[Q] HELP!! i wiped my cache and sd card partition... - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, to make the long story short...
basically, I have no cache partion.
I was rooting my nexus s and flashing a rom everything was fine until I retardedly pressed wipe cache partition in clockwork recovery so now i can still boot up normally but i can't do anything as you all no, the nexus s doesn't have an external card slot, so my phone says that I haven't got an sd card inserted.
Is there any way to bring back the cache partition and how could i make it recognise it as the sd card?

The problem above seems to have fixed itself but now I have another problem. I have flashed MIUI rom and I don't know where the superuser app has gone since I rooted it. So now I can't flash a newer version of CWM and I'm stuck with this rom. I have downloaded the CWM 5.x.x.x.x from the other thread but I am not able to flash it even with update.zip. I seem to be unable to flash anything at the moment because in CWM it just aborts everything because the 'cache' partition is not there. Also when I go boot up normally into MIUI, I can't turn wifi on, everytime I change it to on, it just won't let me and it says error below the switch. Is there anyway to fix this at all?

I think you need to go back into clockwork mod recovery, go to mounts menu, make sure sdcard is mounted. If you can't mount it, you'll have to format it. If you can mount it, then do it, then go to mount usb, and hook up to a computer and back up everything you have in your sdcard folder just to be safe. You can now flash your ROM again.
If you have nothing in your sdcard folder when you connect to the computer, download an undelete program that works with flash drives, and see if it can restore your files.

thx for the suggestion, but I have tried that already and in clockworkmod it says that I can't mount or format the partition as because they don't exist so I don't have any idea what to do.
Also I am able to boot my phone into the rom I have flashed but when I try to turn on the wifi, it gives me and error and turns off, is there a way to solve this at all?

can you use SD partition in CWM to create it again?
Just throwin it out there, not sure if it would work or not?

I have CWM 3.0.0.0.0 so I am not sure about the other versions and this one only allows me to partition up to 4gb so not really useful on the nexus s.
thx anyway

do you mean flash recovery through fastboot with cmd? I tried that but in cwm or in MIUI it doesn't flash, it just says waiting for device, so I am guessing the usb connection is not working properly either. I can transfer files though if that is any help...

Then u need to install the proper drivers for your device

Try reflashing Clockwork Mod Recovery.

Do that, and if you have the means, try to check out the external sd on some other device to see what's going on. I'd start with pulling the battery for a bit and try flashing the backup again.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but if you didn't flash anything because of misfiling xboarder's rom, there was no reason to use the backup in the first place.

Where did you put your nandroid - internal or external SD? They would have been determined by the recovery option you chose - Internal or External SD. Your stock ROM would download the Xboarder ROM to internal in any case, but your nandroid location depends on the choice above.
Since you did a total wipe, you do not have a ROM installed, so you will not be able to boot up, but you DO NOT have a brick.
You could flash the Recovery again with the Oneclick Recovery tool and choose internal, and then you could flash the Xboarder ROM. After that, see if you can find your backup (in the clockworkmod folder).

I didn't know that a wipe from cwm clears out the rom. I only ever wiped before flashing something else so I assumed it was more like a factory reset.

As far as I know, the wipe data/factory reset is exactly that.
There's also a wipe system function, which wipes the entire ROM also. It seems he did that also.
As for fixing the phone, what gaww said haha. If xboarder's mod isn't there, then in recovery while the phone is plugged in, mount the sd card, and put a rom on there using windows explorer or whatever, then disconnect and you should be able to flash it.

Boot into recovery, go down to mount, and mount usb. Then find the file on your internal sd and move it over to the external sdcard. I have had to do that a few times when I forgot to move the file.

can CWM recovery not see the internal SD card for the skyrocket

WTF is going on, why has this (in the history of this phone) apparently never been asked? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills over here, just trying to flash a simple rom.
i can access mine through CWM.
yes yes, the only thing i noticed that is different on this phone is that when i make a nandroid it puts it on my external sd instead of my internal but it still sees my internal.
If cwm is not recognising the internal sd card....you have a corrupt partition. You need to odin
Stock. Tar boot into stock recovery wipe data/cache 3 times each reboot. Then root/ flash cwm recovery back onto the phone and then wipe and flash your rom

Are you getting this message after you root the device? I had this same issue and realize I needed to first root the device, open ROM manager to give it root access then reboot. After that it was OK.

I really don't understand why people think when they reset their phone/wipe data and then try to reboot their phone everything will be okay. You have some options. First, since I'm assuming you deleted everything off your SD card, you don't have a back-up available so you will need a computer or some other way to get a ROM zip onto your SD card. First thing, hold the vol. up and power button to boot into HBOOT. From here you will able to get into recovery. From recovery you can either mount your SD card and place another ROM onto your sd card and flash as normal or you can restore your back-up provided you didn't delete it. Another way, which I have no experience in, is you can boot into HBOOT via abd. No idea how to do it but that will also require a computer. If you can't get into Recovery but you can get into HBOOT, I know there is PD98IMG that you can flash via HBOOT that will give you a working ROM.

