[Q] How do you downgrade from Rooted ICS to Rooted Gingerbread? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys! i have been searching through all the forums on xda and google on how to downgrade 4.0.3 to gingerbread. And no luck. I have Rooted BM ICS, and i have flash some other ics and quite frankly all are buggy so i want to go back to gingerbread since i cant find a fully stable ICS (Battery, ram etc.) Btw i have i9020T and cwm.

If you unlocked the bootloader and is rooted, the easiest way is to download rom manager from the market, choose a rom from the dev section and install it.

Yes in rom manager peter alfonso has stock images. Just download and install
This will unroot ur phone but will keep the bootloader unlocked. From there you can reroot and have gb or a gb rom of choice.

you dont root when you install a custom rom. they come rooted. so you can just flash whatever you want, when ever you want.
if you need a refresher, when you change roms you need to format everything, format data/cache and dalvik cache, (in advanced) then find the rom and install from zip. anymore questions ill help you out. just pm me.
and research your questions first. this place has a wealth of knowledge.

[Q] Flashing a custom ROM the official way?

Is it not possible to code a custom ROM so as to then flash it the same way an official ROM is flashed?
Greetings, fellow Oklahoman.
What do you mean "the official way"? RUU? PD98IMG.zip?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. What I mean is how an official ROM is flashed when an upgrade is issued. A notice is given that there is an upgrade and you download and install the upgrade. Can a custom ROM not be installed this way? Rather than having to go through the process of rooting the phone and then flashing one of the available custom ROMs. I would think it would be possible to issue a rooted ROM as an upgrade flash.
Wow. U must be truly a noob. The only way u can flash a custom rom is that u have to be rooted and have s off achieved first. And once u achieve that, you are talking about an over the air update. Which that only can happen from an unrooted totally stock phone. The only thing that comes close to that is an update from rom manager, in which u have to be rooted first before rom manager will work properly, which will download and install a custom rom of your choosing.
In other words, you have to be rooted and s off in order for u to do anything outside of stock

I think the OP was asking if its in anyway possible to flash a custom rom via RUU not OTA. In the same way that ROMS for Samsung devices can be cooked to flash via ODIN as opposed to CWM...
Moved to Q&A

[q] gingerbread.uckl2

I am one of the few that have been able to upgrade to the Official GINGERBREAD.UCKL2, 2.3.6, Kernal 2.6.35.7-I997UCKL2-CL806505. But now i need a Root. Are there any options out there. I dont use it for roms i just like to be able to remove apps and other stuff that being rooted lets you do.
No, there isn't... you have to flash a rooted kernel, then you will lose video, or you could flash one of the custom uckl2 Tom's with everything working. The official update is crap anyway

Your going to want to do some research, if you upgrade via fxz I believe you have no safe way to get back to GB....
However...
If you upgrade to leak 1 via jimbridgmans method there is a safe way to get back....
After deciding which method to use, install atrix bootstrap and pick your ROM... I say bootstrap cause its the most supported...
Good luck and enjoy....

If your phone is not from AT&T, and you install the upgrade that Pzyduck upload, you won't be able to downgrade to GB.

Ok, i was angry. I DO NOT HATE ANDROID. But it's obviously not my favourite. I just don't like its UI. I want XPERIA-ICS as XPERIA TimeScape UI has the best UI for me, and Sense too (but we don't have any stable working sense ROM's).
So can someoen rpovide me older version of CWM for old baseband? I can flash it with recovery flasher, and please let it be in .img format, as recoveries in .zip format cannot be flashed.
I Have CWM in ZIP format, but i cant flash with with AmonRA,wich im using. So hwo to remove amonRA,and install CWM properly?

Flash cwm over amonra.. same.. like you flash a rom through recovery.
You can later theme your phone just like xperia or sense.

Yes you will be able to install any fonts.
For installing fonts you just had to be rooted, there isn't any limitation of which android version you are using, I myself able to install fonts from gingerbread to JB 4.2.2

Before messing up with something, go into recovery and choose backup, after backup is done, start messing up, if by chance you go into bootloop, then go into recovery again, and do a restore. Done!
thanks man
