If your on here i would of thought you would be rooted and s-off by now anyway and running a custom rom. Would'nt do the ota in case they have done something to the h-boot.

I wouldn't update. If it was just Twitter I think a market update should do the trick. Since it's an ota I guess it updates more then just some apk's

I got a 14mb OTA update to install when I checked on my stock recovery rom I backup. I'm rooted with s-off by revlou tool. tried yo install aborted fail. I'm guessing cause of root ans s-off. Read about andriod recovery manager to install OTA updates, however having difficulties undrerstanding process. TMO HTC Sensation 4g . I think it was for bug and enhancements, dont know long it was there, I just saved 14mb on sd and laptop. can anyone advise me.

Actually now that i think of it, would a nandroid backup save the hboot etc files? Dont think so, cauz in my mind it only saves a snapshot of the OS+data+settings.
Cuz if this update screws around with those, then my plan of nandroid backup for risk free testing wouldnt really work!
PS
And since its gonna be monday, I hope other people will see and reply to this post. I cant believe I could be the ONLY one to receive this notification. NO one else on orange uk, or with an orange branded handset?

Lets you choose
After I just finished a few hours ago reading every post in the other thread and following all those steps!
Way to go, jiqqaman! This will help out quite a few folks on here.
Awesome. I rooted my phone earlier (at least I think I did) and I can't get any rom to install. I think it has to do with the amon-ra recovery so I'm glad this will let me choose.
Does it matter that my evo may already be rooted?
Damn your quick.
Wow Amazing if this works I like very much. Great work put up a more prominent donation button

also jigga, i noticed the first step is a factory reset. is there any way to back up any of my apps and/or data before doing this considering i dont have root privileges at the moment.
Will this do full NAND unlock?
Sorry if that is a noob question.

I dunno anything bout unrevoked , but this doesnt give you the latest radio/wimax that the 1.47.651.1 OTA has. Theres a guide that shows you how to add the latest radio/wimax somewhere on the forum.
I'm using this as my very first post here.
On my old evo I used simple root and it was amazing! I had to return the old evo and get a new one, and as luck would have it it came with the new update.
I can't wait for this new simple root to be uploaded, I keep checking this thread every 5 minutes.
Anyway, one this program is up, running and working I assure you I will be clicking the donate button.
Thank you for the work and effort you are putting into this.

well unrevoked basically let you do anything root would except remove bloatware and flash roms
cuz what i was planning to do was install the update directly from my phone and then root with this method .. if i do that will my phone have the latest radio wimax added on to it already?

Yes to both.
If all you did was root, you should be able to keep it when flashing. Others have reported that it stays. If you flashed a custom recovery though, it would be wise to flash back to stock first before updating. You can get root after by flashing CWM with odin and then installing the zip file for root.

Same thing here. I have the SGSII Skyrocket and the update for 2.3.6 was available to me four days ago. Weird that some folks do not have the update available OTA.
As some people have mentioned, there might have been an issue with the update and maybe it was pulled but it does exist. I have no reason to lie.

Has anybody in the UK received the OTA 4.0.4?

I recently picked up an S One and havent rooted or unlocked or anything... well, I downloaded the update file thinking that I could manually install it by going into the stock bootloader, but Im getting a message saying cant mount sd card.

I'm branded with T-Mobile UK, they said to a One X owner that the Sense 4.1 update would be coming in OCTOBER! I haven't received the 2.21 or 2.31 update can't can't run the RUU as my CID is not included in the android-info.txt file... (T-MOB005)
And keep in mind I haven't even got the 1.78 update, still on 1.77.110.5...
I wish so badly that RUUs would work on branded devices...
And the store employees don't know cr*p, they said Jellybean was coming in September and that you could downgrade if you didn't like it... that explains everything!

Update to 4.0.4
I have not received an update yet... Unlocked HTC One S.
However; I downloaded the update package off here but I cannot boot into recovery mode - does anyone else have this problem? I hold volume down then power up but phone keeps restarting normally
Cheers.

Confused what update is this ?

