There is an app that I found that lets you have a phone number over Wi-Fi
and people can send you texts for free all day long. you can also send them

It has free calling to other app users. otherwise you have to purchase minutes
The name of the app is text plus and it's amazing
Would have to recommend it for anyone wanting to save money or people with a BAD ESN phone like me. so you can still play around with your xperia lol
Another great bottle of useless content.

I agree...
But I'll bite on this guy... why does your phone have a bad ESN? Try to pull a scam on Verizon too?
Edit: Forget it I looked through his old drivel... I mean posts, and found the answer
I got textPlus GOLD for free from the Amazon Appstore.
It actually is very useful for people who are interested in cuttin' out texting fees. Voxer is nice too for people who want to make data calls, and that could be the revolution that kills minute calling plans... but only if everyone were using it at the same time.

I buy bad ESN phones from ebay and other auction sites such as craiglist
It's a way to have every phone you want for cheap cheap
more then half off prices brand new in box
I have alot of phones. none of them have network except my nextel with 2 way radio.
the other ones are for my tinker hobby
I get free unlimited texting from Verizon or I would use this. Also what's the difference between this and Google voice?

Its the same thing as this, only with a web app, intigration with com.android.phone, simpler less bloated design, and adfree.

google voice is not an option for people with no network.
if you have no phone number it wont verify and it wont work
so this app is useless unless you already have a carrier / call phone plan
So textplus gives you a phone number and free texting even if you have no carrier or network signal.
cant be beaten.

Regardless of your opinions, you cannot pick and choose what rules you wish to obay. If indeed it is against the rules to have animated .gif's in a sig, the user should be told and he did nothing wrong by pointing it out, you childish comments are not nessesary.

I don't see how its childish (& I can't speak for anyone else here). I asked a simple question since I have not seen this supposed rule listed in the forum rules. Its not even on topic. He should have PM'd the "culprit" of this rule-breaking & discussed it privately

Here's the link if you want to gripe to the FTC about AT&T disabling HSUPA on the Captivate and not specifically telling people that it won't be as fast on their 3g network as they allow the iPhone 4 to be.
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
Maybe if we get enough people to complain it might make a difference (although kinda unlikely). At the very least it'll make you feel like you did something until we get the uncrippled radio from the Rogers Captivate and get around their stupid restrictions.
If you want it to be in their face, AT&T does have a facebook account, keep it at the top of their wall so that potential Captivate customers think twice.

Your post on their Facebook contained misinformation, so it's unsurprising they deleted it. The Captivate supports full HSDPA, what it doesn't support is HSUPA.

Also sent in a tip to see if AndroidCentral would do an article about it with links to their facebook page and the FTC link I posted in #1.
Fingers crossed. I don't know why this pisses me off as much as it does but I really want AT&T to just fix it.
Apple has to do something to keep iPhone sales up. With att being their cokewhore its no surprise that they did this to the captivate. Maybe if everyone went to Verizon, att might actually learn something.
Then again maybe not....

The last 5 time I've ran it (on 3g) with my Captivate
1996/255
2080/316
1450/146
1341/172
I don't have exact number for my iP4 because it was sent back. But, I NEVER had upload above 100. Download was usually around 2000.
The 3gs averages ~1500/150.
These numbers are all 3g on att. Sitting at the same location in my office.

"ATT Free Msg: Your data usage is among the top 5% of users. Data speeds for this bill cycle may be reduced. Visit www.att.com/dataplans or call 8663447584"
So I called — Dial *DATA# (*3282#) from your wireless phone. We'll send you a free text message with your usage info.
"Data (MB): 2051.3 of Unlimited"
Unlimited my @$$!!!!!! So I guess the new limit is 2GB for us "unlimited" users.
Last month I got to 3GB before receiving the message... I'm guessing next month it will go down to 1GB. haha
I am so unhappy with this. Unlimited plan being throttled at 2GB... c'mon... your telling me that's the top 5%!!!???

