[Q] Does the Samsung Taylor have an AMOLED screen? Specs? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been reading on the internet that the Samsung Taylor was going to have an AMOLED screen but no one every gave specifics on RAM or the type of LCD. Anyone have some detailed specs? 256MB RAM or 512MB? I looked around the net and couldn't find a reliable answer.
Thanks guys.

No, it doesn't (regular LCD). And memory is 256 Mb because it's not retail device. Also no EMMC/internal flash, micro SD only (cards class 6 works perfect but still significant slower than regular EMMC on Focus for example).

I just bought one right before I saw your post. Thanks sensboston. We should collaborate on a wikipedia page for the device. I couldn't find anything short of rumors about the "new Samsung windows phone" and just a bunch of junk media from before WP7 came out. I take it you own one? Also didn't the venue pro have 256 MB RAM?

Sams Taylor is very old phone (one of the first WP7 models), built just for developers only. Also, MS/Samsung drop support for these handsets (so mine is get stock on 7003 - no chance to upgrade to Mango). I don't think it needs a wiki page.
I have no idea about Venue Pro memory size.

So there is no way to update our Taylors to 7004? Even if I was able to find a Taylor with update 7004 on it and dump the ROM, etc?

Android Tablet (x2) needing custom roms

Hey gang,
I have a unique request for a couple roms.
I ordered 2 android tablets and am currently waiting for them to arrive. Probably 2 weeks or so.
Google Android 7" Netbook Tablet PC UMPC MID 1.2GHZ
Google Android 7" notebook Netbook Tablet PC UMPC MID
I bought them to simply play with and will probably give them to family members once I am done tinkering around. They were pretty cheap so big loss if they totally suck. Once I receive them I will do a proper review on the full features of these two devices since most online reviews are sorta vague and lacking in the full specs department. Once received I will try to get to a bootloader screen and see if rooting and pushing new versions of Android is even possible. Both devices "say" they will have upgraded roms in the future, but we all know how that is . I just wanted to post here and see if any Devs wanted to try to root these things in hopes of making them more functional.
Below are the full specs that was listed for each device. Again, The specs listed are never consistent from site to site so there is no telling what each tablet will include internally.

Again, these two tablets are uber cheap. I expect them to be nothing more than what is listed above (at best). I am not expecting them to run like a unit with a Snapdragon processor ... more like a G1
All in fun ya know! Only way to learn.
If anyone is interested in having a 'remote' go at these via chat or something just shoot me an email or PM.
I will update this post when I actually receive the devices.
Later!

I wonder what the specific specs are on that 1.2ghz cpu, and if it can support flash 10.1 when it comes out or not.
On the model with the 1.2GHz CPU, the seller is actually a combining the MHz from both the "CPU600MHz+DSP600MHZ" to come up with the 1.2GHz.
It is really just a 600MHz processor :\
I will run some benchmark tests on both units though

Maybe you can provide a little review? ... Like benchmarking and stuff. Also, if you have the time, see if you can figure out different boot modes.
Different button combinations and stuff. I plan to do all this when I get mine. Just wanting to get a jump on things =)

I am watching this closely because I am interested in the aPad version

I'm interested in picking on up too. It would pair good with my Hero, especially if I can't get my hands on a EVO 4G.
And the fact that it has slightly better specs than the Hero I don't see why it couldn't run 2.1 or even 2.2.

I agree. I actually want the aPad version, but I decided to roll the dice and see what hardware the cheaper version has.
If it doesn't have the webcam, I will just sell it at my cost and get the aPad version
If I have to wait for the aPad, I'll still have the cheaper white one to play with to pass the time.
INTERESTING STUFF!
I just noticed the ePad version has 1.5 and the white one has 1.6

Correct.
The aPad (black one) has Android 1.5, but they state they will offer upgrades to the OS later because this tablet is only a few weeks old on the market.
The "Eken M001" (white one) comes stock with Android 1.6
Evidentially, there is already a ROM replacement at SlateDroid.com for the white model!
I REALLY can't wait to get both of them and do some massive testing!
FUN STUFF!
EKEN M001 off of ebay. Got 2
I just got 2 EKEN M001 for 30$ each off of ebay .. They have the same speks as the one listed here. There are many Chinese clones of the Ipad and they are at a realy good price. Now if only we can get a build of 2.2 with JIT working on them .. they will be realy great

on the slatedroid forum concerning the M001 (white version), users can not play videos, the internet is very slow and the WIFI is very weak and randomly drops the signal. Someone stated that the OS is not as refined as it appears from the videos (some sorry build of Android). I hope the reviews are better for the apad version.
Looks to me like they are a little light on memory with only 128 mb.

Is it not possible to some how allocate some space from an SD or microsd card as ram, kind of how you can do it on a PC?

