Issues after ICS firmware Help ! - HTC Sensation

Ok so I had ARHD 3.1.x running great before. But I upgraded to the new firmware and ever since ive had issues with all roms. With sense roms i have horrible battery life, random reboots and my battery readings are very very messed up. I know the sensation has always had weird battery readings but this is just crazy at 60 % my phone starts to reboot and is suddenly at 10% so i reboot again and it goes to 30% then 50% then back to like 20%. With sense i used to get around 12 hours and 3-4 hours of usage, now i get like 6-8 hours with 1 hour of usage. I have already tried flashing other radios and RILs and the problems are still there. I tried to flash cm7 and most of the issues were gone but i had lockups that i had never had with cm7.
Has anyone else had these issues too? Were you able to fix them? Or does anyone have the latest TMOUS Ruu that still has S-off and has been tested? I want to go back to my old firmware to see if it will fix it. Im sorry for the long post but i really want to get my phone running like before.

I have not had a problem did you use the wipe zip before flashing the ROMs ??? i would suggest it ????

Yup I've super wiped after flashing each ROM. I've tried everything

I dont know man i asume you Super CID too, maybe reflash the firmware again did you use the right firmware??? Anyone else suggestions??

Yea I am. I flashed both ICS firmware the first one and the second one twice. I think now I should just flash my stock firmware but i dont know if its possible to brick it since im downgrading.. Anyone else have any suggestions???

Phone continues to randomly reboot even with new radios

I have tried 4 different radios and this phone still randomly reboots with frequency. I am the the 802 radio and it seems even worse then earlier radios. I am currently on gingerritis rom which i installed yesterday and have probably had 12 reboots since then.
Is it a combination of the rom and radio, or does just the radio make the phone reboot? I am really just tempted to flash it back to stock, sell it with the warning of this phone enjoys random reboots and get another phone.
while i typed this up it just rebooted twice on its own
I dont think the radio is what is going to fix the reboot issue. I know for some of the roms the fix was flashing the ziggy kernel.
Maybe give that a shot.

If hes using gingeritis, hes already using ziggy's kernel. Sounds weird i know, but try a new battery
Sent from my TBolt using my f***king thumbs...
i think overclocking to high and all the kernel cpu mods are whats causing this, not the radios.

I agree. Ziggy's stock voltage settings are very conservative north of about 1.5GHz. If you're tweaking it, definitely pay attention to the voltage.
nope not touching voltage or overclocking, i just put rom on thats about as far as i go tweaking phone.
Installed M0N0LITHTH3ORY rom and so far no reboots today, the gingeritis one must hate my phone cause in the less than 24 hours it was on the phone damn thing rebooted easy 10 times. But now this one is giving me some unexpected errors with weather app. I will give this one a week and see how it does and if no good on to next rom i guess.

Have you ever formatted /system?
yeah every time i put new rom i go into clockwork recovery
i wipe / factory reset
then format /system /cache /data
and wipe davlik cache
then install rom
double post...
i know my phone didnt like a few different roms. try a diffeerent one. also try doing each step 3 times. i did that after my phone rebooted on an a0sp rom by droidtheroy, after that it worked just fine on the rom that was rebooting
You know what? I was having the same problem and tired as hell of my TB. I was so tired of the little problems and the large rebooting problem that I had learned to really hate this phone.
A few days ago I decided to just use the new leaked, stock, unrooted, GB 210 RUU and give that one more try before I either took a hammer to this phone or unrooted and tried to get VZW to replace it.
I've had the latest leaked RUU on this phone for a few days now and I'm loving it again. Yeah, stock, unrooted, but also super fast GPS locking, fast 3g/LTE switching, no more reboots, not one. Battery is actually not bad at all after turning off a few of the stock bloat like Blockbuster. The gui is fast and smooth, I can't say whether or not it is as fast as it was when I was running custom ROMs but as far as I'm concerned its a big who cares. I now have a nicely working phone again. This is just my experience and my opinion, YMMV!

I got reboots with gingeritis and liquid ROMs, I've had no reboots in a week now running Virus' Synergy ROM. Try a different ROM, it should fix your problems.
Here's a link to Virus' work:

Second the ROM recommendation. Try a different one. I had the same issue with wanting to grenade this thing until I found a combo of ROM and radio that was stable for my use and applications.
Now I wouldn't think of tossing this phone.

