So most (all?) Android phones all you to enter in SIP credentials from settings>call>Internet call settings. I have a few SIP accounts that I have entered, but it only seems to initialize when I am on wifi. Given that I regularly have 4G service I would like to be able to receive incoming calls on these accounts. Is there any way to disable to wifi requirement? I find it strange that this is still enabled given that I am running a non stock ROM!

BesT THING TO DO IS DELETE YOUR setting and download csimple or the link underneath here and with this software you can use your 4g or 3g service for internet calling.beside i had the same problem it wouldn't let me make call through hsdpa or 3.5g. so after downloading everytrhing is working perfectly.

In all stock and custom ROMs that I have tried Internet Calling is available on WIFI only.
You would therefore need a third party app such as cSipsimple, Sipdroid, Bria or Acrobits.
You also need to check if you provider allows SIP calls. I am on Vodafone UK and they allow it only to customers with 900 minutes(or more) monthly plan, others are blocked.

I was considering using CSimple, however it is my understanding that it must be used with a 3rd party hosted pbx (or your own pbx of course). Can it be used standalone on the phone?

Well, if the following instructions are followed you can enable it regardless of whether your carrier allows it. However, I dont feel comfortable making the changes suggested in the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354838
All the apps in my post are standalone and do not require any hosted PBX. You will need username, password and SIP server info from your SIP provider.
The link you have provided will enable the internal SIP client of Android to work over 3G/H, which is what you have asked in the openning post.
It will not enable SIP if your mobile provider blocks it

So I decided to try out Csipsimple and it seems to do the trick. However, I would prefer to use the native app if possible do to more efficient battery use (allegedly). If anyone can create a flashable zip from my original link that would be great.
The ROM that I am using has been prepared by someone who does not post it on XDA.
It's called SENSITY and it's based on the European stock ROM 1.xx.401.x.
This Chef has actually created a flashable ZIP file for this purpose. Link:
http://www.multiupload.com/OEQMIVKJYW.
He has tested it only on his own ROM, but THINKS it will work on any rom based on the above.
If you want to test it, make a NAND backup first and give it a try.

Thanks bud! Just so I am clear, is that zip supposed to enable SIP calling while on the carriers network (using my current ROM) or is it a whole new ROM with that function enabled?
It is JUST to enable Internet (SIP) Calls from your native application.
The guy just used the instructions in the link that you had provided and produced a ZIP file that would lift the WiFi only restriction.IT IS NOT A NEW ROM. You would retain your cuurent ROM. Once you have flashed it, let us know if it worked.

Thanks, I will test it out shortly and get back to you.
I flashed the ZIP file from my post above and it worked. It removed the Wifi only from the native SIP Client (Settings>Call>Use Internet Calling).
However, I did not find this application to be user friendly.
1. There is no indication whether the account has successfully registered with the SIP provider.
2. When using multiple providers, you would need to go back to settings each time you want to change the account to be used.
Third party applications do show state of account registration and let you choose the account to be used from the dialler screen.
For now, I will stick with Acrobits and CsipSimple.

Thank you for reporting back on this, I still have not had the opportunity to flash it myself. However, I did want to point out that the native Android app does support the functions you just mentioned. You can check the status of each SIP connection by going to settings>call>Internet call settings. Once there, select "use internet calling" and change it to "ask for each call". Also be sure that you have "receive incoming calls" checked if you want to do more than just place calls. In either case thanks for the link, I will try both methods and see if one has a significant advantage.

You need to sign up for a VOIP account on VoipBuster.com or VoipStunt.com or some other such service provider, then configure your Voip app on your device with those username/password details from the account. You should then be able to use your device for Voip calling or Voip SMSing...

I could'nt get that working either.
The easiest way is to use SjPhone client. The interface is a bit dated but it works. Another option is Sling, but its sound quality is atrocious, although the interface is better.
Not familiar with "sling" could you plz pass me a link? thnxs

No, mine is a Dopod U1000. Voip should be the same on all WM6 devices.

I have also got a Ameo 16G from T-Mobile Germany. You dont want to install an extra program, because WM6 support VOIP according to Microsoft. If you cannot find the function, just because the device producer has bloced it. I have installed a plugin for SIP setting, it was called destr0_VOIP_WM61___SIP_Config.cab, if you cannot find it, pm me your email address, I can send it to you.