Android Tablet Discussion

I was thinking that a Generic Android Tablet Discussion thread would be a good idea. No matter the brand , maker size etc. Talk about them here.
Im debating between the Archos 101 and waiting to see if the Moto tab is good.
Whats Out There
I have been keeping a keen eye out for the variety of higher end tablets and here is what I have sort of come up with so far:
Samsung Tablet (7")
Motorola Stingray (10")
Viewsonic viewpad (7")
LG Optimus pad
SteamTV Elocity pad (7")
Archos Family of pads (3"-10")
They all have there merits, and the minor things that make them not so great. But here is a list of the gamot of features you can look for. Some of the tablets have alot of them, some have none, its basically what you want to do with it:
3G
WIFI
GPS
Bluetooth 2.1 or 3.0
Capacitive Screen
USB port(s)
(Micro) SD card slot
HDMI
G-Sensor
Accelerator meter
Geomagnetic sensor
Light Sensor
Front Camera
Back Camera
Google Apps Integration
NVIDA Tegra 2 versus 1GHx CPU w/ GPU
1024 x 600 resolution versus 800 x 480
RAM
Disk Space
Version of Android (2.2 now 3.0 later)
-MW
I know they are poppping out of the woodwork now. My biggest thing is that the majority are really expensive. Like the new Toshiba announced today is $540. THat is why Either the Cruz or Archos will match all my criteria. But the nice thing is that there seems to be a ton of different options.
Toshiba Folio 100
10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen
1024 x 600
Android 2.2 (Froyo)
NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor
16 GB internal storage (32 GB available SD expansion)
Adobe Flash 10.1
1.3 MP front-facing camera
Mini-HDMI
USB 2.0
Bluetooth 2.1
WLAN (802.11)
Mobile broadband (available Q1 2011)
I've been disappointed with the IFA ones as almost all of them have 3G which means here, onerous data contracts or ridiculous prices w/o.
Archos underwent feature regression(e.g. no GPS), and has some whacked prices for the 70 & 101. The rest seem kind of useless to me too small and at least the smallest two don't have any way of expanding storage which makes them kind of useless as anything other than a portable music player.
The Viewsonic is the Olivepad one? Didn't seem to be all that great.
Toshiba Folio MIGHT have been nice, but that Tegra will likely make it expensive.
...just too many hawking 3G and not enough that have useful extras like higher res cameras, GPS, mics, and maybe bluetooth... i.e. I'm just meh'ed by IFA offerings... Witstech A81-E is still looking good and they just got another new fw release 8/31...
Good catch, forgot the toshiba one. Here is what I am looking for a tablet:
3G (mainly so I can have google apps)
7" Display
Capacitive screen (OMLED prefered)
1024 x 600
Android 2.2 upgradeable to android 3.0
front camera
1 GHz CPU (perferably the tegra 2)
GPU (if no NVIDIA CPU)
front camera (dont care about a back one)
A-GPS
Bluetooth (at least 2.1)
WIFI B/G/N
USB
8+ GB internal storage
SD card slot is nice but not manditory
HDMI is nice but not manditory
Which matches up with the samsung tab, but the British price I found had it at over 600 British pounds, which converts to over 1000 US dollars.

Damn that is expensive.
Im mainly looking for a ereader, web surfer, watch some videos on trips, and check my gapps when on wifi.
Check out the stream tv elocity pad. No 3g, but no gps ether. the reason why everyone puts on 3g is because it's the only way to get google apps on it, until google changes their requirements for google apps.

