[Q] Help needed!! Root mysteriously lost!! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I found this "wake on volume" zip (mod?) in the "sky ice cream sandwich" thread and installed it through recovery (the rom manager one). The installation was smooth and no error was shown and I even remembered seeing a "enjoy" down the botton when the installation was done. Then I rebooted my phone. Surprisingly, that "wake on volume" doesn't work! Oh well, I can live with it so I can just leave it there unfunctioning. However I later found out my root was GONE! My guess was that mod somehow destroyed it, so I tried to re-root my phone, but the "skyrocket-easy-root" didn't work. It said I should have root. wtf. So I went back to the "sky ice cream sandwich" thread and downloaded the mod under the previous one, which was supposed to be the "revert". I certainly hope installing it will solve my root problem. But now somehow I can't boot into recovery!!! Not via rom manager nor holding up+down+power!!! I'm screwed!!!
It's really not fun to set up everything again but I will do that if factory reset is the only way...but I'm afraid this issue persists after reset...root sometimes survives reset maybe so does "root problem"
Again, help is desparately needed here!
I won't try no mod anymore!

Just do odin and start fresh off. Instruction is in my signature press the link about noob and scroll down

yea, first try a factory reset. most of the time that clears the problem. if not, then odin.

Try downloading super user from the market if it says you have root already.

[Q] Boot loop or Brick? HELP?

GOT IT FIXED
Thanks to fabricatedhero for the brain pulse to try and just root it!
First this isnt my G2X, I am trying to help a co-worker. She isnt Tech-savy by any means... lol... any way here is her story:
She got the OTA pop-up and thought it was a virus (yeah shes that smart) then she said she accepted the update as it kept asking. She started the update and it took hours over night and it never finished she said so she pulled the battery durring the s/w update screen. Then it started the boot loop.
Now my story:
The G2x is bone-stock
I did the NVflash successfully... Flashed the stock recovery via:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 ... Still have the boot loop issue and wont boot into recovery. I searched and even Googled and everything is the same, and of which nothign is working for me.
I tried to maybe catch something from the boop loop and also from the S/W update screen... NOTHING... Clearly this is software issue; The only thing I have yet to confirm is if I place the stock update on sd card and see if itll pick that up.
The issue I see there is I cant google for the life of me what the "special" name of the update would be called. Nor do I have a clue what to really call it. I know for most phones its NOT "update.zip" more like "espring13" or somethign like that...
Can any Jedi MAster help me? Thanks!
ok found the file name:
LG-P999-V10f.zip
Still boot-looping and that didnt work...
resources

Use. The nvflasher to put Cwm on it and go under restore and re-format sd, cache, and etc
Then go and do gummans froyo 2.2 stock rooted rom
Also there's a post about how to do the GB update on here as well.

Did you try a simple factory reset? If you still have stock recovery and rom try holding volume up + power until the reset process begins.
G2X CM7
So I will have to root the device? I guess that makes sense...
Keep in mind I cant get into stock recovery period...
cwm worked! wipped everything, still nothing, gonna flash a new rom
update:
ok SDcard doesnt show have to mount internal storage to apply update... *crosses fingers*
**worked running newest nightly of CM7 with CWM recovery

New 3.2 update bootlooping?

OK, weird one this. Downloaded the update with no issues, it installed ok, it went to android recovery and then rebooted after a few mins into my homescreen. All good! - Then after about 5 seconds it said shutting off.. it then went through the whole updating procedure again. Ok no probs i thought, it needs 2 reboots.. fine.
However it has now done this 5 times!! and counting..I guess thats not right.. so how the hell do i stop it? lol
edit: managed to get quick view of "about tablet" and its still showing as 3.1 so the update is not applying.. i wonder why?