Stability and battery life good for me with stock 1.70.605.0. Currently at 868 hours uptime.
yeah i am on monolith rom and so far no reboots, i am going to give this one a shot for now, hopefully this cures it.

[Q] gingerbread update broke my battery stats?

Hi, im new here and couldnt find any similar threads so posted this one.
I just updated my p920 with stock optus v20b firmware.
When i go into the battery usage page, the time on battery keeps restarting every couple of minutes.
eg. it would keep counting from "1s on battery" to "1m 7s on battery" then go back to "1s on battery".
This will also reset all the percentages used by apps. some times it even shows display using 230% when the time resets to 1s.
Has anyone had this problem??
any help would be appreciated. thanks
Yeah, that's a known problem on the stock GB ROMs. I have that too.
oh, so its a known problem. has there been any fixes for it yet?
Nope. Pretty much all GB roms (Except CM7 Ones i think) have some sort of broken battery stats
Yeah, CM7 works fine because it's not based on the original LG ROM. All other ROMs "inherit" that problem from the stock ROM.

[Q] ROM ICS 4.0.4 Battery Issue

Hi there,
So I just flashed this ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474878
It was last night, I hopped that battery issue drain by Cell stanby~Android System would be fix, but it didn't worked for me..
I flashed the ROM correctly, everything was OK. Wiped data/cache/dalvik and even formatted /system.
I don't understand why, my battery is really strange, sometimes I lose only 2 or 3% during many hours, other times I lose 20% per hour (with inactiv use).
I never had battery issue before ICS.
I got a Nexus S i9023, I hope some of you gonna be able to help me, I really want to fix that battery !
Best regards,
SpawN-
flash a rom that doesn't suck your battery! Or try some kernels that helps you to save battery
Yea sure, but this ROM was just here for the problem with battery, so it had to fix the problem, but didn't work for me, that's why I don't understand =/

sounds like it could be gremlins, or an app app wreaking havoc. also, apps that need to check for notifications drain battery quickly. i usually turn off all notifications(except gtalk/gmail).
I don't have any apps making annoying notifications, my Wifi and 3G are OFF and I often use Task Killer to kill useless processus.
I read that the porting of 4.0.4 for ns gsm was really smooth and battery save
This ROM wasn't even intended for your phone. All bets are off for stability...forget about battery life.
Seriously, though the behaviour you're seeing may not be the ROM. It could be programs keeping the phone awake during standby. To confirm, there's an app called Better Battery Stats on market (and in the Android Development and Hacking section on these forums) that may be able to help you figure things out.

Hello,
Have you tried to change your RADIO ?
try this kernel *Matr1x* with BLN and voodoo v16.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361477
I think it would be help.
For what i've seen the 4.0.4 version was just a leak so there could be some issue/bug. Maybe is better to stay with a custom Rom+kernel and wait for the update or for a custom kernel based on oficial realease 4.0.4 version.
cheers.
The only battery fix in 4.04 was the android os stats being logged incorrectly, i.e. too high.
That has been fixed in 4.04.
I don't think there ever was a cell standby/android system logging bug.
You may be mistaken.

[Q] [SOLVED] Random shutdowns / turning off.

Hey guys,
The topic of this thread has change slightly since I started it. Please disregard the first few posts after this one.
The problem is that when I install a new ROM, it works perfectly for an hour or perhaps even the day, and then I start getting random shutdowns. These seem to start out of the blue and I cant work it out.
When installing a new ROM, I always check the MD5 and perform a superwipe before starting to use the ROM. Ill put back a few apps using titanium backup pro.
I don't use any hacked apps or task killers.
I have searched but cant find anything useful.
Currently using Insertcoin Sense 4 RC5. Firmware 3.32.
I have tried three different kernals (Bricked, Sebastian and RCMix), all with the same problem.
Update: tjamaican has kindly sent me a fix he found of the forums, its for a battery fix that worked for me on insertcoin's ICS Sense 4 RC4.1 ROM. However I have just moved to RC5 and the problem is back even with the fix.
http://www.mediafire.com/?2a8837bcatym1ju
I am going to try and set a lower CPU level, already down to 1.2 Ghz with max screen off at ~500Mhz. Seems stable for now, been running 24hrs - no restarts.
This is interesting because I had a GB Rom running at 1.5Ghz with no problems, maybe its something to do with ICS.
Any ideas?
[SOLVED]
Sent the phone off to htc and they have replaced the motherboard. Its all fine and dandy now!
They dont know why it happened or how to avoid it in the future...useful, but if you're still in warranty then send it off, it took exactly a week to get back to me (Monday to Monday). Good luck!