I have noticed the amount used has gone down a bit but remember it goes by area that your zip code is so it's dependent on the users around you. I live in the middle of nowhere in south texas but my phone is activated with a Dallas/Ft.Worth number so I can get up to maybe 5 or so gigs before I get the warning text. I used to be able to.go to 7 though before so I do think it's gone down a bit. You know you can somewhat bypass it by just keeping ur band set to hspa only. Its bearable for me that way

funny part is on the fine print of the contract you signed it say they have the right to cut people off if they choose too .

Their "unlimited" sounds a lot like an internet deal that Verizon offered my Dad. In their case it was "For Life!" (meaning 2 years).

first off.. I am not "screaming" about throttling... and I DID read the "****" I signed before I posted something on a public forum ( "started tear works") haha.. society... no wonder this world is doomed...
it says in the contract that they have the right to modify or cancel any customer who they feel is using excessive data on the network...
how is 2040mb excessive when they offer a 3GB data plan.
if we were not in the right... that guy would not have won the case against ATT... granted he only got $850... but think of all the ATT customers..
since ATT put that we can not file a class action lawsuit into there contract... the only option we have is to do it individually.. which only some may do..
but just think if they didn't have the class action lawsuit rule in the contract they would be paying out $850 x the millions of ATT customers (or however many are on an unlimited data plan still) = $$$$$$$$
so I'm sorry CheesyNutz.. I don't like getting f*cked in the @$$ by these major corporations trying to suck the life out of us.
Just posting on a "friendly" forum to help raise awareness, and let other people know they are really snapping down... doesn't matter how much data you use..
If you do "read" then you may want to read up on the case more before thinking you're in store for an instant 850 in your pocket.
Small claims court in California isn't small claims in new york. If you think you really do have a case, read up on how damages are calculated in small claims court in your state, gather your proof, and go file.
Otherwise this means nothing to you.

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. I do eCare for a cable/internet/phone provider in Canada and we can be crafty with our words when we need to.
The way I'm interpreting things is that they ship locked devices and can add support later for certain carriers. He did NOT however specify that they WOULD add support for AT&T. If he were able to, he would have tried clarifying that definitively as to satisfy the customer's question and close contact.
Carriers have many confidential agreements and contingencies. I would imagine that support for unlocking AT&T devices would be contingent on the terms that they've agreed upon with HTC. And unless AT&T specifically requests unlocking support, I do not think it would be added. It would be bad for HTC to ship unlocked devices or simply add unlocking support without a carriers explicit consent.
That's the way I see things at least. Although I have a Rogers device I want to hear AT&T comment on this with a definitive response. They need to be accountable and transparent with their plans. We shouldn't need to find the answer from the vendor or another third party.
This is a better response than the other ones.

I would say it's definitely inferred, especially with the vivid reference
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
Here's my interpretation:
If they knew that they were 100% going to unlock it, I believe that they would say so. There is no point to not doing so, especially after feeling all of the pressure about it.
They can/want to unlock it, thus keeping their word. However are waiting for the "OK" from AT&T to do so.
Before I saw this post, I sent them a message asking about the unlock as well. Let's see what sort of response I get :-/

Then why would he apologize for not being able to give you a definitive response?
Their goal should be to answer your question and kill any further questions. That wouldn't quell my concerns if I had asked the question. I would have followed up and specifically asked if that means my carrier is DEFINITELY on board with this or if there were other contingencies.
I sincerely hope I'm wrong though. I hate locked bootloaders!

The easiest way to communicate that would be to apologize for not being able to divulge those details as they are part of their confidential terms and conditions with AT&T.
I've sent dozens of thousands of emails and have done the same amount of chats with customers and we are a lot more clear than that. I asked some colleagues (and fellow Android geeks) what they make of it and they said it sounds like a cop out. I hate to admit it, but someone's we get asked tough and direct questions such as "When will your PVR support XXX feature that YYY carrier has activated", and all we can answer is with something ambiguous because we know there's problems or that it's a long ways away, etc.
Maybe I'm thinking too much into things. I just read it completely differently though. I wonder how long it will take AT&T to make a public statement. All the other Android sites are starting to cover the same issue.

