I decided to connect my infuse to Kies to see what it tells me just for curiosity. I received the "unknown device" firmware version, but I do see my Model Name as SGH-1997. I did some searching around on why i would get the "unknown Device". I have found that some people said the IMEI was corrupted. I am able to get my IMEI after pressing *#06#. I found this post about restoring your IMEI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162
. My question is if i copy my .nv.data.bak over my nv_data.bin in my phone will this correct the "unknown device" in Kies? Will it cause corruption on my phone?
I am currently on Zeus rom.
Thanks

Hi. My friend from the US bought me a Sidekick 4G from T-mobile. I live in Canada and we can use it on a certain carrier but it has to be unlocked. I bought an unlock code already but as I was going through the unlock process, the IMEI number would show up as "null null". I don't wanna **** it up even more but is there any way to fix this?
I know there's a thread by cannondale0815 about how he fixed his Galaxy null problem but I'm scared the process won't work on mine. I'm just so frustrated with this phone
I'm an uber noob so I'm not really familiar with flashing or rooting.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
You can try using Odin to reflash the stock firmware, either KD1 or KG2.
But have you tried just using the code anyway? You did get the correct imei from the back of the phone right?

Thanks but I tried flashing KD1 already to its factory settings. Its baseband and IMEI is unknown AND it says that there's no firmware available.
I went to a guy and he said not to try the code because I could **** it up permanently.
I've seen forums here that say they've flashed something and fixed their null problem. The thing is I just don't know what to flash because all the other forums were about other devices.
Any help is appreciated.
did you have a backup involved in the unlock process that you used? which instructions did you use?
did you try checking the EFS clear option in ODIN?
HI GUYS...
I UNLOCKED MY SAMSUNG GALAXY INFUSE AS USUAL, AND ITS OK "UNLOCKED"...

Yep, a borked imei number will not allow you to connect to your cellular network...
I'm guessing that your efs folder wasn't backed up... you can try this...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162
I haven't tried this but good luck.
thank you brassguy...
but does this work for infuse 4G ?
In addition, I read that we can change the IMEI number using the ADB, or is there another way to do this?
Also, what about the GSII_repair app, can I use it for my phone (infuse 4G)?
i had this problem last night where i flashed a rom. i return it to stock and imei showed up.

i do travel over seas alot
But i returned mine to stock many times but the imei number still like this.

Hi,
My Verizon galaxy S3 has not been able to connect to anything but data (4G LTE only though, not 3G/2G/anything else) recently.
I can remember going through some flashing where I flashed Cyanogenmod (Nightly from around March 28th 2012) and the latest modem.
The issue is that neither calling nor sms works.
I noticed that when I flashed (using heimdall) 4.0.4 back to the S3, the serial number was all 0s (eleven if I remember correctly, so it was 00000000000).
The IMEI is correct, according to the settings.
What should I try to get it working?
Some background info on it: It was purchased at Walmart in mid-March, so it can't be returned to Walmart due to being passed the return window.
Currently I'm running 4.1.2 which I had to flash via Odin (I decided to try Odin since I had access to it for a period of time). It was not possible to update the phone from 4.0.4 to the newest system because of it only downloading about 30 MB (over Wifi, which still works).

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1867442 try this. You can use it to fix your IMIE number and while your at it make sure your ERI number is ok. Then reprovision your sim and you should be fine.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867442 sorry for posting a bad link. Your imie shouldn't be all zeros. This will fix that. And your Eric should be 5 on Verizon. I don't know about other carriers.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
And just FYI: The IMEI isn't all zeros, but rather, the serial number is.
Update: Still not working.
I entered the IMEI from behind the battery in and nothing seems to have changed.
One thing I found interesting is that the MEID is not the same as it is when the program says it has changed it.

I dont remember where I found it but look for a program on xda called "Samsung MEID Repair V4.0" or "XDA Samsung Repair Utility (Verizon Galaxy SIII). I believe you can use that program to repair your MEID #.

To be honest, those programs were in the linked page for the first reply you gave me.
They didn't work for changing what the program sees as the MEID.
But the phone reads it in Settings just fine.

BTW, it is currently on stock 4.0.4, no root.
Appers exception in Samsung MEID Repair
I tryed use the Samsung MEID Repair, i have connect my Samsumg Galaxy S3 in Com Port, but when i click in connect show one exception in console.
System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null
Name of parameter: value
in System.ThrowHelper.ThrowArgumentNullException(ExceptionArgument argument)
in System.BitConverter.ToInt32(Byte[] value, Int32 startIndex)
in SamsungMEIDRepair.Tools.SerialPort.ReadEFS(String efsFileName, FileSystem system)
in SamsungMEIDRepair.MainForm.ReadPhoneInforamtion()
The folder efs exists in root folders with the archives nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5
I have the common problem, imei number is 004999010640000 / 01 but i have change for the original imei...
helpmeee please :crying:
I'd recommend using Odin/heimdall to restore to stock, then have some Verizon person try to fix it.
That's what I did (be sure to reset flash counter) and they got everything but SMS working, which installing CM fixed.

I'm trying to do an IMEI backup and not having much luck thus far. Can someone direct me on a method that should work?
When I try this method it just sits at "Initializing ADB Server..." http://androidcentral.us/2013/11/backup-restore-efs-data-samsung-android-phone-tutorial/
When I try this method (I assume the backup section talking about software download means to open EFS Professional and do it in there at that point), it states my "Device Not Connected!": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
I read that some having trouble with EFS Professional post 4.3 had luck with Andromizer, but the IMEI backup option is missing under tools and I tried 4.2.7 and 4.2.8.
And kTools was specific stating it worked for x phones and I9305 wasn't listed.
Note: I am having other problems with the phone detailed in another post. I don't think they are related but they very well could be.
Carrier: T-Mobile (Germany)
Model number: GT-I9305
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband version: I9305XXUEMK1
Kernel version: 3.0.31-2051278
Build number: JSS15J.I9305XXUEML5
Update:
This was simply ignorance on my part. The QPST directions I found were listed with EFS Pro and in the instructions it said to start the "Software Download". Since I didn't see software download or a backup tab, I thought it was referring to in EFS Pro. In QPST under the menu "Start Clients" is the "Software Download." It backed up fine for me.
Note: From what I read, sometimes instead of the port name saying "... QC Diagnostics" it says Unknown. Mine did, but I just selected the unknown port and it worked fine.
I need help. I have done something to my phone and now i cant see my serial number and i have a invalid IMEI number. What can I do? I have tried a lot of things that people suggested and nothing works. I cant use kies3 or smart switch. and i have no backup of anything they all was corrupted.
The first thing to do when having these issues is asking in the right place, in android development is not the right place
can you explain what you did to receive this outcome?
