I am wondering why all "senseless" 4.0.1/4.0.3 ROMs include the HTC camera instead of the AOSP one. Only exception being HyperNonSense v2.0 beta.
The camera included in HNS 2.0 is quite stable...it has no JPG compression and works just fine. Could it be tweaked to allow higher HD video bitrates and eventually get panorama mode running?
Any devs/cookers/modders actually willing to take some time and check it out?
PS - The camera itself as a separate APK i haven't found anywhere except as an addon (http://www.multiupload.com/OAFG3VSWSI) for webstar1's Ultimite 4.0.1 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406322)
I'm not too sure but there's more drivers and stuff as well as the apk.
Also I belive its linked to the HTC lock screen but I night be wrong? Plus I don't think the devs have have managed a pure AOSP port or build I think trip is closest until cm9 is released which I can't wait for but seems to be taking a long time due to the additions within ics ,
I have the ics stock cam on trips rom which is nearly pure AOSP but only camera works for pics I can't video record as its not 100% compatible but I'm not worried I love this rom its fast and pure with no sense

Now I am under the impression that the camera on this phone has greater capabilities then any of the android operating systems (including roms) allow am i correct in this thinking?? and was the lg camera the best?
currently i am running latest eaglesblood which i like very much so.
i am not that tech savy and have a hard time understanding the complexites of video and capture with 720p and all will there be an upgrade?? for cm7 based roms
basically where do we stand and where are we going for 2.3.5 with camera??
ps. same basic question but with hdmi??
IMO the lg camera rules. The CM7 based cameras are very dark, they don't see light properly. Eagles blood does not play nice with stock lg camera. I tried flashing lg cam to it and it replaced both camera apps that come biult in. It also stoped me from getting a signal, and no battery indicator.
Probably try cm7 nightly 2.3.4 and try installing stock camera there. Not sure if that will work. I will try and respond here.
DO NOT USE LG CAMERA WITH CM7 IT IS NOT COMPATIABLE JUST YET. DIDNT YOU READ THE THREAD? THAT IS WHY IT DOESNKT WORKON EB BECAUSE IT IS CM7 BASED. IT WILL BE COMPATABLE BUT doniqcc said it is going to take a lot of work be wise the framework is completely different Anyway that's the deal just be pacient it will happen.

Try installing the latest MIUI... 1.9.11 I believe.
The camera in that is AMAZING. Touch-to-focus works great, and focuses really well. Better than the LG Cam IMO, and it's 2.3.5 based!
import
now i tried the miui rom and in my experience i had so many bugs and fc
would it be possible to import that to cm7 or cm7 based roms?
waiting for the next whole none nightly solid CM7.
jbdaka6445 is right miui sucks. Actually it is a decent looking ROM espicially if you like the ****ty Iphone. But I hafd it installed and Iusually keep a New ROM installed at least a few days but I could not staND ALL THE FC AND BUGS.
I did full wipe and flashed the latest CM7.1, I kinda like this rom but my camera is so laggy only when I use paper camera app it works fine, I tried other camera apps they are laggy too, any advice?
any advice
I have the same issue on CM7.1 ROM. When I run camera app the picture is viewed frame-by-frame per 1,2 second instead of stepless.
On the stock HTC ROM camera works excellent.
Does anybody have this issue? Where can I ask support?
Seems like it is a hardware issue with the desire S. HTC seems to have released a new hardware for the camera which isn't supported by the CM7 kernel yet (as of CM 7.1).
So your best option is to find a custom stock-based rom (sense 3.5), with a lot of the sense things removed for now.
Unfortunately we'll have to wait until either HTC releases the drivers (miniscule chance), someone fixes it in CM 7.2, or someone fixes the ICS camera problems.

Are you sure about that? I thought it was because HTC app is more optimized..

Unfortunately the problem isn't fixed in CM7.2 rc1 either... and apparently we're not alone as users of Incredible S are also getting camera lag.
I've done some forum trawling on CM and xda, and it seems that the complaint summary is:
1. Users of CM7-based kernel roms are affected (stock-derived sense roms don't seem to have this problem).
2. The Camera works, but live preview appears to be broken.
3. When you first turn on the camera app, it works for a brief second, then it freezes.
4. Touching the on-screen buttons appears to temporarily fix live preview, but if you let go, it freezes again.
Issue is explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397883
Other users also seem to complain of video playback lag (though I haven't tested this myself...)
So, I'm guessing the problem is a Camera harware vs. driver vs. kernel incompatibility with CM7?
And apparently we can't flash HTC sense-based cameras on CM7...
Mine Works alryt... bit laggy compared to stock sense, But not so bad.