I had tried this before but it never worked for me. I think it may work for extremely limited ISP.
Are you able to make call with it and have good voice quality at both ends?
I have tested it on WIFI, it can work on my x7510. Afer installation, there is a new program named sip config tool in your programs, there you should input SIP informations, such as SIP server user name password, next step you can find a new window at the telephone setting named internet, here you can choose when to use VOIP. But I do think, the voice quality of the VOIP can not make me satisfied.
if you install Skype for PPE, it automatically does VOIP, either WiFi or 3G
I now use AGEphone mobile, which has good skin, user interface, and voice quality.
works great

Hi.
Lookin for Skype app working with 3UK 3G network.
As many of u knows 3UK users have free Skype.
Standard app cant connect thru 3G
Found an Skype app for 3UK but only for android.
Anyone knows about WM version ???
Help much appreciated.
errr??? I have a skype 3.0 gold cab which I searched for on the forums and it works fine via 3G on my HD2 with O2???
It took about five mins to connect the first time, but subsequently connects within 10seconds over 3G (wifi disabled).
TBH no network wants skype 3G traffic - only way to get it over 3G is either sanctioned as 3UK do, or via jailbroken iphones. That's one reason why skype pulled WM6.5 support - because they could not guarantee to lock it down to wifi as they can on iphone.
Plz read the thread carefully, i stated 3UK not O2.
Thats the difference. Big one.
Any one else?
Edit: And im lookin for any version, not newest. Any.
I am in UK and on 3 network.
Skype V3 for WM works fine and connects perfectly over 3G. You don't need a specific 3 version...

My skype v3 after 60 sec or so, showing me a cant connect error.
Any ideas?
my point was to leave it for a long time - it appeared not to connect but eventually did regardless of network and versions.
The OP is referring to the specific skype through the 3 network app that is found on 3 issue phones.
There is nothing that allows this as 3 don't support the HD2 and so there is no model specific app.
Winmo skype does not have the facility to dial a "local" based number which is how the 3 network accesses the skype service for free through its own dedicated servers.
It may be possible to extract a 3 version app from another winmo model that 3 do support, but, then would it install on the HD2?
BTW Skype connects through any 3G network or WiFi by default.

Hi!
I use Lowcaller quite a lot for international calls. I would be interested in knowing whether anybody else is using the same app, on which ROMs, etc...
Anyone?

Hi, yes I'm using it on CleanEX UniQ 1.x (I believe it was you who recommended it to me while I was on stock!)
I've also started using Spiek (sp?) Mobile, developed by someone on XDA for direct calls via my SIP account when I'm on guaranteed 3g/HSDPA to save my minutes.
LowCaller is an absolute MUST HAVE app for anyone with a WM Phone and a SIP account, no two ways about it!

Hey, yes I do remember...
So... UniQ is WM6.5. Do you enable the "auto lowcall" flag, or do you select the contact name, then "more information", etc.? The reason why I ask is that I don't have the "auto lowcall" flag set, and sometimes when I get to the WM contact screen and tap on "menu" to get to the lowcaller menu items, the phone hangs and I have to pull the battery to reset it. Does it happen with UniQ as well?
Thank you!

Is there a way to get wifi calling working in these custom roms. None of the non US sbfs or custom roms I've tried has this feature. Is there an apk or something to flash at this point in time?
I've been trying to figure this out using the us group and messing with the build.prop but I haven't had any success. I know for T-Mobile US users it would be great to get this figured out.
dunno if this helps or not, but take a look here and here.

What do you mean by calling? Skype works, Google Talk with audio works too. And I use a sip client called CSipsimple to call landlines and to make free direct ip calls. Don't see how this is different with stock roms because all these functions are from 3rd party software. I haven't tried Gingerbread's native sip client.

Not SIP calling. T-Mobile US has a feature called UMA or Wifi Calling. It basically is a SIP client that routes calls/SMS over the wifi radio instead of the Cellular Radio. It's not exactly Google Voice/Talk or the builtin 2.3 SIP client.
http://gigaom.com/2010/10/06/uma-t-mobile-android/
The Defy has it in stock form, but many roms don't include this, as they're made for non-US phones. JBoogie's has it I believe.