Unless you know of another way to get a zip file onto your sd card without a working ROM already or a computer, please let us all know haha, until then you'll need a computer..sorry bud!
in the future, if you ever reset or data wipe (not cache or dalvik cache wipe) always always always flash a new ROM or restore a back-up, as you can tell nothing awesome happens!
thank you not a noob but don't know everything. Thank you again. But if I had a good rom on there and i did what I said why would it not just delete the data on the sd card and then boot up again? Just wondering why. Thank you.

I'm assuming you did the factory reset and not the wipe data from recovery option, so I'm not sure exactly what happens scientifically with the phone itself but when you did it, the reset function probably reset some system files or something on the phone in addition to wiping your SD card. While wiping your SD card won't cause this to happen (I wipe my card from time to time leaving only the clockwork files for my back-ups and photos), whatever the factory reset does to the phone, it changed something that caused the ROM to become unstable and consequently not boot.
Ok thank you. I learn from my mistakes lol thank you again.

To answer your question, sure you can do it without a PC, use a MAC
Bustin' your chops. But in reality, if your SD card is empty you'll need to get a ROM downloaded to the SD, and if your phone won't boot then you won't be able to do it from your phone, so you'll need a computer. Once you have a ROM downloaded to the SD, boot to recovery and flash. This is most easily accomplished by booting to recovery, going to mounts and storage, Mount USB Storage. Now your computer will recognize the SD as a mass storage device. Copy the ROM to the SD, unmount mass storage, flash .zip from SD, choose .zip, flash away

Help! Device won't recognize internal SD card. :(

Okay so I have a problem, I was on CM10 nightlies and realized I hadn't updated in awhile so I went to flash another nightly. Being the careless person I am I clicked the link and downloaded and flashed the most recent ROM uploaded without realizing it was CM9. This put me into a bootloop. I went into fastboot and did a factory restore to fix the bootloop but the restore restores me to CM9. That's not the main problem though, my internal SD card isn't recognized by the phone so I can't even flash another ROM. Please help. :3

Nope, that's the problem. I formatted everything already. Also, I don't have CM10 on my internal SD. I don't have any ROMs actually.

Have you tried going into the storage settings and make sure sdcard is mounted? And have you tried to USB Mount from recovery to your computer to verify that windows sees it and it isn't a hardware failure

That leads me to believe it may be a hardware issue. I'll see what I can find out
When you say settings app, you mean inside of recovery, right?
Can you see if you can mount the storage in adb

Oh I thought you meant the actually settings app. But mounting in recovery doesn't work either. And it shouldn't be a hardware issue, it was working just fine yesterday before I got stuck in that boot loop. And my phone isn't recognized in adb. :3 Everything is broken! Haha
So you can boot into your ROM, you can boot recovery, but you can't access storage..
What happens if you do 'adb devices'? If nothing shows up go install the aokp/cm10 drivers. It may work for cm9

You can RUU 1.85
Sent from the abstraction layer.
If you did a factory reset in hboot (as opposed to in recovery) it wipes your SDCard without formatting it. I did this once too, and if you're in the same boat, try the solution in this thread:

HTC One X Evita Issue

I have S-On. I'm running the latest AOKP build for my phone. All was well but I wanted to flash MIUI Rom. I flashed the boot.img and then tried to flash the rom. I use TWRP. I wiped the cache and dalvik as usual. I have been flashing roms for awhile now but not the MIUI one. When I did the phone rebooted in to fastboot mode. I tried to go to recovery but my recovery wasn't there. I was able to reboot my phone and the AOKP rom was in tact and appeared to be running even though I tried to flash the MIUI. I navigated to ES file explorer and is says the SD card isn't mounted. Everytime I try to boot to recovery my screen goes blank and I have to use the power button depressed to get it to restart. I then used fastboot flasher 2.4 to try to flash the TWRP recovery again. It appeared to take and I got the words fastboot USB. I thought for sure problem was solved. After my phone rebooted again the SD card wasn't mounted and still isn't. I am able to use the phone and AOKP seems to be running as intended but the SD card won't mount. After I flashed TWRP again it still doesn't boot into recovery. I get an EACCES permission failed when I try to move anything to the card or try to access it. I tried team Nocturnal's method for the SD Fix but it didn't work. Am I going to have to flash an RUU file? If so, where can I get that from? Any help????
It looks like your sd is corrupt. Did you factory reset in bootloader? You didn't mention doing a full wipe when you flashed the ROM, you only mentioned cache and dalvik cache, you should always wipe cache/dalvik cache/factory reset in recovery when flashing a ROM. Also, which MIUI did you flash?
Sent from my Evita
I dont believe I did. Using trwp promts me and i follow that. Now i cant get to recovery or flash it. Any other options?

You might need to RUU but I'm not even sure if that's going to help with your sd problem. It's worth a try though. Run the RUU, flash TWRP, format your sd card. Make sure you have s-off before you run any RUU though or you'll brick.