I think a 2Ghz CPU, as of right now, is over powered for android. I have a Gentouch78 tablet that runs at 600MHz and it seems to run OK. My 1GHz nexus one has had no issues, and I have it multi tasking several apps at once sometimes. It will get really hot, especially when I toss the car charger on it while its doing all that, but never seen it slow down to unresponsiveness. As for the HDD space. I dont use mine much for multi media, so 50gb would be overdoing it for me. Just the ability to have an SD card slot would be enough for me, that right there is 32 gb.
Now dealing with the android OS itself, this is where things are starting to get wierd. You have 2.2, which is really a phone OS, you have 3.0 which is really a tablet OS, and so the current samsung tablet is supposed to be 2.2 and will get 3.0, but now this 3.5 is where it gets confusing. Some of the stuff I have been reading is stating that 3.5 is going to be an entirely different OS completly, or at least have an entirely different usage beyond that of a tablet or cell phone. And that you will have to buy an entirely new piece of hardware to use it because samsung already said their current tablet wont get 3.5 when it comes out, but i twill get 3.0. This is making me think that 3.5 may be the google chrome OS, which from what I am hearing I am not a total fan of. So basically, the idea as I understand it, is that the hardware will just be the input/output device and all the applications will be stored on teh cloud as well as the work being done will be done on the cloud. This is all nice and dandy until either 1) everyone gets on all at once and bogs down the system or 2) the cloud or network goes down and the device is worthless. Thats why I like android right now. If you have no data connection you can still do work. Now some things on android that do run off the cloud, like the GPS, if you need to reroute and you loose the data connection, since all the work is done on the back end you cant get anywhere until the data connection comes back.
Since Android is a full fledge Linux OS I think it can do whatever you need it to do, you just need to port the apps over. So i think it can replace a laptop, but there will always be certain things that make a laptop easier to use that are unrelated to the android OS, like a real keyboard. With phones, for instance, I still feel more comfortable texting on a physical keyboard on my blackberry then I do on the virtual keyboard on my nexus one. Now can I develope a web page, photoshop some images and toss them on the web page, with android? If they ported the apps over then sure why not, the physical keyboard will just make it easier. But as soon as you start talking windows 7 you are changing the entire hardware requirements (ARM CPU versus an x86 CPU) which will allow you to run your favorite web development software and photo editing software, and now your 50gb of disk space will be all chewed up with the OS and applications but no room for media, and with the new hardware requirements the price goes up (not like the samsung tab isnt expensive either) but then the bottom line is its still awkward to use because of the lack of a physical keyboard.
Now I am just using web development/photo editing as an example, simplier tasks, like email and web surfing, will require less and are easily done on the android OS. But the bottom line is to use the right tool for the right job, outline your requirements and find a solution that best fits your needs. I believe that android will be a decent laptop replacement if all your doing with your laptop is surfing the web and sending email but if your trying to do less casual stuff, like photo editing and web development, then android right now is obviously not enough, but in the future it might be. It goes back to the age old question, does hardware push the software industry, or does software push the hardware industry?

Hmmm.... looks like they took a screenshot of an android VM running on ubuntu and photoshopped it into their device. If they don't have any pictures of the tablet in action, I'd be really dubious...
Finally I ordered this one, so will post some review when it arrives.
So I tested tablet I ordered few weeks ago and realized that this is the same device as Advent Vega. I test quadrant benchmark and got 2200 points without any customization of rom.
Screen is nice and response is fast. I can recommend this one.

Opinion on local tablet

I need your opinion on tablet hardware. it seems like a good deal so i just want to run by you pro's for a quickie
It's name is Vivax TPC-7150, and it's a dual core 1,5ghz, 1gb DDR3, 7" tablet.
it has a rockchip RK3066 A9 cpu and Mali-400MP gpu, 8gb storage, wi-fi, 1024x600 at 169ppi (at 5:3 ratio) (dont know exactly is it ips or regular tft matrix. one site says ips, another site says tft)
2 MP front camera, microusb, microSD and 3500mAh battery.
on local pc magazine test ("VIDI"), it scored like this:
Quadrant standard
Total 4036
CPU 7278
MEM 4237
I/O 6011
2D/3D 317/2337
Vellamo HTML5/Metal 1655/523
PassMark
System/CPU 1811/5626
Disk/Memory 1152/1427
2D/3D graphics 2989/767
It sells from 110€ and it's a product of a chinese factory and engineered by a croatian company
any opinion will be useful, but ofcourse i'll have to check it myself somewhere in the store first...
edit: sry, here's a link
There probably won‘t be any gurantee or warranty with it. If you can live with that then... it might be a risk worth taking.
I have seen chinese tablets before which have specs that are different than the one promised on the box.
It's decent. You might be able to do better for the same money, but I can't say with what off the top of my head. The 5:3 is kind of weird. You might be able to get away with the 8Gb since it has an external SD slot - but consider you'll have to spend another $20 on that - and you can't put all apps and such on it.
If it is legitimate and that will be actually what you are getting, of course.
why do you think i cant put apps on microsd card?
and sorry for my misexplaining. It's a local croatian company (Vivax) that has "developed" the tablet and has it produced in china (like many other companies do), so i think there shouldnt be any problems with warranty....
what about rooting and flashing different ROM? how can i tell which ROM i can use and what tool to root it with?
I only have my x8 so i'm not so familiar with other devices...
can you please help me only with an answer for rooting and flashing rom?
can i flash any rom that is programmed for similar characteristics tablet? and is there a unique tool for rooting or is it device specific?

No. It needs to be made for you exact device or you will brick it and turn it into an expensive paperweight that will not turn on again.
Not all apps can be moved to the SD card. There might be ways around it, but it can be hit or miss and I wouldn't count on it.

