[Q] Sensation box date for S-Off?

I remember a T-Mobile employee mentioning that he opened a Sensation box and discovered it to be S-Off. The date on the box was 5-18-2011. The recovery screen listed a date of 5-13-2011. For everyone who has already gotten their phone:
If you have S-Off - Please post your box/recovery dates
If you have a box date of 5-18 - Please post your recovery date and if your phone is S-Off or S-On
If you have a recovery date of 5-13 - Please post your box date and if you have S-Off or S-On
I just thought with the release at T-Mobile stores tomorrow it would be very helpful to people like me who will be waiting outside for the store to open to have a good idea if it will be S-Off or S-On based on the box date. I tried to include all scenarios that replicate the discovered S-Off to find the best way to estimate.

I am not sure if this would be a correct assumption as each date could have a S-On / S-Off variant. I have yet to see any correlation between date and S-Off.

I know it is not going to be [insert date] = S-off but if it can be narrowed down to a point where there is a higher probability that a certain date will be S-off it's still better than nothing. Oh, and in addition, how big of a fuss would the salespeople make with a request to open it up and boot into recovery before committing to a purchase?

I know in the UK I can mess around with a phone before I buy it. I just ask to take a look at a phone, boot it into recovery/fastboot/whatever and check S-ON, S-OFF, or whatever I need to check The sales people don't really know what I'm doing, but they don't care if I want an S-OFF or w/e version. Most of the time, they just want to make a sale. If me making sure I get an S-off phone gets a sale, they'll do it. It's the exec's that care about that kind of thing.
No idea if rules are different in the US though

I doubt this has any correlation, but my first sensations default ringtone or the one that it was set on from the factory was the HTC ringtone, which I returned because of touch screen issues, but my second sensations default ringtone is the tmobile jingle. I never checked the first one but this one is S-ON.

Recovery date 13-05-2011, s-on. There are no date on my box?

If you do this with multiple phones then you sir are an ass. I'd hate to go & get a phone to see it's already been opened, just because someone was looking for a specific thing.

Because there's only 1 thread on the development section with 1 person that has the S=OFF. Unless there's been a few others, that's the only person I know of.

So you're saying we shouldn't invite people to check their phones to see if they are S-OFF and post it here because one guy posted in the development forum that he has S-OFF? How does that make sense?

I would not expected to be able to open the box at all before you buy it in the store at launch. The salesman will likely say no and just sell it to the person standing behind you.
If you want to try and open boxes you should wait until the initial rush dies down, you will have a much better chance of getting someone to let you do that once the stores are not worried about selling out.

Hitting F5 until something materializes.

I would rather have an unofficial bootloader unlock than one that htc can say voids my warranty...

I hope the devs figure out another way to unlock future phones besides that method or I won't be buying anymore HTC phones. That will void your warranty, and so far I've had 4 defective HTC phones out of 4 so I wouldn't take the chance and give up my warranty.

my thoughts exactly, which is what im sure will come of this though, sacrifice 1 or 2 to figure it out for the rest!

Evo 3D has perma-temp root. They're starting to figure it out.

They released the OpenSense SDK today...

They also released the source code for the kernels on all HTC phones. Don't know if that was done before or not but it seems like that should be useful.

My problems must have been user error, the power button was sticking and it was recessed into the phone, another one had a messed up audio jack, the next had the same issue and this one has the audio jack issue as well just not as bad and this new one also has random reboots even on the new OTA GB radio, the last three only had reboots on froyo radios.

They always release the source to the kernel, just not always right away. It was posted before on http://developer.htc.com

They'll unlock the bootloader to the evo 3d and sensation but not the tbolt. Their unlocking tool will require you to provide them with your device information to void your warranty. Only good I see is developers might be able to use the tool to unlock other devices like the tbolt and future devices without having to provide htc with any of your phones information.

On top of that from what I have been reading it is somewhat limiting when compared to s-off. No hboot, radio, or splash1 flashing. Last I heard kernels had to be fastbooted on. There is probably more I don't know about. Voids your warranty and you can't even switch around to find what radio works best for you. Unlocked my a$$!!

How come when you go to htcdev.com no verizon phones are listed for unlocking bootloader including the thunderbolt? I wouldn't use the site anyways but trust me when I say no verizon phone will appear on that site, carriers own manufacturers and verizon hates unlocked/rooted/modified phones on their network!

I've been saying that since day one when HTC announced these "plans". I think Verizon has enough "pull" with HTC to make sure none of 'their' phones will be supported.

Sidekick 4g vs MyTouch 4g Slide(Ordered myTouch)

T mobile is offering me a choice between a Sidekick 4g and a myTouch 4g slide.... I've read the specs and seems the mytouch is higher end but want to know opinions from users who know whats what. like I said I've read the specs already so I am trying to look past the black and white.

OK now I have the phone on it's way. I know I can't get s-off but would like to know what I can and can't do until that solution has been found. I am also reading up so not looking for the lazy way out.