I'm on SCv7 and I checked for updates and got this :

Kinda confused is it just the radio update ?? Because going by size doesnt look like whole ROM.Can anyone confirm what is this please.
i see the same thing...curious indeed...
perhaps Moto threw us a bone and because its a Dev leak its an incremental update to full OTA... HA
I suggest downloading and not installing (well, you probably won't be able to anyway unless you are on stock ICS) - but then go to /cache folder and copy the update to your sdcard and/or computer and open it to look inside...
I am curious about what this is also... definitely too small for the entire ICS package... which system version do you have?
downloading...
i did also notice there is a release notes URL in the notification, though it brings you to the crappy Motohelp browser page and i'm too busy munching on lunch to follow it through...
btw I too am on SCV7 w/ System version 67.21.123.MB865.ATT.en.US
EDIT: I have it downloaded and sitting on my HD if any dev wants to poke at it. Let me know if/how you want it uploaded.
EDIT2: Attached a listing of files so you can compare sizes and such if that helps.
@seeyoudouble thanks for downloading. I was about to start the download and up it.But can you it please and send to some dev
Thanks in advance.
I would take a look...
It seems like an update for the leak (or, to be more precise, for the Moto devs on that first leaked ics build) - it will probably update you to the non-downgradable leak#2 - NO ONE SHOULD INSTALL THIS YET!
Sent from my phone's mind
I also have the same message, did somebody tried to install this? By the way im using ATT MB865 ICS leak rooted.

It is not wise to install this yet. Let the devs have a good look at it first.
I too have the message. ICS LEAK #1 rooted.

i definitely do not plan on updating as I am quite content with my phone the way it is until CM10 achieves maximum sexiness...
i merely wanted to give those that care an opportunity to chew on it and see if there is anything worthwhile...
Everyone on the first leaked AT&T ICS build will be receiving this OTA update notice.
!!!DO NOT INSTALL IT!!!
...or you will be locked down even more and definitely not able to return to GB - ever.
More to come...
This has the mbloader_ns.bin again????? Been looking at this and temped to try , tempted but not sure yet.....
I've got the notification, too.
Non trap version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879475
Well, Moto is at it again..
All AT&T users on the first ICS leak build will receive a notification for an OTA update package. This new package will bring your device up to the current ICS build that Moto is planning on releasing officially to everyone very soon. This new mini-update package will replace your cdt.bin with the same one found in the second ICS leak, and lock you in a state of no return to GB. No FXZ will be able to help you...
Yes, there is a mbmloader_ns.bin included in this update, but again, it is useless to us at this point - it is only for Moto devs who are using NS bootloaders - but, it appears this update will install for anyone on the first leak, regardless of your bootloader status. So, you have been warned..
DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE IF YOU LIKE BEING ABLE TO FXZ BACK TO GB
Well I really got nothing to loose and gave it a shot no go for me update failed..... Even used stock recovery to try and fail verify check?????? O well now i can roll back for OTA still!!!!!

Wait, were you on fresh and clean stock ICS when you tried to install? or have you modded it? BootMenu and/or Safestrap can also cause install failures...
You can check /cache/recovery/last_log to see why it failed..

Yea.. BootMenu will botch the installation. Also won't install if you have removed certain system apps (some seemingly just bloat).

OK, I am on the very first ics leak. I want to end up completely ics stock. This is my everyday phone and I have an old captivate for Roms and such.
Is there any reason not to install the 46 mb update? Yes I understand I will not be able to go back or mess with boot loaders etc. I have no desire to do so.
Alternatively, I would script back to GB and OTA back up to ICS.
Thanks,

I would not install it just in case Motorola decides to change something and you end up on this locked down version with no way forward or back.

Well... that's your choice completely. But, at this point we honestly have no idea if it can actually be installed by average users on the first leak (I say this because everyone who has tried has failed for one reason or another; also because inside is only an mbmloader_ns.bin, no "hs" like we have, but from the looks of the updater-script, it seems like everything else should install as long as it passes the patch checks for existing files).
We just started warning right away because, yes, this would, in theory, put you up to the version of ICS we found in the latest leak. Which, for all intents and purposes, seems to be pretty close to the real deal (it's been on the server for at least a week straight now).
Which leads me to a question for you: why not just wait for the full official ota then? Probably pretty soon from the looks of things..
But, yes, I believe you could install that update on a clean system of the first ICS leak.
