I'm also thinking of this but there should be a version of 4.0 on revolver within like a week of it being released and there are root problems on the latest update so better to keep root while you can

Just rooted in general, or running a custom ROM?

My understanding is that if you have the stock ROM it will allow you to download the update. If you are rooted you can download it, but not install it because you will need the stock recovery in order to do so.
Personally, I think I can deal with being non-rooted for a little bit in order to try out the new stuff. I already nandroid'd back to the stock ROM, but still rooted ... going to put the stock recovery and such back on and see if anything shows up over the weekend
To a device with a custom recovery i believe

It should work with stock image and recovery.
I just put my stock image of 2.1 and stoc recovery and straight away got the OTA for 2.1 update1, so I believe 2.2 OTA will come too
Try this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
^^ yep, did that. It started the update1 OTA immediately .... so far so good. Now it's down to the waiting game.
Is this only for nexus one?

Damn, now I really wish Google had announced the N1 for Canada a month before they did. Need this released for the Milestone!

Worked like a charm. Seemed it was missing a few steps that I had to assume but overall got the job done.
Now currently running 2.2 on my stock N1

Just do what I did... sell your Milestone and buy one online. I'm on my 2nd Nexus One. Gonna keep this one a virgin until 2.2.

New is the version 2.2.1 instead of 2.2 (see history of the page)
Otherwise i don't know what is difference
This isn't new it is the same .sbf that my ROM is based on

Meanwhile I tried it on my phone and I'm still having the flash bug, right after fresh, clean install... Did you apply any fix?

No, no fixes. I did flash over 2.34 though if that makes a difference.
Mods could delete this topic as long as this rom isnt new, so ppl wont spend time here.
Well, I don't know if it's new are not but I do know that it's fully working unlike the last one I tried. I'm a happy guy. Yesterday I thought I had a bricked Defy(thanks to Sorensiim for his McGyver trick) and today I have a fully functional Froyo Defy.
ROM is rooted
3G works
Camera/Flash works
Google apps and market work
For those interisted I went from a clean install of 2.34. Did a wipe. Installed the new(?) chinese froyo 2.2.1 ROM. Wiped again. And all is well.
In this rom, is there a bootloader file?
Maybe there is a unlocked bootloader because some one said he could flash all the time all now?
Which Language is inside?
COuld we go back to stock rom?

How to prepare nexus s for ice cream sandwich ota

Currently running miui with matrix kernel and I'm looking into flashing a stock gingerbread ROM to receive ics when it is released. I've flashed customs ROMs before but have never gone back to stock. How do I go about doing this? Will I need to reroot my phone? And will I be able to flash a kernel on the stock ROM? Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. Someone kind will post it here in a zip file soon after release i would imagine!

If someone makes one, sure.
sorry for abusing you thread, mokflurry, but i also have a question regarding requirements for the upcoming ota-update.
i am running stock rom, rooted, with cwm and custom kernel.
regarding the recovery, i already read, that this shouldn't be a problem. can anybody confirm that?
and what about the kernel? will i have to return to complete stock for ota?
thanks in advance!

You can be rooted with another recovery, But need stock rom and kernel.
Until and unless you believe that you will be the first one to get the OTA, you need not worry about the OTA. It will be up on XDA as soon as OTA is rolled and you be flashing it even before the OTA is actually is pushed to you

when returning to stock its a good idea to go bask to the same version but thats just to make sure you connect to the right regional servers for future updates or if you send it in for warranty and it doesn't match there is a chance that they will catch it but realistically it is not an issue

You're running Optipop, a custom rom, and Uber, a custom kernel. You're going to have to update manually. You're not tied to that rom/kernel but it's a good combo.

Thanks how do i update manually? Sorry for all the questions

You can`t if you have have a custom rom, recovery, kernel and changed the system. You have to be full stock and made no alteration in any way to the system.

Oh ok,thanks. Anyway to go back stock or should i leave well enough alone?

You can always flash the full 5.0.1 factory image, but if you`re happy with your current rom just leave it as it is mate