Pretty sure the Sidekick has reported A LOT of hardware problems.... check there forums here as well, but I do recall it being a high-problem phone.
You can't possibly go wrong with this device.
Developer "Blue61X" has even bought two of these devices because he loves it so much. if that helps

Yea, it's great. I can't see anything else coming close to it for a while in it's class ( hardware keyboard )
The stock battery is not great - and that's being polite.
You can find links to the battery threads in the contents page of my sticky in dev - basically you have the cheaper Anker or the more expensive Mugen to choose from to replace it with.
If you have/want to spend the money, the Mugen is great - I rock an Anker myself and love it.
Make use of the tv-out through the headphones jack, I play a lot of games output to a tv screen and the device stays alive and active while you are hooked up. I'm sure you can imagine how much more fun racing games and many others will be like this.
You can also find links to the tv threads in the dev reference, which will tell you what cable to get.
I have a Trident case on my primary, and love it. There's a decent thread on cases, but I've been pretty busy around here and haven't had the chance to update it in a while. I'll get back to it sometime.
Once you change a few keymappings, update with my gps fix and start really playing with it you'll love it.
Any specific questions just toss 'em out there - but there is no other device now or that we know of coming that I would trade this for.

Depends. For the new update, which you'll have, you got a chance with the HTC unlock tool - if that works you can do most stuff.
We are actively working on a downgrade to S-OFF option - this led to me getting S-OFF to S -ON for us a couple hours ago and I'll be bringing one of my devices up to the S-ON locked state you'll get it in later tonight.
Then I'll be able to actually try stuff instead of us guessing - all the devs working on the fix were S-OFF already so figuring out how to flip it S-ON was a big step in productivity. Once I update in S -ON, I'm stuck until we figure it out - so don't worry man, right there with ya.
HTC should have the issue resolved and restart the OTA in the not too distant future.

DO NOT SIDEKICK 4G i have that phone and its slow as ****, no roms, very hard to put clockwork mod on it,
the olny good thing about it is the keyboard and i personally prefer the mytouch 4g slides keybaord

@ Blue: looking forward to the success of your work and all that I can learn from you and the other devs. I personally use the Samsung galaxy s 4g and am getting this phone to replace my wife's mt3gs and think I'm going to be jealous from the little bit that I've read.
@wiswis: already placed the order for the mytouch. I posted something similar to this in the sidekick forum and plenty of people have viewed but no post. They made the decision very easy.

Just a little word about the GPS. On the 1.28.531.10 stock ROM, your GPS fix was a huge improvement. However, now that I'm on the 1.55.531.3 stock ROM, the GPS is lightening quick and accurate without any adjustments on my part. HTC must have done some serious tweaking to the GPS code in this ROM.

You know, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that - there was a bunch of GPS stuff that was pushed for the new update, a new SUPL cert and gps.conf file. I meant to take a look at it to see what they did and if it still needed help or not, but haven't had a chance to yet.
Hopefully I'll have the presence of mind to pull them from my other phone now that it's up to date stovk

If you read the specs alone it should be nothing but obvious what phone to choose its like asking should i go with a free geo or a BMW .........

i think you get the idea by now, but i'll just say, the keyboard is the ONLY POSSIBLE reason you might choose the SK. i've had both, and there is no comparison... MT4GS all the way.

Depends what hboot u get. If u get the older one, ur in business. Ez to root and s-off.
Use rubix ics 5.2 with my directions on page 148 of its thread on rootzwiki, if u want stability with everything working and super fast. If she wants ics, tbalden's rom probably. But all the 4.0.X roms are still a work in progress.

Naw she dont really trip...she has one too anyways...I have yet to root it for her...I told her she needs to wait for the OTA ICS next month so we can at least check it out on one of our phones.

LOL! My Man used to get PO'd at me ALL of the time for "being on your phone all of the time." I mean, I kind of understand... I was always wiping and flashing and then having to set up my phone all over again. Takes forever. Anyway, I'm not doing that so much now.

the problem is, that I'm then are working also

She used to get mad all the time saying that I spend more time with Mt phone than with her, so what I started doing was flashing and setting up the phone when she wasn't around and that have helped tremendously.

Inspire 4g not rooting

Please I'll appreciate it if I could get help on what to do about my brother's HTC INSPIRE 4G, I've tried almost every rooting application out there but still have absolutely no luck. The phone just never seems to get rooted. It's on AT&T and I'm not sure if the service provider hindered it kinda!

The only game in town is the Hack Kit...if you try anything else you will probably mess the phone. Make sure you read carefully the OP and the Manual inside...

Yeah and when it asks you for the key go scroll down to the faq's and click on the highlighted word(sorry not sure which one not on my computer) which will give you the access key which is different every time

Then they should just read. If you read the manual from start to finish then you will know where to get it. It was done that way on purpose. To get people used to reading before doing.

The Code is the file called cajan.txt like they said before it changes everytime so don't try to copy n paste it.

Use the ACE hack kit. Read the instructions very carefully (the whole thing, it's not that long) and don't skip any steps. It may be possible that the PC you are using to do the hack is the issue. Try a different PC, preferably one running Linux because there is less chance of other software interfering under Linux. I rooted mine a week ago using Ubuntu and it rooted first time using the ACE hack kit. It took about 15 minutes.

Also make sure your PC antivirus is off, most AV's see the root as a Trojan and will kill the root script. A lot of the time it happens so fast you don't see the warning. Then when you try to root it can't. Don't even open the zip until you do this.