Are you rooted? That would be why. It's not advisable to accept an OTA update when your system has been altered. Unlocked is ok, just not rooted/modded.
If you are rooted and have a nandroid backup from before the update, try to restore from there. If not, boot into fastboot and restore to your model's original stock image (from motodev) then let the OTA updates bring you up to 3.1 and then 3.2. Re-install CWM Recovery, and re-root after that with solarnz' Universal Xoom Root and go from there.
If you're not rooted and your system is just continually rebooting, you should still try the fastboot/restore stock images procedure. There may be something easier, but I'll let someone else advise you on that.
Good luck!
Appreciate the help. No i am not rooted but i certainly dont want to restore a stock image as i will lose everything! Its nothing that cant be restored but why should i go through the hassle after accepting an OTA update if it doesnt work!
Currently now on my 16th reboot! - Getting fed up now...
Any ideas on how to apply this update ok?.. or at least stop it! lol

I can't think of any way to resolve this that doesn't involve a wipe of some kind. Have you checked any other Moto/Xoom forums to see if anyone else had the same problem?
My condolences on the irritating situation and the potential loss of your stuff. Actually, a good reason to root is that you can back everything up!
Well i took the plunge and wiped by unlocking. Cured the bootlooping (obviously), and so then thought - why not root aswell
All done and running Tiamat 2.2 and very happy!
Appreciate the help peeps..

[Q] HELP!! New guy totally screwed?

Hey guys I wish my first post would be more positive but I think I've screwed the pooch. I flashed a rom for the first time yesterday (Infused v1.6.0) without a hitch and I got cocky I guess. I have rom manager, 3e recovery, root explorer all in place. Super one click to root. Well, today I tried to flash MIUI 1.1.11 and got into the red recovery screen. Wiped cache/factory reset, then wiped delvik, went to flash the rom. Now I'm stuck on the scrolling screen (I'm new so dont know the lingo too well). It says:
Installing: SDCARD:MIUI-Infuse-1.1.11.zip - Shortcut.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Its been there for like a half hour, with no progress showing in the bar below it. What do I do? Am I just screwed? Pleeeeeease help me I'm freakin out. Thanks guys.

Damn! you are screwed!!! go throw your phone where I can find it. LOL...I keed!
Nah you are ok. if you can get back to recovery, go to mounts and format system, then reflash miui. But why are you trying to flash an old version of Miui
I apologize in advance I'm super new to customizing. That version is the one I found first so I just went with it. By getting back to recovery do I pull the battery, then hold vol up and dwn plus power till the samsung logo? Thanks for replying so quickly.
Edit* I got back into recovery (red) and did that but it stays on the same place. Went back in to recovery (red) tried to reboot and got stuck on Samsung logo. Now back to recovery. This sucks.
I went ahead and flashed back to Infused from clockwork and everything went smooth. I would still like to get the MIUI rom so any help is greatly appreciated. I'm sure you guys have more important things to do than hold my hand through this, but if you happen to have the time it would be awesome. Thanks again!

go back to recovery and format system then flash miui, after it finishes flashing you will bootloop and again you go to recovery and reflash miui. If that doesn't help, odin back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021
. head over to the dev forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278053 and follow those steps. MikyMike posted the lastes of miui.

Installation:
1. Place .zip onto internal SD card
2. Reboot into CWM
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Data
5. Flash the ROM .zip
If your phone doesn't boot:
6. Shut down the phone
7. Reboot into CWM using 3 button
8. Flash the ROM .zip again
9. Enjoy
Known bugs:
Bluetooth is semi-working (A2DP audio skips, no sound/mic on phone calls via headsets)
No HDMI out
You'll note these two are the same bugs as CM. The two are closely related and MIUI will always have the same problems as CM (more or less). So don't ask me to fix them, if I'll fix them, when I'll fix them, when it'll be done, how many quarters go into a dollar, or any other such question.
Speaking of which, big thanks to LinuxBozo for porting CM, without which this would not be possible.
Thanks again. I clicked that link for the ROM on my phone and it took me to the mediafire site to download. Can I do it from my phone?

Thank you!!! Man you're a life saver. Im on my phone right now but when I get to my laptop I'll "officially" thank you. And, yes, this rom was worth the hassle.

[Q] a little help

So I waited to register to this site till I ran into a road block. I have read and searched and search but to no avail have I come up with a answer. So I come to you fellow Samsung Infuse 4G owners for help. I have successfully rooted my phone with super one click, ran clockwork recovery and installed zeuss's build 6 and my phone runs great. Now here is my issue. My friend liked the way my phone was so he went and got a used one then handed it over to me to do the cool stuff. So I set the phone back to factory deleting everything including user data.... I now have installed the new version of one click and this new phone and it says it works and installed but when I run clockwork the superuser never pops up. Now I have checked The settings and its not the issue. I have since factory reset the phone again deleting user data and superuser was still on the phone. I've tried to remove it like 50 times to no avail until today when it finally went away after I tried again the unroot on superoneclick but after restart and I try to reinstall it, it says its already rooted, so I make it reroot and I still havve Tue same issue. I have tried to clear data and reinstall the packages via the Samsung recovery but it says there is a missing path on the internal SD. So now I'm stuck... its been like this back and forth for 3 days. So I ask for a bit of help as my first post. BTW I'm Dustin I'm 27 and I live in Washington state and I love my swet zeuses builded phone. Thanks in advance
Did you push the cwm recovery file to system/bin and fix the permissions

