Then rather you have the OTA installed or not is completely irrelevant. Why even mention it?
Use ATTN's hack kit.

Okay so I am talking to a dev from the Incredible 4g community. We need all the steps to get a fully working exploit. He knows how to get temp root. What do we need to do after a temp root is established?
This is not me developing this is me letting a dev work with my phone. Any negitive feed back is not wanted. If you want to say anything negitive. Please inbox me.

-hexedit CID to 11111111
-follow the s-off exploit
Once you've got s-off, you can change your CID to 22222222 and use htcdev to unlock. After that, it's just a matter of flashing recovery and a rooted rom.

i liked Doug, i just always thought he was more knowledgeable until people started picking on him. he just seems to be acting like he isn't. i do like that he is being proactive about root methods for jb, which is pretty awesome of him. he does make alot of threads though =)

Is it possible to use supercid and then unlock bootloader? And then flash the recovery stuff and root like in this video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYTAfkUWEKc
hello everybody! ive had a iphone for about 2 months now and couldnt take it anymore so i just bought a htc one s! i want to root it but i want to make sure i know everything that need to be done. i see the videos and the step by step processes but i have a few questions. every tutorial i see looks to be done on ics. i bought the phone and it was already on android 4.1.1. do the tutorials still apply? also when i plug my phone into my laptop it doesnt have the charge only/ sd mount (or whatever its says) like it does on ics version....it just says usb connected and wen i tap that it goes into hotspot and tethering options. it is a htc one s S4 so can someone please help me? thanks
You can still unlock boot loader the same way. To get s-off go through the development section till you find moonshine s-off
Sent from my One S using xda app-developers app
Ok now what exactly does s off do and do I have to do it in order to root?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
No you don'tHAVE to do it. All you have to do is unlock boot loader. S-off just allows you to flash whenever you want. If your s-on you have to flash the boot.IMG from the rom.zip through adb
Sent from my One S using xda app-developers app
Oh ok. So how do I go by rooting this thing when I'm on android 4.1.1

You can use hasoon2000's toolkit to unlock the boot loader then install a recovery

You don't necessarily have to s-off except for certain things. If you want to flash custom ROMs, can be accomplished even without S-Off

There are these ROMs TrickDroid and zenROM. Sense 5 based. Head over to the Development section you'll find them there. Read the requirements for flashing the ROMs. If it says S-Off is a must only then should you go for it. Otherwise no need.

It's not that difficult. Also try non-sense ROMs like CM 10.1, ILLUSION 2.0 by $droyd$ (very good and stable ROM), PACman ROM.
best of luck.

Hi guys,
I'm looking to root my HTC One S (S4 Plus) to remove junky bloatware by Vodafone and to change the crappy Vodafone bootloader which seems to have knocked out the startup HTC sound of the device (and yes I have tried adjusting volumes).
I really don't want to brick the device as it's still 10 months until my contract is over. I've never rooted a phone before either.
Do you have any advise and perhaps some tools for newbies?
Thank you!

I'm assuming you mean the recent 4.1.1 update from T-Mobile? I live in the UK. Vodafone sent out the 4.1.1 update back on December 25.

Okay, thank you for the help.
You don't have to s-off, do you? I'm still running SON & had the latest update as well. Did have to use the htcdev website to unlock the bootloader, but it's alot easyer. Considering you're not really going to be a power user, that might just be the way to go...
Just remember you have to flash the boot.img using fastboot if you're going to use custom roms, appart from that I've not had any problems with it.

I'm looking to unlock the bootloader/root the device while still being able to download OTA updates (if anymore come...) and keep HTC Sense, if that's possible?
Simply to remove Vodafone's crappy bootloader that seems to have affected my phone's default bootup. My One S doesn't play the HTC startup sound, but my girlfriend's does and we're both under Vodafone via 24-month contract that ends in May.
I've used this procedure:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
Works pretty well .

I guess. The One series (2012 and 2013) isn't even listed on the HTCDev website to unlock the bootloader. Perhaps Vodafone took the liberty of locking it instead? They've already plastered crap in the app drawer, that it wouldn't surprise me.

Well, I'm guessing custom ROMs would provide the latest version of Android wouldn't they? So I doubt OTA updates would be necessary (especially since HTC just ditched this damn phone). My only concern is if I could get Sense 5.0 as well?
I've heard of TrickDroid 10 having Sense included? I'd expect this phone to support the latest versions with it being fairly powerful.