Verizon's Bootloader is either Locked, encrypted etc... for the Samsung Galaxy S3
It may get unlocked Unofficially in the near future. Do not be satisfied wth this.
We need it Officially Unlocked by Verizon.
Here is a prime example of why we want it Official

Hello guys.
I started contacting Engadget who will probably run a story about this Verizon-specific bootloader lock on Galaxy S III.
I want this bootloader change to be reverted, it's a huge mistake Verizon makes here.
Also, clearly I suggest to anyone here returning their device, get your money back, switch of carrier if needed and buy something else instead.
If anyone is wondering, I won't publish any apps (like planned Display Expert) on this Verizon device because even if eventually an unlocking method or workaround is found, it's likely it will be broken by future firmwares updates.
It means there's a too high risk users or buyers of my root apps will be unable to use it at some point, being disappointed and frustrated, sorry pals.
And I got in the loop Anandtech as well. No promises but there will be coverage.

The only thing we can do at this point is protest this any way we can.
I am asking each and everyone of you on Verizon or any other Carrier to Sign below.
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/verizon-bootloader-petition/
I am also asking that anyone with any access to news sites, Verizon on Twitter, Facebook, etc... or knows anyone that does... call them out. Blow up there Twitter accounts.
Anything you can do to help the cause
We need to do this on a massive scale and force them to Officially unlock the boot loader.
THE KEY IS BAD PRESS FOR VERIZON

Thanks, Incubus
Here are some sites that have picked up the story already. Let me know when you find more.

worked for us with HTC phones. Goes for all carriers tho, but still petitions and yelling later, and HTC Dev unlock allows many phones from HTC to have unlocked bootloaders.
Sorry but these online petitions are a waste of time. I can't recall 1 that has ever worked. Sad but true.

And how do you know it was the online petition and not the BBB complaints or the twitter complaints, or the letters sent to the CEO.... etc ?

I agree but this Sprint User will still sign. Verizon are such bastards.
I'm on AT&T, but I'll sign. It worked for the Atrix when it came out and Motorola got all the bad press......a key was leaked.

What does it matter it's not hurting anyone. I remember posting on the HTC facebook page and comparing them to Apple.
It doesn't. My only point is that there are other avenues that will probably have a better effect then a useless online petition.

You don't understand why people would be skeptical about random people giving away free ****, who don't use a company email address, and are given a minimal amount of info?
Go figure...

Like it will cost you a leg or an arm to do it to be skeptical
Yeah I have a little problem with email he sent, "We are selling on Amazon.com and we got some free galaxy note 9 accessories available now. will you accept reimbursement after your honest feedback is posted?" Didn't define what they are selling or what they wanted me to buy and "reimbursement" two RED flags.

I also got an email. While the whole deal might be legit, it didn't feel right to me. As you said, it's not a company email address, and the wording was odd. He asked that I promise to write a review, and send my amazon link to my reviews. That's not abnormal, but like I said, it didn't make me feel safe, and I try to avoid scams whenever possible.

It's not a scam, it's a small company trying to boost their reviews. I've had the Battery case for over a week and I'm about to review another item from them shortly, been reimbursed the money for everything.

Trying to boost their reviews? Okay.
Well please ensure that your review 100% honest because if it isn't, it's just misleading people to buy something that is actually not worth the money.

Of course. The case is exactly the same case ZeroLemon sells, just not branded with ZeroLemon.
I followed up on this - unfortunately it didn't work out for me as I'm in the UK, and the only way to buy the case is on amazon.com, who won't ship it to the UK.
The emails I received from Jayson were helpful and timely, and he never asked for anything other than an "honest review".

Works for me, or use your face or Irises to unlock your device.
I'm not against this but "boosting" reviews via freebies, isn't there a certain word for that ?
