I flashed NexusBeam ROM yesterday and the radio it came with did not work on my device i9020a on the Rogers Network. If im correct my baseband should read i9020auckd1. I manged to get the phone working again with the KB3 Radio... but no luck flashing the UCKD1 Radio (bad file maybe?). So now in settings Baseband Version reads "NO DGSXXKB3"... is this even a problem?
Any insight would be helpful. Thanks guys.
devs shouldn't include radio in their roms for this very reason regardless
Leave it up to end user to update
Try flashing the radio image threw fastboot and not CWR
You can extract the radio baseband image from the zip file
U get a signal?
Both the KB1 and KB3 radios display as that on 9020a. I have ran kb3 for a long time without any problems.

Thanks for the info, puts me at ease.
I'm on Rogers network and the KB3 radio works perfectly fine for me. I would keep it if I were you. I had no notable difference with KB1.

I'm thinking of updating my li'l heroc's radio (currently 2.42.01.04.27) by downloading the appropriate zip and flashing from ClockworkMod recovery. Here's my Q: afterwards, will I need to flash my CM6.1 and gapps all over again?

No you wont have to update the rom, gapps, kernel or any other mods you may have. Updating your radio will change your baseband. I was on the same radio you were until I changed my radio to the Verizon desire radio because it gives me better service for sure. I didnt do mine thru clockwork so i dont know how that works I just got the update zip and flashed it in recovery. Be careful using diff methods or zips to flash radios one bad one and u got a brick. Good luck

Unless you are using firerats custom partitions. Then it isn't so easy as flash and go, but still not hard to do.

Takes about 30 minutes if your using firerats mod, but even then you still dont lose anything.
I flashed baseband 2.42.01.04.27 and still not getting much improved reception in a fringe area (my home). Common to get around -98 to -100 db.
Any suggestions for other radios that might work better on the weak end?

Hey I had a question about that. By flashing the Verizon radio won't that be considered like Roaming because you're not using Sprint Towers??? Also how is the improvement in say signal strength and data?
Just wondering cause i'd like to improve my phone signal.

yea i wanna know about using verizon towers too... especially for 3g...wasnt there some hack besides flashing radio?

I loaded the latest radio and the numerical signal is about the same but the phone displays two bars once in awhile which never showed before from the same fringe location. Will need more time talking on the phone before deciding if there is any marked audible quality improvement.
The -xx dmb readout and the graphic bar display do not seem to be in synch anyway. It can show -95 dbm and then only one bar while other times I have seen it at -98dbm and showing two bars, so really not sure which is more reliable.
i am at a total loss here.
I was on CM7 with the stock AT&T radio and HSUPA was working just fine.
I then tried to flash another radio (The Telus one) and i lost HSUPA.
I checked the build.prop and it is still showing that HSUPA is enabled.
I tried flashing back to the AT&T stock radio and HSUPA is STILL disabled...
Anyone know how to re-enable this?
I am completely puzzled here.
edit: this is fixed. see solution HERE

Try flashing a different rom and see if that will work. I would try stock rooted.
Thanks but there has to be another way.
I font understand why flashing a radio (Telus, i even tried a euro radio), would disabled HSUPA from nowhere and the radio is completely ignoring the build.prop file which has HSUPA enabled.
By searching i saw another user had this problem but no solution was posted.
I had to ruu to stock and rerun the hack kit.

THIS!!!!
I had to do the same. I searched and tried everything. I am afraid the only way is to reflash to stock and start all over again. And don't flash any other radios. I have read so many radio threads looking for the solution and most everybody I see worldwide is getting the best results with the stock AT&T radio.

I guess that's what i'll have to do.
Is there a specific way i need to flash the radio in order no to lose HSUPA?
I simply used fastboot.
I do see other people on this forum who successfully flashed a different radio.
How did they do it?
There is no better radio for the inspire than the stock one. It has no hsupa limitations built in or nonspecific kernel issues, unlike the captivate. Don't flash any other radios, simple solution.

Is there a way to check which radio we have? What is the identifier of stock radio?
Not sure exactly what happens but something gets screwed up somewhere.
Originally I used the Hackerize kit and flashed the original radio. Instead of flashing a Sense rom, I went straight to CM7. Everything was perfect except I did not have HSUPA no matter what I tried. I tried multiple radios and editing build.prop. Nothing worked.
This second time, I used Hackerize again. This time I took the extra steps to flash one of attn1s cooked roms. I booted that and made sure I had HSUPA before moving forward. Then I installed CM7 again and now I have HSUPA. My uploads are faster than my downloads in my area.
OK here is the deal:
1) I RUU back to stock
2) Ran the hack kit again except for the last step i never flashed back to the at&t radio as this is what is causing the problem.
3) I then tested by flashing like 4 different radios (NONE FROM AT&T) and never lost HSUPA again.i flashed 3 euro radio and 1 from Telus both on euro stock firmware and CM7.
There is something with the at&t radio that once you flash it - something gets messed up when you flash another radio.

I've flashed the stock radio and the M2 radio back and forth and back. I've never had problems with HSUPA. I just did a speedtest to make sure because I'm back on stock radio and it is 1542down/1347up.
The stock radio sounds HORRIBLE... there isnt a better way to increase call quality???? Everything sounds so raspy.

Is the audio quality in the radio? I thought it was in the rom. I would have guessed reception quality would be in the radio. Related but not the same

When you guys get HSUPA back, how do you know? Are you checking Menu>Settings>About Phone>Network>Mobile network type?
I've tried everything but this to get HSUPA and I can never get HSUPA to show as the network type. I'm nervous about flashing a new radio because it sounds like I need Eng S-Off to flash a radio and it seems there is a greater risk of bricking my phone if I screw it up than just with the radio s-off.