Lucky... apparently users have been complaining that phones after october 2011 seem to be having problems, if you got your DS before then you should be fine.
Hi all.
I'm just wondering what do you think about JB 4.2 camera. I've noticed that all 4.2 cameras are laggy. Few days ago I've tested ICS with Sense camera and it was blazing fast!
Do you have any workarounds to use fast camera on 4.2 JB?
Cheers.
I was testing CM10 and 10.1 today and yes, they have much slower cameras than sense roms like sabsa prime 14 that i am testing now. I think it's all about drivers, however you can also try with different camera app.
Reply
Most JB 4.2 cameras are laggy when compared to Sense cameras....As in the above reply its said, It is may be due to driver...Also in some JB roms there is a slight issue with the images captured...A green/colourful line comes in the image...In some roms its fixed though..
I've looked for alternatives but both UCam and Camera360 were worse for me. Still looking for a decent third-party camera app.
Im having the same lag trouble on jellytime 4.2. I just installed Camera ZOOM FX app. In my opinion, its twice as fast as the stock one, and doesn't have any green/pink lines. It changes to stock for recording a video though, but its ok with me... It has built in image editor with lots of stuff. Hope i helped

I really want to switch to a 4.2.2 rom for the HOX, but two things have been holding me back:
* CM 10.1 (The one I am considering the most) is still unstable and seems to be at a standstill (though it's looking bright).
* The Sense Camera is not included in any 4.2 ROM (as far as I know)
The main feature I would miss is the slow motion recording. As far as I know there are no other (good) apps that can do this. The best I've seen was 'pseudo-slow-motion" where it looked like more frames were interpolated.
Other great features include fast continuous shooting, and taking pictures during videos (I have not looked into other apps for these features).
My questions are:
Is there any way to get the Sense Camera into a 4.2 Rom?
If not, are there any alternatives for the features I'm looking for (apps, different roms, etc)?
And any other advice you wish to give me!
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
My info if it helps: ATT HTC One X, Rooted, S-Off, Boot-loader Unlocked, CleanROM R2
And a side question (not a high priority): CleanROM is great, but I seem to be missing any HDMI out features, does that happen for anyone else?

This is absolutely wonderful! Thanks for the link!
Ease of use and (from what I can tell) picture quality is superior to the HOX camera app
However, it's missing the key features I want, slow motion video, and fast continuous shooting. Maybe I couldn't find these features, but they aren't in this app. I couldn't find any continuous shooting feature in fact, but I could be wrong. That's a big issue right there. I got used to being able to take up to 20 high speed shots just by holding down the shutter button. I wouldn't mind having a to change a setting every time though, but I can't find that setting if it exists.
Follow up questions:
Are there any modifications I could do to this app?
Am I just being plain dumb and can't find the continuous shooting?
Is there any way to extract the HOX camera app like this team did for the JB 4.2 camera?
Well I use viperxl Rom which is soo good and has that feature you looking for. With viperxl it is sense based but customiZation options are huge and dev is active daily. I think its up to 12 k posts . They are the best

No, there is no practical way to get the Sense camera on an AOSP ROM. The Sense camera app leverages usage of various Sense frameworks and some proprietary drivers for ImageChip, all of which are not present on any AOSP ROM.
If you really want the camera, you'll need to switch to a Sense ROM. I recommend ViperXL JB for now. I'm personally waiting for a Sense 5 ROM to come out before I switch back from LiquidSmooth.
Could somebody with the Nougat/Oreo LineageOs build installed some example photos taken by the camera. I'm just really curious about it, cause I heard it's bad or not as good as on the stock rom(yeah of this I'm pretty sure but still) and i cannot find some anywhere
Yea it's cos the TouchWiz ROM has camera frameworks that are built into the ROM and can't be ported to AOSP.
There's some comparisons from the HTC camera port thread which is what most people recommend to use on S7 AOSP ROM's
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/los-aosp-base-temporal-fix-camera-t3574480
Not sure if it'd work but you could try installing the HTC camera while still on TW and compare with the stock camera.

Well I managed to install the HTC camera app. Well I don't see much of a difference when it comes to simple photos, except that light focusing on HTC app does not seem to work. Though I wonder if still HTC camera app is not using the TW framework, is it possible?
Yea wasn't sure if third party apps benefit from the TW camera API or something.
You could always do a full TWRP backup, flash Lineage, and if the camera sucks just restore your backup.