Well no need for factory reset. Superwipe? Yes.
What roms cause this?
What firmware is ur senny on? Ex: 1.17? 3.24?
Phone have physical damage?
Has it been wet?

Thanks for your reply.
No, the phone is basically new, but as I said this has happened before.
Running this ROM on 3.24:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468683
But this does happen on other ROMS too, they work perfectly for a while and then slowly begin to develop problems. At this stage I usually install the latest version of the ROM but I'm actually happy with the ROM at the moment and dont want to have to keep changing it!
I've been running Darkforest ROM since early stages and have had no problems so far. Maybe try that one. It's on v 5.1.5 now and it's very fast and very stable, moreso than many other ROMs i've tried.
Could be a defective device possibly? Are u using the kernel that comes with the rom?
Sent From Space Using My ICS Flavored Sensation
I would download 1-click cleaner and clean the cache every week. Also you might want to boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache every two weeks.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I dont think there is anything wrong with the device, I'll try wiping the cache's and see if that makes a difference. Thank you very much for all your answers so far.

Could possibly be an app try removing all your apps and install 1 by 1 give it a couple of weeks see if it happens again, I got a problem from juice defender pro (payed for) worked alright for few days then my launcher started force closing all the time took me ages to figure it out but got there by removing all my apps and installing them 1 by 1 long and time staking but worth a try
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Okay well ive tried clearing the cache and davlik cache with no luck, less restarts but they are still there. I am resistant to start removing apps as I use them on a daily basis. Before I try this, does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks,
Max
I have the same problem :/ it happens in both GB and ICS but It never happened to me till about 2 or 3 months ago

What other information would you like?
I think it may be a kernel issue, I'm going to try a few...
Tried three different kernals now, all with the same problem which would indicate its not a kernal problem? Something else perhaps? (Tried bricked, sebastian and RCMix)
its not a problem, its with network connection
I've had this problem since ages and couldn't fix it yet. First thing, download LTE switch and change the value from wcdma preferred to gsm auto. see if it avoids the restarts. Another thing you can try is, change the sim card (I havent tried it yet). Or, if possible, change the back cover. But I'm pretty pretty sure its the problem with the network.
Please reply.

Well I have been at the 1.2GHz level for almost 24 hours now without too much trouble. Im not sure if it was lowering the CPU clock for screen on, or raising the CPU clock for screen off. Either way I can notice the device is slightly slower. I dont see why ICS doesnt like overclocking on this phone, GB was fine with it?!

Update:
Just had a random shutdown, could have been anywhere in the last 20 mins. I really don't know what else to try!
Having EXACT ones you are having. Buy another battery if that doesn't work its a hardware problem. I still need to buy my battery but will post and let you know if it worked.

I'm also starting to think its caused by not letting the battery fully die and recharging it a lot but that's just my guess?
I switched back to gingerbread yesterday and so far I've had no problems which would indicate its not a hardware issue...? Usually by now I've had a few shut downs..
So I went as far as unrooting and switching batteries with my bro and the problem continues idk what to do

[Q] Flashing, roms, radio, etc?

I Rooted my Phone some time ago, i have installed some roms, some run good, some freezes my phone up, have remove my battery.
so what I need more info on, is should i do like I read about the Radio?, Kernel?, and then ROM?
What I show,
Kernel Version
2.6.35.14-RCMIX3D-V12-CRD-gec898d5-dirty
Baseband Ver: ( Radio)
12.29.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M
ROM
RunnyDroid v3.0
I have StraightTALK Sims, all DATA, SMS all working,
My Battery dose not last so long, 3 to 4 hrs, mostly not in use.
I seen a lot of post talking about this rom, and that rom works the best. or the battery last for 7+ hours.
My phone is not running a lot of apps, I even uninstalled my Anti-Virus.
I have to keep my phone on the Charger a lot. I even bought a New battery and same thing.
Thanks
Have you tried recalibrating the battery? Also, how much "screen -on" time during your 3-4 hours use?