Hi,
The best radio its the one that works.
Never mind all the suggestions that say you must have this or that radio with this or that ROM.
The one that actually works with your phone in your area is the best one for you.
It is a good thing that you have tried all different roms.
Now try the different radios, and stick with the one that works.
Nothing happens downgrading Radios?
The method of copying to Sdcard Root directory and checking md5 before flashing is safe?

Hi,
If you downgrade your radio, and you get better signals, then, there is no problem.
I prefer to use the adb method.
I hear of fewer problems with adb.
The sd card root method, however, is easier to install.
The choice is yours.
i know the build.prop file contains settings for the network, i also had the same problem and check the build.prop and it said i was using the 10.58 ril and i didn't realize but when you flash the ril file in recovery that the system has to be mounted.

Pardon... I didn't get what u meant... You shared same problem as mine so i would request you to repeat what you said in more simple way which is easy to understand..
I would be curious to hear which radio is best for keeping the data connection as fast and responsive as possible when we have less than a full rack of bars.
I have T-Mobile USA and had some issues with the 10.58 Radio. I downgraded back to the stock 10.56 Radio and it seems to be a lot better - I am running the 4.1.8 ARHD with Sense 3.5.
Download the Radio 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01 and install via ADB
- adb reboot bootloader
- fastboot flash radio radio.img
- fastboot reboot
Then download the RIL HTC-RIL 2.2.0169HMQ and flash via recovery.
Hopefully this works for you as well as it did for me!

What sort of issues did you have with the 10.58 radio?
@ jjdoctor, if your using a custom rom some roms are set up for EU..ect check the build.prop which is under system/build.prop (must be root) there are settings that are related to the network. take a build.prop from a stock rom and compare, also remember when you flash the ril in recovery you must mount the system first then flash the ril file. then flash your radio. there is no specific radio for a rom, dev's just say that cause they have a certain ril file install already for it. So just pick the radio that was from your stock ruu, which you can extract, get the ril file that is related to that radio, boot into recovery, mount the system, flash the ril, reboot into bootloader flash your radio and you should be set.

For me, I seemed to have a dropped signal, poor reception (on phone calls sounded like people were far away), signal would go in and out constantly - quickly would refresh but when you are a heavy user and signal goes in and out and interrupts what youre doing its very frustrating haha. Also, data speeds weren't as great. I am thinking of doing a speedtest result with 10.56 and 10.58 for everyone - but I really think it'd just apply to where I am (Colorado/New Mexico).
Hey guys, I just flashed the latest version or ARHD v3.6.9 and I have latest bricked kernel.
I'm still getting awful call quality when I'm taking to someone on the phone. Like static and strange background noise to a point where I can't hear the other person at all. Tried using the suggested radio then rolling back to 10.56 radio and still have problems. Could it possibly be because the person I was calling was on at&t? Any suggestions?

How are your phone calls with other people (besides the one on AT&T)?
About radios, I am curious, where did you see the info on the suggested radio for T-Mobile? How did you flash your radio? Does a NANDROID backup save the radio also?
Thanks

It is under install instructions on the ROM thread. They suggest a 1.58. You can flash your radio by outing the .zip file on the root of your sdcard. When you boot into hotboot it automatically installs the package for you. No, a nandroid does not back up a radio, but it does not need to be backed up as it is separate from the android system. You keep the same radio even if you flash different ROM's.

yes. respond to my text or pm, please.
if you have have 10.56 radio make sure you also use the RIL 169, that's what i use and I'm tmoUSA as well w/ no problems
you can check the RIL you have by dl Terminal Emulator thru the market and then typing
su
getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl"
so 10.56 matches with ril .169!!!

Thank you. What ROM are you using? Because I just looked at the ril thread and apparently the 10.56/.169 radio/ril is for android 2.3.4 but I'm on IC which is 2.3.5. Does that matter because many have suggested to roll back or flash different radios..
9035.01 was the radio that was on it at all times (i've never flashed a different one). 169 is the matching ril. was it messing up when you first got it?
I'm using elegancia 2.3.5 Rom and using 10.56/ril 169.... I don't think it matters on the rom but folks do recommend u keep the same radio/ril u had originally...
Hope this helps
I'm a total noob but thanks to XDA, and literally hours and hours of reading I was able to flash the original ics leak from DG, the latest 4.0.4 leak, install CWM touch, and successfully root my AT&T skyrocket. Thank you all! However, I am one of the few that have had better data and voice with the ucalc4 radio despite reports to the contrary. I decided to try flashing LeeC's CWM flashable ucalc4 radio after doing a backup. After flashing the zip and rebooting, i was unable to get a signal. The baseband was also listed as "unknown". I tried putting the phone in and out of airplane mode, reinserting the sim and rebooting but to no avail. Finally, I gave up and restored my backup and upon reboot, lo and behold.....under baseband it says ucalc4!!! 4-5 bars of service instead of 1. Signal Strength -85dBm 14asu (not sure what this means and didnt record settings prior to modem flash) and hspap instead of hspa under phone status!! (No LTE in my area). I'm completely dumfounded now. How did the ucalc4 modem stick, after restoring from backup.??? I would think the default ucle2 modem would have been restored (not complaining though). Sorry for being such a noob and look forward to responses such as..."Post in the right section noob" or "for cryin' out loud, do a search!!"
The radio is not backed up or restored in CWM.

If you're going to flash radios from different basebands. IIRC you just remove the system folder from the zip