What can also do is....run these files in cwm install like a ROM no wipes, do this one 1st and install 2nd back to back:
http://db.tt/NUVg4mjr
Then install this one 2nd:
http://db.tt/fOv83rRY
{U.S.M.C.} "Fraternal Brotherhood of the Highest Order"
Odin it to the stock rooted with cwm 2.3.6 and install from from recovery there. What I do

d80020y issues getting recovery flashed

New to the G2 world, unit just came in yesterday, rooted with stump root brute force. Worked well, got busybox, flashify, sqlite, and tibu all working. Tried to flash twrp 2.8.5.0 in flashify and think I fubared my recovery. When I try to boot into recovery using quickboot, I get white text up top
ERROR: boot certification verify
Secure boot failure
Then screen quickly goes black, from there I can hold power button and reboot, only issue when booting phone, upon unlock I get com.google.process.location has stoped, otherwise phone seems to function perfectly.
If I use hardware buttons to boot into recovery, I get a white screen with two option, yes or no to factory reset. Assuming this is stock LG recovery, regardless not sure if I should try CWM or stick with my trusty twrp. A lot of stuff on the forum about downgrading bootloaders/ firmwares, making sure modems match the rom flashing. At this point I just want a custom recovery. Any help would be very much appreciated. Don't want to screw it up anymore.
Nerds, help a brother out... this forum sucks compared to note 3 section.
I think I replied elsewhere recognize your username. Use autorec.

I use this Autorec, it stated it completed and gave option to boot into recovery or to exit, do we need to use this program to initiate recovery or should it be an option when I choose reboot?
I see everyone mention to use this Autorec apk but I did not see any sticky on our phone about how to use it after we install it or any mention of enabling or using recovery after the install on any of the 6 threads I located with its reference...
When it ran it said 2.7.0.0 in the header, is the version I used old?
If you used this Autorec, what next? Thanks..

it's an option for me when I reboot because of GravityBox and Xposed framework, but you can use the usual method to get to recovery after it's flashed. Use the app to get to the recovery once to make sure it's there, then you can safely do the "factory reset" on startup (it won't actually reset it'll just go to recovery) to go to the recovery.
yeah there isn't too much clear documentation about the whole process but follow the steps in sequence that are listed under the Guide section here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496
finally you may need to update the touch firmware after-- I did at least: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736166

I tried to see if the TWRP manager would detect it, said it wasn't there, so installed Clockwork manager and it installed some old version of recovery, wouldn't let me choose the IMG file for touch I had downloaded, there was option for boot into recovery within that app, I did, and poof, I was into TWRP .
Unknown waters since never used it. I tried same method as other ROMs, although did not factory reset, or see option to install new ROM like in CWM, wiped dalvik n cache, installed zip of cm12, gapps, su, wiped cache again, it started process of updating android, hope all is well, that app was new and different for me and I was expecting the good old clockwork I used for years to be there so I didn't research it too much since I thought it failed to load since our device is not on list of supported devices.
Looks like it worked, and it knew my previous device and all my apps from my other Lollipop Atrix HD I had, likely through Google back-up, and is downloading all my apps for me, even before logging into Cyanogen account, which usually did that for me...
Was like 40 apps to load, will see if she still works after all the apps load, didn't think I had that many on previous device, hope not every app I ever tried out...
Will try and uninstall the CWM app if that is still there since TWRP seems to load, or just keep to initiate recovery mode for updates..
---------- Post added at 03:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 PM ----------
No, that must not have been the correct way...
All was fine until I opened up Facebook, then every single app on my phone started to open up, settings were moving about, like a dozen people were in my phone remotely changing up every setting possible...
ruh roh...
After another forced reboot it seems to be working fine for now, although the phone is now called a AT&T Lge LG-D801 in Google Play when it is a D800.