Sorry, just noticed you said mostly not in use.
There's a apps you can download from the market- Battery Recalibration and Current Widget...with these 2 tools and a little knowledge of what running app/services are doing, you can track what's going on.
Or, you could just simply have a bad battery or a gooned-up flash (it happens).
Hope this helps.

On the contrary, battery calibration has been proved to be nothing more then just a peace of mind type of procedure and really not a huge benefit. My advice would be to get Current Widget and fully charge your phone. Unplug it and let it sleep for about 6-8 hours with current widget logging the mA drain (the log is an option in the app itself, you just need to enable it). After the 6-8 hours ( I normally do this when I sleep so I know the phone is not in use) check the log and see if there is any weird mA drain. weird would look something like
1ma
3ma
180ma
230ma
1ma
2ma
Normal would be:
1ma
1ma
4ma
5ma
1ma
You get the picture hopefully haha. If you have weird drain then best bet would be to full wipe and reinstall the rom and individually install your apps one at a time and monitoring the mA usage to see what apps cause the drain and what doesn't. You can also try new radios with their matching RILs and see if that helps. There are also apps like Juice Defender and Green Power that have been said to improve battery life up to 2x. Hope that helps.
I have tested apps, done the ( Let the battery die, and then charge wait off to give a more of it charge.

let your phone die and then recharging it fully does nothing for abnormal battery drain. So in that regard the only thing you proved to yourself was that your phone can charge properly. Are you 100% sure you are running the proper radio for the ROM or have the matching RIL for your radio? I still think its an app running in the background that is causing your problem. Are you sure that you full wiped and reinstalled the rom. Then with each app you want, install one. wait for 30 minutes and allow current widget to log the mA activity. Check the log to be sure there are no crazy spikes in mA and proceed to the next app repeating the same process. I know its annoying but that's the only way to be sure that your apps aren't causing the drain.
Also consider turning off sync, which I've heard can be a battery drainer. Turn off wifi as well when need in range since the scanning for wifi causes battery drain as well.
I really don't know, when I first got the phone, I Rooted it and unlocked it.
I Do have straight talk Sim I have been using.
all I did was change the ROM( I Think).
with all the little problems I'm having, I was think I have a lot wrong with it!
So I was going to download a need ROM, I seen talk about Radios, or RIL, and ROMS.
so No I don't know If I have everthing right.
I wasl looking atRCMixHD 4G V3.4 ROM, and if I used it, what Radio and RIL would I need.
having Stright Talk Service, witch runs on ATT, with difference APN settings.
what Would I need?
Thanks. Terrell
Usually, the ROM has all the correct radios, RILs, kernels etc inside the ROM itself and you would only need to change if you had some need for a different radio, like if you got poor service where you live. Kernels are dictated by the ROM.

On a different note.
All I can say is wow. 2,000,000 Roms and I still not know LOL. Thanks for all the info so far.
When you install a custom ROM it will include ROM, a certain RIL, and the kernel that the DEV has used with the ROM all in one package. The DEV will USUALLY let you know what the recommended radio should be to match the included RIL. You could flash it before or after you flash the ROM.
If you are having battery issues I would first start with a new battery. If you have already done that then flash a simple ROM for testing purposes. Stay away from highly tweaked and modified ROMs with a kernel set up for overclocking. I recommend juicy ROM from my sig. Install the 2.52 (R2) version which is still sense 2.5 and gingerbread 2.3.3. The ROM is flawless and you will get the best battery life than from anyother ROM. SEE how your battery lasts with it.
If you have your brightness set high, have many apps running in the background, are in an area where your signal is poor and is constantly lost, are syncing many accounts constantly, and you can't seem to put your phone down, then your battery will not last that long.

bootlooping isn't the end of the world. It only becomes an issue if you can't boot into HBOOT. You can boot into HBOOT by turning off the device and then holding the volume up and power button at the same time. You will then boot into HBOOT. From here your device will scan for a "PD98IMG.zip". I'm guessing since you don't know how to get into HBOOT then you've probably haven't flashed a radio so you shouldn't have a stray PD98IMG.zip on your sdcard. After it scans and doesn't find a a PD98IMG.zip you will be given a few options. One of which will be to boot into recovery. Do that. From there you can check the md5 (if you're using EXT4 recovery). If you want you can re-download another ROM and from recovery you can mount your SDcard so you can put the new ROM on your sdcard and flash per usual.