Teclast X98 Pro Review + Root + ROMs + Info

You can also read the text review here:
http://www.mobiletechasia.com/?p=1677
The Teclast X98 Pro has been launched at 1399Yuan ($225USD) with the following specs, see below:
Processor: 2.24 GHz quad-core Intel Atom X5-Z8500
Memory/Storage: 4 GB LPDDR3 RAM; 64 GB internal storage and microSD slot
Display: 9.7-inch multitouch with 2,048X1,536 pixels and 264 ppi
Cameras: 2 MP front, 5 MP back
Connectivity: WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, mini HDMI, micro USB 2.0
Operating system: Windows 10 Home Edition
Battery: 8000 mAh
Weight: 1.19 pounds
It could definitely be a Surface 3 killer assuming the user experience doesn't suck.
This thread will be updated as more info, reviews, unboxings and questions come in.
I've been looking forward to this device. My only problem with it is I haven't seen any decent keyboard docks that aren't just flimsy foldable cases for any of the X98 line.
Its on sale on Tinydeal too.
http://www.tinydeal.com/es/teclast-...-4gb-64gb-tablet-pc-w-bluetooth-p-155607.html
I will have to buy it from here since aliexpress does not ship to my country.
Heard that they will release a dual boot android/10 down there road.
Any truth to this? if so i will hold tight for that.
*EDIT*
had it open in a tab i hadn't got to yet.

Wonder how long we are talking... a few weeks? a few months?
*EDIT2*
People seem to think that the dual boot is just a software flash/upgrade away. And that you wouldn't have to actually buy a different model.
This would make me pull the trigger on it.
What do you guys think?

I've been looking forward to this device. My only problem with it is I haven't seen any decent keyboard docks that aren't just flimsy foldable cases for any of the X98 line.

It's dimensions are just about identical to the iPad Air, I'm reasonably sure something like this should work just fine - http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/ultrathin-air?crid=1608

I've been looking at this tablet for the past hour and it seems really nice. Also, the best price I could find was here: http://dealsnow.info/2015/08/14/teclast-x98-pro-best-windows-10-tablet-currently-available/
It also offers a 5$ discount off the regular price.

People seem to think that the dual boot is just a software flash/upgrade away. And that you wouldn't have to actually buy a different model.
This would make me pull the trigger on it.
What do you guys think?
Any thoughts on JustusIV question on this?? I am in the same position, ready to hit the "preorder" button if anybody could indicate if this would be "dual-bootable" after a software upgrade and not beeing a hardware issue?

According to the official Teclast website this is a Windows only tablet. I could not find any mention of dual-boot. Also, at the link I posted earlier it seems to be in Stock, not just pre-order.
cant wait for it to deliver!
hey all i just bought this tablet. I really don't care if it has dual boot on it or not. I have been testing out an emulator called DROID4X and it is absolutely amazing. Its extremely fast once you get it downloaded of course (slow download). I ran a bunch of benchmarks and scored higher than any other system. so the emulator works really good. very stable, and all the games Ive played on it so far work perfectly.
I scored 83,000 on ice storm unlimited.
114,000 on antutu.
8.926 seconds on 10,000,000 pi.
of course I'm running this all on an oc 4790k build but even if the z8500 can do 30% of that ill be fine. If they get dual boot working on it even better. Until then the emulator works perfect. i would score higher but my system isn't optimized to run android. I actually ran android off of boot able USB and it was horribly slow. i might snag another ssd to install it because i don't want to fragment my windows ssd. that's one concern i have about the dual boot. can anyone chime in on how well the system will separate the files for dual boot? what if you need to reinstall windows or reset android?
That's amazing. have you tried PS2 emulators (or gamecube)?
Greetings my friends! Any way to clone dump the eMMC to an external backup drive, USB Flash Drive (Pen drive) or microSD Card?
I need to backup everything including Windows and Android boot partitions, data partitions, recovery partitions before doing anything on the tablet.
Thanks!

Need Help upgrading to 64gb and 4gb RAM

My Nexus 5 has always full Storage and it p****s me off. I searched for Storage Upgrade posibilities and found a thread from a dude upgrading his storage to 64gb. So i decided to try that too with an spare nexus 5. I also found a post about nexus 5x users upgrading their ram to 4gb. So I researched and found out that the Nexus 5 uses the "H9CKNNNBPTMRLR-NTM" RAM-Chip.
It says that it has 216-ball fbga socket and i searched for similar chips with 216-ball socket with more capacity. Since the snapdragon 800 is a 32-bit chip it'll "only" support 4gb ram (I suggest). I found the "H9CKNNNBPTATDR" and need to know if it has the same pinout as the "H9CKNNNBPTMRLR-NTM".
I cant find enough information about the chips and contacting the Manufacturer doesn't work for me (cant register somehow). Maybe one of you is a dev in a company, which can get into contact with the chip manufacturer. Or you are just better st finding datasheets than me
Hope you can help me
