[Q] How to backup my software?

Hello. Currently, I am using RCMix S 2.7 and i thinking this is most stable and great rom for Desire S. I setup my mobile(applications, widgets, settings). However I would like to test new roms. How I can backup my customized software? I did backup in ClockworkMod Recovery and size of my software is 1.05Gb. Is this enough? How to make restore? Do i need to choose only restore or format something first?

Use Google sync for your Contacts and Calendar items (HTC Sync + M$ Outlook is also a good combination but you can use it only on Sense ROMs)
Download and install free Titanium Backup from the Market to backup your applications and settings (you can backup even your homescreen arrangement (all shortcuts and widgets) and restore them in one click. The backup itself is not taking too much space. My advice is when switching to ROM with different Sense/Kernel/Android version do not restore setting, it can mess up your new installation, restore just the apps and take the time to configure everything again.

I also test new roms all the time. My technique of back up is this.
1. contacs = back up using google. sync with your google account.
2. sms = i use 'kAmMa's BackupSMS'
3. Application = I only backup downloaded apps using Astro file manager.
For me titanium back up is a bit complicated.
to restore i always do this order
first use the filemanager in the rom - browse to backup folder and install astro file manager.
than use astro file manager and install all the other application that you back up
than setup google account and your contact will be downloaded automatically from internet.
than restore sms using the kamma's backupsms.
its done. I spend about 30 minutes for this. This is my way of doing things. If you like you can follow this way.

Ok, I got your point. You want to preserve you current ROM in the way it is now in case that you would like to go back to it.
In this case before restoration you have to follow the same steps like in installation of a new ROM:
Wipe all (system, data, cache)
Restore

If you just want to simply restore one of your previously taken Nandoird backups then there is no need to wipe anything in advance as the restore will overwrite all partitions.
While saying that every time that I've performed a restore for safety's sake I always then wipe cache and dalvik cache before booting the restored ROM.

Complete backup question

I have an almost stock skyrocket that is rooted. I also have the paid version of titanium backup on it, but i'm not really sure how to use most of it except to backup and freeze apps. I want to flash a few ice cream roms, but I was wondering if anyone could coach me or point me to a page on how to completely backup and restore my device in case I need or want to return it back to stock. Thanks for any help.

Go into clockworkmod and choose backup and restore. Backup. You will have a full backup of your apps and your stock rom. If you ever need to revert, go back into clockworkmod, do a superwipe, and then restore the backup.

First get rom manager, then i believe through rom manager you can install clockworkmods touch recovery. Then boot to recovery and make a nandroid backup, which I think is the best way to do a full backup of your phone.
Titanium backup is great but you may find when doing batch backups of apps that you'll run into errors when switching between different roms.
I find using titanium to backup my app data only and just reinstalling apps from the play store (just go down the my apps list to reinstall your apps) to be the best way to avoid force closes. Then you can just restore your app data in titanium.
(do a search for more details on clockworkmod)

Nandroid backups done with CWM do not back up the radio IIRC. If you want to be able to return to your current ROM I suggest:
1. Make sure you know how to install the stock ROM you are currently running with Odin.
2. Make sure you have the stock rom files you need to do step 1.
3. Backup your current setup with CWM.
Try ICS as much as you like.
If you want to revert then Odin the stock rom you are using now, Odin CWM, boot into recovery and restore the backup you made. This will make sure everything is back to what you have now.

I've only used Titanium Backup to restore Nova Launcher after flashing a new ROM (Play Store downloads all the apps) and restoring Nova Launcher neatly flings all those apps back into the proper folders.

I can't comment on TiBu, but using when using nandroid via CWM as suggested it helps to have separate backups of call logs, contacts and messaging to restore.

Noob question about reverting from custom kernel

My GT7+ has the LB2 firmware. I have not seen any copy of this firmware for downloading. Therefore I have been cautious and stick with the stock kernel and FW.
I installed garyd9's CWM and made nandroid backup. I want to try garyd9's custom kernel, but I read the warning on his post about compatibility with some firmwares.
I wonder if I flash his custom kernel and it fails, can I revert back to my stock kernel through nandroid restore?

Nandroid backup is a complete backup of your phone. When we say complete, it means everything on your phone – your apps, data, your current ROM and even the kernel. It is like creating a full system image of your phone that can be restored later, when required. - Restore from a Nandroid Backup via Recovery:
1. The first two steps are same as above. Boot into Recovery and navigate to the Nandroid screen.
2. Select ‘Restore’ to start the process. If you choose the ‘Advanced Restore’ option, you can select which component of the backup to restore – like the boot, system, data or cache. 3. Reboot system. Your system is now restored and is exactly same as the time when the backup was taken.-- Backup and Restore Using ROM Manager:
If you think the above process was easy, backup and restore through ROM Manager is even easier. ROM Manager automates the whole of the above process giving you the option to do these operations with a single touch. Just choose ‘Backup Current ROM’, enter a name for the backup and the phone reboots to start the backup process. There, your backup is complete. To restore, launch the app and select ‘Manage and Restore Backups’. Select the backup that you want restored and ROM Manager will do the rest.
You can delete or rename the backups as well.

BTW, I see that there is no copy of the official Samsung LB2 firmware floating around. I do not know how to make a tar file for the firmware / ROM, but would anyone be interested in a nandroid copy of the LB2? I can reset the tablet, go to CWM to save a nandroid copy of the default firmware, then restore my own running copy.

Is there a different method/app?
I have to use an application thats checks if phone is rooted - it won't allow me to connect if its rooted
AND
I have some apps/games that don't sync with the cloud so all data will be lost if just reinstalled without crrent data?
please advice/refer/HELP?SAVE?RESCUE me

first of all backup everything with titanium backup
Then install new rom
After rom install flashable superuser zip
And then restore it

but I must unroot it - and I must restore apps from rooted device - what do you mean "After rom install flashable superuser zip" - how do I do that

Hey there,
I want to wipe my phone because of several problems that occur and I believe that they can be solved by resetting my phone with the following procedure:
Wipe my phone with Twrp completely, then flash latest oxygen os, then magisk.
But: is there a way I can reinstall all my apps in the status as they are now?
Should I backup data now and flash this part after the said flashing of Rom and magisk?

Do the nandroid backup which will bring your phone back to its state after installation. Or backup data and apk files of your apps and then restore it.
