i also noticed whenever i open kies the mtp app says initializing and it seems it keeps restarting
Have you downloaded the drivers from Samsung?

yes i have im not sure as to why my phone is doing that
I have the same problem. Tried everything in Win 7 32bit both drivers... the one in samsung page and the first one before those... CANT get the captivate recognized by my PC. I tried with at win xp and it works... ANY HELP?
It might be the USB cable. Is it connected directly or through a hub? You might also try plugging it into different port.

i have windows 7 64 bit and here is what i did
1. go to Settings>Application>Development and turn usb debugging on.
2. After you connect it to the comp pull down our notifications menu and select USB connected. It will ask you if you want mount select yes and then go to my computer and it should be there.
If you have kies installed you shouldn't have any driver issue since installing that software properly is best way to insure you have the proper drivers installed. Try uninstalling Kies and installing it again with just the mobile box ticked it should work. I am also running Win7 32bit and use Kies without a problem.

Ofcourse you can Mate.
Here below is the link to dowload the Samsung USB drivers. It works with our SGR too. Just Download and Use them.
LINK
Remember to turn on USB Debugging on your Phone. So the next time you connect you can choose the option to mount it as Disk Storage
it says destination not found when i click on the removable disk icon :/
Hmmm. When you connect USB what does it says on Phone? USB connected or MTP connected?
Did you installed the mentioned drivers?
After connecting phone check in Windows device manager if there is any 'Unknown Device' - connected.

okay all i did is tricked my system into thinking that i am using sp 3...there is a small tweak you have to run in regedit. i guess the problem is with sp2. now it is recognizing and kies is installing as well.

Windows 8 HTC drivers ADB

I have scoured the internet and xda and have not found a solution. I am trying to unlock my bootloader, so I can install ROMs and whatnot, on my HTC One S. However, the device is not recognized by adb, even though the normal drivers are installed through HTC sync. I cannot install any additional driver through any other way.
Basically, I just need to know if anyone has a solution to getting the HTC One S to recognize with adb on Windows 8, or any alternate way to get a token.
I have done this many times before on windows 7, and even used adb for other devices on Windows 8, but cannot get the One S to read.
..and unfortunately my Windows 7 machine is in need of repair.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Adb still worked after I went from 7 to 8. Uninstall drivers and install android sdk which has required drivers. I've never used HTC sync due to its suckness. You can also google the download for just the drivers without any extra software. There are multiple devices that have adb drivers for download here on xda aswell.
Good hunting
But as far as driver compatibility nothing has changed since the update

the drivers wont work until htc/Microsoft updates them. doesn't work on my windows 8 pro, I had to installed a virtual machine to get it to work with windows 7.
Definitely nofun that the htc drivers seem to be the big issues. Whendid not have trouble with the kindle orsamsung. Did update as much through the sdk, and tried manually installing the win 7 drivers, and more andno luck. So guess Ill be waiting.
Works for me on windows 8 pro....don't know what you are talking about

Thats good to hear that there is a way to get it working. What drivers did you install?
Are you looking for a driver that will work for when you are in bootloader? I used a Samsung driver and it worked fine.

Did this allow detect in adb? not just for windows recognizing the device?
Ive come to find that adb will recognize the device, but not in fastboot mode. Which is the killer, cause thats the only mode I really need it to be recognized in.
I use both ADB and Fastboot on my W8, and never had a problem. Worst case scenario, if you install the drivers but you still have an exclamation mark next to the device in device manager, try and install the Android USB drivers on a W7 machine and copy the files on your W8. Then go to device manager and update the driver, and point to the folder you just copied. This should do.

I've found in some pages that HTC has already uploaded their HTC Sync and that is now compatible with Windows 8. However, still not working for me in 8 Pro.

I've uploaded from W7 to W8 pro and my now I'm not able to find a driver that fits my computer. It's a very strange situation.
I have tried pretty much everything lol, its not worth it if you are installing a RUU then windows 8 suddenly stopped detecting your phone then you have a brick. I would just wait till htc releases drivers for windows 8. or installed windows 7 through VMware, like I did.
Just have the device for 1 day and had some issues. Is there any working solution for this? I've spend some time searching and reading, I tried alot of drivers (HTC, from android-sdk and so on)...with all the same issue. Windows 8 recognizes the device as My HTC BUT...adb doesn't. When issuing "adb devices" command, returned list is blank.
Finally I've installed recovery and unlocked on a Windows 7 machine but I don't want to do that each time I flash a ROM (and I flash alot).
Also short question... I didn't saw anywhere clearly stated but from what I've read, I understood there's no S-Off for One S right? I'm comming from Desire S and everything there was flawless.
It is working on my Windows 8 Pro without an issue. I installed the driver which comes together with the android sdk.
1. Open device manager
2. Select the android device with yellow sign
3. right click and select "Update Driver Software ..."
4. select browse my computer for driver software
5. select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
6. select have disc and browse for the "android_winusb.inf" in the android sdk folder
7. select Android ADB Interface and press next
8. select yes, ...
-> adb driver is installed and device should now work with adb.
Best regards,
dexi

Just remove your battery, plug the fone to the computer through USB, you will hear some sound repeating from computer, so open devices and printers you will see Omap device appearing and disappearing, just click right on it you will get properties, so inside open drivers, inside the opened pop-up windows click on change settings, so now go click on up-date drivers, don't let Windows choose it for you, click on the second one when inside the pop-up click on floppy disk it will let you pick drivers from where you put it on your computer it should be this one usb_drv_windows,

is there another good guide i can follow? maybe there is a step i need to do before usb install? This guide assumes the usb drivers will come with the SDK but the only data the SDK tries to update is itself to SDK15 which the guide specifically mentioned not to do.

that has the same issue
i cannot get usb connectivity in for the fast boot mode
from the rootkit the when i plug in my device even after installing the universal usb drivers i think windows is installing something else. Thus stopping me from accessing it while in fastboot mode
Not really sure what to do here. USB debugging enabled and everything all the guides are pretty easy to follow and have the same steps.
Google PdaNet, download and install it after attaching your phone to pc via usb. It will also install device driver... I think it is 'android 1.0' driver issue...

nope didnt work
just so you know when i plug in the phone with debugging on i have 'android composite adb interface' installed
i have removed all the drivers from this computer previously. i can do it again though.
after installing pdanet i have 'android 1.0' pop up under other devices with an exclamation on it in device manager...i don't know if that is normal or not?
how do i know when this is working? i always try to run "oem fastboot unlock" which goes to "waiting for device" but will i no longer see the
USB control Init
USB control init end
??
It is the same issue of android 1.0 driver which i also faced in win8... You have to install android 1.0 driver manually from device manager

so if i go to install the drivers from the pdanet folder if i tell device manager to search the winusb folder it says "cannot find drivers for your hardware" and if i dont search and say have disk - i chose 'android device' then the file in android_'winusb' file but it says "specified location does not have information about your hardware"
so i cannot get it to work.
This is on XP and win7 (2 different computers). I prefer the XP one for this though
